Genetic trend of functional productive life in the population of black and white cattle in Serbia

AB  - This research was conducted with the aim of estimating genetic trend for a functional length of productive life (FLPL) in the population of Black and White cattle in Serbia. Research and bulls genetic evaluation for functional longevity were performed on a set of data provided by Agricultural Corporation Belgrade AD (PKB) which contained data on longevity and origin of 22109 cows out of which 26% records were right-censored. Functional length of productive life (FPLP) represents a time period from the first calving to culling or censoring corrected for milk production. Breeding values were estimated using Weibull method of proportional risks within survival analysis a genetic trend for FLPL was calculated using of a regression analysis. The cows included in the analysis were on average first calved in the age of 809 days and had an average share of 81.9% genes of Holstein Friesian breed. An average length of productive life was 1267 days (41.6 months). Distribution of bull standardised breeding values did not statistically significantly differ from normal distribution. An average standardised breeding value was 99. A slightly positive genetic trend was determined, that is, the length of functional productive life was by selection increased by 0.021 day at an annual level while a reliability of estimated breeding values showed a negative trend.

The soybean molasses in diets for dairy cows

AB  - The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the use of soybean molasses in the nutrition of lactating cows on their performance and some blood and rumen content parameters. Treatments included isoenergetic and isoprotein rations: total mixed ration (TMR) which included 1 kg of soybean molasses and TMR without soybean molasses. The use of soybean molasses in TMR for lactating cows increased yield of 4 % FCM (5.03 %). There was no difference in milk fat content and yield between treatments. The use of soybean molasses increased the concentration (3.45 vs 3.32 %) and yield (from 0.81 to 0.88 kg/day) of milk protein. Improved utilization of consumed ration dry matter (DM), energy and crude protein by 4.60, 4.81 and 7.82 %, respectively, was confirmed. There was no significant effect of including soybean molasses in TMR on ruminal pH value, number and structure of protozoa population nor on their motility. Soybean molasses had a positive effect on decrease of the urea blood concentration (5.45 vs 6.30 mmol/L) while no significant effects were observed for the concentrations of glucose, Ca and P in blood. Results of this study indicate that soybean molasses, as a source of readily available energy, can be used successfully in rations for lactating cows.

Phenotypic and genetic variability of milk production traits of the black-and-white dairy cattle breed in the first three complete and standard lactations

AB  - Improving the genetic capacity for highyielding, highquality and profitable milk production is the priority of countries with cattle production.Due to their marked phenotypic and genetic variability, milk production traits are particularly important in all breeding and improvement programmes. The paper presents the average values and phenotypic variability of major milk production traits examined in the first three complete and standard lactations, as well as the effect of systemic environmental factors on the expression of these traits. The bull-sire, farm, year, calving season and lactation sequence had a highly significant effect on the studiedmilk production parameters (P  lt 0.01). The paper also shows the heritability of milk production parameters, calculated with the method of least squares (LS) and the REML method. The coefficients of heritability for milk yield, milk fat content, fat yield and 4% in the standard lactation, calculated with the method of least squares, were 0.109; 0.047; 0.098 and 0.106, respectively. The coefficients of heritability calculated with the REML method were higher for all milk production traits in the standard lactation, being 0.148; 0.086; 0.128, and 0.138, respectively.
AB  - U zemljama koje se bave govedarskom proizvodnjom primaran značaj se daje unapređenju genetskih kapaciteta za visoku, kvalitetnu i ekonomski isplativu proizvodnju mleka. Osobine mlečnosti zbog izražene fenotipske i genetske varijabilnosti imaju poseban značaj u svim programima selekcije i oplemenjivanja. U radu su prikazane prosečne vrednosti i fenotipska varijabilnost važnijih osobina mlečnosti ispitivanih u prve tri cele i standardne laktacije, kao i uticaj sistematskih faktora okoline na ispoljenost ovih svojstava. Ustanovljen je visoko značajan uticaj bika-oca, farme, godine, sezone teljenja i redosleda laktacije na ispoljenost posmatranih osobina mlečnosti (P lt 0,01). AB  - The investigation was carried on dairy cows farm AD “Vojvodina” Starčevo. Two groups of cows, uniformed by lactation number, stage of lactation, milk yield and body condition score, were compared. Experimental animals received iso-energetic rations, where trial group had 1 kg of soybean molasses, which was not included in the control group. Cows which received diet with soybean molasses had higher milk yield and protein content (p lt 0,01), higher milk fat content and body condition score (p>0,05).
AB  - Ispitivanje je izvršeno na farmi mlečnih krava AD “Vojvodina” u Starčevu. Upoređivane su dve grupe krava ujednačenih po laktaciji po redu, fazi laktacije, količini mleka i oceni telesne kondicije. Eksperimentalne grupe su hranjene izoenergetskim obrocima, pri čemu je ogledna grupa je hranjena obrocima u kojima je bio uključen 1 kg sojine melase, dok je u kontrolnoj nije bilo. Krave hranjene obrocima sa sojinom melasom su ostvarile znatno veći prinos mleka i sadržaj proteina (p lt 0,01), kao i veći sadržaj mlečne masti i bolju ocenu telesne kondicije (p>0,05).

