AB - In this study, 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) and nitrogen fertigation were used to improve branching of nine-month old apple ‘Golden Reinders’ nursery trees grafted on ‘M9’ rootstock. The upper third of nursery trees was treated weekly with 6-BA, 3 times in June in concentration of 0, 300, 600, 1,200 and 1,800 mg L-1. Nitrogen (N) was also added weekly, at total amount of 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1 for a season. Parameters of nursery tree quality (trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA), height of nursery tree and the number and quality of lateral branches) were evaluated at the end of the growing season. Their classification was done according to number of lateral branches longer than 30 cm in the two groups, as follows: 1) nursery trees with 5 or more lateral branches (5+) and 2) nursery trees with 3 or 4 lateral branches (3+). These nursery trees were then planted in high density orchard (3,470 tree ha-1) and their productive characteristics were tested with three levels of crop load during the second (2015) and the third growing year (2016). Low crop load (LCL) included 10 fruit in the second and 40 fruit tree-1 in the third year, moderate crop load (MCL) included 20 fruit in the second and 65 fruit tree-1 in the third year and high crop load (HCL) included 30 fruit in the second and 90 fruit tree-1 in the third year. Application of 6-BA and N enhanced diameter and height of trees in the nursery. The height of the tree was however more influenced by the application of N. Total number of lateral branches and number of branches longer than 30 cm were increased in the treatments with 6-BA, whereby any increase in its concentration significantly increased the number of lateral branches. The same trend was also observed with application of higher N concentration. Additionally, the interaction of these two factors significantly enhanced their individual effect. In the orchard, during the second year, the yield increased significantly with the increase of the crop load, but fruit size did not differ significantly. HCL provided the highest total yield and the yield of fruit with diameter >70 mm in both examined groups of nursery trees. There were no differences among the number of fruiting buds tree-1 loaded with different numbers of fruits. The trees belonging to class 5+ had a significantly higher yield and number of fruit buds for the subsequent year compared to the trees belonging to class 3+. In the third year, a higher crop load increased the total yield tree-1, but reduces the average weight of the fruit. HCL trees had the highest yield and reduced fruit weight compared to the other treatments, but all fruits showed a diameter >70 mm. However, number of fruiting buds tree-1 was significantly reduced compared to the other two treatments and was not enough for regular yields in subsequent year. MCL trees had high yield and enough number of fruiting buds for full productivity in the fourth year. © 2022 International Society for Horticultural Science. All rights reserved.

