Rootstock influence on yield, vigor and pomological characteristics of almond cultivars

AB  - The paper presents results of a study conducted in Surduk during 2014-2016, in almond orchard that reached full production capacity. The trial included three almond cultivars (‘Troito’, ‘Texas’ and ‘Marcona’) grafted onto two rootstocks (cherry plum seedlings and GF 677). Yield, vigor, and pomological characteristics of nut and kernel were evaluated in order to recommend an appropriate rootstock for commercial almond growing. Generally, the trees onto vegetative rootstock GF 677 had higher yield, were vigorous and had higher values of most of studied characteristics than the trees grafted onto generative rootstock. Within the studied cultivars, ‘Texas’ showed the highest values for fruit weight and ratio, while ‘Marcona’ showed the lowest values. On the basis of the results we can recommend GF 677 as suitable rootstock for orchards with standard planting distance (500 trees per hectare), without irrigation, so as for soils containing higher level of lime.
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati istraživanja sprovedenog u Surduku u periodu 2014-2016. godina, u zasadu badema u punoj rodnosti. Kod tri sorte badema (Troito, Texas i Marcona) koje su okalemljene na dve podloge (sejanac džanarike i GF 677) ispitivane su sledeće karakteristike: prinos, bujnost stabla i pomološke karakteristike ploda i jezgre. Generalno, stabla na vegetativnoj podlozi GF 677 su bila prinosnija, bujnija i imala su veće prosečne vrednosti za većinu proučavanih pomoloških osobina nego stabla na generativnoj podlozi. Među ispitivanim sortama najveće vrednosti za težinu jezgre i randman utvrđene su kod sorte Texas, a najmanje kod sorte Marcona. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata podloga GF 677 se preporučuje za zasade sa standardnim rastojanjem (do 500 stabala po hektaru) u kojima se navodnjavanje ne primenjuje, kao i za zemljišta sa povećanim sadržajem kreča.

Effective pollination period in 'oblacinska' sour cherry clones

AB  - To obtain high yields there should be high flower density and fruit set in sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) production. Furthermore, in order to ensure successful fertilization, there should be satisfactory stigma receptivity, rapid pollen tube growth along the style, as well as adequate ovule longevity. This manuscript presents the study of the effective pollination period (EPP) of four 'Oblacinska' sour cherry clones (II/2, III/9, XI/3 and XIII/1) that differs in pollen germination, fruit set and yields. In order to estimate EPP, pollination was conducted in six different stages of flower development: balloon stage, 2 d before anthesis (-2), at anthesis (0), and 2, 4, 6 and 8 d after anthesis (DAA). The initial (IFS) and final fruit set (FFS) were recorded under the field conditions. Alongside with this, the rate of pollen tubes growth in the style was observed with fluorescent microscopy. The experimental design was completely randomized, a two-factorial analysis of variance was carried out and individual testing was performed using LSD test (p  lt = 0.05; p  lt = 0.01). The experiment was set in triplicates. Regarding FFS, clones II/2 and III/9 showed the best results (p  lt = 0.01) in 4 and 6 DAA. The number of pollen tubes in the style of the pistil decreased with subsequent terms of pollination, while its number in the ovule increased up to sixth day after pollination, followed by a decline. Clones II/2 and III/9 showed EPP which lasted from 6 to 8 d, while EPP found in clone XI/3, lasted only 2 d. It is concluded that only clone having long EPP should be used as parents for creating new sour cherry cultivars.

