AB - The experiments were conducted in four locations in Serbia: Valjevo, Kucevo, Nova Pazova and Surduk in 2012 and 2013. A working hypothesis that growing conditions would not affect the rutin content in buckwheat leaves was set up. The content of rutin in leaves of buckwheat was determined by the HPLC/DAD technique, using the external standard calibration method. Out of the basic biometric parameters, average value, variance, and the variation coefficient were estimated. Results were processed by the analysis of variance for the factorial experiment. The analysis of variance showed existence of significant differences in the rutin content, over locations, but only in the first year of testing. The average content of rutin in the first and the second year was 3.30% and 2.61%, respectively, and in both years of testing it amounted on average to 2.82%. The variation in the rutin content was larger in the second year of testing. On the other hand, this variation was lower in the first year (5.3-29.0%) in comparison to the second year (16.2-28.6%). Relatively lower rutin contents were recorded in samples collected at lower-altitude locations.

AB - The aim of this work was to analyse the kinetics and microstructure evolution of ZnO sintering process. ZnO powder was isothermally sintered (15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min) in the temperature range from 8000C to 12000C. The values of Lenel parameter were calculated and used for the analysis of the densification and mass transport processes. Using scanning electron microscopy the analysis of the microstructure evolution and dependence of the average grain size with temperature and time of sintering was obtained. The results of this research could enable development of a new phenomenological equations in the analyses of ZnO-based materials sintering kinetics.

AB - Lavender, anise, chamomile, fennel, geranium, oregano, parsley, and sage essential oils were tested for their effectiveness against mushroom pathogens: Verticillium fungicola var. fungicola, Mycogone perniciosa, and Cladobotryum sp. Isolates were exposed to the volatile phase of the oils and then ventilated in order to determine if the effect of the oil was lethal to the pathogen. Oregano and geranium oils were the most toxic, having a fungicidal effect at 0.02-0.08 μl/ml of air, depending on the pathogen. Oregano oil was characterized by high content of carvacrol and thymol, while citranelol and geraniol were the main components of geranium oil.

AB - In five indigenous populations of Thymus glabrescens Willd. collected in the region of Banat (Serbia), the variability on leaf morphological traits, leaf and stem anatomy, and composition of the essential oil was studied. The major component in the studied populations was either thymol or γ-terpinene. Distinct differentiation of populations with respect to chemical composition of essential oils might be related to spatial distribution of the studied populations. No correlations between morphology, anatomy, and essential oil yield and composition were determined. Both capitate and peltate glandular trichomes were found on calyces, whereas the latter were noticed on the abaxial and adaxial leaf surface.
AB - U pet autohtonih populacija Thymus glabrescens Willd. sakupljenih u regionu Banata, Srbija, ispitivana je varijabilnost morfoloških karakteristika lista, anatomske građe lista i stabla i sastava etarskih ulja. Glavne komponente etarskih ulja proučavanih populacija bile su timol, γ-terpinen i p-cimen.

AB - The influence of the different doses of selenium (Se) on the yield and quality of chamomile [Chamomilla recutita (L.) Rausch.] was investigated. Special attention was paid to the essential oil content, as well as to the mutual relationship between some of the oil components (chamazulene, bisabolol, bisabolol oxide). Se was applied by foliar spraying, ten days before the harvest, as the Na2SeO4 solution, in the following doses: 0, 100 and 500 g Se/ha. It was found that the applied doses of Se did not influence the formation of dry chamomile flowers yield. Also, the influence of Se on the content of essential oil was not observed (average oil content in all treatments was 0.33%). However, the applied Se caused the significant increase of the content of bisabolol oxide A and B, followed by the decrease of the chamazulene content in the chamomile essential oil. Beside that, significant increase of Se content in the chamomile flowers (12.9 to 53.6 ppm) has also been observed.
