AB - The olive fruits are rich source of oil, vitamins, minerals, organic acids and pigments. The fruits contain high level of bioactive compounds. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of heat treatment on tocopherols, total phenolics and antioxidant activity in green and black olives, as well as their fatty acid composition. The instrumental methods used in this experiment were high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC/FID) and spectrophotometric methods. The results revealed that the β+γ-tocopherols content after the heat treatment had the biggest reduction, which was 68.4% for green and 80.2% for black olives. Also, a significant loss of total phenolic content was observed after heat treatment in green and black olives by 18.6% and 18.4%, respectively, as well as antioxidant activity (decrease up to 28.1%). The most abundant fatty acids in green and black olives were oleic (C18:1), palmitic (C16:0) and linoleic acid (C18:2). The changes in fatty acids composition during the heat treatment occurred mostly at the level of polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially linolenic acid (C18:3) in black olives had the significant reduction (by 57.4%) in relation to the initial quantity. © 2023,Notulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca. AB - Almond production in Serbia is very small. The main reason for this is the frequent occurrence
of late spring frosts during flowering. Present study was carried out to evaluate phenological
characteristics (flowering and maturity times), productivity, and characteristics of the nut and the
kernel (nut weight and dimensions, shell thickness, weight of kernel, kernel share, oil and protein
contents) in 13 almond genotypes of a different origin growing in the region of Belgrade. The
average flowering time was the second half of March and the first decade of April. The
flowering began first in ‛Nessebarʼ, ‛Selection 25ʼ, and ‛Tétényi kedvencʼ (16th of March), and
latest in ‛Francoliʼ, and ‛Texasʼ (29th of March). Beginning of the fruit maturity was recorded in
the range of 13 days, from August 15th (‛Tétényi bőtermőʼ and ‘Tétényi keményhéjúʼ) to August
28th (‛Glorietaʼ). The average productivity was the lowest in ‛Glorietaʼ and ‛Francoliʼ and the
highest in ‛Tuonoʼ. In March 2017 late spring frost that significantly reduced yield in early
flowering cultivars was recorded. Nut weight ranged from 1.95 g (‛Budatétényʼ) to 5.58 g
(‛Marconaʼ). Shell thickness varied from 1.71 mm (‛Budatétényʼ) to 5.06 mm (‛Marconaʼ).
Kernel weight was the lowest in ‛Selection 25ʼ (0.80 g) and ‛Tuonoʼ (0.81 g), and the highest in
‛Texasʼ (1.30 g). Kernel share was the lowest in ‛Selection 25ʼ (16.03%), and the highest in
‛Budatétényʼ (57.93%). Oil content ranged from 44.35% (‛Glorietaʼ) to 57.52% (‛Budatétényʼ),
and protein content ranged from 21.72% (‛Budatétényʼ) to 30.51% (‛Selection 25ʼ). Obtained
results indicate that Belgrade region is suitable for growing of late flowering almond cultivars.

AB - Pruning is the most important pomotechnical measure in intensive sweet cherry cultivation, that significantly affects fruit quality. The objective of this study was to examine the influence of pruning intensity on biological characteristics of sweet cherry trees. The experimental orchard was situated on the Fruška Gora mountain, near Novi Sad, in the north of Serbia. Three sweet cherry cultivars were examined: ‘Burlat’, ‘Carmen’ and ‘Summit’. All cultivars were grafted on ‘Oblačinska’ sour cherry rootstock. Experimental orchard was established in 2012 with planting distance 3.85×2.5 m. During a two-year period (2017-2018) the following characteristics were studied: time of flowering and ripening, trunk diameter, number of spurs tree-1, fruit weight and yield. Pruning was applied in September with two intensities: intensive pruning (IP) and moderate pruning (MP). After pruning, number of spurs tree-1 was counted and calculated in relation to trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA). Number of spurs cm-2 of TCSA in IP variant was in the range of 2.03-2.18, and in MP variant it ranged 3.16-3.45. The results indicate significant effect of pruning intensity on fruit weight. Average fruit weight on IP trees in all three cultivars was significantly higher than on MP trees. Yield was also under influence of pruning intensity, and IP mostly leads to yield decreasing.