Dehydrogenase isoenzyme polymorphism in genus Prunus, subgenus Cerasus

AB  - Dehydrogenase polymorphism was studied in 36 sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.), sweet cherry (Prunus avuim L.), mahaleb (Prunus mahaleb L.), ground cherry (Prunus fruticosa Pall.), duke cherry (Prunus gondounii Redh.), Japanese flowering cherry (Prunus serrulata Lindl.) and four iterspecific hybrids (standard cherry rootstocks ‘Gisela 5’, ‘Gisela 6’, ‘Max Ma’ and ‘Colt’). Inner bark of one-year-old shoots, in dormant stage, was used for enzyme extraction. Vertical PAGE was used for isoenzyme analysis: alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), formate dehydrogenase (FDH), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), isocitrate dehydrogenaze (IDH), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD), and shikimate dehydrogenase (SDH). All studied systems were polymorphic at 10 loci: Adh -1 (3 genotypes) and Adh-2 (5 genotypes), Fdh-1 (2 genotypes), Gdh-1 (3 genotypes), Idh-1 (4 genotypes) i Idh -2 (5 genotypes), Mdh-1 (3 genotypes), Pgd-1 (4 genotypes), Sdh-1 (1 genotype) i Sdh-2 (3 genotypes). Cluster analysis was used to construct dendrogram on which four groups of similar genotypes were separated. Obtained results indicate that studied enzyme systems can be used for determination of genus Prunus, subgenus Cerasus. Among studied enzyme systems ADH, IDH and SDH were the most polymorphic and most useful to identify genetic variability. Polymorphism of FDH and GDH in genus Prunus, subgenus Cerasus was described first time in this work. First results for dehydrogenase variability of Oblačinska indicate that polymorphism of loci Idh-2 and Sdh-2 can be useful for discrimination of different clones.
AB  - Polimorfizam dehidrogenaza proučavan je kod 36 genotipova višnje (Prunus cerasus L.), trešnje (P. avuim L.), magrive (P. mahaleb L.), stepske višnje (P. fruticosa Pall.), marele (P. gondounii Redh.), japanske ukrasne trešnje (P. serrulata Lindl.) kao i četiri interspecies hibrida koji se koriste kao standardne podloge za trešnju: Gisela 5, Gisela 6, Max Ma i Colt.. Za pripremanje enzimskog ekstrakta korišćena je unutrašnja kora jednogodišnjih grančica, prikipljenih u fazi mirovanja. Metoda vertikalne poliakrilamidne gel elektroforeze (PAGE) korišćena je za razdvajanje proteina za analizu enzimskih sistema: ADH (alkohol dehidrogenaze), FDH (format dehidrogenaze), GDH (glutamat dehidrogenaze), IDH (izocitrat dehidrogenaze), MDH (malat dehidrogenaze), PGD (fosfoglukonat dehidrogenaze) i SDH (šikimat dehidrogenaze). Polimorfizam je utvrđen za sve proučavane sisteme. Nutritional and health benefit properties of almond

AB  - The almonds are the rich source of energy, nutrients, fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytosterols, which makes them well-balanced food product. It contains no cholesterol. They are a particularly important source of mono unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic and palmitic, which help lower LDL or 'bad cholesterol' and increase HDL or 'good cholesterol'. Daily consumption of raw almonds with skin in the quantity of 56 g reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. In addition hull has medicinal characteristics too.
AB  - Jezgra badema bogat su izvor energije, nutrijenata, celuloze, vitamina, minerala i fitosterola što ih čini dobro izbalansiranom namirnicom. Ne sadrži holesterol. Posebno su značajan izvor mono nezasićenih masnih kiselina kao što su oleinska i palmitinska koje pomažu snižavanju LDL ili 'lošeg holesterola' i povećanju HDL ili 'dobrog holesterola'. Svakodnevnom konzumacijom badema sa pokožicom u količini od 56 g smanjuje se opasnost od srčanih bolesti, dijabetesa i kancera. Osim jezgre lekovita svojstva ima i klapina.

Ne sadrži holesterol. AB  - The paper presents the results of three year (2004-2006) study of chemical composition in 19 almond genotypes, selected from Slankamen hill. The aim of this work was selection of the genotypes having high kernel quality. The lowest total dry matter was established for genotype 1/03 (92.64%), and highest for genotype 29/03 (94.44%). Significant variability was obtained for content of oil (45.82% to 56.14%) and of crude protein (20.94 do 26.85%). Mineral matter in kernel varied from 3.21% to 4.33%. Considering nutritive value, the most interesting are genotypes with high kernel oil content (over 55%) 10/03, 11/03, 17/03 as well as genotypes 18/03, 19/03, 22/03 having crude protein content of more than 25%. .
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati trogodišnjeg (2004-2006) ispitivanja hemijskog sastava 19 genotipova badema koji su selekcionisani na području Slankamenačkog brega. Cilj rada je bio izdvajanje genotipova koji se odlikuju visokim kvalitetom jezgre. Najmanji sadržaj suvih materija utvrđen je za genotip 1/03 (92,64%), a najveći za genotip 29/03 (94,44%). Značajna variranja utvrđena su za prosečan sadržaj ulja (45,82% do 56,14%) i za prosečan sadržaj sirovih proteina (20,94 do 26,85%). Prosečan sadržaj mineralnih materija bio je u intervalu od 3,21% do 4,33%. Sa aspekta nutritivne vrednosti izdvajaju se genotipovi 10/03, 11/03 i 17/03 sa visokim sadržajem ulja u jezgri (preko 55%) kao i genotipovi 18/03, 19/03, 22/03 sa sadržajem sirovih proteina preko 25%. .
