Effect of non-genetic factors on longevity traits in Simmental cows

AB  - The effects of fixed non-genetic factors (farm, season of birth, year of birth, total number of lactations) and a continuous non-genetic factor (age at first conception) on the expression and variability of longevity traits such as age at culling, length of productive life, days in milk and cow efficiency index were investigated in 2548 Simmental cows in three farming areas. Based on the model used for the analysis of the effects of non-genetic factors, including the environment and cow age at first conception, on the expression and variability of longevity traits, the overall means for age at culling, length of productive life, days in milk and cow efficiency index were 2445.21±17.49 days, 1562.55±17.71 days, 1094.17±12.28 days and 58.68±0.32%, respectively. The effect of farming area, year of birth and lactation group on longevity traits was very significant (P lt 0.01), whereas the effect of season of birth was significant (P lt 0.05). Age at first conception had a highly significant (P lt 0.01) effect on age at culling, length of productive life and cow efficiency index, and no significant effect on days in milk (P>0.05). Based on the model used, the coefficients of determination (R2 ) were very significant (P lt 0.01) for all longevity traits, and ranged from 0.898 for age at culling to 0.959 for days in milk.
AB  - Uticaj fiksnih (farma, sezona i godina rođenja, ukupan broj laktacija) i kontinuelnih (uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji) sistematskih faktora na ispoljenost i varijabilnost osobina dugovečnosti kao što su uzrast pri izlučenju, dužina produktivnog života, ukupan broj muznih dana i indeks iskorišćavanja krava proučavan je na uzorku od 2548 simentalskih krava raspoređenih na tri odgajivačka područja. Na osnovu primenjenog modela za analizu uticaja sistematskih faktora okoline i uzrasta krava pri prvoj oplodnji na ispoljenost i varijabilnost osobina dugovečnosti opšti prosek za uzrast pri izlučenju, dužinu produktivnog života, ukupan broj muznih dana i indeks iskorišćavanja krava iznosio je 2445,21±17,49 dana, 1562,55±17,71 dana, 1094,17±12,28 dana i 58,68±0,32%. AB  - An analysis of the phenotypic exposure and variability of lifetime milk production and milk fat and the content of milk fat of lifetime milk production was performed in 241 cows of Simental race distributed in three breeding areas (Čačak n = 67, Zlatibor n = 123 and Rudno n = 51).
Descriptive statistical analysis found that the average lifetime milk production and milk fat in all three breeding areas was 16081 and 627.2 kg with a variability of about 40%. The average number of lactations during the productive life of cows was 3.73 and ranged from 4.31 in the area of Čačak to 3.45 in the Rudna area. The variability was high and on average it was about 35%, which resulted from a wide variation interval ranging from only 3 to 10 lactation per head. The average content of lifetime productions milk fat was 3.91%. The content of milk fat of lifetime milk production, unlike milk production of milk and milk fat, is more influenced by genetic factors, which is why it is characterized by a very low variability of only 2.30%.
AB  - Analiza fenotipske ispoljenosti i varijabilnosti životne proizvodnje mleka i mlečne masti i sadržaja mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka sprovedena je kod 241 krave simentalske rase raspoređenih na tri odgajivačka područja (Čačak n=67, Zlatibor n=123 i Rudno n=51).
Deskriptivnom statističkom analizom ustanovljeno je da je prosečna životna proizvodnja mleka i mlečne masti na sva tri odgajivačka područja iznosila 16081 i 627,2 kg sa varijabilnošću od oko 40%. Prosečan broj laktacija u toku produktivnog života krava iznosio je 3,73 i kretao se od 4,31 na području Čačka do 3,45 na području Rudna. Varijabilnost je bila visoka i u proseku je iznosila oko 35%, što je posledica širokog intervala varijacije koji se kretao od svega 3 pa do 10 laktacija po grlu. Prosečan sadržaj mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka iznosio je 3,91%. Sadržaj mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka, za razliku od životne proizvodnje mleka i mlečne masti,više je pod uticajem genetskih faktora zbog čega se odlikuje dosta niskom varijabilnošću od svega 2,30%.

