The assessment of genetic potential in performance tested gilts by means of selection indexes method

AB  - The objective of this research paper was to make an assessment of breeding value of performance tested gilts of Swedish Landrace and F-1 crossbreds of Swedish Landrace and Great Yorkshire by the method of selection index. The traits on whose basis the breeding value was estimated were: daily liveweight gain, average backfat thickness measured at two sites and carcass meat percentage. These traits were corrected for body mass of 100kg by the method of base indexes and the following average values were determined: corrected daily liveweight gain (KZDP) 408.93g/day, corrected average backfat thickness measured at two sites (KSL) 9.77mm and corrected carcass meat percentage (KPM) 61.08%. Studying the effect of genotype, year and birth season of gilts a statistically significant variation (P>0.05) of these traits provoked by the mentioned factors was not determined while the gilts sire statistically highly significantly (P lt 0.001) influenced all studied traits. Heritability coefficients were: h(2)= 0.255 for KZDP, h(2)= 0.356 for KSL and h(2)= 0.349 for KPM. The four selection index equations were constructed among which as the most optimal was chosen the one which includes all three traits (KZDP, KSL and KPM) and whose coefficient of the correlation of selection index and aggregate genotype was r(IAG) = 0.594.

Variability of libido and properties of boar ejaculate

AB  - The main objective of this study was to assess the variability of libido (duration of preparing to jump, T), the duration of ejaculation (E) and the properties of ejaculate: ejaculate volume (VOL), evaluation of density of ejaculate (DEN), evaluation of native sperm motility (NAT), evaluation of diluted sperm motility (DIL), as well as the number of doses produced per ejaculate (NPD) of boars reared under production conditions. The study included 8127 ejaculates of boars of the three breeds. Ejaculates were analysed during four annual seasons. Evaluation of variance was performed using mixed model. Average values of T, E, VOL, DEN, NAT, DIL and NPD were: 3.56 min, 6.09 min, 235.82 ml, 2.03, 3.98, 3.95 and 9.90 doses. Libido, ejaculation duration and characteristics of ejaculates varied under the influence of season, year, breed. All studied traits depended on the age of the boar when taking the ejaculate (P lt 0.001) except T and DEN (P>0.05). Differences in phenotypic property values were present between boars and between ejaculates and repeatability coefficient values for all studied traits ranged from 0.08 +/- 0.01 to 0.32 +/- 0.05. The association of the investigated boar traits was weak to strong (from -0.14 to 0.81; P lt 0.01 and P lt 0.001), with the exception of the association between T and NPD (P>0.05).

Fatty acid profiles, chemical content and sensory properties of traditional fermented dry kulen sausages

AB  - In this paper, the comparative investigations on chemical content, fatty acid profiles and sensory properties of traditional fermented dry kulen sausages are presented. Five types of kulen sausages were made, which varied depending on the percentage of meat and fat derived from different pig breeds: autochthonous (Mangalitsa and Moravka) and commercial (Swedish Landrace). Kulen sausages made from Mangalitsa and Moravka pork meat had the lowest moisture and protein content and the highest total amount of fat. Sausages made from the combination of Mangalitsa and Moravka meat were superior in terms of odor, taste, aftertaste and overall acceptability. The highest cholesterol content was found in sausages made from meat of the autochthonous pig breeds. However, sausages made from the meat of Mangalitsa pigs contained higher levels of monounsaturated fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid, and lower saturated fatty acid levels. This research indicates that pig breed affects the chemical and sensory characteristics of traditional dry fermented sausages.

Fatty acid profile of m. longissimus dorsi of Mangalitsa and Moravka pig breeds

AB  - The objective of this study was to determine the chemical composition and fatty acid content in m. longissimus dorsi (MLD) of two indigenous pig breeds (ML - Swallow-belly Mangalitsa and M - Moravka) reared in free range farm conditions and fed complete mixtures used for commercial meat pig genotypes. The body mass of ML and M pigs at slaughter was, on average, 107.14 and 107.61 kg, respectively. In MLD of M pigs, more total fat was measured compared to ML breed (6.96 % compared to 5.10 %, P lt 0.05). Protein content in MLD of ML pigs was higher by +0.92 % (P lt 0.01) compared to M pigs. Male castrates of M pigs had more fat compared to gilts of the same breed (8.64 compared to 5.29 %), and the 3.35 % difference between mean values was statistically significant (P lt 0.05). The breed of pigs influenced the total saturated fatty acids (P=0.011) and mono-unsaturated fatty acid (P=0.003) contents, but not the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (P=0.325). In the case of saturated fatty acids in the MLD of ML and M pigs, the most common were C16:0 (25.05 % and 25.53 %) and C18:0 (12.73 % and 14.40 %). The MLD of M pigs contained 1.67 % more stearic acid compared to ML pigs (P=0.004). Pigs of ML, compared to M pigs, had more C18:1cis-9 (+2.31 %), C16:1 (+0.49 %), C17:1 (+0.10 %) and less C20:1cis-11 (-0.25 %). The content of two essential fatty acids, C18:2n-6 and C18:3n-3, did not vary according to breed or sex of pigs (P>0.05). The n-6/n-3 ratio was higher than optimal (18.7 for breed ML and 13.7 for M).

Heritability, phenotypic and genetic correlations of the growth intensity and meat yield of pigs

