Effect of non-genetic factors on longevity traits in Simmental cows

AB  - The effects of fixed non-genetic factors (farm, season of birth, year of birth, total number of lactations) and a continuous non-genetic factor (age at first conception) on the expression and variability of longevity traits such as age at culling, length of productive life, days in milk and cow efficiency index were investigated in 2548 Simmental cows in three farming areas. Based on the model used for the analysis of the effects of non-genetic factors, including the environment and cow age at first conception, on the expression and variability of longevity traits, the overall means for age at culling, length of productive life, days in milk and cow efficiency index were 2445.21±17.49 days, 1562.55±17.71 days, 1094.17±12.28 days and 58.68±0.32%, respectively. The effect of farming area, year of birth and lactation group on longevity traits was very significant (P lt 0.01), whereas the effect of season of birth was significant (P lt 0.05). Age at first conception had a highly significant (P lt 0.01) effect on age at culling, length of productive life and cow efficiency index, and no significant effect on days in milk (P>0.05). Based on the model used, the coefficients of determination (R2 ) were very significant (P lt 0.01) for all longevity traits, and ranged from 0.898 for age at culling to 0.959 for days in milk.
AB  - Uticaj fiksnih (farma, sezona i godina rođenja, ukupan broj laktacija) i kontinuelnih (uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji) sistematskih faktora na ispoljenost i varijabilnost osobina dugovečnosti kao što su uzrast pri izlučenju, dužina produktivnog života, ukupan broj muznih dana i indeks iskorišćavanja krava proučavan je na uzorku od 2548 simentalskih krava raspoređenih na tri odgajivačka područja. Na osnovu primenjenog modela za analizu uticaja sistematskih faktora okoline i uzrasta krava pri prvoj oplodnji na ispoljenost i varijabilnost osobina dugovečnosti opšti prosek za uzrast pri izlučenju, dužinu produktivnog života, ukupan broj muznih dana i indeks iskorišćavanja krava iznosio je 2445,21±17,49 dana, 1562,55±17,71 dana, 1094,17±12,28 dana i 58,68±0,32%. AB  - An analysis of the phenotypic exposure and variability of lifetime milk production and milk fat and the content of milk fat of lifetime milk production was performed in 241 cows of Simental race distributed in three breeding areas (Čačak n = 67, Zlatibor n = 123 and Rudno n = 51).
Descriptive statistical analysis found that the average lifetime milk production and milk fat in all three breeding areas was 16081 and 627.2 kg with a variability of about 40%. The average number of lactations during the productive life of cows was 3.73 and ranged from 4.31 in the area of Čačak to 3.45 in the Rudna area. The variability was high and on average it was about 35%, which resulted from a wide variation interval ranging from only 3 to 10 lactation per head. The average content of lifetime productions milk fat was 3.91%. The content of milk fat of lifetime milk production, unlike milk production of milk and milk fat, is more influenced by genetic factors, which is why it is characterized by a very low variability of only 2.30%.
AB  - Analiza fenotipske ispoljenosti i varijabilnosti životne proizvodnje mleka i mlečne masti i sadržaja mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka sprovedena je kod 241 krave simentalske rase raspoređenih na tri odgajivačka područja (Čačak n=67, Zlatibor n=123 i Rudno n=51).
Deskriptivnom statističkom analizom ustanovljeno je da je prosečna životna proizvodnja mleka i mlečne masti na sva tri odgajivačka područja iznosila 16081 i 627,2 kg sa varijabilnošću od oko 40%. Prosečan broj laktacija u toku produktivnog života krava iznosio je 3,73 i kretao se od 4,31 na području Čačka do 3,45 na području Rudna. Varijabilnost je bila visoka i u proseku je iznosila oko 35%, što je posledica širokog intervala varijacije koji se kretao od svega 3 pa do 10 laktacija po grlu. Prosečan sadržaj mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka iznosio je 3,91%. Sadržaj mlečne masti životne proizvodnje mleka, za razliku od životne proizvodnje mleka i mlečne masti,više je pod uticajem genetskih faktora zbog čega se odlikuje dosta niskom varijabilnošću od svega 2,30%.

AB  - Behavior, welfare and protection of cattle are an integral part of organic livestock breeding. Organic production considers animals being cultivated in accordance with their basic needs, supporting most of their normal forms of behavior (inborn and acquired), while respecting the basic principles of well-being and protection. Organic as an alternative to conventional production respects the importance of behavior, welfare and protection of animals and is therefore  in line with natural animals needs.
Being familiar and understanding the behavior of animals is of multiple importance for successful breeding of cattle regardless to applied production system (intensive, extensive or organic).
Animal welfare and protection is a complex biotechnological issue and contains an aspect of science (biology, veterinary medicine, agronomy)and aspects of ethics. The welfare implies the quality of life and harmonious relationship of animal with its environment; as such, it became present in conventional and unavoidable topic in organic production in livestock breeding.
AB  - Ponašanje, dobrobit i zaštita gajenih životinja predstavljaju integralni deo organskog stočarstva. U organskoj proizvodnji životinje se moraju uzgajati u skladu sa njihovim bazičnim potrebama, odnosno na način u kome će ispoljiti najveći deo njihovih normalnih oblika ponašanja (urođenih i stečenih) uz poštovanje osnovnih načela dobrobiti i zaštite. Uvažavajući značaj ponašanja, dobrobiti i zaštite životinja organska proizvodnja, kao alternativa konvencionalnoj, upravo je usklađena sa prirodnim potrebama životinja.
Poznavanje i razumevanje ponašanja životinja od višestrukog je značaja za uspešno gajenje domaćih životinja bez obzira o kom sistemu proizvodnje je reč (intenzivni, ekstenzivni ili organski). 
Dobrobit i zaštita životinja je jedno kompleksno biotehničko pitanje i u sebi sadrži kako aspekt nauke (biologije, veterine, agronomije), tako i aspekte etike. Dobrobit podrazumeva kvalitet života i harmoničan odnos životinje sa okruženjem te je kao takva postala aktuelna u konvencionalnoj i nezaobilazna tema u organskoj proizvodnji u stočarstvu.