AB  - Behavior, welfare and protection of cattle are an integral part of organic livestock breeding. Organic production considers animals being cultivated in accordance with their basic needs, supporting most of their normal forms of behavior (inborn and acquired), while respecting the basic principles of well-being and protection. Organic as an alternative to conventional production respects the importance of behavior, welfare and protection of animals and is therefore  in line with natural animals needs.
Being familiar and understanding the behavior of animals is of multiple importance for successful breeding of cattle regardless to applied production system (intensive, extensive or organic).
Animal welfare and protection is a complex biotechnological issue and contains an aspect of science (biology, veterinary medicine, agronomy)and aspects of ethics. The welfare implies the quality of life and harmonious relationship of animal with its environment; as such, it became present in conventional and unavoidable topic in organic production in livestock breeding.
AB  - Ponašanje, dobrobit i zaštita gajenih životinja predstavljaju integralni deo organskog stočarstva. U organskoj proizvodnji životinje se moraju uzgajati u skladu sa njihovim bazičnim potrebama, odnosno na način u kome će ispoljiti najveći deo njihovih normalnih oblika ponašanja (urođenih i stečenih) uz poštovanje osnovnih načela dobrobiti i zaštite. Uvažavajući značaj ponašanja, dobrobiti i zaštite životinja organska proizvodnja, kao alternativa konvencionalnoj, upravo je usklađena sa prirodnim potrebama životinja.
Poznavanje i razumevanje ponašanja životinja od višestrukog je značaja za uspešno gajenje domaćih životinja bez obzira o kom sistemu proizvodnje je reč (intenzivni, ekstenzivni ili organski). 
Dobrobit i zaštita životinja je jedno kompleksno biotehničko pitanje i u sebi sadrži kako aspekt nauke (biologije, veterine, agronomije), tako i aspekte etike. Dobrobit podrazumeva kvalitet života i harmoničan odnos životinje sa okruženjem te je kao takva postala aktuelna u konvencionalnoj i nezaobilazna tema u organskoj proizvodnji u stočarstvu.

AB  - The effect of systematic and continuous environmental factors on 4% fat corrected milk (FCM) yield in 2805 Simmental cows over whole and standard lactations was evaluated using the general linear model. The test systematic or fixed factors included the effect of farm or breeding area, calving season, year of birth, season of birth, lactation group and interactions between year of birth and season of birth, breeding area and calving season, and breeding area and lactation group. The continuous factor analysed was the effect of age at first conception. The effect of breeding area, lactation group and calving season on 4%FCM yield over whole and standard lactations was found to be very highly significant (P lt 0.001). The interactions of fixed i.e. systematic factors involved in the model, including those between year and season of birth, breeding area and calving season, and farm and lactation group had a very highly significant effect (P lt 0.001) on 4% FCM yield over both whole and standard lactations. The age at first conception, as a continuous factor, showed a very highly significant effect (P lt 0.001) on 4% FCM yield over both whole and standard lactations. The model used to correct the 4%FCM yield over whole and standard lactations for the effect of systematic factors was very highly significant (P lt 0.001). The variance of the model accounted for 15.93% and 21.55% of the total variance in 4% FCM yield over whole and standard lactations, respectively. The resulting coefficient of determination (R2) in 4% FCM yield was 0.159 over whole lactations and 0.216 over standard lactations.
AB  - Analiza uticaja sistematskih i kontinuelnih faktora okoline na proizvodnju 4% mast-korigovanog mleka u celim i standardnim laktacijama kod 2805 krava simentalske rase izvršena je primenom opšteg linearnog modela. Od sistematskih odnosno fiksnih faktora analiziran je uticaj farme ili odgajivačkog područja, sezone telenja, godine i sezone rođenja, grupe laktacija i interakcije između godine i sezone rođenja, odgajivačkog područja i sezone telenja i odgajivačkog područja i grupe laktacija. Od kontinuelnih faktora posmatran je uticaj uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji. Uticaj odgajivačkog područja, grupe laktacija i sezone telenja na proizvodnju 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama bila je vrlo visoko značajna (P lt 0.001). Interakcije fiksnih, odnosno sistematskih faktora, uključenih u model, kao što su interakcija između godine i sezone rođenja, zatim odgajivačkog područja i sezone telenja i farme i grupe laktacija, na proizvodnju 4%MKM kako u celim tako i u standardnim laktacijama imale su vrlo visoko značajan uticaj (P lt 0.001). Uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji, kao kontinuelni faktor, statistički vrlo visoko značajno (P lt 0.001) je uticao na proizvodnju 4% mast-korigovanog mleka i u celim i u standardnim laktacijama. Primenjeni model za korekciju proizvodnje 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama na dejstvo sistematskih faktora bio je vrlo visoko značajan (P lt 0.001). Udeo varijanse modela u ukupnoj varijansi kretao se od 15.93% kod proizvodnje 4%MKM u celim laktacijama do 21.55% kod proizvodnje 4%MKM u standardnim laktacijama. Dobijeni koeficijenti determinacije (R2) kod proizvodnje 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama iznosili su 0.159 i 0.216.