AB  - The five year study included two genotypes of gilts of performance tested gilts, Swedish landrace and crosses F1 generation SLxLY. Of total number (n=3600), 1709 animals were genotype SL and 1891 animals were genotype SLxLY. Measuring of back fat thickness in the loin part (FT1), between 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae, 7cm laterally to the back line; back fat thickness (FT2) and depth of the musculus longissimus dorsi (MLD) between the 3rd and 4th rib from the rear, 7cm laterally to the back line. Assessment of meat yield was done using the ultrasonograph apparatus Piglog 105. In regard to meat yield indicators, medium heritability values were established for FT1 h2=0.461, and high values for FT2 h2=0.639, and for meat yield h2=0.633. Low heritability was established for depth of MLD (h2=0.105), life daily gain (h2=0.110) and age at the end of test (h2=0.103). Established phenotypic correlations between fat thickness FT1 and FT2 were strong (rp=0.638); between fat thickness and meat yield very strong (rp=-0.880 to -0.895), and between fat thickness and MLD very weak and negative (rg=-0.103 to -0.216). Genetic correlations were stronger than phenotypic, so between fat thickness FT1 and FT2 the correlation was complete/full (rg=0.930), also between fat thickness and meat yield (rg=-0.979 to -0.982), whereas the correlation between fat thickness and MLD was strong and negative (rg=-0.627 to -0.653). Heritability values for fat thickness and meat yield show that these traits have high level of heritability and are transfered to the progeny, whereas the level and strength of their dependance show that by decreasing the fat thickness positive influences is exhibited on meat yield, and that by increasing of depth of MLD also the meat yield is increased.
AB  - Petogodišnjim istraživanjem su bila obuhvaćena dva genotipa nazimica švedski landras i melezi F1 generacije ŠLxVJ. Od ukupnog broja (n=3600) istraživanjem je obuhvaćeno 1709 grla genotipa ŠL i 1891 grla genotipa ŠLxVJ. Merenje debljine leđne slanine i dubine musculus longissimus dorsi (MLD) i procena mesnatosti je obavljeno ultrazvučnim aparatom Piglog 105. Za pokazatelje mesnatosti utvrđeni su srednji heritabiliteti za SL1 h2=0,461, a visoki za SL2 h2=0,639, i za mesnatost h2=0,633. Nizak heritabilitet utvrđen je za dubinu MLD-a (h2=0,105), životni dnevni prirast (h2=0,110) i za uzrast (h2=0,103). Utvrđene fenotipske korelacije između debljine slanine SL1 i SL2 su jake (rp=0,638); između debljine slanine i mesnatosti korelacije su vrlo jake (rp=-0,880 do -0,895), dok su između debljine slanine i MLD-a jako slabe i negativne (rg=-0,103 do -0,216). Genetske korelacije su jače od fenotipskih, tako da je između debljine slanine korelacija potpuna (rg=0,930), kao i između debljine slanine i mesnatosti (rg=-0,979 do -0,982), dok je korelacija jaka i negativna između debljine slanine i MLD-a (rg=-0,627 do -0,653). Heritability values for fat thickness and meat yield show that these traits have high level of heritability and are transfered to the progeny, whereas the level and strength of their dependance show that by decreasing the fat thickness positive influences is exhibited on meat yield, and that by increasing of depth of MLD also the meat yield is increased., Petogodišnjim istraživanjem su bila obuhvaćena dva genotipa nazimica švedski landras i melezi F1 generacije ŠLxVJ. Od ukupnog broja (n=3600) istraživanjem je obuhvaćeno 1709 grla genotipa ŠL i 1891 grla genotipa ŠLxVJ. Merenje debljine leđne slanine i dubine musculus longissimus dorsi (MLD) i procena mesnatosti je obavljeno ultrazvučnim aparatom Piglog 105. Za pokazatelje mesnatosti utvrđeni su srednji heritabiliteti za SL1 h2=0,461, a visoki za SL2 h2=0,639, i za mesnatost h2=0,633. Nizak heritabilitet utvrđen je za dubinu MLD-a (h2=0,105), životni dnevni prirast (h2=0,110) i za uzrast (h2=0,103). Utvrđene fenotipske korelacije između debljine slanine SL1 i SL2 su jake (rp=0,638); između debljine slanine i mesnatosti korelacije su vrlo jake (rp=-0,880 do -0,895), dok su između debljine slanine i MLD-a jako slabe i negativne (rg=-0,103 do -0,216). Genetske korelacije su jače od fenotipskih, tako da je između debljine slanine korelacija potpuna (rg=0,930), kao i između debljine slanine i mesnatosti (rg=-0,979 do -0,982), dok je korelacija jaka i negativna između debljine slanine i MLD-a (rg=-0,627 do -0,653). The volume of ejaculate varied under the influence of boar age (p lt 0.001) and season (p lt 0.01). The effect of I on VOL and MO was not significant (p>0.05). Traits VOL and MO varied (p lt 0.001) between boars which indicated the need for individual control of each of boars used for artificial insemination. The highest VOL was determined in boars at the age of 26 to 29 months, and the difference to the boars aged 10-13 months was 62.70 ml (p lt 0.001). No statistically significant differences in regard toVOL between boars older than 17 months (from class 3 to 6) were recorded. The highest differences between winter and spring period were determined in mean values of VOL (32.15 ml; p lt 0.01). In the winter period, boar ejaculate volume was lower than in the autumn (-26.57 ml) and the difference determined was statistically significant (p lt 0.05).
AB  - Osnovni cilj istraživanja bio je da se oceni uticaj starosti (A) i intenziteta korišćenja nerasta (I) na fenotipsku varijabilnost volumena ejakulata (VOL) i pokretljivosti spermatozoida (MO). Istraživanjem je bilo obuhvaćeno 274 ejakulata nerasta rase veliki jorkšir (LW). Nerasti su prema starosti kada je uzet ejakulat podeljeni u šest klasa (10-13, 14-17, 18-21, 22-25, 26-29 i ≥30 meseci). U zimskom periodu volumen ejakulata nerasta bio je manji nego u toku jeseni (-26,57 ml) i utvrdjena razlika je bila statistički značajna (p lt 0,05).

The effect of breed, boar and season on some properties of sperm

AB  - The main objective of this study was to assess the phenotypic variability of the ejaculate volume (VOL) and progressive sperm motility (MO) under the influence of breed, boar within breed and season. The study included 555 ejaculates of Danish Landrace (DL), Danish Large White (DLW) and Danish Duroc (DD) boars. The effect of boar was analyzed within the investigated breeds. The impact of the season was investigated as the influence of the month in which the ejaculate was taken. The model included a linear regression effect of boar age when the semen was taken. Data analysis was performed using the statistical package SAS 9.1.3 (SAS Inst. Inc.., 2002-2003). Impact assessment was carried out using the GLM procedure. The impact of all factors analyzed in both sperm traits was significant to highly significant, and the observed factors largely explain the phenotypic variability VOL compared to MO. The highest values were found in VOL of DL boar (3:58 ± 164.96 ml), and the MO of boar breed DLW (85.45 ± 0.94%). Boars DD had VOL and MO below the averages of all analyzed breeds. Between boars within studied genotypes differences were established (p  lt 0.05, p  lt 0.05, p  lt 0.01 p  lt 0.001) and a boar of DLW breed compared to all tested boars had the highest volume of ejaculate sperm with progressive motility of 90.47%. Volume, or mobility varied (p  lt 0.01 or p  lt 0.05) influenced by season, and in September and October boars had ejaculates with the VOL values above average and the lowest MO. Since most VOL and MO above the annual average in June, it was possible to get the highest number of doses per ejaculate with optimal reproductive/fertile ability.