AB - This study was realized in order to evaluate usability of isoenzymes in selection of low vigour cherry genotypes. The correlation of isoenzyme profiles with plant/tree vigour of 20 genotypes belonging to the genus Prunus, subgenus Cerasus as well as to four commercial rootstocks (Colt, Gisela 5, Gisela 6 and MaxMa 14) was investigated in this study. For this purpose, isoenzyme bands were identified by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) for eight systems: alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), formate dehydrogenase (FDH), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), isocitrate dehydrogenaze (IDH), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD), shikimate dehydrogenase (SDH) and peroxidase (PRX). Inner bark of one-year-old shoots, in dormant stage was used for protein extraction. Cluster analysis was used to construct dendrogram for the classification of the cherry genotypes based on vigour traits and polymorphism of isoenzymes. The results showed that isoenzyme activity could be used in the selection of low vigour cherry genotypes and rootstock for high density orchards.

AB - Cherries (Prunus avium L. and Prunus cerasus L.) are economically important fruit species in the temperate region. Both are entomophilous fruit species, thus need pollinators to give high yields. Since cherry’s flower is easy-to-reach, bees and other pollinators can smoothly collect nectar as a reward for doing transfer of pollen to receptive stigma. Nectar in cherry is usually attractive for insects, especially to honey bee (Apis mellifera) who is the most common pollinator. Nectar is predominantly an aqueous solution of sugars, proteins, and free amino acids among which sugars are the most dominant. Trace amounts of lipids, organic acids, iridoid glycosides, minerals, vitamins, alkaloids, plant hormones, non-protein amino, terpenoids, glucosinolates, and cardenolides can be found in nectar too. Cherry flower may secrete nectar for 2–4 days and, depending on the cultivar, produces up to 10 mg nectar with sugar concentration from 28% to 55%. Detailed chemical analysis of cherry nectar described in this chapter is focused on sugar and phenolic profile in sour cherry. The most abounded sugars in cherry nectar was fructose, glucose, and sucrose, while arabinose, rhamnose, maltose, isomaltose, trehalose, gentiobiose, turanose, panose, melezitose, maltotriose, isomaltotriose, as well as the sugar alcohols glycerol, erythritol, arabitol, galactitol, and mannitol are present as minor constituents. Regarding polyphenolics, rutin was the most abundant phenolic compound followed by naringenin and chrysin. Cherry cultivars showed different chemical composition of nectar which implies that its content is cultivar dependent.

AB - This study was carried out in order to determine the rootstock effect on content of oil and most abundant fatty acids (oleic acid and linoleic acid), oleic acid/linoleic acid ratio, total phenolic content (TPC) and radical-scavenging activity (RSA) of almond kernels. The experimental orchard was established in 2006 in Surduk (North Serbia). Cultivars 'Troito', 'Marcona' and 'Texas' were budded (grafted) on myrabalan plum seedlings and 'GF 677'. Results revealed significant influence of rootstock on evaluated characteristics. Except content of oleic acid and oleic acid/linoleic acid ratio all other parameters had higher values when cultivars were grafted onto myrabalan plum. As expected, significant differences were also determined among studied cultivars. Except content of linoleic acid, for all other parameters the lowest values were found in 'Marcona', while highest for 'Texas'. Obtained results can be used for improving of almond quality in agroecological conditions of Serbia.