AB  - In scientific literature, fertility is generally assessed through age at first conception, gestation length, length of service period, calving interval, and calf birth weight.
Determination of the effect of particular non-genetic factors on the above traits is a vital step in cattle breeding and reproduction. 
Length of calving interval is largely governed by the effect of non-genetic factors, viz. fixed effects generally including the effect of breeding region, season of birth, calving season, year of birth, calf sex and their interactions, and continuous or regression effects including age at first conception or age at calving. 
The effect of fixed and continuous non-genetic factors on length of calving period was analysed in 245 Simmental cows (907 calving interval) in three breeding regions, with the effect of season of birth as a fixed factor and cow age at first conception as a continuous factor being highly significant (P  lt  0.01), and that of season of calving being significant (P  lt  0.05). The effect of breeding region, year of birth, parity group or age and calf sex was statistically non-significant (P > 0.05).
AB  - U literaturi plodnost se najčešće posmatra preko uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji, trajanja bremenitosti, servis perioda, intervala između telenja i mase teladi pri rođenju. 
Determinisanje uticaja pojedinih sistematskih faktora na pomenute osobine od velike je važnosti u procesu odgajivanja i reprodukcije goveda.
Dužina intervala između telenja definisana je najvećim delom dejstvom paragenetskih faktora, od kojih kao fiksni uticaji najčešće se pominju uticaj odgajivačkog područja, sezone rođenja i telenja, godine rođenja, pola teladi i njihove interakcije, a od kontinuelnih ili regresijskih uzrast krava pri prvoj oplodnji ili telenju.
Analiza uticaja fiksnih i kontinuiranih negenetskih faktora na dužinu odnosno trajanje intervala između telenja izvršena je kod 245 krava (907 međutelidbenih intervala) simentalske rase raspoređenih na tri odgajivačka područja pri čemu je uticaj sezone rođenja kao fiksnog i uzrasta krava pri prvoj oplodnji kao kontinuiranog faktora bio visoko značajan (P lt 0.01) dok je uticaj sezone telenja na dužinu međutelidbenog intervala bio značajan.(P lt 0.05). Uticaj  odgajivačkog područja, godine rođenja, grupe partusa odnosno starosti kao i pola teladi nije bio statistički značajan (P>0.05).