Heritability and connections of sow fertility traits

AB  - Purpose of this paper was to determine fertility traits heritability coefficients of the sows (number of live born, total number of born, stillborn and reared piglets in the litter) and interconnections between these traits. Heritability coefficients were low and averaged in interval from h2 = 0,056 for number of reared piglets in litter to h2 = 0,142 for total number of born piglets in litter, which is in accordance with heritability values for reproductive traits. Genetic interconnections of these traits had wide variation interval and averaged from r = - 0,221 between number of still born and reared piglets in litter to r = 0,947 between total number of born and number of live born piglets in litter. Coefficients of phenotype correlation varied in interval from r = -0,162 between number of still born and number of live born piglets in litter to r = 0,909 between total number of born and number of live born piglets in litter.
AB  - Cilj rada bio je da se utvrde koeficijenti naslednosti osobina plodnosti krmača (broj živorođene, ukupno rođene, mrtvorođene i odgajene prasadi u leglu) i međusobna povezanost ovih osobina. Koeficijenti heritabiliteta su bili niski i kretali su se u intervalu od h2 = 0,056 za broj odgajene prasadi u leglu do h2 = 0,142 za broj ukupno rođene prasadi u leglu, što je u skladu sa vrednostima heritabiliteta za reproduktivne osobine. Genetska povezanost ovih osobina imala je širok interval variranja i kretala se od r = -0,221 između broja mrtvorođene i broja odgajene prasadi u leglu, do r = 0,947 između broja ukupno rođene i broja živorođene prasadi u leglu. AB  - The objective of this paper is to investigate variability in chemical composition, total fatty acid and cholesterol content in m. longissimus dorsi (MLD) of Mangalitsa, swallow-belly (LM) and white (BM), and Swedish Landrace pigs (SL). Compared to SL, the total fat content has been 14.2% higher in BM, while it has been 10.2% higher in LM. SL fatteners contained significantly less cholesterol in MLD compared to LM and BM (-13.6 and -14.8%, P  lt = 0.05). A higher percentage of SFA (+8.5 and +10.1%, P  lt = 0.05) and PUFA (+8.0 and +9.4%, P  lt = 0.05) has been established in MLD, originating from SL fatteners, compared to both Mangalitsa strains. The total MUFA content was higher in LM and BM than in SL (P  lt = 0.05). A phenotypic correlation between protein content and ashes with water content in MLD has been positive (0.81 and 0.88), while the correlation between water content and total fats has been found to be negative (-0.99). A negative phenotypic correlation between MUFA and SFA, as well as PUFA and MUFA (-0.97 and -0.98) has been established, statistically significant at the level of P  lt = 0.001. A positive phenotypic correlation between PUFA and SFA (0.90), statistically significant at the level of P  lt = 0.001, has been found.

Heritability and correlation of litter traits in pigs determined by REML method

AB  - The aim of this study was to determine the heritability coefficients and the correlation between the number of live born piglets (NBA), the number of stillborn piglets (NSB), the number of total born piglets (NTB) and the number of weaned piglets (NW) in the part of population in Swedish Landrace sows in R. Serbia. The results obtained should enable the selection of litter size traits that would be proposed to be included in the selection - breeding program for this breed. The analysis of parameters was carried out on the basis of data on fertility of 4.061 Swedish Landrace sows and their 15.209 litters realized on two pig farms in R. Serbia. There was a genetic relationship between animals among the farms. Components of variance and covariance of observed traits, the share of additive genetic variance component in the phenotypic and correlation of traits at phenotypic and genetic levels, were evaluated using the method of Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML) using the Multitrait Model (MM). Heritability estimates for the NBA, NSB, NTB and NW amounted to 6.4, 1.6, 6.7 and 1.1%, respectively. Correlation between the NBA and NTB at the phenotypic and genetic level was complete (rP = 0986, rG = 0938). Correlation between the NBA and NW at the phenotypic level has not been established, while at the genetic level it was weak. We believe that this is the result of the procedure of equalizing of litters after farrowing. In order to obtain objective genetic parameters for NW this procedure should not be applied in pure breed sows.
AB  - Cilj istraživanja bio je da se utvrde koeficijenti naslednosti i povezanosti između broja živorođene prasadi (NBA), broja mrtvorođene prasadi (NSB), broja ukupno rođene prasadi (NTB) i broja odgajene prasadi (NW) u delu populacije krmača rase švedski landras u R. Srbiji. Dobijeni rezultati treba da omoguće izbor osobina veličine legla koje bi bile predložene za uključivanje u selekcijsko - odgajivački program za ovu rasu. Ocena analiziranih parametara sprovedena je na osnovu podataka o plodnosti 4061 krmača rase švedski landras i njihovih 15209 legala ostvarenih na dve farme svinja u R. Srbiji između kojih postoji genetska povezanost među životinjama. Komponente varijanse i kovarijanse posmatranih osobina, udeo aditivne genetske komponente varijanse u fenotipskoj i povezanost osobina na fenotipskom i genetskom nivou ocenjene su metodom ograničene najveće verovatnoće (REML - Restricted Maximum Likelihood) primenom višeosobinskog modela (MM - Multitrait Model). Heritabiliteti za NBA, NSB, NTB i NW su iznosili 6.4, 1.6, 6.7 i 1.1 %, respectively. Povezanost NBA i NTB na fenotipskom i na genetskom nivou je bila potpuna (rP = 0.986, rG = 0.938). Povezanost NBA i NW na fenotipskom nivou nije utvrđena, dok je na genetskom bila slaba. Smatramo da je to posledica postupka ujednačavanja legala posle prašenja. Radi dobijanja objektivnih genetskih parametara za NW ovaj postupak ne treba primenjivati kod čistorasnih krmača.