AB - The main goal of breeding and testing of rootstocks for sweet cherry is to obtain small and
productive trees and to improve precocity. The objective of this study was to examine the influence
of six rootstocks on vigor and productive characteristics of young sweet cherry trees. The
experimental orchard is situated at the Experimental farm “Radmilovac”, of the Faculty of
Agriculture (near Belgrade). Three sweet cherry cultivars: ‘Kordia’, ‘Karmen’ and ‘Regina’ were
grafted on six rootstocks: Prunus mahaleb L. seedlings, ‘Colt’, ‘Ma×Ma 14’, ‘Gisela 6’, ‘Gisela 5’ and
‘Oblačinska’ sour cherry. During a two-year period (2015-2016) the following characteristics were
studied: scion diameter above the grafting union, rootstock diameter under the grafting union,
length and diameter of shoots, height of the tree and the number of spurs per tree. The results
showed different influence of rootstocks on the tree vigor, spur formation and precocity. The
average diameter of the scion in all tested cultivars was the largest on the Mahaleb rootstock. The
largest average number of spurs per tree in the second year was recorded on cherry trees grafted on
the rootstocks ‘Gisela 6’ and ‘Oblačinska’ sour cherry (28 and 23 respectively). The lowest average
number of spurs (6) was found on trees grafted on the rootstock ‘Colt’.

AB - Almond production is not typical for Serbia however the existence of natural populations and unexpectedly suitable agro-climatic conditions initiated this kind of study. Total oil content and concentrations of the fatty acids, total phenolic content and radical-scavenging activity were determined in the kernel oil of 20 local almond selections originating from North Serbia and cultivars 'Marcona', 'Texas' and 'Troito'. Sixteen fatty acids were identified and quantified, with the most abundant being oleic acid and linoleic acid. Nine phenolic acids and nineteen flavonoids were quantified using UHPLC-DAD MS/MS. The predominant polyphenol was catechin, followed by chiorogenic acid and naringenin. Based on oleic acid/linoleic acid ratio, levels of unsaturated fatty acids and specific polyphenols, some selections were chosen for growing and could also be recommended for breeding programs. Our investigation demonstrated that this region could be a suitable for growing almonds with chemical compositions competitive with standard cultivars.

AB - Vitality of pollen, in vitro pollen germination and pollen tube growth (pollen tube length and pollen tube growth rate) were investigated in Oblacinska sour cherry in order to determine the differences between clones which have divergent yielding potential. For this purpose two 'Oblacinska' sour cherry clones with high fruit set and high yields (II/2, III/9) and two with low fruit set and low-yielding (XI/3 and XIII/1) were used in this study. Pollen germination was done on artificial medium containing 14% sucrose and 0.3% agar-agar at room temperature (23 degrees C). Pollen tube growth was stopped with a drop of 40% formaldehyde, 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 h after contact with the medium. The maximum percentage of germination ranged from 13.01% (clone II/2, after 1 h) to 54.19% (clone III/9, after 24 h). Pollen tube length varied from 64.84 mu m (clone XIII/1, after 1 h) to > 1,100 mu m (clones II/2 and III/9, after 24 h). Pollen growth rate was quite high (up to 1.71 mu m min(-1)) after 6 h of germination, but rather decreasing until 24 h of germination (0.56. 0.83 mu m min(-1)). The dynamics of in vitro pollen tubes growth among the clones were quite different, especially after 12 h and 24 h of germination. Clones that are singled out as fruitful (II/2 and III/9) gave much better results regarding pollen germination and pollen tube growth in comparison to clones which were characterized by low fruit set and yields (XI/3 and XIII/1).

AB - Flowering is one of the most important factors in plant fertility. Fruit set in fruits is directly influenced by the beginning, sequence, flow, duration and abundance of flowering. The objective of this study was to evaluate the variability of flowering in 41 'Oblacinska' sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) clones, and to recommend early-flowering genotypes for growing in warmer locations where late spring frosts are rare, and some late-flowering clones for sites more susceptible for spring frost. Results from the three years period (2004-06), showed that 'Oblacinska' sour cherry clones flowered in a fixed sequence each year. Average for clone VII/2N, which flowered the earliest, was April 8 and petal fall took place by April 21, whereas clone III/1 bloomed last on April 14 and petal fall took place on April 25. Statistical analysis showed that almost all sub-phases of flowering were under the significant influence of both ecological and genetic factors. Besides, ecologic factors had the highest impact to the variability of beginning of flowering (79.8%), full bloom (76.8%), petal fall (80.2%) and duration of flowering (85.56%). Clones III/1, III/13, V/6 and V/2 were considered as late flowering, whereas clones VII/2N, VI/27, VI/28 and IX/P were early flowering, taking place five days earlier then previous group.