AB  - The effect of systematic and continuous environmental factors on 4% fat corrected milk (FCM) yield in 2805 Simmental cows over whole and standard lactations was evaluated using the general linear model. The test systematic or fixed factors included the effect of farm or breeding area, calving season, year of birth, season of birth, lactation group and interactions between year of birth and season of birth, breeding area and calving season, and breeding area and lactation group. The continuous factor analysed was the effect of age at first conception. The effect of breeding area, lactation group and calving season on 4%FCM yield over whole and standard lactations was found to be very highly significant (P lt 0.001). The interactions of fixed i.e. systematic factors involved in the model, including those between year and season of birth, breeding area and calving season, and farm and lactation group had a very highly significant effect (P lt 0.001) on 4% FCM yield over both whole and standard lactations. The age at first conception, as a continuous factor, showed a very highly significant effect (P lt 0.001) on 4% FCM yield over both whole and standard lactations. The model used to correct the 4%FCM yield over whole and standard lactations for the effect of systematic factors was very highly significant (P lt 0.001). The variance of the model accounted for 15.93% and 21.55% of the total variance in 4% FCM yield over whole and standard lactations, respectively. The resulting coefficient of determination (R2) in 4% FCM yield was 0.159 over whole lactations and 0.216 over standard lactations.
AB  - Analiza uticaja sistematskih i kontinuelnih faktora okoline na proizvodnju 4% mast-korigovanog mleka u celim i standardnim laktacijama kod 2805 krava simentalske rase izvršena je primenom opšteg linearnog modela. Od sistematskih odnosno fiksnih faktora analiziran je uticaj farme ili odgajivačkog područja, sezone telenja, godine i sezone rođenja, grupe laktacija i interakcije između godine i sezone rođenja, odgajivačkog područja i sezone telenja i odgajivačkog područja i grupe laktacija. Od kontinuelnih faktora posmatran je uticaj uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji. Uticaj odgajivačkog područja, grupe laktacija i sezone telenja na proizvodnju 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama bila je vrlo visoko značajna (P lt 0.001). Interakcije fiksnih, odnosno sistematskih faktora, uključenih u model, kao što su interakcija između godine i sezone rođenja, zatim odgajivačkog područja i sezone telenja i farme i grupe laktacija, na proizvodnju 4%MKM kako u celim tako i u standardnim laktacijama imale su vrlo visoko značajan uticaj (P lt 0.001). Uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji, kao kontinuelni faktor, statistički vrlo visoko značajno (P lt 0.001) je uticao na proizvodnju 4% mast-korigovanog mleka i u celim i u standardnim laktacijama. Primenjeni model za korekciju proizvodnje 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama na dejstvo sistematskih faktora bio je vrlo visoko značajan (P lt 0.001). Udeo varijanse modela u ukupnoj varijansi kretao se od 15.93% kod proizvodnje 4%MKM u celim laktacijama do 21.55% kod proizvodnje 4%MKM u standardnim laktacijama. Dobijeni koeficijenti determinacije (R2) kod proizvodnje 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama iznosili su 0.159 i 0.216.

The resulting coefficient of determination (R2) in 4% FCM yield was 0.159 over whole lactations and 0.216 over standard lactations., Analiza uticaja sistematskih i kontinuelnih faktora okoline na proizvodnju 4% mast-korigovanog mleka u celim i standardnim laktacijama kod 2805 krava simentalske rase izvršena je primenom opšteg linearnog modela. AB  - In scientific literature, fertility is generally assessed through age at first conception, gestation length, length of service period, calving interval, and calf birth weight.
Determination of the effect of particular non-genetic factors on the above traits is a vital step in cattle breeding and reproduction. 
Length of calving interval is largely governed by the effect of non-genetic factors, viz. fixed effects generally including the effect of breeding region, season of birth, calving season, year of birth, calf sex and their interactions, and continuous or regression effects including age at first conception or age at calving. 
The effect of fixed and continuous non-genetic factors on length of calving period was analysed in 245 Simmental cows (907 calving interval) in three breeding regions, with the effect of season of birth as a fixed factor and cow age at first conception as a continuous factor being highly significant (P  lt  0.01), and that of season of calving being significant (P  lt  0.05). The effect of breeding region, year of birth, parity group or age and calf sex was statistically non-significant (P > 0.05).
AB  - U literaturi plodnost se najčešće posmatra preko uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji, trajanja bremenitosti, servis perioda, intervala između telenja i mase teladi pri rođenju. 
Determinisanje uticaja pojedinih sistematskih faktora na pomenute osobine od velike je važnosti u procesu odgajivanja i reprodukcije goveda.
Dužina intervala između telenja definisana je najvećim delom dejstvom paragenetskih faktora, od kojih kao fiksni uticaji najčešće se pominju uticaj odgajivačkog područja, sezone rođenja i telenja, godine rođenja, pola teladi i njihove interakcije, a od kontinuelnih ili regresijskih uzrast krava pri prvoj oplodnji ili telenju.
Analiza uticaja fiksnih i kontinuiranih negenetskih faktora na dužinu odnosno trajanje intervala između telenja izvršena je kod 245 krava (907 međutelidbenih intervala) simentalske rase raspoređenih na tri odgajivačka područja pri čemu je uticaj sezone rođenja kao fiksnog i uzrasta krava pri prvoj oplodnji kao kontinuiranog faktora bio visoko značajan (P lt 0.01) dok je uticaj sezone telenja na dužinu međutelidbenog intervala bio značajan.(P lt 0.05). Uticaj  odgajivačkog područja, godine rođenja, grupe partusa odnosno starosti kao i pola teladi nije bio statistički značajan (P>0.05).

AB  - This article presents the economic analysis of two farms A and B for the period 2013-2015. Based on the data for the three years, the income and value of realized production, variable costs and gross margin were calculated, and values were measured per dairy cow for easier comparison. Efficiency in milk production largely depends on the cost of feeding dairy cows, as well on the selling price of milk. These parameters changed in the research period on both farms and significantly impacted the values of realized gross margin.
AB  - U radu je data ekonomska analiza dva poljoprivredna gazdinstva A i B za period od 2013-2015. godine. Na osnovu praćenih podataka za tri godine izračunati su prihodi i vrednosti ostvarene proizvodnje, varijabilni troškovi i bruto marža, a radi lakše komparacije iskazani su rezultati po muznom grlu. Efikasnost u proizvodnji mleka u velikoj meri zavisi od troškova ishrane muznih krava, kao i prodajne cene mleka, ovi parametri su bili promenljivi u posmatranom periodu na oba gazdinstva i značajno su uticali na ostvarene vrednosti bruto marže.