AB - BA, NAA and metamitron (MM) were tested alone or in combination to induce fruit thinning on ‘Gala’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ apple cultivars. In ‘Gala’ 225 mg L-1 MM, 100 mg L-1 BA and 10 mg L-1 NAA were applied while in ‘Golden Delicious’ higher concentration were used: 300 mg L-1 MM, 150 mg L-1 BA and 15 mg L-1 NAA. All the compounds were applied once 7 days after full bloom or 21 days after full bloom or in repeated applications on both dates, always in combination with MM. The application of MM 7 days after full bloom resulted in a weak efficacy in both cultivars. The application of MM 21 days after full bloom, when temperature conditions during and after the application were more favorable, induced a higher efficacy, that results in reduced number of fruits tree-1, improved fruit size and satisfactory return bloom. Individual BA treatments, regardless of application timing and temperature conditions did not induce satisfactory thinning in both cultivars. NAA efficacy was cultivar dependent: early application improved fruit weight and fruit size distribution in ‘Gala’. In ‘Golden Delicious’, the second application reduced the number of fruits tree-1, increased average fruit weight reducing share of small fruit in the total yield. Sequential application of MM together with BA and NAA was the most reliable option for chemical thinning in both cultivars. MM as the second thinner caused slightly over thinning in ‘Gala’, easier to thin than ‘Golden Delicious’. In ‘Golden Delicious’ only sequential early BA together with late MM application simultaneously reduced fruit number, increased fruit size and provided acceptable return bloom. © 2022 International Society for Horticultural Science. AB - The aim of this study was to evaluate the thinning efficacy of metamitron applied either alone (single or double application) or in combination with 6-benzyladenine (BA) or naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) in ‘Red Jonaprince’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ apple trees. The experiment was carried out during the 2014 (third growing season) at the commercial orchard located on mountain Fruska Gora, Serbia. Application of chemical thinners was carried out at two fruit diameter stages (‘Red Jonaprince’ 9-11 and 16-18 mm and ‘Golden Delicious’ 8-10 and 14-16 mm). Number of fruit and yield tree-1, fruit size distribution, parameters of fruit ripeness and return bloom were assessed. In both studied cultivars all metamitron treatments effectively reduced number of fruit tree-1 compared to the control treatment, regardless of fruit diameter stages at the moment of its application. Moreover, application of metamitron when the fruit diameter was 16-18 mm influenced overthinning in ‘Red Jonaprince’, especially when it was combined with BA and NAA. These treatments significantly decreased yield tree-1 compared to the control treatment. All metamitron treatments in both tested cultivars resulted in a significant mean fruit weight increase accompanied with increased share of large fruits in total yield in ‘Golden Delicious’. The metamitron treatments with BA and NAA significantly increased flowering intensity for the next year in both tested cultivars. Similar effect was noticed in ‘Golden Delicious’ when metamitron was applied as alone thinner in the same time. The thinning effect of metamitron treatments on TSS as fruit maturity parameters were only observed in ‘Golden Delicious’.

AB - In this paper the results of chemical fruit thinning in the apple cultivar ‘Granny Smith’ carried out with the herbicide Brevis® containing 150 g kg-1 of metamitron as the active ingredient are reported. In two treatments, the effect of this compound was enhanced by NAA (1-naphthaleneacetic acid). This study was conducted in a commercial apple orchard of PIK “Južni Banat” located in Bela Crkva (Serbia), in two consecutive years (2013, 2014). The planting distance was 3.3×0.8 m (3878 trees ha-1) and trees were trained as slender spindle. Brevis® was sprayed when central fruits in the clusters were 12-14 mm in diameter. Applied treatments in ‘Granny Smith’ were as follows: control, 150, 188, 225, 150 mg L-1 of metamitron + 5 mg L-1 NAA and 225 mg L-1 metamitron + 5 mg L-1 NAA. Spraying volume was 800 L ha-1 in all applied treatments. Metamitron expressed a positive influence on crop load in both investigated years. Treatments containing metamitron alone provided large yield consisting of a high percentage of first quality fruit. The effect of metamitron could be enhanced by mixing with NAA.

AB - Intensive fruit production, primarily pome and stone fruits, without the use of plant bioregulators, which are a powerful tool for the regulation of many physiological processes in fruit trees, would be very difficult. The most important bioregulators are as follows: α-Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), 6-Benzyladenine (BA), Giberellins (GAs), Etefon, Amino ethoxy vinyl glycine (AVG) and 1- Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP). They are successfully used in the production of nursery trees in order to improve their quality. These compounds are also used for regulation of fruit trees vigor and productivity as well as for improving fruit quality. In addition to this, bioregulators can be applied on harvested fruits to increase their storage ability and reduce the incidence of physiological diseases during storage.

AB - The apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) cultivar 'Golden Reinders' was used to study the effects of mixture of 6-BA and GA((4+7)) (Promalin) and nitrogen fertigation to improve branching of nine-month-old nursery trees grafted on 'M9' rootstock. Promalin was applied three times in June in weekly intervals, in concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg L-1 to the upper third of trees. Nitrogen (N) was injected weekly at total amount of 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha(-1) for season. Obtained results indicated that nursery trees without Promalin treatment were characterized by significantly lower trunk than with Promalin treatments. Application of N through the system in increasing rates significantly contributed to higher values of trunk diameter. Tree leaders were significantly longer in Promalin treatments only when amounts of applied N were above 100 kg ha(-1). However, N influence on height of nursery trees was not confirmed if they were not subjected to Promalin treatment. Total number of feathers and the number of feathers >30 cm were simultaneously increasing with the increase of Promalin rates. The same trend was observed with applying higher amounts of N. Significant interaction effect between Promalin and N confirmed in this study indicates that Promalin treatment has no effect on number of lateral branches without N application. Increasing of Promalin concentrations above 1500 mg L-1 had no significant influence on the number of lateral branches and number of feathers >30 cm, regardless of N amounts.