Clones III/1, III/13, V/6 and V/2 were considered as late flowering, whereas clones VII/2N, VI/27, VI/28 and IX/P were early flowering, taking place five days earlier then previous group.",

AB - Seventy-five vineyard peach [Priam persica (LJ Batsch] accessions, obtained by seed propagation and originating from different regions of Serbia, were characterized using a set of 39 agro-morphological traits. The evaluation was carried out over a 3-year period in a vineyard peach collection situated at the Radmilovac Experimental Station, owned by the Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade University. To investigate diversity, descriptive statistics and multivariate analyses were used. Most studied traits showed high variability. The variability of descriptive traits was highly pronounced for fruit ground and flesh colour; regarding metric traits, the highest variation was recorded for trunk circumference, petal width, flower density, fruit set, fruit weight, sweetness index, fruit taste and fruit flavour. According to PCA, traits with high discriminating power were those related to flower type, colour and size, fruit size and presence of over colour, tree height, ripening time and fruit taste. The cluster analysis grouped accessions into three main clusters and a few sub-clusters. Agronomically important traits allowed a clear separation between the clusters, while morphological traits had almost no impact on this. This study provided information that is important for assessing the biodiversity of vineyard peach accessions, to develop guidelines useful for the description, classification and conservation of valuable local germplasm. Moreover, the phenotypic variability in the vineyard peach collection was found to be very high, suggesting there is extensive genetic diversity available for peach cultivar and rootstock breeding programs.

AB - The correlation of dehydrogenase isoenzyme profile with plant/tree vigour of twenty genotypes belonging to the genus Prunus and the subgenus Cerasus as well as to four commercial rootstocks (Colt, Gisela 5, Gisela 6 and MaxMa 14) was investigated in this study. Principal component analysis was applied for the classification of the cherry rootstocks based on vigour traits and polymorphism of isoenzymes in order to determine the most useful dehydrogenase enzyme in the preselecting process of cherry rootstocks. The most influential variables which led to the separation of low vigorous genotypes from other genotypes were isocitrate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase and phosphogluconate dehydrogenase. Since both significant and negative correlations were observed between tree vigour and malate dehydrogenase, as well as between tree vigour and phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, those systems can be used for early selection of low vigour rootstocks. Our results suggest that the association between low vigour and malate dehydrogenase genotype ab provides a convenient marker that can be characterised even at the seedling stage, and could be applied in early rootstock selection and breeding programmes.

AB - The paper presents results of a study conducted in Surduk during 2014-2016, in almond orchard that reached full production capacity. The trial included three almond cultivars (‘Troito’, ‘Texas’ and ‘Marcona’) grafted onto two rootstocks (cherry plum seedlings and GF 677). Yield, vigor, and pomological characteristics of nut and kernel were evaluated in order to recommend an appropriate rootstock for commercial almond growing. Generally, the trees onto vegetative rootstock GF 677 had higher yield, were vigorous and had higher values of most of studied characteristics than the trees grafted onto generative rootstock. Within the studied cultivars, ‘Texas’ showed the highest values for fruit weight and ratio, while ‘Marcona’ showed the lowest values. On the basis of the results we can recommend GF 677 as suitable rootstock for orchards with standard planting distance (500 trees per hectare), without irrigation, so as for soils containing higher level of lime.