Birth season and calving season had no statistically significant effect (P> 0.05) on the production of 4% FCM, either in whole or in standard lactations. The interaction between birth season, calving season and year of birth was variable and ranged from insignificant to very significant.
Age at first conception produced a significant (P lt 0.05) and non-significant (P>0.05) effect on 4% FCM yield in complete and standard (bxy=0.693ns) lactations, respectively.
AB  - Uticaj paragenetskih faktora na proizvodnju 4%MKM u celim i standardnim laktacijama ispitivan je na uzorku od 241 krave simentalske rase.
Na ispoljenost ove osobine ispitivan je uticaj farme, broja laktacija, sezone rođenja i telenja, njihovih interakcija i uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji.

AB  - The effect of systematic and continuous environmental factors on milk performance traits over standard lactations in 2805 Simmental cows was evaluated using the general linear model. The systematic factors included the effect of farm or breeding area, calving season, year of birth, season of birth, lactation group and their interactions. The continuous factor analysed was the effect of age at first conception. The effect of farm, lactation group and calving season on standard lactation milk performance was found to be highly significant (P lt 0.01), excepting the effect of calving season on milk fat percent in standard lactations which showed statistical significance (P lt 0.05). The interactions between year and season of birth, farm and calving season, and farm and lactation group had a highly significant effect (P lt 0.01) on all performance traits studied. Age at first conception, as a continuous factor, had a highly significant effect (P lt 0.01) on milk yield and milk fat percent, and a non-significant effect on milk fat yield. The model used to correct the performance traits over standard lactations for the effect of systematic factors was highly significant (P lt 0.01). The variance of the model accounted for 20.06 and 37.31% of the total variance of milk fat yield and milk fat percent, respectively. The resulting coefficients of determination (R-2) ranged from 0.20 for milk fat yield to 0.37 for milk fat percent.

AB  - This study was conducted to evaluate the phenotypic expression and variability of lifetime performance traits (lifetime yields of milk, fat and 4%FCM, milk fat content, milk yield per milking day, milk yield per day of productive life and milk yield per day of life) and the effect of systematic factors (breeding region, total lactation number, year of birth and season of birth) and age at first conception on the above traits in 2548 Simmental cows. The test Simmental cows achieved the following: lifetime yields of milk, fat and 4%FCM - 14604, 554.8 and 14157 kg, respectively, milk fat content of lifetime milk yield - 3.81%, milk yield per milking day - 12.79, milk yield per day of productive life - 9.31 and milk yield per day of life - 5.46 kg. The marked variability of the traits, along with a certain percent of high-producing cows, enables further success in their selection.
AB  - Ispitivanje fenotipske ispoljenosti i varijabilnosti osobina životne proizvodnje (životna proizvodnja mleka, mlečne masti i 4%MKM, sadržaj mlečne masti kao i proizvodnja mleka po muznom produktivnom i životnom danu) izvršeno je na uzorku od 2548 krava simentalske rase. AB  - Agriculture and food processing are most important branches of the economy in Republic of Serbia and account for 17% of gross domestic product (10.6% agricultural production and 6.4% food processing). In agriculture, 70% of production comes from plants and 30% from livestock. Annual consumption per capita in Serbia is 56 l milk and 38 kg meat products (18 kg of poultry, 16 kg of pork and 4 kg of beef). To obtain a more precise description of the dairy and beef sectors, as well as data for improving zoo-technical and farm conditions for ruminant production, a survey was conducted amongst farmers. A total of 1,180 questionnaires were mailed to farmers whose farms are registered for cattle, sheep, goat or mixed farming production. The questionnaire was divided into 6 sections: (1) general information about the farm; (2) technical and structural information; (3) education and advisory services; (4) perspectives for future activities; (5) sanitary and veterinary information; and (6) zoo-technical aspects. For more than 70% of farmers livestock production is the only source of income. One of the main structural problems which impede efficient development of ruminant production is the small scale of operation. A small property, with a small arable area results in a smaller number of animals being kept. About 37% of farmers have 10 or fewer cows on their farms, less than 20% of farmers have more than 20 sheep, and goat keeping is the least represented sector. Farmers and breeders associations are very fragmented and are not able to support their members in an effective way. About 75% of farmers expressed a positive expectation about future membership of Serbia in the EU, although these expectations are not clearly defined.

AB  - In this study a relationship between the milk yield and following reproduction traits: number of inseminations per conception [AIS], service period [SP], age at calving [AC], calving interval [CI] and birth weight [BW] is studied. The research involved dairy cows of European type of Black and White cattle which are being intensively improved by the genes of Holstein - Friesian breed. Mean values of general average for number of inseminations per conception, service period, age at calving, calving interval and birth weight are: 2.00; 98.78; 1088.08; 376.70 and 36.40, respectively. In general, the estimated phenotypic correlations (rp) between the milk yield over standard lactations and fertility traits were positive and unfavorable, and ranged from 0.24 for the relationship between milk yield and birth weight to 0.70 for relationship between milk yield and age at calving.
AB  - U radu je ispitivan odnos između prinosa mleka i sledećih osobina plodnosti: indeks osemenjavanja [IO], servis period [SP], uzrast pri teljenju [UT], međutelidbeni interval [MI] i masa teladi pri rođenju [MTR]. Ispitivanja su se odnosila na mlečne krave evropskog tipa crno-belih goveda koje se intenzivno oplemenjuju genima holštajn-frizijske rase. Za analizu je korišćen Metod najmanjih kvadrata - LSMLMW (HARVEY, 1990), fiksni model. Srednje vrednosti opšteg proseka za indeks osemenjavanja, servis period, uzrast pri teljenju, međutelidbeni interval i masu teladi pri rođenju su: 2,00; 98,78; 1088,08 ; 376,70 i 36,40, respektivno. AB  - In order to have a more precise description of dairy farm structure and characteristics of dairy production systems, as well as to assess possibilities for improving production and farming conditions in which milk production is organized, a survey based research was directed at a select group of farms across the Serbia. 1180 questionnaires have been mailed to farmers whose farms are registered for either cattle or mixed production. Questionnaire was divided into 6 sections: general information of the farm, agricultural and structural information, zootechnical information, sanitary and veterinarian information, information about education and extension, and information on the perspectives of future farming. About 59% of analyzed farms have size up to 20 ha, with average size of about 10 ha. On the other hand, about 55% farms raises up to 15 cows and heifers with average of 6 heads per farm, while 3% of farms have more than 200 cows and heifers. Over 86% of surveyed farmers intend to expand existing farm production, mainly by increasing the number of animals, stricter selection and improvement of the conditions for feeding, housing, care and milking. About 75% of farmers have expressed a positive expectation from future membership of Serbia in EU, although these expectations are not clearly defined.
AB  - U cilju preciznijeg opisa strukture mlečnih farmi i karakteristika sistema za proizvodnju mleka, kao i procene mogućnosti za unapređenje proizvodnje i farmskih uslova u kojima se proizvodnja mleka organizuje, sprovedena je anketa među poljoprivrednim proizvođačima (farmerima) širom Srbije. Ukupno je poslato 1180 anketa farmerima čije su farme registrovane za govedarsku ili mešovitu proizvodnju. Upitnik koji je poslat farmerima sastojao se iz 6 delova i obuhvatao je opšte informacije o farmi, poljoprivredne i strukturne informacije, zootehničke informacije, sanitarne i veterinarske aspekte proizvodnje, edukaciju i savetodavstvo, kao i perspektive budućeg poslovanja. Oko 59% analiziranih farmi ima veličinu do 20ha, sa prosekom od oko 10ha. Sa druge strane, na oko 55% farmi odgaja se do 15 krava i junica, sa prosekom od 6 grla po farmi. Preko 86% anketiranih farmera namerava da proširi postojeću proizvodnju i to uglavnom povećanjem broja životinja, strožijom selekcijom roditeljskih parova, kao i unapređenjem uslova ishrane, smeštaja i nege. Oko 75% anketiranih farmera izrazilo je pozitivna očekivanja od budućeg članstva Srbije u EU, iako ta očekivanja nisu uvek jasna ili precizno definisana.

