AB - Ensiling of lucerne of the second cut at the beginning of flowering, with or without bacterial-enzyme preparation (inoculant) Sill-All (produced by Alltech Inc.) was done in experimental silos. Raw and boiled potato was used as the carbohydrate additive at the amount of 30% of fresh lucerne mass. The experiment was organised as two-factorial (2 x 3, n=3), where factor A was inoculant (a1 = without inoculant, a2 = with inoculant), and factor V was the type of the carbohydrate additive (b1 = alfalfa without additives-control, b2 = alfalfa + raw potato, b3 = alfalfa + boiled potato). Experimental silos were opened after 60 days and parameters of chemical composition and silage quality were examined, AOAC, 1984. Obtained results were evaluated by analyses of variance using Tukey's test of significance, Snedecor and Cochran, 1982. The use of Sill-All inoculant significantly decreased of the crude fibre content, and on reduced synthesis of lactic, acetic and butyric acid. Heat processing of potato inactivated undesirable micro flora and achieved partial starch gelatinisation. As a result treatments with boiled potato had the lowest pH values, and the level of ammonia and soluble nitrogen. At the same time, they had the highest amount of lactic acid. Treatments with raw potato showed the lowest silage quality, therefore this kind of additive is not recommendable for practical use.

AB - The purpose of this investigation was to increase wool yield, live weight and gain of lambs by better feeding of pregnant sheep. Sheep in the treatment A were at a lower feeding level than those in the treatment B. After 100 days of pregnancy in winter, 10 sheep in the treatment A had signs of wool loss. Until lambing, 16 sheep or 40% in the treatment A had partial wool loss. On the other hand, wool loss in the treatment B was noticed in three sheep or 7.5% of the group. About 2/3 of sheep with wool loss were sheep with twins. Mean wool yield was 2.56 kg and 3.10 kg in the treatment A, i.e. the treatment B, respectively. Better feeding of ewes resulted in wool yield higher by 0.54 kg or 21.1%. A low level feeding affected foetus gain less than wool gain. The mean birth live weight of lambs was 2.72 kg, i.e. 3.31 kg in treatments A and B, respectively. The live weight of lambs at 30 days of age was 8.87 kg and 10.37 kg in treatments A and B, respectively. During the first month lambs gained 205 kg and 235 kg day-1 in the treatments A and B, respectively (P lt 0.05).
Razlika iznosi 30 g ili 14,6% (P lt 0,05) u korist jagnjadi bolje hranjenih ovaca.

AB - The results obtained on the influence of different percents of undegradable proteins in the total dietary protein on physical properties of wool fibre in F1 lamb generation (Pramenka x Virtemberg) did not show significant or highly significant differences among investigated treatments. The level of undegradable proteins in concentrated mixtures used was 38 : 55 : 62% in these treatments. The total protein content was approximately the same over all treatments (17.24, 17.98 and 17.93%). The average wool fibre height on treatments I : II : III was 3.45 : 2.84 : 3.33 cm, length 4.83 : 3.83 : 4.16 cm, the number of curves per cm length was 4.34 : 4.30 : 3.95, while fibre diameter was 24.10 : 23.08 : 24.31 mm. A very uniform effect of investigated treatments on physical properties of wool fibre can be explained by a relatively short fattening period. Also the lambs were very young, hence, these treatments could be more pronounced in older animals.

AB - Carbohydrate balancing in order to achieve maximum energy intake with simultaneous providing adequate quantities of fiber in the diet is a very complex problem in feeding of all high producing ruminants, particularly dairy cows. Adequate balance of carbohydrates provides nutrient digestion, high level of microbial protein synthesis and maintains stabile fermentation in the rumen. Since feeding conditions vary very much from farm to farm it is very hard to give clearly defined recommendations related to the share of certain fractions of carbohydrates in the diet. Due to this, along with the frame ensured by recommendations, all production parameters must be carefully observed. In accordance with these observations, diet should be adjusted to feeding conditions on any individual farm.

