AB - Self-incompatibility presents one of the challenges in modern fruit production. It can be correlated
with a lower yield of self-incompatible cultivars which also demand the planting of the pollinisers. The aim of
this work was to investigate the phenomenon of incompatibility and its influence on fertilization success in
quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.), using the cultivars ‘Leskovacka’, ‘Vranjska’, ‘Morava’, ‘Pazardzijska’, ‘Hemus’,
‘Asenica’, ‘Portugal’ and ‘Triumph’. Incompatible pollen tubes were determined by using fluorescence
microscopy. In two types of pollination (self-pollination and open pollination) pollen tubes showed signs of
incompatibility, mostly in the upper third of the style. The most common sign of incompatibility is the
formation of swelling at the tip of a pollen tube. Also, sometimes twisted, bifurcated, and short and thickened
pollen tubes along their entire length are formed. The incompatibility was significantly more pronounced in
the self-pollination than in the open pollination variant in all tested cultivars. The highest number of
incompatible pollen tubes in both pollination types was present in the cultivar ‘Pazardzijska’, while the lowest
number was present in the cultivars ‘Leskovacka’ and ‘Vranjska’. The appearance of incompatibility affected
the degree of fertilization in quince. The results showed that only ‘Leskovacka’ and ‘Vranjska’ are selfcompatible, while other studied cultivars (‘Morava’, ‘Pazardzijska’, ‘Hemus’, ‘Asenica’, ‘Portugal’ and
‘Triumph’) are self-incompatible. The results provide a good background for the future research of
reproductive biology and also for adequate management of the quince orchards.

AB - The work investigated the equipment of tractors, attachments and combines
in a medium-sized family farm. The research was conducted on the registered family
farm "Đurković" in the village of Čestin in the municipality of Knić. The farm cultivates
arable and forage crops for feeding dairy cows and fattening oxen on an area of 44 ha.
In the sowing structure, meadows are the most represented with 20 ha (45.45%),
alfalfa 5 ha (11.36%), silage maize 3 ha (6.83%) and perko 0.4 ha (0.91%). The farm
also grows barley on 2 ha, wheat on 1.5 ha, soybeans on 0.7 ha, oats on 0.4 ha, and
peppers for processing on 40 ares. The production process is carried out with three
tractors, 22 implements, a self-propelled combine for small grains and a combine for
silage. One tractor with an average engine power of 41.4 kV works 14.67 ha of
available land with 7.33 attachments. The total available power of the tractor engine is
129.43 kW, and the energy equipment of the farm is 2.94 kW/ha, which is the average
of family farms in Serbia. If the combine engine power for small grain and silage were
added, the energy equipment would increase to 7.85 kV/ha. Combines are underutilized
because they are used only for subsistence. The average age of mechanization is over
40 years, so replacement and purchase of new agricultural machinery is not possible.

AB - Secale cereale L. is second important bread grain, after wheat, and an economically important crop for functional food. Rye production parameters in world and in Serbia were analysed in this study and quality parameters. The average rye area (4.28 mill. ha) and production (12.12 mil.t) in world, in the five- year period, recorded a growth trend and average grain yield was 3.01 t ha-1. In 2020 in the Republic of Serbia, the average grain yield of rye was 3,23 t ha-1. Rye is considered a healthy cereal due to its high content of dietary fiber and is a rich source of vitamins B and E, minerals: Ca, Fe, F, P, K, Zn, Mn, Cu, K, which is why it is a suitable raw material for the production of functional food. Rye foods have beneficial effects on insulin, which may have positive implications for diabetes prevention. Development of innovative and tasty rye products is crucial in increasing awareness, consumption of rye foods and thus production

AB - In order to have successful breeding, it is necessary to introduce new breeding material constantly and to use it through various types of hybridisation to increase the existing variability. Ten (10) lucerne varieties of different geographic origin were used in the study. Six varieties originated from the Republic of Serbia (Kruševačka 22, Kruševačka 28, NS-Banat ZMS II, NS-Mediana ZMS V, Zaječarska 83 and Čačanka 10), three varieties originated from the Republic of Croatia (Osječka 66, Osječka 88 and Osječka 99) and one variety originated from the Republika Srpska (Banjalučanka). A total of 100 seeds per each of 10 (ten) lucerne varieties were placed in Petri dishes to germinate. The dishes were placed in the seed germination chamber with the altering temperature of 20 oС in the dark for 16 h and 30 oС in the light for 8 h for seven days. The first green leaflets of lucerne seedlings (cotyledons) were used for the DNA extraction. The first and the second axes from the principal coordinates analysis accounted for a total of 63.1% of genetic variation, contained in the original dataset. It is clearly observed that the genotype Zaječarska 83 is genetically most distant from other studied lucerne genotypes. These studies confirmed that the observed collection of lucerne varieties is variable enough for the successful breeding process. Using an appropriate breeding model it is possible to breed varieties for certain purposes.

AB - During the two-year period, the characteristics of one-year-old shoots in 11 promising peach hybrids obtained from the cross ‘Flaminia’ × ‘Autumnglo’ were studied. The analyzed characteristics included: length and diameter of shoot, length of internode, number of flower buds and vegetative buds per shoot, ratio of flower to vegetative buds, number of flower buds per node and 1-m length of a shoot. Most of these characteristics varied significantly between the studied hybrids. The highest variability was found for number of flower buds per 1-m length of a shoot and length of internode, and the smallest for diameter of shoots. The length of shoot ranged from 35.1 cm (hybrid FA1) to 51.3 cm (hybrid FA6). The length of internode was consistent with the length of shoot. The highest number of flower buds per shoot and node was found in FA10 hybrid (36.0 and 1.52, respectively), and the lowest in FA5 hybrid (20.3 and 0.79, respectively). The number of flower buds per 1 m length varied from 57.1 (hybrid FA5) to 96.7 (hybrid FA1). Hybrids with the highest density of flower buds (FA1, FA9, and FA10) were singled out as potentially the most yielding. These hybrids may be of interest for growing in areas where there is a risk of frost and in breeding when creating new peach cultivars of high yield potential. © 2022 International Society for Horticultural Science.