AB  - It is of economic interest for breeders that dairy cattle should be long enough in production, without compromising their health or reproductive performance. In modern dairy cattle breeding programs, in addition to traits of which dairy production directly depends on, emphasis is also placed on those traits that contribute to improving production efficiency, primarily by reducing production cost. These traits are known as functional traits, among which is longevity of cows one of the most important. Longevity indicates the time period during which the cow remains in the herd before being culled. The aim of this paper is to present the most important characteristics of longevity of cows as a very important functional traits of dairy cattle.
AB  - Da bi jedno grlo u proizvodnji mleka bilo od ekonomskog interesa za odgajivača ono mora dovoljno dugo da bude u proizvodnji bez narušavanja zdravstvenih ili reproduktivnih sposobnosti. U modernim odgajivačkim programima, pored osobina od kojih direktno zavisi proizvodnja mleka, akcenat se stavlja i na one osobine koje doprinose unapređenju efikasnosti proizvodnje, pre svega, smanjivanjem troškova. U te osobine ubrajaju se i funkcionalne osobine, među kojima je jedna od najznačajnijih dugovečnost krava koja ukazuje na vremenski period tokom koga grlo ostaje u zapatu pre nego što se izluči. Cilj ovog rada je da se prikažu najznačajnije karakteristike dugovečnosti kao izuzetno važne funkcionalne osobine krava.

AB  - The effect of interaction between the farm and calving season, as well as the farm and group of lactations on milk performance traits (milk yield, yield of milk fat, 4% fat corrected milk and milk fat content) was analyzed on sample of 2805 Simmental cows with total 9718 standard lactations, housed on dairy farm 'Zlatiborski suvati' on Zlatibor (578 cows and 1968 lactations), dairy farm of the Agricultural holding Dobričevo in Ćuprija (964 cows and 3237 lactations) and dairy animals housed on family farms/households in the region of Kotraža (1263 cows and 4513 lactations). The significance of the effect of interaction between the farm and calving season, as well as interaction between the farm and group of lactations on all milk performance traits was very high (P lt 0.001), which justified their inclusion into models for assessment of the breeding value of dairy cows. The share of variance of interactions in total variance of milk performance traits in standard lactations was low (below and around 4%), which clearly indicated even more systematic factors and their interactions which influence the total variability of observed traits of milk performance of cows in standard lactations.
AB  - Uticaj interakcije farme i sezone telenja kao i farme i grupe laktacija na osobine mlečnosti (proizvodnja mleka, mlečne masti, 4% mast-korigovanog mleka i sadržaj mlečne masti) analizirano je kod 2805 krava simentalske rase sa ukupno 9718 standardnih laktacija koje su bile smeštene na farmi muznih krava 'Zlatiborski suvati' na Zlatiboru (578 krava i 1968 laktacija), farmi muznih krava na Poljoprivrednom dobru Dobričevo u Ćupriji (964 krava i 3237 laktacija) i području Kotraže na individualnim gazdinstvima (1263 krava i 4513 laktacija). Značajnost uticaja interakcija farme i sezone telenja, kao i interakcije farme i grupe laktacija na sve osobine mlečnosti standardnih laktacija bila je vrlo visoka (P lt 0.001), što opravdava njihovo uključivanje u modele za ocenu priplodne vrednosti muznih krava. Udeo varijanse interakcija u ukupnoj varijansi osobina mlečnosti standardnih laktacija bio je nizak (ispod i oko 4%), što jasno ukazuje na još veliki broj sistematskih faktora i njihovih interakcija koji utiču na ukupnu varijabilnost posmatranih osobina mlečnosti krava u standardnim laktacijama.

Regression analysis of milk production traits in Simmental cows

AB  - The relationship between milk production traits over whole lactations was evaluated across three generations of Simmental cows, i.e. between daughters, dams and grand dams, by a phenotypic regression analysis with whole lactation traits in the daughter generation being used as the dependent variables (x1), and those in the dam and grand dam generations being used as the independent variables (x2 and x3). The results were obtained from a sample of 1170 daughters and as many dams and grand dams. The significance of the partial regression coefficients b2 and b3 was separately evaluated by a t-test. An analysis of variance was used to estimate the significance of the simultaneous effect of the production traits of dams and grand dams on the milk production achieved in the daughter generation. The calculated value of the partial regression coefficients for the whole lactation production traits across three generations (grand dams, dams and daughters) and their statistical significances determined by the t and F tests, as well as the regression equations used, suggested that the effect of the grand dam generation on the milk production traits in granddaughters was substantially lower than the effect of dams. The calculated partial regression coefficients (b2 and b3) were positive and statistically very significant (P lt 0.01), excepting the regression coefficients b3 for lactation length and b2 for milk fat content that were not statistically significant (P>0.05). A very significant change (P lt 0.01) was observed in all production traits in the daughter generation as simultaneously affected by the traits in the dam and grand dam generations.
AB  - Povezanost osobina mlečnosti u punim laktacijama analizirana je između tri generacije krava simentalske rase, odnosno između kćerki, majki i baba, fenotipskom regresionom analizom u uslovima kada su osobine punih laktacija u generaciji kćerki posmatrane kao zavisno (x1), a osobine punih laktacija u generaciji majki i baba kao nezavisno promenljive (x2 i x3). Rezultati su dobijeni na uzorku od po 1170 kćerki, majki i baba. Pojedinačno ispitivanje značajnosti delimičnih regresionih koeficijenata b2 i b3 izvršeno je t-testom, a analizom značajnosti istovremenog uticaja proizvodnih osobina majki i baba na ostvarenu proizvodnju kod kćerki izvršena je metodom analize varijanse. Na osnovu izračunate vrednosti delimičnih regresionih koeficijenata za proizvodne osobine celih laktacija kroz tri generacije (babe, majke i kćerke) i njihove statističke značajnosti određene t i F testom, kao i jednačina regresije konstatovano je da je uticaj generacije baba na proizvodnju unuka znatno manji u odnosu na uticaj kojeg imaju majke. Svi izračunati delimični koeficijenti regresije (b2 i b3) bili su pozitivni i statistički vrlo značajni (P lt 0.01), izuzimajući koeficijent regresije b3 kod trajanja laktacije i b2 kod sadržaja mlečne masti koji nisu bili statistički značajni (P>0.05). Značajnost promena svih posmatranih proizvodnih osobina u generaciji kćerki pri istovremenom uticaju tih osobina iz generacije majki i baba bila je vrlo visoka (P lt 0.01).