The mathematical and statistical analysis of the data obtained, i.e. least square means, standard error, analysis of variance and coefficient determination, were calculated using the General Linear Model procedure. The effects of farm, lactation group and year of birth on the trait were very highly significant (P lt 0.001). Birth season and calving season had no statistically significant effect (P> 0.05) on the production of 4% FCM, either in whole or in standard lactations. The interaction between birth season, calving season and year of birth was variable and ranged from insignificant to very significant.
Age at first conception produced a significant (P lt 0.05) and non-significant (P>0.05) effect on 4% FCM yield in complete and standard (bxy=0.693ns) lactations, respectively.
AB  - Uticaj paragenetskih faktora na proizvodnju 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama ispitivan je na uzorku od 241 krave simentalske rase.
Na ispoljenost ove osobine ispitivan je uticaj farme, broja laktacija, sezone rođenja i telenja, njihovih interakcija i uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji.
Matematičko-statistička analiza podataka, odnosno sve potrebne veličine, kao što su sredine najmanjih kvadrata, standardne greške, analiza varijanse i koeficijenti determinacije izračunate su u programskoj proceduri Opšti linearni model (GLM procedura). Uticaj farme, grupe laktacija i godine rođenja na ispoljenost ove osobine bio je vrlo visoko značajan (P lt 0.001). Sezona rođenja i telenja nije statistički značajno uticala (P>0.05) na proizvodnju 4%MKM kako u celim tako i standardnim laktacijama. Uticaj interakcije između sezone rođenja,, sezone telenja i godine rođenja bio je varjabilan, i kretao se od nesignifikantnog do vrlo značajnog. AB  - This study was conducted to evaluate the phenotypic expression and variability of lifetime performance traits (lifetime yields of milk, fat and 4%FCM, milk fat content, milk yield per milking day, milk yield per day of productive life and milk yield per day of life) and the effect of systematic factors (breeding region, total lactation number, year of birth and season of birth) and age at first conception on the above traits in 2548 Simmental cows. The test Simmental cows achieved the following: lifetime yields of milk, fat and 4%FCM - 14604, 554.8 and 14157 kg, respectively, milk fat content of lifetime milk yield - 3.81%, milk yield per milking day - 12.79, milk yield per day of productive life - 9.31 and milk yield per day of life - 5.46 kg. The marked variability of the traits, along with a certain percent of high-producing cows, enables further success in their selection.
AB  - Ispitivanje fenotipske ispoljenosti i varijabilnosti osobina životne proizvodnje (životna proizvodnja mleka, mlečne masti i 4%MKM, sadržaj mlečne masti kao i proizvodnja mleka po muznom produktivnom i životnom danu) izvršeno je na uzorku od 2548 krava simentalske rase. Na analiziranom uzorku simentalskih krava ostvarena životna proizvodnja mleka, mlečne masti i 4%MKM iznosila je 14604, 554.8 i 14157 kg, sadržaj mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka 3.81%, dok je proizvodnja mleka po muznom, produktivnom i životnom danu iznosila 12.79, 9.31 i 5.46 kg. Izražena varijabilnost ovih osobina, sa izvesnim procentom visoko proizvodnih grla, omogućava dalji uspešan rad u njihovoj selekciji.

The marked variability of the traits, along with a certain percent of high-producing cows, enables further success in their selection., Ispitivanje fenotipske ispoljenosti i varijabilnosti osobina životne proizvodnje (životna proizvodnja mleka, mlečne masti i 4%MKM, sadržaj mlečne masti kao i proizvodnja mleka po muznom produktivnom i životnom danu) izvršeno je na uzorku od 2548 krava simentalske rase. Na analiziranom uzorku simentalskih krava ostvarena životna proizvodnja mleka, mlečne masti i 4%MKM iznosila je 14604, 554.8 i 14157 kg, sadržaj mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka 3.81%, dok je proizvodnja mleka po muznom, produktivnom i životnom danu iznosila 12.79, 9.31 i 5.46 kg. Izražena varijabilnost ovih osobina, sa izvesnim procentom visoko proizvodnih grla, omogućava dalji uspešan rad u njihovoj selekciji.",

Influence of lipolysis and ketogenesis to metabolic and hematological parameters in dairy cows during periparturient period

