AB - The amount of organic pomace, left behind agricultural processes, is continuously rising in accordance with industrial progress. Grape pomace, generated in the wine industry all over the world, represents a raw material for obtaining valuable products. Grape seeds are especially rich in oil containing bioactive compounds that can have various health-related effects. The aim of the study is to compare the quality of seed oils obtained from six white grapes, including two Serbian autochthonous varieties. Linoleic acid, associated with numerous health benefits, is the major fatty acid in all samples (≈66% of total); α-tocopherol is the main tocopherol homologue. Total polyphenol content ranges from 73.4 to 104.3 mg of gallic acid equivalents per 100 g. In order to provide comprehensive information about antioxidant capacity of grape seed oil (GSO), three tests are performed (ferric ion reducing antioxidant power; 2,2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) radical scavenging). Antimicrobial activity is investigated against different strains; however, GSO inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. Obtained results are used to develop a novel approach for oil quality assessment. Calculated oil quality scores (OQS) reveal no significant difference between international and autochthonous varieties, although Smederevka stands out as the most potent one. Practical applications: Considering the progressive waste increase in the wine industry and keeping in mind all health-promoting effects of grape seed oil (GSO), it is clearly observed that oil production represents a profitable and sustainable utilization of grape seeds. The results of the present study show that GSO is a rich source of compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. In addition, this work provides deeper insight into a quality of Serbian autochthonous grape varieties that are still insufficiently explored. Furthermore, the proposed oil quality score could be used as a comprehensive and unbiased method that enables quality assessment of oils. This tool can find practical application in comparing different plant oils regarding their compositional and functional properties. Finally, it would contribute to making some general oil intake recommendations.

AB - The elemental profile of the leaf samples of three Cabernet Franc clone candidates recently developed in Serbia (Nos. 02, 010 and 012) obtained in the last phase of clonal selection was examined within this study by ICP-OES. Optimal content of Al, Fe, Cu and Zn, the metals well known for their links with a number of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease, has actually highlighted the potential of the leaf sample No. 10 to afford a novel food supplement of natural origin possessing well balanced metal ingredients. Furthermore, lower content of some other elements (Cr, Mn, Ni and Pb) thoroughly supports such a claiming. Finally, the most favourable K/Na ratio observed for the aforementioned sample points out its likely cardioprotectivity. However, two other Cabernet Franc clone candidates might also be recommended for breeding in the same or similar viticultural conditions, since all obtained values were below toxic ones for human consumption. AB - Growing interest in Serbia in adaptation of viticulture to climate change emerged from a recorded positive impact of summer increased draught on domestic wine quality. Another motivation is that viticulture has been recognized as one of the fastest developing agricultural sectors in Serbia and, to contain its growing potential, it is crucial to provide basis for its future sustainable development. Prioritization and implementation of adaptation measures in practice require reliable assessment of climate projections. For climate change impact assessment is used high resolution multi-model ensemble of nine regional climate models simulations, bias corrected, with two most probable future scenarios of GHG emissions RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, for the period 2016-2100. Analysis has been done for the near future, mid-century and end of the century periods. The periods are defined according to the IPCC 5th Assessment Report, which enables comparison of climate change impacts with a wider region, and preferably motivate future international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

AB - Three Cabernet Franc (CF) clones (Nos. 02,010 and 012; not yet commercial) obtained in the last phase of clonal selection were examined within this study. Indeed, the content of 27 chemical elements in the vineyard soil along with CF grape and wine samples were determined by inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectroscopy. The relative dependence of the selected elements in all samples were estimated using correlation matrices. While elemental profiles of both CF grape and wine samples were highly variable among the analysed clones, bioaccumulation factors (grape/soil) of Mg, Na and Sr were found to be specific for each single clone. Applying principal component analysis, the grape clones were differentiated among each other according to the content of 10 elements (Al, B, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na and Sr). Finally, hierarchical cluster analysis of CF grape and wine samples pointed out the similarity of the clones Nos. 010 and 012, since they were grouped within the same subcluster.