Pojedinačno ispitivanje značajnosti delimičnih regresionih koeficijenata b2 i b3 izvršeno je t-testom, a analizom značajnosti istovremenog uticaja proizvodnih osobina majki i baba na ostvarenu proizvodnju kod kćerki izvršena je metodom analize varijanse. Na osnovu izračunate vrednosti delimičnih regresionih koeficijenata za proizvodne osobine celih laktacija kroz tri generacije (babe, majke i kćerke) i njihove statističke značajnosti određene t i F testom, kao i jednačina regresije konstatovano je da je uticaj generacije baba na proizvodnju unuka znatno manji u odnosu na uticaj kojeg imaju majke. Svi izračunati delimični koeficijenti regresije (b2 i b3) bili su pozitivni i statistički vrlo značajni (P lt 0.01), izuzimajući koeficijent regresije b3 kod trajanja laktacije i b2 kod sadržaja mlečne masti koji nisu bili statistički značajni (P>0.05). Značajnost promena svih posmatranih proizvodnih osobina u generaciji kćerki pri istovremenom uticaju tih osobina iz generacije majki i baba bila je vrlo visoka (P lt 0.01).",

AB  - The effect of systematic environmental factors on gestation length in Simmental cows was evaluated by calculating the least squares mean (LSM) and its error (SELSM), by analysis of variance and by calculating the coefficient of determination (R2). The study involved Simmental cows reared at three locations, including the Zlatiborski Suvati farm (n=578), the Dobričevo farm (n=964) and individual private farms at the Voćar Farming Cooperative in Kotraža (n=1263). The analysis included gestation length in Simmental cows as affected by continuous systematic factors (age at first conception) and discontinuous factors such as farm, calving season, birth season, parity group, calf sex, type of birth and the interaction of these factors. The effect of age at first conception was statistically significant (P lt 0.05). The discontinuous factors had a very high significant (P lt 0.001) effect on gestation length. The coefficient of determination was as low as 0.086 (8.6%), undoubtedly suggesting the small effect of the non-genetic factors on gestation length, given the fact that the trait is biologically determined and that it shows low variability.
AB  - Uticaj sistematskih faktora okoline na dužinu bremenitosti analiziran je izračunavanjem sredine najmanjih kvadrata (LSM) i njegove greške (SELSM), analizom varijanse po primenjenom modelu i izračunavanjem koeficijenta determinacije (R2). Istraživanjem su obuhvaćene krave simentalske rase raspoređene na tri lokaliteta i to farmi Zlatiborski suvati (n=578), farmi Dobričevo (n=964) i individualna gazdinstva na području Zemljoradničke zadruge 'Voćar' iz Kotraže (n=1263). Na dužinu bremenitosti ispitivan je uticaj kontinuelnih sistematskih faktora (uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji) i dikontinuelnih faktora kao što su farma, sezona telenja i rođenja, grupe partusa, pola teladi, tipa rođenja i interakcija pomenutih faktora. Uticaj uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji bio je statistički značajan (P lt 0.05), dok uticaj svih diskontinuelnih uticaja na trajanje bremenitosti bio je vrlo visoko značajan (P lt 0.001). Koeficijent determinacije iznosio je svega 0.086 (8.6%), što nedvosmisleno ukazuje na mali uticaj paragenetskih faktora na ispoljenost dužine bremenitosti obzirom da je ona biološki data i da se odlikuje niskom varijabilnošću.