AB  - Objective of the paper was to investigate the effect of sire breed and sex of their progeny as well as to study methods for assessment of carcass side quality. Quality of carcass of the progeny was determined according to Rulebook (1985) and share of meat on left carcass sides determined by dissection according to methodology recommended by EU (Commission Regulation EC No 3127/94 and Commission regulation EC No 1197/06) on 84 pigs-progeny of investigated sires. Animals investigated in this study were descendants of dams of F1 genotype Swedish Landrace x Large White (the first one designated is the dam) and two boars Duroc breed (n=36 progeny) and three boars Pietrain breed (n=48 progeny). Of total number of progeny, 42 animals were male castrates and 42 animals were female. It was established that sire breed influences (P lt 0.01) only the fat thickness on the rump (BFTR), whereas sires of Duroc breed influenced (P lt 0.05 to P lt 0.001) pre-slaughter mass (PSM), fat thickness in the middle of the back (BFT), share of meat in carcass sides EC No 3127/94 (EC 94) and share of meat in carcass sides EC No 1197/06 (EC 06). Sires within Pietrain breed exhibited effect on (P lt 0.05 to P lt 0.001) BFTR, EC 94 and EC 06. All investigated traits were influenced by sex (gender) (P lt 0.05 and P lt 0.001) except PSM, whereas the effect of genotype (P lt 0.001) was present only on PSM. Season of birth influenced only EC 94 and EC 06 (P lt 0.001). By implementation of new methods of assessment of meatiness (EC 94 and EC 06) was determined to have a higher proportion of meat (13.33% respectively 16.46%) relation to the Rulebook (1985).
AB  - Predmet istraživanja ove studije je utvrđivanje uticaj rase očeva, očeva, genotipa, pola i sezone rođenja na fenotipsku i genetsku varijabilnost pojedinih osobina kvaliteta polutki trorasnih hibrida. Utvrđeno je da između očeva dve rase (durok : pijetren) postoji mala razlika za procenjenu mesnatost (+0.53% JUS 85; - 1.33% EC 94 i -0.13% EC 06) potomaka koja nije statistički značajna (P>0.05). Posmatrajući očeve unutar rase durok utvrđena razlika između očeva br. 1 i 2 za procenjenu mesnatost potomaka EC 06 iznosila je 5.12% (P lt 0.05). Veća razlika (od 5.58%; P lt 0.01) za procenjenu mesnatost EC 06 utvrđena je između potomaka oca br. 3 i 4 rase pijetren. Između ispitivanih trorasnih genotipova nisu utvrđene statistički značajne razlike (P>0.05) za debljinu slanine i procenjenu mesnatost. Ženska grla su imala tanje slanine (-2.5 mm BFT i -1.37 mm BFTR) u odnosu na muška kastrirana grla samim tim imala su veće vrednosti za procenjenu mesnatost (+0.63% JUS 85; +2.66% EC 94 i +2.65% EC 06). Potomci ispitivanih očeva koji su rođeni u jesen imali su veću procenjenu mesnatost (+0.6% JUS 85; +5.07% EC 94 i +5.83% EC 06) i tanju slaninu (-1.54 mm BFT i -2.05 mm BFTR) u odnosu na grla koja su rođena u proleće. Sezona rođenja uticala je (P lt 0.001) na procenjenu mesnatost EC 94 i EC 06.

The effect of various factors on traits of performance tested gilts

AB  - Objective of this research wasto determine the effect of sire breed, genotype of the animal, farm and year on traits of performance tested gilts: age at the end of test (AET), life daily gain (LDG), fat thickenss 1 and 2 (FTL1 and FTL2) and depth of back muscle (MLD). Research included three farms during four consecutive years, and total of 4274 gilts were tested which derivied from 52 boar sires. Sires were pure breeds: Swedish landrace (SL, n=14), Large Yorkshire (LY, n=29), Pietrain (P, n=6) and Durroc (D, n=3), and their daughters belonged to following genotypes: Swedish landrace, large Yorkshire, Pietrain, Duroc, F1 crosses LY×SL, SL×LY and D×SL. It was established that sire breed, genotype of gilts and year had statistically significant (P lt 0,01 and P lt 0,001) effect on all traits, only the effect of the farm on depth of MLD (P>0,05) wasn't registered. Sires within the breed had no effect on depth of MLD (P>0,05), where in case of sires within the Pietrain breed no effect on traits AET, FTL1 and FTL2 were observed and in case of sires within Duroc breed on AET, and for other traits the effect (P lt 0,05 and P lt 0,001) of sires within the breed was determined. All traits of gilts depended statistically highly significantly (P lt 0,001) on body mass at the end of the test, except depth of back muscle.
AB  - Cilj ovog istraživanja je da se utvrdi uticaj rase oca, oca unutar rase, genotipa grla, farme i godine na osobine performans testiranih nazimica: uzrast na kraju testa (UKT), životni dnevni prirast (ŽDP), debljina slanine 1 i 2 (DSL1 i DSL2) i dubina leđnog mišića (MLD). Istraživanjem su obuhvaćene tri farme u četiri uzastopne godine, a ukupno je testirano 4274 nazimica koje vode poreklo od 52 oca-nerasta. Očevi pripadaju čistim rasama: švedski landras (ŠL, n=14), veliki jorkšir (VJ, n=29), pijetren (P, n=6) i durok (D, n=3), dok njihove kćeri pripadaju sledećim genotipovima: švedski landras, veliki jorkšir, pijetren, durok, F1 melezi VJ×SL, ŠL×VJ i D׊L. Utvrđeno je da rasa oca, genotip nazimica i godina utiču statistički značajno (P lt 0,01 i P lt 0,001) na sve osobine, dok farma jedino nema uticaja na dubinu MLD (P>0,05). Očevi unutar rase nisu uticali na dubinu MLD (P>0,05), pri čemu za očeve unutar rase pijetren nije utvrđen uticaj ni na osobine UKT, DSL1 i DSL2 kao i za očeve unutar rase durok na UKT, dok je za ostale osobine utvrđen uticaj (P lt 0,05 i P lt 0,001) očeva unutar rase. Sve osobine nazimica su vrlo visoko statistički zavisile (P lt 0,001) od telesne mase na kraju testa osim dubine leđnog mišića.

Composition of carcass sides and quality of meat from Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa reared in two systems

AB  - Objective of this paper was to determine the composition of carcass sides and quality of meat obtained from two groups of fatteners (male castrated pigs) of Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa breed. First group was reared in an open system (SO, n=13) and the other group in farm conditions with free ranges (SI, n=10). Animals were slaughtered in the same slaughtering facility. Left carcass sides were dissected and percentage of meat (Actual LMP) calculated according to EU reference method (EC, No 1249/2008). Data obtained in the study was analyzed using GLM procedure of the program package SAS 9.1.3 (SAS Inst.Inc., 2002-2003).Average pre slaughter body weight of fatteners was 103.83 ± 10.13 kg. Housing and nutrition system in production of fatteners had statistically highly significant effect (p lt .0001) on pre-slaughter age of fatteners. Statistically significant differences were obtained only in mean values obtained for back fat measured on single location/position - lower back (BFR I) between fatteners of groups SO and SI. Total weight of all individual carcass side parts and weight of relevant muscle tissue, depended on the weight of warm carcass sides (WHC) but not on the housing system (SBF). Carcass sides of fatteners contained in average 35.64 ± 4.39% of muscle tissue (Actual LMP). Meat content in carcass sides (Predicted LMP) was determined according to Rulebook/Pravilnik (1985) for fatty pig breeds and it was 29.67 ± 1.27%. In the musculus longissimus dorsi (MLD) of fatteners reared in closed system, was recorded higher content of water (p=0.0069), lower content of total fats/lipids (p=0.0081) and higher content of ash (p=0.0392) compared to animals from the open system of housing. No statistically significant differences in average protein content (p=0.5940) and pH1 value (p=0.0659) were established between fatteners reared in open and closed system of housing.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je bio da se utvrdi sastav polutki i kvalitet mesa tovljenika (muška kastrirana grla) lasaste mangulice gajenih u dva sistema držanja i ishrane. Ustanovljene su statistički značajne razlike srednjih vrednosti samo debljine slanine izmerene na jednoj poziciji na krstima (BFR I) između tovljenika gajenih u otvorenom i zatvorenom sistemu. Sve linearne mere toplih polutki, osim BFR II i BFR III, zavisile su od mase toplih polutki odnosno mase tovljenika pri klanju. Ukupna masa sva četiri pojedinačna dela polutke i masa mišićnog tkiva u njima, zavisila je od mase toplih polutki ali ne i sistema držanja. U polutkama tovljenika bilo je prosečno 35,64 ± 4,39% mišićnog tkiva (Stvarni MTP). Sadržaj mesa u polutkama prema PRAVILNIKU (1985) (Procenjeni MTP) za masne svinje iznosio je 29,67 ± 1,27%. U MLD tovljenika držanih u zatvorenom sistemu utvrđen je veći sadržaj vode (+2,22%, p=0,0069), manji ukupnih masti (-2,64%, p=0,0081) i veći sadržaj pepela (+0,07%, p=0,0392) nego kod grla iz otvorenog sistema držanja.