AB - The effects of high air temperatures and high relative air humidity (from the beginning of May till the end of September) on feeding behavior of cows, milk production and milk fat, were observed in black-pied breed on seven farms in the vicinity of Belgrade during three summers (1997-1999). Green mass (produced in conveyer) in the amount of 20-25 kg a day per cow was a base for the cow feeding ratio. The other part of the ratio consisted of whole maize plant silage (30-35% DM, 10-12 kg), alfalfa hay (1-2 kg), dry beet pulp (2 kg) and concentrate (15% crude protein, 0.25 kg kg-1 milk). Cows were kept in open stables, while water was given at libitum. High environmental temperatures (above 21oC, especially those higher than 26oC) and high air humidity lowered daily intakes of feeds and reduced milk production. The poorer isolation of stables from the direct exposure to sun was, the higher negative effects were.
Međutim, povremene visoke temperature spoljne sredine (preko 21oC, a naročito one iznad 26oC) i visoka vlažnost vazduha snižavale su konzumiranje hrane i proizvodnju mleka.

AB - The productivity of cows are along with genetic parameters significantly influenced by the animals diet. The feeding has large influence on the milk yield but also on its composition. The recommendations are that there have to be 13-15% crude fiber in the diet which enables the high percent of milk fat. In high productive animals higher amount of concentrates in the diet is required. Usage of additional concentrate mixture enables better diet balancing. Relatively low amount of hay with good quality silage or fresh green forage with the appropriate concentrate mixture enables good and economic production and full realization of cows genetic potentials. Special care should be paid to feed and feeding in dairy production. .

AB - This review considers using different supplements in feeding the most sensitive categories of cattle with high genetic potential, cows in postpartal period and calves in the first few weeks of age. There are discussions about the results of recent research in using trace minerals in organic complexes in relation to inorganic form. There are also effects of using vitamin A, (-carotene, biotin, absorbents of toxic matter (micotoxine and ammonia), benefits of enzymes, buffers in rumen, bacteria's of lactic acid and other supplements for diet and feeds. The results of investigation show that nutritional supplements can improve physiological and metabolic processes in body, give better health, better feed efficiency, successful reproduction and production performance, easier prevention and stress consequence relief. .
AB - U ovom preglednom radu razmatrana su novija saznanja o korišćenju različitih dodataka u ishrani najosetljivijih kategorija goveda, visokog genetskog potencijala, i to krava u postpartalnom periodu i teladi u prvim danima života. Izneti rezultati ukazuju da nutritivni dodaci pospešuju fiziološke i metaboličke procese u organizmu, doprinose boljem zdravstvenom stanju, boljem iskorišćavanju hrane, odnosno uspešnijoj reprodukciji i produkciji i uspešnijem preventiranju i otklanjanju posledica stresa.

AB - In this review it has been shown that many factors influence production performances in lamb fattening. Among the most important factors are: breed characteristic, age, sex, castration, individual characteristic of animals, breeding conditions, type of diet, level of feeding and diet composition, i.e. rate and composition of gain. Besides, the profitability of fattening depends on the cost of animals, diet and feeding, amortization, risk in production and other expenses in relation to the possibility of prompt sale and selling price of lambs. .

AB - Protein degradibility in concentrates and by-products commonly used was determined by the in situ method on two ruminally cannulated lactating cows. The investigated feeds and their effective protein degradability at a rumen outtlow rate od 5% per hour were: wheat bran - 44,6%; maize meal - 37.1% oat meal - 40.6%; soybean meal - 42.1%; sunflower meal - 68.8%; dried sugar beet pulp 21.2%; pea grain - 62.4%; faba bean grain - 47.1%. The results for maize and sunflover meals are in agreement with those of other authors but most feeds had a somewhat lower protein degradability than expected.

AB - Starch degradability in eight commonly used concentrats was determined by the in situ method using two ruminally cannulated lactaing cows. The investigated feeds and their effective starch degradability at a rumen outlow rate of 5% per hour were: wheat bran 75.8%, maize grain 19.9%, oat grain 61, 7%, soybean meal 77,2%, sunflower meal 43.5% dried sugar beet pulp 39.6%, pea grain 75.3%, faba bean graain 58.5%. For some feeds (wheat bran, maize grain) starch degradability was lower, for some higher (oat grain, pea grain) and for only one feed (faba bean grain) was it close to the results found by other authors.