AB  - Results of the effect of direct and indirect selection of quantitative traits of fertility and milk performance of first calving cows of Simmental breed in Serbia are presented. Investigation of genetic parameters of heritability (additive genetic variance in total phenotypic variability of quantitative traits) and analysis of milk traits was done in four breeding regions and several tenths of farms where 3980 daughters of 32 sires were housed and reared. Results of analysis were obtained by application of mathematical-statistical data analysis, using mixed models (Harvey, 1990). Mathematical-statistical analysis of data was done using linear methods, i.e. method of least squares (LS method). Based on obtained results it was established that bulls-sires and several paragenetic factors caused no significant variation of fertility traits in relation to general average (P lt 0.01). Quantitative milk traits of first calving cows, under the influence of breeding region, had significantly higher deviation from the general average (**P lt 0.01). Significant deviations (*P lt 0.05) were caused by year of calving on milk yield and yield of milk fat (4765.0 kg and milk fat 3.86%). Established heritability coefficients for reproductive traits were following: .102, .051 and .088, and milk traits .297, .207 and .197).
AB  - Najbrojnija populacija goveda u Republici Srbiji pripada Simentalskoj rasi (oko 500.000 plotkinja ili više od 80%). Ako se imaju u vidu tekuće promene u genetskom poboljšanju goveda i veoma velikom napretku u tehnologijama reprodukcije, očigledno da će se sadašnji programi morati menjati i poboljšavati. S obzirom na to, da je ekonomski značaj reproduktivnih i osobina mlečnosti visok neophodno je poznavanje pojedinih faktora koji utiču na plodnost i mlečnost krava, a oni se dele na genetske i paragenetske. Uspeh u poboljšanju plodnosti genetskim putem je dosta ograničen niskim vrednostima heritabiliteta, što ne znači da geni ne deluju na ovu osobinu, već da je vrednost aditivne genetske varijacije mala. Naslednost, odnosno proučavanje aditivne genetske varijanse u ukupnoj fenotipskoj varijabilnosti kvantitativnih osobina, predstavlja deo najvažjnijih istraživanja sa gledišta stvaranja populacije goveda visokih genetskih potencijala i odabiranja roditeljskih parova budućih generacija. Vrednosti koeficijenata naslednosti za osobine plodnosti su pod uticajem različitih faktora, kao što su: genotip životinje, uzrast, intenzitet selekcije, metod odgajivanja, ambijentalni uslovi i dr. Cilj ovih istraživanja je bio da se ispitaju važniji genetski parametri plodnosti i mlečnosti, odnosno naslednosti ovih kvantitativnih osobina radi izbora pravca i daljeg oplemenjivanja ove populacije. Prikupljeni podaci za analizu potiču iz četiri regiona - odgajivačka područja u Srbiji. Istraživanja su uključila 3980 krava - prvotelki simentalske rase, kćeri 32 bika - oca, koje su oteljene u periodu od šest godina (2002-2007). Sva ispitivana grla (krave - prvotelke) su držana vezano i slobodno u posedu privatnih farmera (od 8 do 65 grla po farmi) i bila su standardno hranjena, a razlike su bile u količini, odnosu i kvalitetu kabaste i koncentrovane hrane (područje gajenja). Matematičko-statistička analiza podataka obavljena je primenom mešovitog modela najmanjih kvadrata (LS-Least Squares) primenom programa najmanjih kvadrata (LSMLMW), Harvey, (1990). Različiti broj individua u pojedinim klasama kao i postojanje više uticaja (područje, godina telenja, sezona telenja, bikovi očevi) koji su delovali na ispoljavanje ispitivanih osobina, uslovio je analizu u kojoj je korišćen metod najmanjih kvadrata. Bikovi-očevi i niz paragenetskih uticaja nisu prouzrokovali značajno variranje osobina plodnosti u odnosu na opšti prosek (P lt 0.01). Kvantitativne osobine mlečnosti krava prvotelki su pod uticajem odgajivačkog područja imale visoko značajno odstupanje od opšteg proseka (**P lt 0.01). Značajna odstupanja (P lt 0.05) je izazvala godina telenja na prinos mleka i mlečne masti. Godišnje doba početka laktacije krava obuhvaćenih našim istraživanjem pokazuje značajna odstupanja prinosa mleka i mlečne masti u odnosu na opšti prosek (P lt 0.01). Tako su junice oteljene u februaru , martu i aprilu imale značajno i visoko značajno više mleka i mlečne masti u odnosu na one koje su se otelile u drugim mesecima u godini. Ustanovljeni koeficijenti heritabiliteta reproduktivnih svojstava koji su dobijeni našim istraživanjem su imali niske vrednosti i bili su nižeg nivoa u odnosu na one koje su dobili Petrović et al. (1998, 2001, 2006). Rezultati naslednosti osobina mlečnosti dobijeni našim istraživanjima su bili viši u odnosu na koeficijente za iste osobine koje su objavili Panić and Vidović (2006), niži u odnosu na rezultate istraživanja Petrović et al. (1999) and Kapš and Špehar (2004) a u saglasnosti sa koeficijentima heritabiliteta koje su u turskoj populaciji simentalskih goveda ustanovili Ulek and Tekun (2006).

AB  - Results of the effect of direct and indirect selection on quantitative properties of milk production of first calving Simmental cows in Serbia, are presented in the paper. Analysis of quantitative phenotypic parameters was carried out in four breeding regions and certain number of smaller farms where 1319 daughters of 13 bull sires were reared. Results of the analysis were obtained by application of mathematical-statistical data analysis, using mixed models (Harvey, 1990). Mathematical-statistical analysis of data was carried out using linear methods with fixed effect, through method of least squares (LS method), and for evaluation of bull breeding value mixed model of random bull sire effect was used (BLUP method). Based on obtained results it was established that analyzed breeding region has statistically highly significantly (**P lt 0.01.) caused deviations of production phenotypes from general average. Season and year of calving (*P lt 0.05.) have caused significant variations of production properties. .
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati efekata direktne i indirektne selekcije kvantitativnih svojstava mlečnosti krava-prvotelki simentalske rase goveda u Srbiji. Analiza kvanitativnih fenotipskih parametara je obavljena u četiri odgajivačka područja i na više desetina manjih farmi na kojima je držano i gajeno 1319 kćeri, 13 bikova-očeva. Rezultati analize su dobijeni primenom matematičko-statističke analize podataka, korišćenjem mešovitih modela (Harvey, 1990). Matematičko-statistička analiza podataka je obavljena korišćenjem linearnih metoda sa fiksnim uticajem, preko metoda najmanjih kvadrata (LS metod) a za ocenu priplodne vrednosti bikova korišćen je mešoviti model slučajnog uticaja oca (BLUP metod).Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata ustanovljeno je da je odgajivačko područje statistički analizirano visoko značajno (**P lt 0.01.) prouzrokovalo odstupanja proizvodnih fenotipova od opšteg proseka. Sezona telenja i godina (*P lt 0.05.) su prouzrokovali značajna variranja proizvodnih osobina. Rezultati odstupanja osobina proizvodnosti pod uticajem godine telenja ukazuju na pozitivne tendencije u povećanju prinosa mleka . Značajna odstupanja (P lt 0.05) je izazvala godina telenja i na prinos mleka i mlečne masti. Godišnje doba početka laktacije krava obuhvaćenih našim istraživanjem pokazuje visokoznačajna odstupanja prinosa mleka i mlečne masti u odnosu na opšti prosek (P lt 0.01). Tako su junice oteljene u februaru , martu i aprilu imale značajno i visoko značajno više mleka i mlečne masti u odnosu na one koje su se otelile u drugim mesecima u godini. Interakcija odgajivačkog područja i sezone telenja je prouzrokovala visoko značajna odstupanja prinosa mleka (**P lt 0.01), međutim nije bilo statističkih značajnih variranja sadržaja mlečne masti. Prema analizi negativnih i pozitivnih BLUP rešenja (priplodne vrednosti) za prinos 4%MKM formirana je ocena ranga prema kojoj je bik broj 13. najbolje ocenjen, a bik-otac br.9 bio je rangiran na poslednje mesto. Krave - prvotelke obuhvaćene našim istraživanjem proizvele su 4868 kg mleka sa 183.03 kg mlečne masti , odnosno 3.76% mle. mast i 4693kg 4%MKM. Rezultati dobijeni nasim istraživanjima su značajno viši u odnosu na rezultate o mlečnosti iste rase (Lazarevic R. i sar., 1986). viši od onih koje je ustanovio Petrovic M.M. i sar. (1997 i 2006). Dobijeni rezultati su u saglasnosti sa onima koje su dobili Petrović M.D. i sar. (2005) i Pantelić i sar.(2008). Naši rezultati su pokazali da postoji pozitivan genetski trend u smislu kvantitaivnih osobina mlečnosti domaćih somentalskih krava. Poredeći naše rezultate i rezultate napred navedenih autora može se zaključiti da se prinos mleka simentalskih krava (matični zapat) u Srbiji godišnje uvećava za najmanje 100 kg mleka po kravi (zavisno od genetike, područja, odnosno tehnologija ishrane i držanja).