The effect of scope of analyzed data on the value of the heritability coefficient of litter size traits in pigs

AB  - Low heritability of pig litter size traits at birth (number of live born piglets - LBP and total born piglets - TBP) and weaning (number of reared piglets - RP) is one of the major problems in their genetic improvement. The effect of selection is directly proportional to trait heritability and inversely proportional to the duration of generation interval. Objective of this study was to establish presence of difference in regard to heritability coefficient values of observed traits, as well as their accuracy depending on the size of data used in the analysis. Heritability coefficients in this study were calculated based on fertility results obtained for Swedish Landrace sows on three pig farms (farms 1, 2 and 3) in the Republic of Serbia. Observed traits - LBP, TBP and RP on farms 1, 2 and 3 were analyzed in the first (2422, 1677 and 2015 litters), in the first two (4190, 2897 and 3377 litters), in the first three (5576, 3809 and 4425 litters) and all available parities (9538, 6340 and 7750 litters) by applying the adequate mixed model of the Least square method. Heritability of LBP calculated based on fertility realized in the first partus ranged from 5.6 to 16.4 %, TBP ranged from 7.0 to 16.8 % and RP ranged from 3.4 to 7.7 %. Introduction into the analysis of the results pertaining to the second, third and subsequent parities lead mainly to detection of lower values of heritability coefficients for observed traits.
AB  - U ovom radu rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da su koeficijenti heritabiliteta BŽP izračunati na osnovu plodnosti ostvarene u prvom prašenju bili u intervalu od 5,6 do 16,4 %, BUP u intervalu od 7,0 do 16,8 % i BOP u intervalu od 3,4 do 7,7 %. Uvođenje u analizu rezultata plodnosti drugog, trećeg i svih ostalih prašenja dovelo je uglavnom do utvrđivanja nižih vrednosti koeficijenata heritabiliteta posmatranih osobina.

The share of tissues in pig carcass sides of autochthonous breeds depending on the body mass and sex

AB  - Objective of this paper was to determine the distribution of tissues in four major carcass side parts from fatteners of Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa and Moravka breeds. The study included 42 animals (male castrated and female pigs) of Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa strain (LM, n=19) and Moravka (M, n=23). Animals were kept and reared in the same farm conditions with free ranges. During fattening, animals were fed two complete mixtures containing 15 and 13% crude proteins. Dissection of left carcass sides and calculation of the meat percentage were carried out according to EU reference method (EC, No.3127/94). Obtained data was processed using GLM procedure of the software package SAS 9.1.3 (SAS Inst.Inc., 2002-2003). Pre-slaughter body mass influenced variation of the mass of warm and cooled carcass sides (P lt .0001). Pre-slaughter body mass of SBM and M had impact on variation of the subcutaneous fat tissue and skin in the thigh and shoulder, and on bone tissue in the shoulder. Fatteners of Moravka breed had higher average mass of back-loin part of the carcass sides (P lt 0.01) and mass of subcutaneous fat tissue including the skin (P lt 0.05) compared to Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa. Share of muscle tissue of this carcass part in total mass of muscle tissue in all four carcass side parts was higher in Moravka breed pigs (+2.18%, P lt 0.01). Male castrated pigs had lower values of average mass of the thigh/leg (P lt 0.05), lower values of muscle tissue mass in the thigh/leg (P lt 0.01) and higher share of bone tissue (P lt 0.05) compared to female pigs. In the belly-rib part, castrates had less intermuscular fat tissue (P lt 0.05) and bone tissue (P lt 0.05) than female pigs.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je bio da se utvrdi udeo tkiva u četiri glavna dela polutki tovljenika lasaste mangulice i moravke u zavisnosti od telesne mase pri klanju i pola grla. Na variranje mase toplih i hladnih polutki uticala je telesna masa pri klanju (P lt .0001). U četiri glavna dela polutki bilo je od 36,02 do 38,59% mišićnog tkiva. Potkožno masno tkivo, koža i intermuskularno masno tkivo činili su od 52,64 do 56,24% mase buta, plećke, leđno-slabinskog i trbušno-rebarnog dela polutke. Telesna masa pri klanju grla rase LM i M je uticala na variranje potkožnog masnog tkiva i kože u butu i plećki i na koštano tkivo u plećki. Tovljenici rase moravka imali su veću prosečnu masu ledjno-slabinskog dela polutki (P lt 0,01) i masu potkožnog masnog tkiva sa kožom (P lt 0,05) od lasaste mangulice. Udeo mišićnog tkiva ovog dela u ukupnoj masi mišićnog tkiva u četiri dela polutki, bio je veći kod grla rase moravka (+2,18%, P lt 0,01). Muška kastrirana grla su imala manju prosečnu masu buta (P lt 0,05), manju masu mišićnog tkiva u butu (P lt 0,01) i veći udeo koštanog tkiva (P lt 0,05) od ženskih grla. The study included 42 animals (male castrated and female pigs) of Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa strain (LM, n=19) and Moravka (M, n=23). Animals were kept and reared in the same farm conditions with free ranges. During fattening, animals were fed two complete mixtures containing 15 and 13% crude proteins. Dissection of left carcass sides and calculation of the meat percentage were carried out according to EU reference method (EC, No.3127/94). Obtained data was processed using GLM procedure of the software package SAS 9.1.3 (SAS Inst.Inc., 2002-2003). Pre-slaughter body mass influenced variation of the mass of warm and cooled carcass sides (P lt .0001). Quality traits of carcass sides and meat of Moravka and Mangalitsa pig breeds