AB - The objective of this study was to determine the fruit characteristics of peach and nectarine cultivars in a new training system (Sloping Leader). High-density orchard (2,800 trees ha(-1)) was established by planting vineyard peach seedlings at a 3.5 x 1 m spacing. Grafting was performed at a height of 50 cm. The central leader was bent at the angle of 65 degrees. The standard experimental plot was planted with nursery trees and two training systems: Fusetto (4x2 m) and Open Vase (4x4 m) were applied. The influence of three different training systems on fruit characteristics of three peach cultivars:. Early O'Henry',. Sunprince', and. Autumn Glo', and two nectarine cultivars:. Stark Redgold' and 'Max 7' was studied during the three-year period (20092011). A small tree spacing reduced fruit size of peach cultivars 'Early O'Henry' and 'Sunprince' and nectarine cultivar 'Max 7'. Unlike, in 'Autumn Glo' and. Stark Redgold' differences in fruit size between training systems were not significant.

AB - This study presents the influence of BA (6-benzyladenine) and BA+GA4+7 (6-benzyladenine + gibberellic acids 4 and 7) on feathering of one-year-old apple trees of two cultivars Jonagold and Čadel. Different concentrations of BA (300, 600, 1,200 and 1,800 mg L-1) and BA+GA4+7 (500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 mg L-1) were applied, and two treatments for both chemicals were performed. The first treatment was applied at 70-cm height of nursery trees and the second 2 weeks later. Comparison was performed in relation to untreated control. An application of BA and BA+GA4+7 did not affect both rootstock and nursery tree diameter at 10 cm above the grafting union. Nursery trees of cultivar Jonagold were not influenced by treatments applied, whereas in cultivar Čadel, the treatment with BA+GA4+7 decreased apical growth of nursery trees. The development of sylleptic shoots in both cultivars tested was influenced by the type of growth regulator and concentration applied. Treatment with BA at 300 mg L-1 concentration in both cultivars tested did not influence total length and number of sylleptic shoots, as well as the number of sylleptic shoots longer than 20 cm. The most positive influence on all studied parameters was observed on nursery trees treated with the concentration of 1,200 mg L-1 BA. The lowest concentration of BA+GA4+7 (500 mg L-1) caused the low feathering of both studied cultivars. The higher concentrations (1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 mg L-1) similarly increased the number and total length of sylleptic shoots of nursery trees.

AB - One unusual aspect of resistance to sharka (Plum Pox Virus, PPV) has been discovered and studied in plum trees in the six consecutive years. The absence of sharka symptoms in some of primary branches of infected plum trees characterized as resistance. Symptoms appearance was observed and PPV presence was checked serologically by DAS- ELISA test as well as by grafting transmission. That aspect of resistance mainly appears in a portion of the tree crown, i.e. on some primary branches of young plum trees and it is diminishing in following years. That distinct resistance to sharka (PPV) was found in trees of Čačanska rodna, Stanley and Crvena ranka cvs. In selected plum trees in the parts with such resistance no sharka symptoms appeared nor PPV was proved. The absence of sharka symptoms as well as PPV in a portion of a plum tree otherwise diseased by sharka is considered as a sign of resistance. For such aspect of resistance the name “Sectorial Resistance” is proposed. It is continues more and detail research on sectorial resistance of plum to PPV are in progress.