High-density orchard (2,800 trees ha(-1)) was established by planting vineyard peach seedlings at a 3.5 x 1 m spacing. Grafting was performed at a height of 50 cm. The central leader was bent at the angle of 65 degrees. The standard experimental plot was planted with nursery trees and two training systems: Fusetto (4x2 m) and Open Vase (4x4 m) were applied. The influence of three different training systems on fruit characteristics of three peach cultivars:. Early O'Henry',. Sunprince', and. Autumn Glo', and two nectarine cultivars:. Stark Redgold' and 'Max 7' was studied during the three-year period (20092011). A small tree spacing reduced fruit size of peach cultivars 'Early O'Henry' and 'Sunprince' and nectarine cultivar 'Max 7'. Unlike, in 'Autumn Glo' and. Stark Redgold' differences in fruit size between training systems were not significant.

AB - The goal of this study was to examine the variability and correlation between vigor, yield and fruit quality components in 'Oblacinska' sour cherry. Plant material used in this trial comprised of 41 genotypes, while the experiment was done in three consecutive years. An important diversity has been found in the set of evaluated genotypes and significant differences were found among them in most traits studied. Observed differences between years of study for almost all examined traits, indicate a high influence of environmental conditions on these parameters. Also, significant positive or negative correlation were found between some properties. Principal component analysis (PCA) analysis suggested that leaf dimension, fruit weight, yield efficiency, vigor and fruit set could be sufficient for determination of genotypes. Cluster analysis (CA) grouped genotypes in two main clusters, with numerous sub-clusters. Genotypes with low tree growth and high yield potential were proved to be interesting for following breeding programs and cultivation.

abstract = "The goal of this study was to examine the variability and correlation between vigor, yield and fruit quality components in 'Oblacinska' sour cherry. Genotypes with low tree growth and high yield potential were proved to be interesting for following breeding programs and cultivation.",

AB - The 'Oblacinska' sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) is an autochthonous and heterogeneous cultivar showing high variability in traits related to the composition of fruiting twigs. The differences observed between fruits and leaves not only among different clones but between different fruiting branches show that there is variability for some physical parameters among the fruits and leaves of the same tree which later affects productivity level. So, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of the type of the fruiting branch (spurs and shoots) on fruit and leaf traits. Plant material used in this trial comprised of 13 'Oblacinska' sour cherry genotypes. The experiment was carried out in a four-year period. All studied traits were highly genotype and year dependent. The effect of the fruiting branch was found to be highly significant for stone weight and leaf size and leaf area, but not for fruit and chemical traits. Correlation analysis showed that studied traits are not correlated in the same way comparing spurs and shoot. The highest mismatch in the coefficient of correlation was found between chemical properties.

AB - The paper presents how different rootstocks and the 'Oblacinska' sour cherry as an interstock affect the vigor, fruit and leaf properties in different sour cherry cultivars. The trial included four rootstocks (Mazzard seedling, Mahaleb seedling, 'Colt' and Mazzard seedling with 'Oblacinska' sour cherry as an interstock) grafted with four sour cherry cultivars ('Meteor Korai', 'Rexelle', 'Heimanns Konservenweichsel' and 'Kelleriis 14'). The variability of most properties, in addition to the genotype of cultivars, was very significantly influenced by rootstocks. Within studied cultivars 'Meteor Korai' had the highest, while 'Kelleriis 14' showed the lowest vigor. At the same time, cultivar 'Kelleriis 14' had the highest fruit weight and largest leaf area. When it comes to the influence of the rootstock, the highest average values of the majority of the studied traits were established on seedling rootstocks, slightly less on the clonal rootstock 'Colt', and the lowest on Mazzard seedling with 'Oblacinska' sour cherry as interstock.