AB - BACKGROUND: Clonal selection is one of the tools used for grapevine improvement and therefore is very important for obtaining clones with better characteristics than the variety population. The aim of this study was to select superior grapevines of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Muscat Hamburg grown for fresh consumption. RESULTSThe viticultural parameters and fruit composition of 35 selected vines were determined during a 5-year period. The evaluated parameters showed high variability among selected vines. The significant effect of vintage was observed for all descriptors with the exception of the number of seeds per berry and sugar concentration. Additionally, all vines were examined for their tolerance to low temperatures and the results showed 73% and 90% of primary bud injury at -20 and -25 degrees C, respectively. In relation to berry classification, the percentage of first-class grapes ranged from 60% to 69% for all selected grapevines. Multivariate statistical analysis was performed to classify grapevines based on their performance. CONCLUSIONFourteen grapevines were identified as the most promising among the 35 vines initially planted, based on high yield, bunch and berry weight, sugar content and percentage of first-grade grapes. Those grapevines were selected for the next phase of the clonal selection. This study highlighted the importance of clonal selection for improvement of the variety population.

AB - BACKGROUND: Three clones of Cabernet Franc (Nos. 02, 010 and 012) were selected in the last phase of clonal selection in Serbia. Wines made from each clone were assessed for quality parameters and taste during five consecutive vintages (2008-2012) and compared to the standard. The wine quality was determined based on the following parameters: alcohol, total extract, anthocyanins, tannins, pH, titratable acidity, volatile acidity, aldehydes, esters and reducing sugars, relative density, ash, colour, tonality, and tasting score. In the last year of the study, grapes and wines of Cabernet Franc clones and a standard were subjected to a chemical analysis of their phenolic composition, resveratrol and radical scavenging activity. In the last year of the study, grapes and wines of Cabernet Franc clones and a standard were subjected to a chemical analysis of their phenolic composition, resveratrol and radical scavenging activity. Methods: Chemical analyses of grapes and wines along with sensory and radical scavenging activity evaluations were done according to the standard procedures. Results: The wines of the clone No. 010 showed some superior properties compared to the other two clones and the standard; in five-year period the average concentration of anthocyanins (179 +/- 3.8 mg/L) and polyphenolics (1.85 +/- 0.02 g/L) was significantly higher than in wines of clones and the standard, (168-173 mg/L and 1.63-1.74 g/L for anthocyanins and phenolics, respectively). Furthermore, the same clone had a higher alcohol content (13.97 +/- 0.03%) in each year of the study, which indicated that it ripened faster than other clones (13.06-13.08 %) and compared to the standard (13.04 +/- 0.07%). This finding suggested that the clone No. 010 could possibly have a significant economic impact and further increase popularity of Cabernet Franc in a cooler climate viticultural region. It was also found to have the highest contents of aldehydes (488 +/- 1.54 mg/L) and esters (322 +/- 0.71 mg/L) compared to aldehydes (452-467 mg/L) and esters (290-310 mg/L) measured in other wines. Finally, the highest amount of phenolic compounds (1220 +/- 40 mg/kg) and resveratrol (70 +/- 3.3 mg/kg) were found in the grapes of the clone No. 010. The present study revealed a strong correlation of total phenolic contents and anthocyanins with radical scavenging activities (0.936 and 0.929, P lt 0.001, respectively) indicating that this activity of wines was derived mainly from their phenolic compounds. Conclusion: The wine of the clone No. 010 contained the highest concentration of aldehydes, esters, anthocyanins, polyphenolics and resveratrol and consequently achieved the best tasting score. This clone may offer a new Cabernet Franc wine with geographical indication.