AB - The effects of 5 crop load levels (all fruit removed and 10, 20, 30, and 40 fruit per tree) in the second growing year on vegetative growth, productivity, and fruit quality were studied in apple cultivars Gala and Braeburn on M9 rootstock in the second and the third leaf. An increase in vegetative growth was observed on the defruited trees in the second growing year. The highest crop load of 40 fruits per tree reduced average fruit weight by 18.7% in Gala compared to those obtained on the trees carrying the lowest crop load (10 fruits per tree). The reduction in average fruit weight was compensated by the increase in yields. Yield per tree in the treatment with the highest crop load was 2.4-fold higher in Gala and 2.7-fold higher in Braeburn than the treatment with the lowest crop load. Yield efficiency (kg cm(-2) trunk cross-section area) in both tested cultivars ranked the highest on the trees carrying the heaviest crop. The highest crop load in the second growing year did not have negative consequences on the yield and fruit quality obtained in the third growing year.

AB - Ocimum sanctum L. (Lamiaceae) sin. Ocimum tenuiflorum L. or Tulsi basil is a plant originating from the tropical and subtropical areas of India. It is used in both the traditional and official medicine in India. Tulsi is a type of basil that is insufficiently explored and studied in Europe. The goal of this paper is to determine the chemical composition, antioxidative, and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil Ocimum sanctum L. grown in Serbia. The quantity of essential oil in 100 g of herb (v/w) is 0.68%, with 41 components identified in the tested essential oil. The most represented chemical group were sesquiturpene hydrocarbonates with 80.47%. Other groups were much less represented. Sesquiturpene hydrocarbonate β-cariophyllene is a predominant component in the essential oil with 63.80%. The quantity of tested essential oil needed to achieve 50% of inhibition of DPPH radicals is 0.35 µg/ml, and it has high potential to neutralize free radicals. The essential oil exhibited antibacterial activity to all tested strains of bacteria, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative. It affected all strains in an inhibitory way in the interval 0.34-41.50 µl/ml, and in a bactericide way within the range 22.50-124.5 µl/ml. The most sensitive strains of bacteria were Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli, while Listeria monocytogenes and Enterococus faecalis showed greatest resistance. The essential oil exhibited antifungal activity on all tested fungi. It affected all tested fungi in an inhibitory way in the interval 4.42-8.83 µl/ml, and in a microbicide way within the range 10.00-50.00 µl/ml. The most sensitive fungi are: Aspergillus ochraceus, Penicillium ochrochloron and Penicilium funiculosum, while the most resistant one is Aspergillus niger. The tested basil essential oil Ocimum sanctum demonstrated significant antioxidative and antimicrobial effect and may be used as a raw material in food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

AB - Seedlings (progenies) of eight selected vineyard peach genotypes obtained by self and open pollination were examined in this study during three consecutive years. Two progenies from unselected vineyard peach genotypes with different geographic origin were used as a standard. Peach cv. Autumn Glo and nectarine cv. Stark Red Gold were grafted on F1 generation of eight vineyard peach selections and two standard progenies. Analysis of variance indicated statistically significant differences in vigour and fruit productivity between fruit trees grafted on different progenies of vineyard peach selections. A high correlation was found between rootstock vigour and fruit production of grafted cultivars. In addition, the principal component analysis made it possible to establish similar groups of rootstocks, depending on its influence to vigour, productivity and indexes of efficiency of grafted peach and nectarine cultivar. The most promising rootstocks for those two cultivars were PSK and 7S because grafted AG and SRG have high fruit weight, initial yields and very satisfactory rootstock, scion and canopy efficiency.

AB - Graft transmissibility of the plum sectorial resistance to Plum pox virus (PPV) was investigated. Sectorial resistance is the resistance which is manifested in a sector or portion of infected plant, where virus is not present. Sectorial resistance to PPV is exhibited in the crown or in primary shoots of the plum tree. Double budding method was applied. One bud was carrying sectorial resistance to PPV, while the other one was infected with the virus. Infection on shoots was evaluated by symptoms appearance and serological test for PPV presence.Among three plum cultivars the best results were obtained with cv. "Crvena ranka". Sectorial resistance to PPV has been successfully transmitted by buds of "Crvena ranka". Plum cv. "Č ačanska rodna" failed to transmit sectorial resistance. Plum cv. "Stanley" was between those two above-mentioned plum cultivars.