AB  - Objective of this paper was to evaluate phenotypic variability of carcass side traits and quality of meat of fatteners (male castrated heads) of Moravka breed (M) and Mangalitsa (swallow-belly Mangalitsa - LM). The quantity and content of meat were determined based on dissection of left carcass sides (Walstra and Merkus, 1996). Also, nutritive properties of musculus longissimus dorsi (m.l.d.) were established. Obtained data were processed using GLM procedure of the program package SAS 9.1.3 (SAS Inst.Inc., 2002-2003). Results of the study show that Moravka fatteners had longer carcass sides (+6.82 and + 5.00 cm) compared to Mangalitsa breed, corrected to average body weight at slaughtering. Fatteners of M breed had in average higher total mass of back-loin part (+0.685, P lt 0.05) and average quantity of muscles in the same part of carcass side (+0.631 kg, P lt 0.01), compared to fatteners of LM breed. Also, they had higher quantity of muscle in belly-rib part (+0.237 kg, P lt 0.05) compared to LM. Share of muscle tissue in back-loin and belly-rib carcass side parts corrected for WCC, was higher in M carcass sides than in LM (P lt 0.01). Conversely, muscle tissue content in shoulders of Mangalitsa was higher (+4.8% ; P lt 0.05) than in Moravka. Share of muscle tissue in carcass sides of M pigs was by 4.3% higher compared to LM carcass sides. In m.l.d. of Moravka water content was higher (+6.1%, P lt 0.01), content of total lipids (-6.5%, P lt 0.05) and cholesterol (-19.68 mg/100 g, P lt 0.001) was lower than in Mangalitsa.
AB  - Rezultati ispitivanja pokazuju da su tovljenici rase moravka imali duže polutke od rase mangulica, korigovane na prosečnu telesnu masu pri klanju. Tovljenici rase M imali su prosečno veću ukupnu masu leđno-slabinskog dela (P lt 0,05) i prosečnu količinu mišića u istom delu polutki (P lt 0,01), nego rase LM. Takodje, oni su imali i veću količinu mišića u trbušno-rebarnom delu (P lt 0,05) nego LM. Udeo mišićnog tkiva u leđno-slabinskom i trbušno-rebarnom delu korigovan na WCC, bio je veći polutkama M nego kod LM (P lt 0,01). Obrnuto, sadržaj mišićnog tkiva u plećkama mangulice bio je veći nego kod moravke (P lt 0,05). Udeo mišićnog tkiva u polutkama svinja M, bio je za 4,3% veći nego u polutkama LM. The effect of scope of analyzed data on accuracy of selection indices for evaluation of sow breeding value

AB  - Objective of this paper was to establish to what extent the accuracy of constructed selection indices will be changed depending on the scope of analyzed data relating to fertility based on which parameters necessary for construction of selection indices (SI) were established. Fertility results of Swedish Landrace sows obtained on three farms in Republic of Serbia (farms 1, 2 and 3) were analyzed. Parameters necessary for construction of SI were determined by application of different mixed models of the method of Least Squares. For each farm three SI were constructed for evaluation of sow breeding value based on realized fertility in the way that parameters necessary for SI construction were calculated based on fertility results in the first (SI1), first two (SI2) and first three farrowings (SI3). Accuracy of constructed Sis varied within following limits - from low rIH = 0.255 (SI3 for Farm 2) to rIH = 0.405 (SI1 for Farm 3), and only in the case of SI2 for Farm 2 it was in the category of very low (rIH = 0.231). Introduction into analysis of fertility results realized in the second and third farrowing resulted in decrease of accuracy of constructed selection indices.
AB  - U ovom radu rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da je tačnost selekcijskih indeksa konstruisanih na osnovu parametara ocenjenih analizom rezultata plodnosti (BŽP i BOP) ostvarenih na posmatranim farmama bila od rIH = 0.255 (SI3 za Farmu 2) do rIH = 0.405 (SI1 za Farmu 3), a samo je u slučaju SI2 za Farmu 2 bila u kategoriji jako slabe (rIH = 0.231). Povećanje obima analiziranih rezultata plodnosti dovelo je do smanjenja tačnosti SI.

AB  - Objective of this paper was to establish genetic and environmental factors which influence the variation of reproductive parameters in primiparous sows with special focus on how selection on growth traits and lean meat content can influence the fertility in gilts as primiparous sows. Investigation included 1092 primiparous sows of Swedish Landrace breed. Production traits of gilts in direct test were previously adjusted to body weight of 100 kg, and subsequently they were grouped in 4 classes based on standard deviations for each of adjusted production trait. For analysis of data several models of the Least Squares Method were used (Harvey, 1990). Sires influenced the variation of age at first conception, litter size at birth and weaning and period weaning-conception of their daughters (P lt 0.001 to P lt 0.05). Age at first conception, number of live born piglets and total born piglets varied statistically significantly (P lt 0.001 to P lt 0.05) by the influence of adjusted lifetime average daily gain, but not under the influence of adjusted back fat thickness and lean meat content.
AB  - Očevi su uticali na variranje uzrasta pri prvoj oplodnji, veličinu legla pri rođenju i zalučenju i perioda zalučenje-oplodnja svojih kćeri (P lt 0.001 do P lt 0.05). Uzrast pri prvoj oplodnji, broj živorođene i ukupno rođene prasadi su statistički značajno varirali (P lt 0.001 do P lt 0.05) pod uticajem korigovanog prosečnog životnog dnevnog prirasta ali ne i korigovane debljine leđne slanine i mesnatosti.