AB - In this research, morphological characterization of vineyard peach collection was conducted. In 78 accessions thirty qualitative traits of tree, flower, leaf, fruit and stone were analysed by using UPOV and ECPGR descriptors. Most of the studied traits showed a high degree of variability. The lowest variability obtained for the leaf traits, and highest for skin and flesh colour. Not only were the accessions sorted into a large number of categories by the most of their properties, but also there was a significant level of variability in the collection, reflecting in the fact that the traits were recombinant in a different way. Principal component analysis (PCA) and a dendrogram were performed to determine relationships among accessions and to obtain information on the usefulness of those characters for the discrimination. The PCA revealed that the first 4 principal components were able to represent 43.1% of total variance. Traits with high discriminating values comprised internal and external fruit colour, flower type and colour, flower bud density and stone shape. The cluster analysis showed that the accessions were placed in three main clusters. The greatest impact on the separation in clusters had fruit over colour and extent of fruit over colour. Moreover, the collection can also comprise some accessions with the preferred recombination of properties that might be interesting for further studies in breeding.

AB - This research was conducted to compare biological and pomological characteristics of 15 almond selections from Serbia with cultivars 'Marcona', 'Texas' and 'Troito'. The evaluation of bloom and harvest times, yields and pomological characteristics of nuts and kernels was done during the five year period (2010-2014) in Surduk (northern Serbia). The earliest bloom time was observed in the selections '15/03' and '23/03' (March 26) and the latest in the cultivar 'Texas' (April 5). The average harvest time was the last week of August or the first week of September. The highest yield tree(-1) was recorded for the cultivars 'Marcona' and 'Texas'. Fruit weight ranged from 3.8 to 6.2 g, kernel weight from 0.6 to 1.3 g, and kernel percentage from 13.4 to 32.3%. On the basis of all observed characteristics, the selections '12/03', '24/03', '25/03', '28/03' and the cultivars 'Troito' and 'Texas' can be recommended for growing in the region of Surduk and considered for growing in other parts of Serbia.

AB - This study was carried out on one-year old sweet cherry trees of ‘Burlat’, ‘Canada Giant’, ‘Hedelfinger’, ‘Summer Sun’ and ‘Sunburst’ grafted on both ‘Colt’ and ‘Gisela 6’ in order to determine their compatibility. For this purpose, peroxidase (PRX) isoenzyme bands were identified by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). Samples of inner bark were taken 12 months after grafting from the following three zones: rootstock, grafting union (which included 5 cm above and below grafting union) and central part of the scion. ‘Hybrid’ zymogram of PRX from grafting union having all bands from both graft partners might indicate compatible grafting combination between ‘Summer Sun’ and ‘Colt’. In all the other cultivar/rootstock combinations, some symptoms of incompatibility can be expected. The results showed that peroxidase activity could be used as a parameter in the early determination of possible graft incompatibility in sweet cherry.

AB - The influence of three different planting densities on yield of three peach cultivars: ‛Early O’
Henry’, ‛Sunprince’, and ‛Autumn Glo’, and two nectarine cultivars: ‘Vinčanka’ (clone of
‛Stark Redgold’) and ‛Max 7’ was studied during three-year period (2009-2011). In high
density planting, seedlings of vineyard peach were planted at the space of 3.5 x 1 m (2,800
trees ha-1) and grafted at the height of 50 cm. The trees were trained as a new original training
system named ‘Sloping Leader’ that is characterized with a central leader that is bent and
follows row direction at an angle of 25° to the trunk. In standard experimental plot, one-year
old peach trees were planted and trained as ‘Fusetto’ form (4 x 2 m; 1,250 trees ha-1) and
Open Vase (4 x 4 m, 625 trees ha-1). The following characteristics were studied: yield per tree
and unit area (ha), as well as yield efficiency based on trunk cross-sectional area and on
crown projection area. In the first three years of cropping significantly higher yields were
achieved in the high-density planting system. Yield efficiency expressed based on the crown
projection area, was also significantly higher in the high-density planting system.