AB - Medlar is the fruit of Mespilus germanica L. in the family of Rosaceae. The fruit can be eaten only if "bletted" (softened by frost or longer storage). The effect of the maturation stages on the volatile compounds of the medlar fruit was investigated during two different stages. Volatile flavour substances were isolated from the minced pulp of unripe and full ripe medlar fruits by simultaneous steam distillation extraction (SDE) with methylene chloride as the extracting solvent. The concentrate was analyzed by GC-FID-MS. Hexanoic and hexadecanoic acids were the predominant acids, hexanal and (E)-2-hexenal were the predominant aldehydes, (Z)-3-hexenol and hexanol were the predominant alcohols, with p-cymene, terpinen-4-ol, and γ-terpinene (the terpenes responsible for the characteristic medlar flavour) being also present. The C6 aliphatic compounds, such as hexanal and (E)-2-hexenal, were observed as the major volatile constituents in the green stage. In contrast, hexanol and (Z)-3-hexenol were the main volatiles in ripe fruits.

AB - Thirteen black currant varieties (Ribes nigrum L.) cultured in Serbia were characterized for their pomological properties and chemical composition (total phenolics, total anthocyanins, anthocyanin aglycones, sugars, and vitamin C). The average amount of vitamin C varied from 122.4 to 193.2 mg/100 g fresh weight (FW), while concentration of invert sugars ranged from 6.3% to 11.1%. The highest amounts of total phenolics and anthocyanins were detected in variety Ometa (278.9 mg of gallic acid equivalents per 100 g of FW [mg GAE/100 g FW] and 135.4 mg/100 g, respectively). Quantitative analyses of anthocyanin aglycones in berries were performed using high-performance liquid chromatography, and delphinidin was found to be dominant compound in 11 varieties. Total phenolics and anthocyanins contents decreased during the processing of berry fruits to juices, and the reduction of anthocyanins was more pronounced, 12%-80%. The radical scavenging activity of black currant juices was investigated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, and the IC50 value ranged from 1.9 to 4.0 mg/mL. Our results also showed that freezing as a way of preservation and storage could save important phytochemicals and health benefits of berries and berry juices. The amount of total phenolics in berries increased during 1 year of storage by 46.09%-171.76% and in juices by even 107.58%, while the amount of total anthocyanins in berries and juices decrease by 5.63%-52.76% and 13.04%-36.82%, respectively.

AB - This study examines influence of slope planting apple trees and bending central leader, on generative potential and productivity properties of three cultivars ‘Scarlet Spur’, ‘Galaxy’ and ‘Tentation’, on conditions of Obrenovacka Posavina area (2010-2011). Apple trees of same cultivars in standard slender spindle form are used as control. The study include number of flower buds per three, number of flowers per three, number of fruits per tree, percentage of fruit set, fruit weight and yield per tree and per hectare. The treatment and control trees did not show statistically significant differences in the generative potential, but all the cultivars achieved best performances in the treatment of slope planting trees with the bent central leader. This result was achieved by increasing tree density per unit area, but due to the modification of the training system. Absolutely the highest average fruit yield in this treatment was recorded in cultivar ‘Tentation’ (81.7 t ha-1).