AB  - Objective of the paper was to investigate the effect of the sire breed (Swedish landrace and Large Yorkshire) and sex (female animals and male castrates) on quality of carcass and pig meat. Established fat thickenss was the highest at withers (33,21 mm) and the thinnest at rump in the center of m. gluteusa medius (18,48 mm). Sire breed had influence (p lt 0,01) on back fat thickness in the central part, whereas sex influenced (p lt 0,05) backfat thickenss at withers. Lean meat of Swedish Landrace progeny established by partial dissection EU was 52,91 % and according to current Regulation 42,89 % and it was higher compared to progeny (SLxLY) whose sires were Large Yorkshire breed. Established difference in share of meat between sire breeds by application of these two methods was 10,02 and 8,83 %. Higher share of meat (EU 53,20 %) was established in female progeny by 2,27 % in comparison to male progeny (p lt 0,05). Also, sire breed influenced (p lt 0,05 and p lt 0,01) pH, water binding capacity, softness and thickenss of muscle fibre, whereas the sex influenced (p lt 0,01) colour of musculus longissimus. Sire breed and sex had no influence on investigated chemical traits of m. longissimus (p>0,05).
AB  - Cilj rada je bio da se ispita uticaj rase oca (švedski landras i veliki jorkšir) i pola (ženski, muški kastrati) na kvalitet trupa i mesa svinja. Utvđena vrednost debljine slanine je bila najveća na grebenu (33,21 mm) a najtanja na krstima na sredini m. gluteusa medius (18,48 mm). Rasa oca je uticala (p lt 0,01) na debljinu slanine na sredini leđa dok je pol uticao (p lt 0,05) na debljinu slanine na grbenu. Mesnatost potomaka švedskog landrasa utvrđena parcijalnom disekcijom EU iznosi 52,91 % a po važećem Pravilniku 42,89 % i veća je u odnosu na potomake (ŠLxVJ) čiji su očevi rase veliki jorkšir. Utvrđena razlika udela mesa između rasa očeva primenom ova dva metoda iznosi 10,02 i 8,83 %. Veći udeo mesa (EU 53,20 %) imali su ženski potomci za 2,27 % u odnosu na muška (p lt 0,05). Takođe, rasa oca je uticala (p lt 0,05 i p lt 0,01) na pH, sposobnost vezivanja vode, mekoću i debljinu mišičnog vlakna dok je pol uticao (p lt 0,01) na boju m. longissimus dorsi. AB  - The effect of sire breed (Swedish landrace and large White), sires within the breed, genotype, sex and season of birth of offspring on age at slaughtering, back fat thickness measured on three points (withers, center of the back and rump), length of carcass side Os pubis-atlas and Os pubis-first rib, yield and share of meat in warm carcass sides of average mass of 81,39 kg, using Yugoslav standards, was investigated. Results obtained show that investigated traits of offspring varied between sire breeds, genotype and sex (P lt 0,01). Sires within Swedish Landrace influenced (P lt 0,01) variation of back fat thickness (center of the back, rump, back+rump), age at slaughtering, length of carcass side Os pubis-atlas and Os pubis-first rib, but no effect was established on yield and share of meat (P>0,05). Sires within Large White breed had no effect on age at slaughtering and length of carcass side (P>0,05), whereas on other traits influence was demonstrated (P lt 0,01 and P lt 0,05). Season of birth had influence in the second model (P lt 0,05) on age at slaughtering and in both models on length of carcass side Os pubis-atlas and Os pubis-first rib (P lt 0,01 and P lt 0,05), whereas on other investigated traits no effect was established (P>0,05). Age, back fat thickness, length of carcass side and yield of meat were dependent on the mass of warm carcass sides.
AB  - Ispitivan je uticaj rase oca (švedski landras i veliki jorkšir), očeva unutar rase, genotipa, pola i sezone rođenja potomaka na uzrast pri klanju, debljinu slanine merene na tri mesta (greben, sredina leđa i krsta), dužine polutke Os pubis-atlas i Os pubis-prvo rebro, prinos i udeo mesa u toplim polutkama prosečne mase 81,39 kg, primenom Jugoslovenskog standarda. Rezultati koji su dobijeni pokazuju da ispitivane osobine potomaka varirale između rase očeva, genotipa i pola (P lt 0,01). Očevi unutar rase švedski landras su uticali (P lt 0,01) na variranje debljine slanine (sredina leđa, krsta, leđa+krsta) i (P lt 0,05) na uzrast pri klanju, dužine polutke Os pubis-atlas i Os pubis-prvo rebro dok na prinos i udeo mesa nije ispoljen uticaj (P>0,05). Fixed part of the model for breeding value estimation in pigs based on litter size

AB  - The goal of this paper was to investigate the effect of various fixed effects on the number of born alive piglets in litter (NBA), based on results of Swedish Landrace sow fertility on three farms in Serbia, in order to determine the best adapted model for assessing genetic parameters and breeding value. Analysis of phenotipic variability of the NBA of Swedish Landrace sows was carried out based on fertility results on three swine farms (A, B and C) in the Republic of Serbia. Data sets encompassed reproduction indicators for 2803 (A), 1826 (B) and 2235 (C) sows, i.e. their 11014, 6757 and 8452 litters, respectively. For this analysis was used fix model of least square method which includes fixed effects of farrowing number, season of conception shown as combination of year and month, litter genotype, duration of previous period from weaning to conception, effect of sow age at farrowing like quadratic regression nested within farrowing number and linear regression influence of duration of previous lactation. The average NBA was within the interval from 9.13 (A) to 9.76 piglets (B and C). The monitored trait statistically highly significantly (p lt 0.001) varied under the effect of all systematic factors encompassed by the applied model, regardless of the source of analyzed data, Only the linear regression effect of duration of previous lactation for farm B was assessed as having lower statistical significance (p lt 0.05).
AB  - Cilj ovoga rada bio je da se ispita uticaj različitih sistematskih faktora na variranje broja živorođene prasadi u leglu (BŽP) radi određivanja najprilagođenijeg modela za ocenu genetskih parametara i procenu priplodne vrednosti krmača. Analiza fenotipske varijabilnosti BŽP u leglima krmača rase švedski landras sprovedena je na osnovu reproduktivnih pokazatelja 2803 (farma A), 1826 (farma B) i 2235 (farma C) krmača, odnosno njihovih 11014, 6757 i 8452 legala, respektivno. Korišćen je fiksni model metoda najmanjih kvadrata u koga su bili uključeni uticaj prašenja po redu, sezone uspešnog pripusta, genotipa legla, trajanja perioda zalučenje - oplodnja, kvadratni regresijski uticaj starosti krmače pri prašenju ugnježđen u okviru prašenja po redu i linearni regresijski uticaj trajanja prethodne laktacije. Prosečan BŽP se kretao u intervalu od 9.13 (A) do 9.76 (B i C). Svi determinisani uticaji obuhvaćeni modelom su ispoljili statistički vrlo visoko značajan uticaj (p lt 0.001) na variranje BŽP nezavisno od toga koji set podataka je bio analiziran, osim uticaja trajanja prethodne laktacije na farmi B koji je bio ocenjen kao statistički značajan (p lt 0.05).