Analysis of quantitative phenotypic parameters was carried out in four breeding regions and certain number of smaller farms where 1319 daughters of 13 bull sires were reared. AB  - The effect of systematic factors on production traits over complete lactations was investigated in 2,805 Simmental cows born in 1982 and onwards. The cows were housed at three farms in different areas: at the Zlatiborski Suvati dairy farm, Zlatibor, at the Dobricevo Agricultural Farm, Cuprija and at private farms in the region of Kotraze. AB  - Ispitivanje uticaja sistematskih faktora na ispoljenost proizvodnih osobina celih laktacija obavljeno je kod 2805 krava simentalske rase rođenih od 1982. godine pa na dalje. Krave su smeštene na tri farme, odnosno područja: farmi muznih krava 'Zlatiborski suvati' na Zlatiboru, Poljoprivrednom dobru Dobričevo u Ćupriji i području Kotraže na individualnim gazdinstvima. Sistematski faktori (farma, sezona telenja, grupe laktacija, grupa (godina x sezona rođenja), interakcije farma x sezona telenja i farma x grupe laktacija) i uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji statistički su vrlo visoko značajano (P lt 0.001) uticali na sve osobine punih laktacija, izuzimajući uticaj sezone telenja na trajanje punih laktacija (P lt 0.05) i sadržaj mlečne masti (P>0.05). The general linear model was used to calculate linear regression coefficients for the effect of age at first insemination on productive, reproductive traits, longevity traits and lifetime production traits The calculated linear regression coefficients suggested that the age at first insemination had a statistically significant effect (P lt 0.05) on milk, milk fat and 4% fat milk production in whole lactations (bxy=1.508, bxy=0.056 and bxy=1.464), a very high significant effect (P lt 0.001) on the age at culling and cow utilisation index ((bxy=1.386 and bxy=-0.020), and no significant effect (P>0.05) on other longevity traits. The age of cows at first insemination did not significantly affect (P>0.05) fertility and lifetime milk and milk-fat production traits. The presented results suggest that cow age at first insemination should be included in the models used in estimating breeding values of dairy cows.
AB  - Uticaj uzrasta krava pri prvoj oplodnji na proizvodne i reproduktivne osobine i osobine dugovečnosti i životne proizvodnje ispitivan je kod krava simentalske rase smeštenih na farmi 'Zlatiborski suvati'. The effect of paragenetic factors on reproductive traits of simmental cows

AB  - The examination was made on the effect of systematic factors (parturition group, calving season, birth type, calf gender, and birth type-calf gender interaction) and age at first conception on the expression of reproductive traits (gestation length, service period, fertility intensity and calf birth weight) in 143 Simmental cows. The overall mean (μ) for gestation length, service period, intercalving period and calf birth weight was 284.14 days, 153.82 days, 416.92 days and 35.40 kg, respectively. The parturition group effect on all fertility traits was highly significant (P lt 0.01). The calving season statistically significantly (P lt 0.05) affected the intercalving period and calf birth weight. Birth type induced very significantly longer gestation (P lt 0.01) and higher calf birth weight in singles (P lt 0.01) and significantly longer service period in twins (P lt 0.05). Calf gender had a very significant effect (P lt 0.01) only on calf birth weight, and the interaction between birth type and calf gender significantly affected gestation duration only (P lt 0.05). The regression effect of age at first conception on all fertility traits was not significant (P>0.05).
AB  - Na ispoljenost reproduktivnih osobina (dužina bremenitosti, servis period, intenzitet plodnosti i masa teladi pri rođenju) kod 143 krave simentalske rase, ispitivan je uticaj sistematskih faktora (grupe partusa, sezone telenja, tip rođenja, pol teladi i interakcija tipa rođenja i pola teladi) i uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji. Opšti prosek (μ) za dužinu bremenitosti iznosio je 284.14 dana, servis period 153.82 dana, međutelidbeni interval 416.92 i masu teladi pri rođenju 35.40 kg. Uticaj grupe partusa na sve osobine plodnosti bio je visoko značajan (P lt 0.01). Sezona telenja statistički značajno (P lt 0.05) je uticala na međutelidbeni interval i masu teladi pri rođenju. Tip rođenja uslovio je vrlo značajno dužu bremenitost (P lt 0.01) i veću masu teladi pri rođenju kod jedinaca (P lt 0.01) i značajno duži servis period kod blizanaca (P lt 0.05). Pol teladi vrlo značajno je uticao (P lt 0.01) samo na masu teladi pri rođenju, dok je interakcija tipa rođenja i pola teladi značajno uticala samo na trajanje bremenitosti (P lt 0.05). Regresijski uticaj uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji na sve osobine plodnosti nije bio signifikantan (P>0.05).

AB  - Results of production traits obtained from first calving cows and evaluation of the breeding value of bull sires of Simmental breed in Serbia. Data was analyzed using the method of least squares and for evaluation of bulls' breeding value mixed model of random sire effect (BLUP method). Based on obtained results it was established in statistical analysis that breeding region had highly significantly affected (P lt 0.01) the deviation of production traits from the general average. Considerable deviation from the general average was caused by the year and season of calving (P lt 0.05), and interaction of breeding region and calving season contributed to high variation in yield of milk and milk fat (P lt 0.01).
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati koji se odnose na proizvodne osobine krava-prvotelki i ocena priplodne vrednosti bikova - očeva simentalske rase goveda u Srbiji. Podaci su analizirani metodom najmanjih kvadrata, a za ocenu priplodne vrednosti bikova korišćen je mešoviti model slučajnog uticaja oca (BLUP metod). Na osnovu rezultata dobijenih u statističkoj analizi ustanovljeno je da je odgajivačko područje visoko značajno (P lt 0.01) prouzrokovalo odstupanja proizvodnih osobina od opšteg proseka. Sistematski faktori okoline, odgajivačko područja, godina i sezona telenja su prouzrokovali visoko značajno (P lt 0,01) i značajno (P lt 0,05) odstupanje prinosa mleka i mlečne masti krava - prvotelki, a tako dobijeni rezultati ukazuju na opravdanost korišćenja linearnih metoda odnosno korekcije sistematskih faktora okoline. Korišćenjem mešovitog modela, slučajnog uticaja bika - oca na prinos mleka kćeri, kao i formiranjem ranga bikova na osnovu priplodne vrednosti, dobijeni su rezultati koji pokazuju da je bik pod rednim brojem 9 superioran u odnosu na ostale. Bik - otac broj 23 ima najnižu priplodnu vrednost za osobine prinosa mleka i mlečne masti. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata može se ustanoviti da BLUP metod daje objektivnu ocenu priplodne vrednosti. Ovaj metod uvažava veliki broj sistematskih faktora okoline, uticaj različitog genetskog nivoa bikova i genetski trend te stoga doprinosi objektivnoj oceni priplodne vrednosti bikova.