AB - In the present study, the influence of different agents for apple tree chemical thinning on yield components and fruit quality was investigated. The experiment was conducted in apple orchard established with cultivars 'Idared', 'Golden Delicious' and 'Mondial Gala' during 2009. The agents tested were Napthalenacetamid (NAD), alpha-naphtaleneacetic acid (NAA, two concentrations) and Carbaryl (Sevin WP-50). Chemical thinning expressed significant influence on decreasing of fruit number per tree and increasing of fruit size. Among the tested agents only Carbaryl did not show these effects in 'Golden Delicious'. Yield per tree was not affected by chemical treatments in 'Idared', whereas the thinning significantly decreased the yields in 'Golden Delicious' and 'Mondial Gala'. A significant return bloom was recorded in all chemical treatments in 'Idared' and 'Golden Delicious'. Chemical fruit composition was not influenced by thinning treatments in all tested cultivars. In 'Mondial Gala' more intensive fruit colour was recorded in the treatments with Carbaryl and NAD, which also reduced the fruit number per tree.

AB - High quality one-year-old nursery trees of the apple cultivars 'Golden Reinders', 'Granny Smith' and 'Red Chief', with more than seven lateral shoots, were planted in 2008 bearing fruits the same year. Two levels of crop load (3 and 6 fruits per tree) were applied in cultivars 'Red Chief' and 'Granny Smith', whereas six levels of crop load (3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 fruits per tree) in cultivar 'Golden Reinders'. Control treatment without fruits was also included in all cultivars. Planting distance was 3.2× 0.8 m and the trees were trained like slender spindle. Crop load in cultivar 'Red Chief' did not influence on trunk cross sectional area (TCSA), while a reduction of TCSA was recorded in treatments with 9 or more fruits per tree in cultivar 'Golden Reinders'. Crop load increased also the growth in cultivar 'Granny Smith'. Number of shoots and total shoot length decreased on more fruitful trees of cultivar 'Red Chief' in relation to control treatment. 'Golden Reinders' had both lower number of shoots and total length when 9 or more fruits were left in the trees, while this trend were observed in 'Granny Smith' when only 6 fruits per tree were left. Crop load influenced the yield of cultivars, as trees with 6 fruits produced 4.6 t ha-1 in cultivar 'Red Chief', 4,03 in cultivar 'Golden Reinders' and 4,7 t ha-1 in cultivar 'Granny Smith'. By increasing crop load above 6 fruits per tree, fruit weight decreased in cultivars 'Red Chief' and 'Granny Smith'. Fruit weight of cultivar 'Golden Reinders' was decreased only in trees with 15 fruits. Crop load reduced flower buds the following year in cultivar 'Red Chief'. However, cultivars 'Granny Smith' and 'Golden Reinders' with 3 and 6 fruits per tree formed enough reproductive buds for optimal yield in the second year.

AB - This paper presents the results of research conducted on five cultivars of white currant ('Primus', 'White Champagne', 'Witte aus Juteborg', 'Witte Parel' and 'Viktoria'), in the 2007-2009. In addition to biological and production characteristics, indicators of dietary-therapeutic values of the observed cultivars fruits were examined too. The results showed that 'Primus' and 'Victoria' cultivars have significantly higher production value than other cultivars, which recommends them for further expansion in similar agro-ecological conditions. After one year of storage at temperature of -18 degrees C, content of total phenolics in the fruits was examined, while the antiradical activity was tested in the corresponding juices. Cultivar 'Primus' significantly differs in both its total phenolic content and antiradical activity.

AB - In this paper, we investigated dynamic of flowering and the flower sensitivity of 9 black and 6 red currant cultivars to spring frosts. The aim of this study was to separate the most resistant cultivars of spring frosts on that region. The experiment was set up in the orchard of berries, in the farm nursery Omega, Mislodjin near Belgrade, during 2006. In our study both currant cultivars started flowering in the last 10 days of March (average for the period 2007-2009). Time between first flower and first berries varied from 16 to 21 day. The earliest flowering began with the red currants - 'Junifer' and 'Stanca' and black currant 'Bona'. Black currant cultivars did not show correlation between level of frost damage and the beginning of the cultivar flowering. However, among red currant cultivars this correlation is strong. The highest level of freezing was among early-flowering cultivars, and the lowest among late-flowering cultivars.