AB  - Objective of this paper was to evaluate phenotypic variability of carcass quality traits of pigs of Moravka and Mangalitsa breeds. Quantity and content of meat was determined based on Regulation (1985) and dissection of right carcass sides. Obtained data was processed using Least Squares Method (Harvey, 1990). Results of the investigation show that Moravka had in average higher quantity and content of meat in carcass sides than Mangalitsa. Shares of muscle, fat tissue, skin and bone tissue in pig carcass sides of Moravka breed, determined by dissection were: 32.91; 34.94 and 7.70%.
AB  - Rezultati ispitivanja osobina kvaliteta polutki svinja pokazuju da su grla rase moravka imala za 11.76 odnosno 6.02 cm duže polutke od belog soja mangulica. Leđna slanina u mangulice bila je deblja (za 13.6 do 23.6 mm) nego kod moravke. Na osnovu Pravilnika (1985) je ustanovljeno da je moravka imala prosečno veću količinu (+3.22 kg) i sadržaj mesa (+ 5.15%) u polutkama od mangulice (P lt 0.01). Prosečne vrednosti površine m.l.d.P nisu bile statistički značajno različite između moravke i mangulice. Površina slanine koja pripada mišiću (PSm.l.d.) utvrđena u mangulice, bila je za 35.14cm2 (P lt 0.001) veća nego kod moravke. Tako da je odnos meso:mast kod moravke 1:1.865 a mangulice 1:3.330. Udeo mišićnog, masnog tkiva i kože i koštanog tkiva u polutkama svinja rase moravka, utvrđen na osnovu disekcije, je bio: 32.91; 34.94 i 7.70%.

AB  - Objective of the paper was to present characteristics of native/autochthonous pig breed Moravka, reared in the previous century, as well as results relating to activities such as collection, selection, identification and production performance of investigated heads in 2004. Moravka is one of three pig breeds in Serbia included in the programme of preservation of animal genetic resources.
AB  - U našoj zemlji su evidentirane tri autohtone rase svinja: mangulica, moravka i resavka. Moravka i resavka su dve autohtone rase svinja koje su u opasnosti da nestanu, te su obuhvaćene programom očuvanja i održivog korišćenja. U radu su prikazane karakteristike autohtone rase svinja moravka gajene u prošlom veku (Tabela 1 i 2) kao i rezultati rada na sakupljanju, odabiranju, identifikaciji i proizvodnim osobinama grla rase moravka od 2004. godine (Tabela 3 i 4). Prosečna telesna masa krmača (u jednom zapatu) starosti od 3 do 5 godina, bila je 77,67 kg a visina grebena 63,83 cm. Krmače su oprasile prosečano 7,20 prasadi sa variranjem od 5 do 14. U tovu od 31,92 do 94,33 kg prosečan dnevni prirast je bio 385g/dan a konverzija hrane 3,74 kg kukuruza za kilogram prirasta telesne mase. Prosečan dnevni prirast je bio najveći izmedju 3. i 4. merenja (514 g/dan) što odgovara uzrastu od 253 do 283 dana.

Investigation of the skatole content in fat tissue and sensory acceptability of smoked neck from young boars

AB  - In this paper content of skatole equivalent in samples of fat tissue from young boars was determined, also the dependence between sensory evaluation of the acceptability of smoked neck meat from young boars and skatole content in fat tissue, as well as differences in acceptability of samples with different content of skatole in fat tissue (from 0,117μg/g to 1,067μg/g). Total average evaluation of sensory analysis of smoked neck meat was 4,12, and variation measures show significant differences in evaluation of certain samples (Cv = 26,74%; Iv = 4,45). Distribution of samples based on this evaluation shows that 56% of samples were acceptable, and 17% "still acceptable". Medium correlation dependence (Rxy=0,649) was determined between sensory evaluation of the acceptability of smoked neck meat and content of skatole in fat tissue. Statistically significant difference was established in sensory evaluation between samples with skatole content bellow 0,400􀁐g/g and samples with skatole content of 1,067μg/g. .
AB  - U ovom radu određivan je sadržaj skatol ekvivalenta u uzorcima masnog tkiva mladih nerastova, ispitivana je zavisnost između senzorne ocene prihvatljivosti dimljenog vrata mladih nerastova i sadržaja skatola u masnom tkivu, kao i razlika u prihvatljivosti između uzoraka dimljenog vrata mladih nerastova sa različitim sadržajem skatola u masnom tkivu (od 0,117μg/g do 1,067μg/g). Ukupna prosečna ocena senzornih ispitivanja dimljenog vrata je 4,12, a mere varijacije pokazuju značajne razlike u oceni pojedinih uzoraka (Cv = 26,74%; Iv = 4,45). Raspodela uzoraka na osnovu ove ocene pokazuje da je 56% uzoraka prihvatljivo, a 17% "još uvek prihvatljivo". Između senzorne ocene prihvatljivosti dimljenog vrata i sadržaja skatola u masnom tkivu, utvrđena je srednja korelaciona zavisnost (Rxy=0,649). UtvrĐena je statistički značajna razlika u senzornim ocenama između uzoraka sa sadržajem skatola manjim od 0,400μg/g i uzoraka sa sadržajem skatola od 1,067μg/g. .

Evaluation of boar sire breeding value using probit method

AB  - Objective of this paper was to evaluate breeding value of boarsires based on four traits of their offspring (average life daily gain and share of meat in carcass sides (%) of offspring-fatteners, number of live born piglets and number of weaned piglets - boars' daughters). Investigation included sires of Swedish Landrace breed and Large White. Breeding value was evaluated on the level of population and within the breed of investigated boars. Data was processed by method of Least Squares (Harvey, 1990), and breeding values of boars evaluated using modified Probit values (Petrović et al., 1995). Obtained results show that the highest total breeding value was established for boar No. 1 (20,832). Its offspring were superior in three of four traits and he is at the same time the first ranked boar. Contrary to this boar, two Large White boar-sires (No. 5 and 6) had offspring with bellow average values for three of four traits. Therefore, these sires influenced improvement of only one trait in their offspring.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada bio je da se oceni priplodna vrednost nerasta-očeva na osnovu četiri osobne potomaka (prosečan životni dnevni prirast i udeo mesa u polutkama (%) potomaka-tovljenika, broj živorođene prasadi i broj zalučene prasadi kćeri nerasta). Ispitivanjem su obuhvaćeni očevi rase švedski landras i veliki jorkšir. Priplodna vrednost je ocenjena na nivou populacije i unutar rase ispitivanih nerasta. Podaci su obrađeni metodom najmanjih kvadrata (Harvey, 1990), a priplodne vrednosti nerasta ocenjene su primenom modifikovane vrednosti probita (Petrović et al., 1995). Dobijeni rezultati pokazuju da je najveću ukupnu priplodnu vrednost imao je nerast br. 1 (20,832). Njegovi potomci su bili nadmoćniji u tri od četiri osobine. On je i prvo rangirani nerast. Suprotno od njega, dva nerastaoca rase veliki jorkšir (br. 5 i 6) su imali potomke koji su za tri od četiri osobine bili ispod proseka. Prema tome ovi očevi su uticali na poboljšanje samo jedne osobine potomaka.