abstract = "BACKGROUND: Three clones of Cabernet Franc (Nos. AB - Wine is a complex mixture of natural organic compounds belonging to different structural classes. The aim of this study was to examine the chemical composition of Merlot wines of 11 selected clones obtained during third phase of individual clonal selection performed in the Republic of Serbia. The relative density (0.9956 to 0.9975), alcohol content (10.18 to 11.61 vol. %) and total extract (24.23 to 27.80 gl-1) of the wines of screened clones have indicated their good technological characteristics. In order to select the best clones for the final phase of the clonal selection, the evaluation of their viticultural properties and chemical ingredients will be continued.
AB - Vino predstavlja kompleksnu smešu prirodnih organskih jedinjenja različitih struktura. Cilj ovog rada bilo je ispitivanje hemijskog sastava vina 11 klonova sorte Merlo u okviru treće faze individualne klonske selekcije u Republici Srbiji. Dobijeni rezultati za relativinu gustinu (0,9956-0,9975), sadržaj alkohola (10,18-11,61 vol%) i ukupan ekstrakt (24,23-27,80 gl-1) ukazuju na dobre tehnološke karakteristike vina klonova. Radi selekcije najboljih klonova za poslednju fazu klonske selekcije, neophodno je sprovesti dalja ispitivanja kako vinogradarskih osobina, tako i hemijskih komponenti relevantnih grožđa i vina.

AB - In Vojvodina region, water deficit during the growing season is a major factor limiting maize production. Therefore, to achieve the ideal soil water content in this region, it is of crucial importance to optimize irrigation. The effects of different irrigation levels with sprinkler irrigation system on crop yield, yield components, water use, water (WUE) and irrigation water use (IWUE) efficiency of maize (Zea mays L) were investigated in Vojvodina (northern Serbia), on a Calcaric Chernozem soil in temperate environment for 3 consecutive years (2006-2008). Maize was subjected to four irrigation regimes, as follows: non limited irrigation (I-100), 75% of non-limited irrigation (I-75), 50% of non-limited irrigation (I-50), and rainfed (non-irrigated) as the control (I-0). The irrigation treatments were arranged in a complete randomized block design with 4 replicates. Results showed that maize grown in rainfed conditions had high annual variability, mainly due to amount of rainfall and its distribution during the crop-growing seasons. A significant irrigation effect was found for yield, yield components and others investigated parameters under study. Water stress had significant impact on yield response: as an average of the three years, a grain yield increase of 47.8, 32.8, and 22.9% was observed in I-100, I-75 and I-50 treatments compared to rainfed (I-0) treatment, respectively. Yield increased linearly with seasonal crop evapotranspiration and irrigation amount. Furthermore, WUE is maximized with a moderate water deficit (I-50), while IWUE is the highest in I-100 treatment. The deficit irrigation stress index, DISI, decreased with increasing irrigation rate. The results revealed that irrigation is necessary for maize cultivation because rainfall is insufficient to meet the crop water needs in Vojvodina. In addition, the study indicated that the irrigation regime of 25% water saving (I-75) could ensure satisfactory grain yield of maize and increment of WUE.

AB - In this study, grapes and corresponding wines of Merlot /No 022, 025 and 029/ and Cabernet Franc /No 02, 010 and 012/ clones (recently developed) were evaluated regarding the total phenolic content, total anthocyanin content, and radical scavenging activity, aiming to better understand their quality and market potential. The nineteen individual polyphenols were quantified in studied grape samples using UHPLC coupled to a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. The mother grapes and wines were used as the relevant standards. In the grape, studied characteristics were monitored at three stages of berry development: green berry, veraison and mature berry. The mature grape of clones presented high values of total phenolics (3.81-10.89 g gallic acid equivalent kg(-1) frozen weight), anthocyanin content (359.00-1668.18 mg malvidin-3-O-glucoside kg(-1) frozen weight) and the radical scavenging activity (41.37-80.48 mmol trolox equivalent kg(-1) frozen weight) depending on the clone. Grapes and wines of Merlot No 025 and Cabernet Franc No 010 stood out with the highest values of all three parameters. Generally, the high correlation was observed between TPC and RSA values for green berries and mature grapes, as well as for wine samples. The most abundant phenolics in both Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes were gallic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, ferulic acid, catechin, epicatechin, gallocatechin gallate, catechin gallate, and rutin. Catechin, epicatechin, epigallocatechin, and catechin gallate, typical for the ripe grape of Merlot and Cabernet Franc clones, showed significant correlation with RSA values. Concentrations of individual polyphenols varied depending on the sample being studied and berry development stages. Merlot No 025 and Cabernet Franc No 010 grapes showed particularly interesting attributes for the production of high quality wines.