AB - A special resistance to sharka (Plum Pox Virus, PPV) has been discovered and studied in plum trees. That resistance is characterized by the absence of sharka symptoms and PPV, too, in some of primary branches of plum trees otherwise diseased by sharka. Symptoms appearance was observed and PPV presence was checked serologically by DAS-ELISA test as well as by grafting transmission. That resistance mainly appears in a portion of the tree crown, i.e. on some primary branches of young plum trees and it is diminishing in following years. For such resistance the name 'Sectorial Resistance' is proposed. More and detail research on sectorial resistance of plum to PPV are in progress.

AB - The incidence and density of some weed species in or chards including plum, apricot and peach, is affected by numerous ecological factors: soil type and properties, configuration of the terrain, climatic conditions, plant/geographic relationships, geographic position of the or chard and level of human factors influenced by fruit cultivation measures, agricultural practices, physical and chemical measures undertaken when establishing and exploiting the orchard. In newly established or chards with intensive production, row weed species were noted to predominate. With years the weed species in the row region were segetal-ruderal species whereas inter row weed species predominated in the inter row place (where dominant segetal-ruderal species). In orchards focused on extensive production, the weed species registered were those found in pastures. The measures used to control or chard weeds may be mechanical, taking care of the land area (idle land, heath, cover crop growing) or chemical, i.e. using herbicides, an efficient and cheap way of solving the problem and protecting both or chard and the environment. There are only four active ingredients registered for pre-em application in our country compared with the world (16 pre-em a.i.). Only seven a.i. of the 14 known, have been registered for post-em application. In newly established or chards only one a.i. has been registered of the six known. .

In newly established or chards only one a.i. has been registered of the six known.

AB - Eleven red currant varieties (Ribes rubrum L.) cultured in Serbia were evaluated for some of their biochemical properties such as total phenolics, anthocyanins, ascorbic acid, invert sugar, soluble solid content, and acidity. The average amount of ascorbic acid varied from 50.5-71.6 mg/100 g FW, while concentration of invert sugars ranged from 6.0%-9.0%. The highest amounts of total phenolics and anthocyanins were detected in variety Redpoll (153.4 mg GAE/100 g FW and 19.3 mg/100 g, respectively). Red currants were processed to juice, and the phenolic and anthocyanin contents changed as a result of processing. Berries and juices were long-term stored at -18 A degrees C and changes in phytochemicals were monitored. In berries, storage caused the decrease of ascorbic acid content up to 49%, and a general reduction of total phenolics was also noticed. In juices, total phenolics content increased after one year of storage. In both berries and juices total anthocyanins increased during storage by up to 85% and 50%, respectively. This study demonstrates that certain varieties, namely Redpoll, Jonkheer and London Market are good source of phytochemicals, retaining the nutritional value during processing and storage.

AB - Fruits from three walnut cultivars were picked in three terms with the aim to determine the optimal harvesting time of green walnut fruits for the improvement fruit brandies. Quantity of juglone and its antioxidant activity was determined in the picked fruits. Juglone quantity was the highest in fruits weighing between 4.5 g and 6.5 g (harvesting time around June 1), and varied from 209.60 mg up to 735.00 mg in the cultivar Sheinovo, from 388.50 mg up to 418.60 mg in the cultivar Geisenheim 139 and from 325.50 mg up to 499.40 mg in the cultivar Geisenheim 251, in a sample of 100 fruits. In this phase, walnut fruits had the highest antioxidant activity, too. .
AB - Tehnikom visokoefikasne tečne hromatografije određivan je sadržaj juglona (5-hidroxi-1,4-naftohinona) u uzorcima mladog oraha različitih sorti i različite zrelosti berbi 2005. i 2006. godine. Pored toga određena je anatioksidativna aktivnost metanolnih ekstrakata uzoraka plodova. Koncentracije juglona se nalaze u opsegu 0,03-0,24 % za berbu 2005. i 0,03-0,08 % za berbu 2006. Svi uzorci su pokazali značajnu antioksidativnu aktivnost. .