AB - To obtain high yields there should be high flower density and fruit set in sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) production. Furthermore, in order to ensure successful fertilization, there should be satisfactory stigma receptivity, rapid pollen tube growth along the style, as well as adequate ovule longevity. This manuscript presents the study of the effective pollination period (EPP) of four 'Oblacinska' sour cherry clones (II/2, III/9, XI/3 and XIII/1) that differs in pollen germination, fruit set and yields. In order to estimate EPP, pollination was conducted in six different stages of flower development: balloon stage, 2 d before anthesis (-2), at anthesis (0), and 2, 4, 6 and 8 d after anthesis (DAA). The initial (IFS) and final fruit set (FFS) were recorded under the field conditions. Alongside with this, the rate of pollen tubes growth in the style was observed with fluorescent microscopy. The experimental design was completely randomized, a two-factorial analysis of variance was carried out and individual testing was performed using LSD test (p lt = 0.05; p lt = 0.01). The experiment was set in triplicates. Regarding FFS, clones II/2 and III/9 showed the best results (p lt = 0.01) in 4 and 6 DAA. The number of pollen tubes in the style of the pistil decreased with subsequent terms of pollination, while its number in the ovule increased up to sixth day after pollination, followed by a decline. Clones II/2 and III/9 showed EPP which lasted from 6 to 8 d, while EPP found in clone XI/3, lasted only 2 d. It is concluded that only clone having long EPP should be used as parents for creating new sour cherry cultivars.

AB - Ground raw kernels of almond genotypes were selected in northern Serbia, analysed for oil and crude protein content and compared with commercial cultivars 'Troito', 'Texas' and 'Marcona'. The samples were collected in an experimental orchard in Surduk locality. Oil content was determined by using NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) analyser, while protein content was determined by using the Kjeldahl method. The results showed a significant variation between the genotypes and the cultivars. The selections had oil content ranging from 47.27 to 53.61%, while oil content in the cultivars varied from 52.33 to 55.64%. The lowest crude protein content was 19.85% (01/03) and the highest was 29.18% (29/03). The obtained values indicate that the selected genotypes (with the exception of B/04) had less oil, while the 12 out of the 15 selected genotypes were richer in proteins compared with the commercial cultivars. The most interesting genotype was 24/03, having a high quality of kernel (51.33% of oil and 26.12% of crude proteins).

Vinčanka (klon sorte Stark Redgold kasnijeg vremena zrenja), Orion, Morsiani 51 i Vega.
bujnosti, prinos, masa i organoleptičke osobine ploda u trogodišnjem periodu. U trećoj godini
rodnosti sorte Venus, Vinčanka i Orion su postigle visoke prinose. Manji razmak sadnje je
ispoljio negativan uticaj na masu ploda sorti Vega i Max 7, dok su plodovi ostalih sorata bili
u kategoriji krupnih plodova. Sistem guste sadnje nije ispoljio negativan efekat na
organoleptičke osobine plodova ispitivanih sorata.
AB - The influence of high density planting on the properties of five nectarine
cultivars: Venus, Vinčanka (clone of Stark Redgold with later ripening), Orion,
Morsiani 51, and Vega, was studied. In high density planting, seedlings of vineyard
peach were planted at 3.5 x 1m (2800 trees ha-1) and grafted at the height of 50 cm
above ground level. The trees were trained as the Sloping Leader. That is new
training system characterized by central leader bended at an angle of 25° with respect
to an imaginary vertical axis. The following characteristics were studied: tree vigour,
yield, fruit weight, and sensory properties for three consecutive years. A small row
spacing had negative influence on yield and fruit weight of nectarine cultivars
Morsiani 51 and Vega. High-density planting system did not show negative effects
on fruit sensory characteristics.
Based on obtained results, studied cultivars can be divided into two groups.
The first group consists of cultivars Venus, Orion, and Vinčanka that are suitable for
this system of high density planting. The second group consists of cultivars Vega and
Morsiani 51, that are less suitable for this system. Further long-term study is required
to obtain more reliable conclusions.