Merlot No 025 and Cabernet Franc No 010 grapes showed particularly interesting attributes for the production of high quality wines.",

AB - During a four-year period, ampelographic experiments focusing on the berry cluster (average length of grape cluster, number of grape clusters per shoot, number of berries per grape cluster and length of peduncle), berry (length of berry and berry juice yield), length of pedicel and seed (length of berry seed) of Merlot cultivar (used as a relevant standard) and 11 clones (Nos. 022, 023, 025, 026, 027, 028, 029, 030, 031, 033 and 034) were performed in order to establish the differences among them. These experiments were actually conducted in the third phase of individual clonal selection of Merlot cultivar carried out in Serbia. The lengths of grape cluster and pedicel as well as berry must yields differed significantly among the examined clones. The cluster and principal component analyses classified 12 samples into three divergent clusters/groups, respectively. The clones belonging to the cluster II /the second group/ had significantly higher values of numbers of grape clusters per shoot and berries per grape cluster; lengths of peduncle and berry; berry must yield and length of pedicel, compared both to standard Merlot /the cluster I, the first group/ and the clones of the cluster III /the third group/. The phenological observations showed no significant differences in the beginnings and durations of phenological stages and vegetation period of the examined clones. The obtained results indicate the real need for further research work focused both on the agrobiological and technological properties of the grapes and wines aiming to better describe the selected clones.

AB - Covering the period 2009-2012, the quality of Merlot wines obtained from three new clone candidates (namely Nos. 022, 025 and 029, respectively; fourth phase of clonal selection) developed in the Republic of Serbia was examined. The following parameters were determined: Folin-Ciocalteu (FC) index, pH value, total acidity, volatile acids, aldehydes, esters, relative density and ash. In comparison with the standard Merlot wine (originating from mother vine), FC index (from 35.73 to 37.15) and tasting score (from 17.89 to 17.95) were higher for the wines of all three clone candidates tested. These findings are in good agreement with the observed trend for the viticultural parameters indicating better properties of the new Merlot clone candidates versus mother.

AB - This work aimed to evaluate the content of selected phenolic natural products in the wine samples made of three new Serbian Cabernet Franc clones ( Nos. 02, 010 and 012, respectively) and mother vine ( used as the relevant standard) during the period 2008-2012. Compared with all other wine samples, the Cabernet Franc wine of the clone No. 010 was found to have the highest total content of polyphenolics ( 1.85 +/- 0.02 g/L) and anthocyanins ( 178.55 +/- 3.75 mg/L). In addition, its Folin-Ciocalteu index ( 36.86 +/- 0.12) stood out among the examined samples. Finally, the same wine was enriched with ellagic and gallic acids ( 3.44 +/- 0.29 and 27.46 +/- 0.21 mg/L, respectively), catechin ( 135.16 +/- 6.47 mg/L) and epicatechin ( 51.33 +/- 2.33 mg/L), the natural products known to exert significant lipid-lowering effects. Taken all together, the clone No. 010 developed in Serbia may offer new Cabernet Franc wine with geographical indication. [GRAPHICS] .