AB  - The effect of paragenetic factors on longevity traits was investigated in Simmental cows housed at the "Zlatiborski Suvati" farm. The effect of the lactation number, the calving season and the age at first insemination on longevity traits such as the age at culling, the length of productive life the total number of milking days and the utilization index was examined. The general average (m), according to the model, for the age at culling, the length of productive life, the total number of milking days and the utilization index was 3496.31 days, 2637.14 days, 2000.43 days and 72.42 % respectively. The effect of the total number of lactations on all the longevity traits was very highly significant (P lt 0.001), whereas the calving season statistically very significantly affected only the age at culling (P lt 0.01). The age at first insemination had a very highly significant effect on the age at culling and the cow utilization index (P lt 0.001).

Na ispoljenost osobina dugovečnosti, kao što su uzrast pri izlučenju, dužina produktivnog života ukupan broj muznih dana i indeks iskorišćavanja, ispitivan je uticaj broja laktacija, sezone telenja i uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji. Opšti prosek (m), po modelu, za uzrast pri izlučenju iznosio je 3496.31 dan, dužinu produktivnog života 2637.14 dana, ukupan broj muznih dana 2000.43 i indeks iskorišćavanja 72.42%. AB  - Investigations are based on use of natural potentials on the wide region of Sjenica-Pešter highlands. Certain parameters on selected locations are recorded (soil, vegetation, livestock production, technology of milk and cheese production). On selected locations, farms and processing capacities detail researches are carried out relating to soil, artificial and natural grasslands, reproductive and production potential of cattle and sheep, determination of genetic and non-genetic factors affecting milk traits, quantity and quality of milk, proteins, milk fat, lactose, etc., technological and microbiological traits of milk and cheese. Main objectives of this research and development project is to realize scientific -technological solutions in primary livestock production using our own scientific potentials in order to provide increased productivity, increased number of market farmers capable for competitive economy and production on domestic and foreign market with recognized final product with protected geographical origin, in other words - optimization and standardization of native technology of white cheese from Sjenica with protected brand and origin.
AB  - Istraživanja su zasnovana na korišćenju prirodnih potencijala šireg regiona Sjeničko-pešterske visoravni. U okviru ovih istraživanja obavlja se snimanje i proučavanje određenih parametara na odabranim lokalitetima ( zemljište, vegetacija, stočarstvo, tehnologija mleka i sira). Na odabranim lokalitetima, farmama i preradjivačkim kapacitetima obavljaju se detaljna istraživanja, zemljišta, prirodnih i veštačkih travnjaka i livada, reproduktivnih i proizvodnih potencijala goveda i ovaca, determinacija genetskih i negenetskih faktora na svojstva mlečnosti, kvantitet i kvalitet mleka, proteini, mlečna mast, laktoza i dr.,tehnološka i mikrobiološka svojstva mleka i sira. Osnovni ciljevi ovog istraživačko-razvojnog projekta je da se korišćenjem sopstvenih naučnih potencijala dođe do naučno-tehnoloških rešenja u primarnoj stočarskoj proizvodnji, koja će obezbediti porast produktivnosti, povećanje robnih proizvođača osposobljenih za konkurentnu proizvodnju na domaćem i stranom tržištu sa prepoznatljivim finalnim proizvodom zaštićenog geografskog porekla, odnosno optimizaciju i standardizaciju autohtone tehnologije Sjeničkog sira sa zaštitom oznake porekla.

Certain parameters on selected locations are recorded (soil, vegetation, livestock production, technology of milk and cheese production). On selected locations, farms and processing capacities detail researches are carried out relating to soil, artificial and natural grasslands, reproductive and production potential of cattle and sheep, determination of genetic and non-genetic factors affecting milk traits, quantity and quality of milk, proteins, milk fat, lactose, etc., technological and microbiological traits of milk and cheese. Main objectives of this research and development project is to realize scientific -technological solutions in primary livestock production using our own scientific potentials in order to provide increased productivity, increased number of market farmers capable for competitive economy and production on domestic and foreign market with recognized final product with protected geographical origin, in other words - optimization and standardization of native technology of white cheese from Sjenica with protected brand and origin., Istraživanja su zasnovana na korišćenju prirodnih potencijala šireg regiona Sjeničko-pešterske visoravni. U okviru ovih istraživanja obavlja se snimanje i proučavanje određenih parametara na odabranim lokalitetima ( zemljište, vegetacija, stočarstvo, tehnologija mleka i sira). Na odabranim lokalitetima, farmama i preradjivačkim kapacitetima obavljaju se detaljna istraživanja, zemljišta, prirodnih i veštačkih travnjaka i livada, reproduktivnih i proizvodnih potencijala goveda i ovaca, determinacija genetskih i negenetskih faktora na svojstva mlečnosti, kvantitet i kvalitet mleka, proteini, mlečna mast, laktoza i dr.,tehnološka i mikrobiološka svojstva mleka i sira. Osnovni ciljevi ovog istraživačko-razvojnog projekta je da se korišćenjem sopstvenih naučnih potencijala dođe do naučno-tehnoloških rešenja u primarnoj stočarskoj proizvodnji, koja će obezbediti porast produktivnosti, povećanje robnih proizvođača osposobljenih za konkurentnu proizvodnju na domaćem i stranom tržištu sa prepoznatljivim finalnim proizvodom zaštićenog geografskog porekla, odnosno optimizaciju i standardizaciju autohtone tehnologije Sjeničkog sira sa zaštitom oznake porekla.",