AB  - The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics of the metabolic profile and complete blood count in cows in the periparturient period on the basis of the intensity of lipolysis and ketogenesis (concentration of non esterified fatty acid - NEFA and betahydroxybutyrate - BHB). Based on median values of NEFA and BHB cows were divided into 3 groups: cows physiologically burdened with catabolism (NEFA and BHB levels above the median one week after parturition), cows significantly burdened with catabolism (NEFA and BHB levels above the median one week before and after parturition) and cows that are not burdened with catabolism (NEFA and BHB below the median, i.e. the control group). The median value of NEFA was 0.27 mmol/L one week before parturition and 0.61 mmol/L one week after it. The median value of BHB was 0.51 mmol/L one week before parturition and 0.99 mmol/L one week after it. A significant group effect was shown for each week separately, so that cows physiologically burdened with catabolism and/or cows significantly burdened with catabolism compared to the control group have the following features of the metabolic profile and complete blood count: higher concentrations of NEFA and BHB (weeks: -1, 1, 2, 4, 8), lower concentrations of glucose (weeks: 1, 4), lower concentration of cholesterol (week 8), lower concentrations of total protein (weeks: 1, 2), lower concentrations of urea (weeks: 1, 2, 4, 8) and a higher concentration of bilirubin (weeks: - 1, 1, 2, 4, 8), increased levels of AST (weeks: -1, 1) and ALT (weeks: -1, 2), lower value of Ca (week -1), lower hemoglobin concentration (week -1), lower white blood cell count (week 4), a larger number of neutrophils (weeks: -1, 1, 2) and a higher number of lymphocytes (week 4). Using the method of factor analysis and principal components showed that NEFA, BHB and glucose are the major components that affect the metabolic profile and blood count, making 71.8% of the variability of all parameters. Cows with hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia, hypoalbuminemia, hyperbilirubinemia, decreased hemoglobin concentration and/or red blood cell count and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio >1 showed significantly higher concentrations of NEFA and BHB compared to cows with parameters within normal ranges. Complete ROC (receiver operating characteristics) analysis showed that NEFA and BHB are important diagnostic indicators that allow the separation of cows with parameters out of the reference values from cows with normal values of parameters in the metabolic profile and blood count (0.5 lt AUC lt 0.87). Reliability of identification of cows with parameters that are out of the reference value increases with increasing concentrations of NEFA and BHB, which confirms that intense lipolysis and ketogenesis start a series of compensatory processes in the metabolism in cows. The results confirm that NEFA and BHB significantly affect the value of numerous metabolic and hematological parameters in the periparturient period.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je bio da se ispitaju karakteristike metaboličkog profila i krvne slike krava u peripartalnom periodu na osnovu intenziteta lipolize i ketogeneze (koncentracija NEFA i BHB). Na osnovu vrednosti medijane NEFA i BHB krave su podeljene u 3 grupe: krave fiziološki opterećene katabolizmom (NEFA i BHB iznad medijane u nedelji posle partusa), krave značajno opterećene katabolizmom (NEFA i BHB iznad medijane u nedelji pre i posle partusa) i krave koje nisu opterećene katabolizmom (NEFA i BHB ispod medijane). Srednja vrednost NEFA bila je 0.27 mmol/l u nedelji pre partusa i 0.61 mmol/l u nedelji posle partusa. Srednja vrednost BHB iznosila je 0.51mmol/l u nedelji pre partusa i 0.99 mmol/l u nedelji posle partusa. Dokazan je signifikantan uticaj grupe za svaku nedelju posebno, tako da krave fiziološki opterećene katabolizmom i/ili značajno opterećene katabolizmom u odnosu na kontrolnu grupu imaju: višu koncentraciju NEFA i BHB (nedelje: -1, 1, 2, 4, 8), nižu koncentraciju glukoze (nedelje:1, 4), nižu koncentraciju holesterola (nedelja 8), nižu koncentraciju ukupnih proteina (nedelje:1, 2), nižu koncentraciju uree (nedelje:1, 2, 4, 8) i višu koncentraciju bilirubina (nedelje: -1, 1, 2, 4, 8), višu aktivnost AST (nedelje: -1, 1) i ALT (nedelje: -1, 2), nižu vrednost Ca (nedelja -1), nižu koncentraciju hemoglobina (nedelja -1), manji broj leukocita (nedelja 4), veći broj neutrofila (nedelje: -1, 1, 2) i veći broj limfocita (nedelja 4). Faktorskom analizom i metodom glavnih komponenti utvrđeno je su NEFA, BHB i glukoza najznačajnije komponente koje utiču na metabolički profil i krvnu sliku čineći 71.8% varijabilnosti svih parametara. Krave kod kojih je utvrđena hipoglikemija, hipokalcemija, hipoalbuminemija, hiperbilirubinemija, snižena koncentracija hemoglobina i/ili broj eritrocita i odnos neutrofila i limfocita >1 imaju značajno višu koncentraciju NEFA i BHB u odnosu na krave sa vrednostima ovih parametara u okviru referentnih. Kompletnom ROC (receiver operating characteristics) analizom je dokazano da su NEFA i BHB značajni dijagnostički indikatori koji omogućavaju razdvajanje krava sa parametrima izvan referentnih vrednosti od krava čiji su parametri u okviru referentnih vrednosti (0.5 lt AUC lt  0.87). Pouzdanost identifikacije krava sa parametrima izvan referentneih vrednosti raste sa porastom koncentracije NEFA i BHB (intenzivniji katabolizam), što potvrđuje da intenzivna lipoliza i ketogeneza pokreću niz kompenzatornih procesa u metabolizmu krava. Dobijeni rezultati potvrđuju da NEFA i BHB značajno utiču na vrednost metaboličkih i hematoloških parametara u peripartalnom periodu.