AB - In the Vojvodina region, drought is an important factor limiting grain yield in maize. The aims of this research were to compare irrigation scheduling in maize (cv. ZP SC 684), and to evaluate grain yield and ear characteristics. A 3-year field experiment was carried out in the Vojvodina region, a northern part of the Republic of Serbia (384 mm of rainfall in the maize-growing period). Maize was subjected to four irrigation levels (rainfed - I0 and supply at 80-85% - I1, 70-75% - I2 and 60-65% - I3 of field capacity). The results indicated a large yearly variability, mainly due to a rainfall event at the flowering, fertilization and grain filling stages. A significant irrigation effect was observed for all the variables under study, with significant differences between the three irrigation treatments. The grain yield ranged between 8.73 and 16.33 t ha-1. The highest grain yield of maize (average of 15.08 t ha-1) was in the I1 treatment, while the non-irrigated (I0) treatment had the lowest yield (average of 10.20 t ha-1), a 35% grain yield reduction. With the decrease of irrigation water, the grain yield of maize decreased. The most distinctive impact the irrigation had on maize yield was during the warm and very dry growth period of the year of 2008. Maize in the Vojvodina region can be cultivated with acceptable yields while saving irrigation water and maximizing resource-use efficiency.
ZP SC 684 - FAO 600), ocena prinosa i osobina klipa.

AB - Aims: The selection of cv. Merlot clones performed in the Grocka winegrowing region, Republic of Serbia, and the study of agrobiological and technological traits of three selected clones and Merlot standard. Methods and results: The selection of clones was done using the method of individual clone selection in four phases over 15-20 years (Cindric, 2003). O.I.V. methods were used in determining the most important agrobiological and economic-technological traits of grapes. The results of studied traits of grape and wine suggest that the quality of the clones surpassed the quality of the standard. Although the highest values for most of the studied traits were obtained for clone 025, there was no statistically significant difference between the clones. Indeed, the significant distinction between the clones was obtained for total polyphenol content (TPC) and total anthocyanin content (TAC) in wines : the wine of clone 025 had the highest TPC and TAC values. According to the tasting scores, wines of the clones may be classified as quality wines with geographical indications. Conclusion: The selected clones were characterised by good quality grapes and wines. Improved viticultural parameters, versus the mother vine, indicate the need for further research work on the chemistry of both grapes and wines, aiming to better understand the characteristics of the selected clones and their market potential. Significance and impact of the study: The development of new clones (namely 022, 025 and 029) of better quality than the mother vine will, in the long term, lead to the introduction of the best clone(s) in viticultural practices and production. Until today, the clonal selection of Merlot has not been done in the Republic of Serbia and there are no recognised clones.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of land use changes on the aggregate size distribution, soil structural stability, and soil erodibility in Luvisols on Central Serbia's rainfed farms at a depth of 0.00-0.30 m. Six sites, selected for the study, contained adjacent land uses of natural grassland and arable land that have undergone conversion from grassland for more than 10 years. The inherent problems of Luvisols include weak structured surface horizons susceptible to structure deterioration, where tilled when wet or when heavy machinery is used. Aggregate size distribution and soil structural stability in the topsoil was tested by soil dry and wet sieving. Soil erodibility was assessed with the USLE-K factor. The natural grassland served as a control against which to assess changes in soil properties resulting from the removal of natural vegetation or cultivation of soil. The results showed that conversion of natural grassland to dry land farming led to a significant degradation of the soil structure. Aggregate separation by dry-sieving indicated that the natural grassland had significantly fewer unfavorable cloddy aggregates (>10 mm) and more agronomically most valuable aggregates (0.25-10 mm) than the arable soils. The mean weight diameter of dry aggregates (MWDdry) was greater in the grassland (7.0 mm) compared to the arable soils (9.7 mm). The arable soil had significantly lower (1.03) structure coefficient (Ks) than grassland soils (2.77). Higher percentages of water stable aggregates (WSA) >0.25 mm were found under natural grassland (50 %) than in arable fields (41 %). In addition, grassland soil had significantly higher mean weight diameter (0.92 mm) of wet stable aggregates (MWDwet) than arable soils (0.81 mm). Tillage of the unaltered grassland significantly increased the soil erodibility measured by the USLE-K factor. The USLE-K factor was approximately by 17% greater in the arable soil than in the grassland, indicating the vulnerability of the arable soil to water erosion. In summary, the results showed that the tillage of the grassland degraded the soil structure, leaving soils more susceptible to the erosion in the temperate climate zone. This suggests that land disturbances should be avoided in the grasslands in the study region of the Central Serbia.

abstract = "The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of land use changes on the aggregate size distribution, soil structural stability, and soil erodibility in Luvisols on Central Serbia's rainfed farms at a depth of 0.00-0.30 m. AB - Tests were carried out on the influence of low temperatures during winter dormancy on per cent of central and lateral buds freezing in Merlot Standard and its varieties. The method applied was in vitro artificial freezing of cuttings of one-year-old shoots in cold storage. Three low temperatures were applied: -15°C, -20°C and -25°C. Tests were performed simultaneously in all varieties three times during winter on December 25, January 25 and February 25 in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The results indicate statistically significant differences between studied varieties and low temperatures applied. Damage of central and lateral buds was significantly lower at -20°C than at -25°C. .

AB - On the basic of three-year testing of five black wine varieties of the Prolec occidentalis group, grown in the vineyard district of Grocka, the following conclusions can be made: 1. High yield of grapes exhibited variety game black the great, while varieties merlot, Burgundac black and cabernet Souvignon had smaller yield of grapes, and the Caberne franc variety had the smallest yield of grapes. 2. The biggest cluster masshad variety cabernet franc the great, followed by varieties merlot, game black and cabernet Souvignon, while smallest cluster mass had the Burgundac black variety. 3. Biggest berry mass had the cabernet franc variety, while smaller berry mass had varieties merlot, cabernet Souvignon and game black, and smallest berry mass had the Burgundac black variety. 4. Biggest sugar content in must had the Burgundac black variety, while cabernet Souvignon, cabernet franc and merlot varieties had less sugar, and game black the great variety had the smallest sugar content. 5. Biggest content of total acids in must had cabernet Souvignon variety, less acid total had varieties merlot, game black and Burgundac black, and the smallest content of total acids in must had the cabernet franc variety.
AB - U radu su prikazani rezultati proučavanja važnijih agrobioloških i privredno tehnoloških karakteristika pet crnih vinskih sorti grupe Proles occidentalis: Burgundac crni, Game crni, Kaberne sovinjon, Kaberne fran i Merlo u uslovima gročanskog vinogorja.

AB - On the basis of two-year testing of the influence of organic fertilizer Rosasoil on yield and technological characteristics of the Riesling Italian variety in full fecundity in the conditions of the vineyard district of Vršac, the following can be concluded: 1. Climate and soil are favorable for growing grapevine in the wine-producing region of Vršac. 2. Average yield of grapes varied, ranging from 4.5 kg/trunk (on control) to 5.29 kg/trunk (variant with 360 g of fertilizer per plant). 3. Average yield of grapes varied from 14.998 kg/ha (on control) to 17.622.08 kg/ha, (variant with 360 g Rosasoil per plant). 4. Average content of sugar in must varied from 16.39% (on control) to 17.9% (variant with 360 g of fertilizer/plant). 5. Average content of total acids in must varied from 7.6 g/l (variant with 300 g /l of fertilizer per plant) to 7.72 g/l (on control). On the basis of results achieved, it can be concluded that application of organic fertilizer Rosasoil was successful, so this fertilizer can be recommended both for the vineyard district of Vršac, and for application in other vineyard districts in Yugoslavia.

AB - We tested the influence of low temperatures up to the freezing point during winter rest of winter central buds and lateral buds in variances of the Cabernet franc variety. Variances were grown in equal agro-ecological conditions. We applied in vitro the method of artificial freezing of one-year shoots (cuttings) in the cold storage. Two low temperatures were applied:-150C, -200C and -250C. Tests were performed simultaneously on all variances three times during the winter rest of 25th December, of 25th January and of 25th February (of 1998,1999 and 2000). On the basis of results of the testing, we determined that there were statistically significant differences between the tested variances and low temperatures applied. Damage of central winter buds and lateral buds were significantly less on -200C than on -250C.