AB  - The effect of interaction between the farm and calving season, as well as the farm and group of lactations on milk performance traits (milk yield, yield of milk fat, 4% fat corrected milk and milk fat content) was analyzed on sample of 2805 Simmental cows with total 9718 standard lactations, housed on dairy farm 'Zlatiborski suvati' on Zlatibor (578 cows and 1968 lactations), dairy farm of the Agricultural holding Dobričevo in Ćuprija (964 cows and 3237 lactations) and dairy animals housed on family farms/households in the region of Kotraža (1263 cows and 4513 lactations). The significance of the effect of interaction between the farm and calving season, as well as interaction between the farm and group of lactations on all milk performance traits was very high (P lt 0.001), which justified their inclusion into models for assessment of the breeding value of dairy cows. The share of variance of interactions in total variance of milk performance traits in standard lactations was low (below and around 4%), which clearly indicated even more systematic factors and their interactions which influence the total variability of observed traits of milk performance of cows in standard lactations.

Značajnost uticaja interakcija farme i sezone telenja, kao i interakcije farme i grupe laktacija na sve osobine mlečnosti standardnih laktacija bila je vrlo visoka (P lt 0.001), što opravdava njihovo uključivanje u modele za ocenu priplodne vrednosti muznih krava. Udeo varijanse interakcija u ukupnoj varijansi osobina mlečnosti standardnih laktacija bio je nizak (ispod i oko 4%), što jasno ukazuje na još veliki broj sistematskih faktora i njihovih interakcija koji utiču na ukupnu varijabilnost posmatranih osobina mlečnosti krava u standardnim laktacijama.

AB  - The present study involves the analysis of the chemical composition of white meat (breast muscles) and dark meat (leg muscles) of broilers in extensive indoor and free range systems. The length of fattening period was 56 days. At 56 days of age, 6 male and 6 female broilers were randomly selected from each rearing system and slaughtered. Cooled carcasses were dissected into primal cuts. Breast and leg muscle (thigh and drumstick) samples were used for chemical analyses. The obtained results suggested that free range rearing system was more favourable than extensive indoor system, as it resulted in a significantly higher protein content and a lower fat content of white and dark chicken meat. Female broilers produced a higher fat content and a somewhat lower protein content as compared to males.

AB  - The effect of systematic environmental factors on gestation length in Simmental cows was evaluated by calculating the least squares mean (LSM) and its error (SELSM), by analysis of variance and by calculating the coefficient of determination (R2). The study involved Simmental cows reared at three locations, including the Zlatiborski Suvati farm (n=578), the Dobričevo farm (n=964) and individual private farms at the Voćar Farming Cooperative in Kotraža (n=1263). The analysis included gestation length in Simmental cows as affected by continuous systematic factors (age at first conception) and discontinuous factors such as farm, calving season, birth season, parity group, calf sex, type of birth and the interaction of these factors. The effect of age at first conception was statistically significant (P lt 0.05). The discontinuous factors had a very high significant (P lt 0.001) effect on gestation length. The coefficient of determination was as low as 0.086 (8.6%), undoubtedly suggesting the small effect of the non-genetic factors on gestation length, given the fact that the trait is biologically determined and that it shows low variability.
AB  - Uticaj sistematskih faktora okoline na dužinu bremenitosti analiziran je izračunavanjem sredine najmanjih kvadrata (LSM) i njegove greške (SELSM), analizom varijanse po primenjenom modelu i izračunavanjem koeficijenta determinacije (R2). Istraživanjem su obuhvaćene krave simentalske rase raspoređene na tri lokaliteta i to farmi Zlatiborski suvati (n=578), farmi Dobričevo (n=964) i individualna gazdinstva na području Zemljoradničke zadruge 'Voćar' iz Kotraže (n=1263). Na dužinu bremenitosti ispitivan je uticaj kontinuelnih sistematskih faktora (uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji) i dikontinuelnih faktora kao što su farma, sezona telenja i rođenja, grupe partusa, pola teladi, tipa rođenja i interakcija pomenutih faktora. Uticaj uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji bio je statistički značajan (P lt 0.05), dok uticaj svih diskontinuelnih uticaja na trajanje bremenitosti bio je vrlo visoko značajan (P lt 0.001). Koeficijent determinacije iznosio je svega 0.086 (8.6%), što nedvosmisleno ukazuje na mali uticaj paragenetskih faktora na ispoljenost dužine bremenitosti obzirom da je ona biološki data i da se odlikuje niskom varijabilnošću.

Contribution to knowledge of health, reproduction, biosecurity and ecological problems in intensive cattle and pig production

AB  - Reproductive parameters: open day period, insemination index, time between calving, were monitoring on a total 12.400 dairy cow dairy cows with milk yield of 8500 liters in 305 days long lactation period. Reproductive disorders observed were abortions, lack of heat, ovarian cysts and ovarial inactivity longer than 60 days after calving and endometrirtis as well. The evaluations of health status of calves, pregnant heifers, and cows were performed during the same period. Most often problems affecting calves were diarrheas and respiratory diseases. Peripartal cows were frequently affected by puerperal paresis, ketosis and abosonmal displacement. Indigestions were present both in lactating and puerperal period. Disease of acropodium were present all a round year. Trhypophiton spp. Infection were seen sporadically in pregnant heifers and actinomycosis was found in older cows after several lactation. Increased production and improved health and reproductive status were achieved after introduction of herd management programme. Good health of pigs is qualification for good reproduction and profitable production. Pig health can be improved in aim to achieve higher production. Disease like neonatal scour, edema disease, esophagogastric ulcer, osteodiustrophia, actinobacilosis, atrophic rhinitis, dysentery and recent times proliferate eneropaties could be competent services. Especially critical periods are sowing, 24-48 hours, after sowing, and period 10-14 days after repulsion. By flexible cooperation of farm owners and veterinarians by appreciation of nowadays knowledge production is possible to improve and serve concept 'from stable to table'. In this concept veterinarians have significant role from economic and ecologic point of view. Biosecurity, welfare, good producers, practice, or hazard analysis, on critical points are very important issues in intensive pig production. Consistent application of biosecurity measures is crucial in swine health protection and production efficiency. In this paper are given certain solutions and routine activities in protection against biological contamination as well as procedures attitude towards different sized herds health protection at home and abroad. Stuff conscience about needs to protect production in general active attitude to real threats and taken measures are key to success in biosecurity plans creation and application on every farm for itself.
AB  - Od reproduktivnih poremećaja ustanovljeni su pobačaji, anestrije, sitni jajnici, ciste, inaktivni jajnici duže od 60 dana postpartum i endometritisi. Uporedo je praćeno i zdravstveno stanje teladi, visoko-steonih junica i krava, dok je u puerperijumu praćeno zdravstveno stanje prvotelkinja i višetelkinja. Dijareja i oboljenja organa za disanje su bili najčešći zdravstveni problemi teladi koji su se ispoljili na kontrolisanim farmama. U puerperijumu kao najčešći zdravstveni problemi ispoljili su se puerperalna pareza, ketoza i dislokacije sirišta. Indigestije kao ozbiljan zdravstveni problem su se javile kod krava u periodu laktacije i puerperijuma. Bolesti akropodijuma (aseptični pododermatitis i panaricijum) pratile su krave veći deo godine. U sporadičnim slučajevima dijagnostikovana je trihoficija kod visoko steonih junica i aktinomikoza kod krava koje su imale veći broj laktacija. Uvođenjem menadžmenta kontrole zdravlja i produktivnosti stada (MKZPS), došlo je do značajnog poboljšanja zdravlja, reporodukcije, a takođe i do povećanja proizvodnje. Dobro zdravlje svinje je uslov dobre reprodukcije, odonosno rentabilne proizvodnje. Zdravlje svinja se može unaprediti u cilju postizanja što veće proizvodnje. Zdravlje zavisi od uslova držanja, nege, ishrane, kontrole zdravlja i zdravstvene zaštite. Bolesti kao što su neonatalni scour, edemska bolest, ezofagogastrični ulkus, osteodistrofije, aktinobaciloza, atrofični rinitis, dizenterija, a u novije vreme proliferativne enteropatije koje mogu ugroziti proizvodnju svinja u intenzivnom odgoju, moguće je primenom profilaktičkih, terapeutskih mera pojačanom kontrolom stručnih službi, držati pod kontrolom. Posebno osetljivi kritični periodi su: samo prašenje, prvih 24-48 sati posle prašenja, od 7-10 dana nakon prašenja i period 10-14 dana po odbijanju prasadi. Fleksibilnom saradnjom vlasnika farmi sa stručnim službama uz poštovanje i sprovođenje stručnih saznanja, te primenom niza biotehničkih mera stavljanjem akcenta na preveniranje bolesti svinja, a u cilju promocije dobrog zdravlja svinja moguće je unaprediti proizvodnju. Biosigurnost, dobrobit, dobra proizvođačka praksa i analiza rizika na kritičnim kontrolnim tačkama su veoma značajni elementi za intenzivnu proizvodnju svinja. Planska primena biosigurnosnih mera presudna je u zaštiti zdravlja svinja i uspeha proizvodnje. U dužem vremenskom periodu na velikim farmama mlečnih rasa krava, svinja i ovaca, praćeno je prisustvo bioloških zagađivača životne sredine (patogene bakterije), kao i hemijskih zagađivača životne sredine (teški metali) i njihov uticaj na dobrobit i zdravstveno stanje životinja. Posebnu opasnost za žive sisteme predstavljaju teški metali koji reagujući sa organskim molekulima menjaju njihovu strukturu i funkciju. U organizam teški metali prodiru preko organa za varenje, organa za disanje i kože. Rezultati naših višegodišnjih istraživanja ukazuju da postoji opasnost od kontaminacije stočne hrane teškim metalima i njihovog deponovanja u organizmu životinja, kao i negativnog delovanja na reproduktivnu sposobnost domaćih životinja. Toksičnost teških metala generalno vodi ka formiranju slobodnih radikala inhibirajući aktivnost enzima antioksidativne odbrane, kao i oksidaciju glutationa i stvaranju malon dialdehida (MDA) kao markera oksidativnog stresa. Njihova toksičnost potiče od tendencije da stvaraju kovalentne veze sa sulfhidrilnim grupama biomakromolekula ili istiskuju određene kofaktore čime inhibiraju aktivnost pojedinih enzima.

The effect of age at first insemination on reproductive, productive, longevity and lifetime production traits in Simmental cows

AB  - The effect of cow age at first insemination on productive and reproductive traits, as well as on longevity and lifetime production ones was examined in the Simmental cows housed at the 'Zlatiborski Suvati' (Mt. Zlatibor Pastures) Farm. The general linear model was used to calculate linear regression coefficients for the effect of age at first insemination on productive, reproductive traits, longevity traits and lifetime production traits The calculated linear regression coefficients suggested that the age at first insemination had a statistically significant effect (P lt 0.05) on milk, milk fat and 4% fat milk production in whole lactations (bxy=1.508, bxy=0.056 and bxy=1.464), a very high significant effect (P lt 0.001) on the age at culling and cow utilisation index ((bxy=1.386 and bxy=-0.020), and no significant effect (P>0.05) on other longevity traits. The age of cows at first insemination did not significantly affect (P>0.05) fertility and lifetime milk and milk-fat production traits. The presented results suggest that cow age at first insemination should be included in the models used in estimating breeding values of dairy cows.
AB  - Uticaj uzrasta krava pri prvoj oplodnji na proizvodne i reproduktivne osobine i osobine dugovečnosti i životne proizvodnje ispitivan je kod krava simentalske rase smeštenih na farmi 'Zlatiborski suvati'. Opštim linearnim modelom izračunati su koeficijenti linearne regresije uticaja uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji na proizvodne i reproduktivne osobine, kao i osobine dugovečnosti i životne proizvodnje Na osnovu izračunatih koeficijenata linearne regresije uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji statistički je značajno uticao (P lt 0.05) na proizvodnju mleka, mlečne mast i 4% masnog mleka u celim laktacijama (bxy=1.508, bxy=0.056 i bxy=1.464), vrlo visoko značajno (P lt 0.001) na uzrast pri izlučenju i indeks iskorišćavanja krava (bxy=1.386 i bxy=-0.020), dok na ostale osobine dugovečnosti nije imao signifikantan uticaj (P>0.05). Uzrast krava pri prvoj oplodnji nije imao značajnog uticaja (P>0.05) na osobine plodnosti i životne proizvodnje mleka i mlečne masti. Na osnovu prikazanih rezultata uzrast krava pri prvoj oplodnji trebalo bi uvrstiti u modele za procenu odgajivačke vrednosti mlečnih krava.