Tolerance PKB corn hybrids for drought in 2012 year

AB  - In this paper, the grain yield of maize commercial hybrids developed at the Institute PKB Agroekonomik. The tested hybrids from different maturity groups from FAO 200 to FAO 700th. Hybrids have been tested through a network makrodemonstracionih reflected in eight locations. In conditions of extremely dry periods followed by high air temperatures, what conditions were like in 2012. year, hybrids PKB Agroekonimik expressed a high degree of tolerance to drought stress factor at several sites in terms of production without irrigation. Domestic hybrids were created classical breeding methods in long-term multi-year test to stress factors. Results achieved in some localities justify route selection to preserve genetic biodiversity and its use in hybrids in extremely difficult conditions for maize production. Proper selection of hybrids for the production of a certain area represents 50% of good preconditions for achieving maximum yields, while the other 50% is done properly and timely cultural operations used.
AB  - U radu je analiziran prinos zrna kukuruza komercijalnih hibrida stvorenih u Institutu PKB Agroekonomik. Ispitivani hibridi kukuruza pripadaju različitim grupama zrenja od FAO 200 do FAO 700. Hibridi kukuruza testirani su kroz mrežu makrodemonstracionih ogleda na osam lokaliteta. U uslovima izuzetno sušnog perioda praćenog visokim temperaturama vazduha, kakvi su bili uslovi tokom 2012. godine, hibridi kukuruza Instituta PKB Agroekonimik iskazali su visok stepen tolerantnosti na stresni faktor suše na nekoliko lokaliteta u uslovima proizvodnje bez navodnjavanja. Domaći hibridi stvoreni su klasičnim metodama selekcije u dugotrajnom višegodišnjem testiranju na stresne faktore. Rezultati ostvareni na pojedinim lokalitetima opravdavaju pravac selekcije u cilju očuvanja genetičkog biodiverziteta i njegovog korišćenja kroz stvorene hibride u uslovima izuzetno otežanim za proizvodnju kukuruza. Results achieved in some localities justify route selection to preserve genetic biodiversity and its use in hybrids in extremely difficult conditions for maize production. Proper selection of hybrids for the production of a certain area represents 50% of good preconditions for achieving maximum yields, while the other 50% is done properly and timely cultural operations used., U radu je analiziran prinos zrna kukuruza komercijalnih hibrida stvorenih u Institutu PKB Agroekonomik. Ispitivani hibridi kukuruza pripadaju različitim grupama zrenja od FAO 200 do FAO 700. Hibridi kukuruza testirani su kroz mrežu makrodemonstracionih ogleda na osam lokaliteta. U uslovima izuzetno sušnog perioda praćenog visokim temperaturama vazduha, kakvi su bili uslovi tokom 2012. godine, hibridi kukuruza Instituta PKB Agroekonimik iskazali su visok stepen tolerantnosti na stresni faktor suše na nekoliko lokaliteta u uslovima proizvodnje bez navodnjavanja. Domaći hibridi stvoreni su klasičnim metodama selekcije u dugotrajnom višegodišnjem testiranju na stresne faktore. Rezultati ostvareni na pojedinim lokalitetima opravdavaju pravac selekcije u cilju očuvanja genetičkog biodiverziteta i njegovog korišćenja kroz stvorene hibride u uslovima izuzetno otežanim za proizvodnju kukuruza. Pravilan izbor hibrida za proizvodnju u određenom rejonu predstavlja 50% dobrog preduslova za ostvarivanje maksimalnih prinosa dok ostalih 50% pripada pravilno izvedenim i blagovremeno primenjenim agrotehničkim merama.",

AB  - Aerobic stability is a term that indicates the length of the time that silage remains cool and does not spoil after it is exposed to air. Therefore, rapid removal of air from forage mass and prevention of air infiltration into the silage during storage and feed out are the important factors that determine the duration of the silage aerobic stability. The measurement of CO2 production, separately or in combination with other measurements such as temperature, pH, lactic acid and volatile fatty acids and microbial examination, can serve as a reliable laboratory method to determine the duration of silages aerobic stability in silages. This paper work has aim to point on the importance of determination the duration of aerobic stability of silages, because quality changes and losses in the case of aerobic degradation.
AB  - Aerobna stabilnost je termin kojim se definiše dužina vremena za koje silaža ostaje hladna i ne kvari se po izlaganju vazduhu. Zbog toga, brzo otklanjanje vazduha iz silaže tokom siliranja i smanjeno izlaganje vazduhu po otvaranju silosa su dva važna faktora koji određuju dužinu aerobne stabilnosti silirane stočne hrane. U proceni aerobnog kvarenja,merenje proizvodnje CO2, odvojeno ili u kombinaciji sa drugim parametrima kao što je temperatura silaže, pH vrednost, sadržaj mlečne i sirćetne kiseline i mikrobiološka analiza, mogu se koristiti kao pouzdani laboratorijski metod. Ovaj rad ima za cilj da ukaže na značaj procene vremena trajanja aerobne stabilnosti stočne hrane,zbog promena i gubitaka kvaliteta pri aerobnoj degradaciji.

AB  - Last year (2012) will be marked as one of the worst in the History of Agriculture in Republic of Serbia. Heat and drought affected low quantity and quality of forage. In the same year we had lack of hay and maize silage. According weather forecast and anti­cipated climatic changes in the future, farmers need to found new ways to provide forage, especially in the "no irrigation" plant farming. In that way, ensiling of whole-crop cereals could be one of the solutions, because of theirs nutritive values, yields and all risks of heat and drought from planting to harvesting.
AB  - Protekla 2012. god. u istoriji poljoprivredne proizvodnje u Srbiji biće označena kao jedna od najnepovoljnijih, posebno kada je u pitanju količina i kvalitet kabaste stočne hrane za ishranu preživara, naročito mlečnih krava (nedostatak i slab kvalitet sena i silaža kukuruza). Sa postojećim klimatskim predviđanjima u budućnosti se može očekivati nedostatak kabaste stočne hrane u uslovima "suvog" ratarenja. Jedno od mogućih rešenja je korišćenje strnih žita za pripremanje silaža i sena, kako zbog svojih nutritivnih vrednosti, tako i zbog prinosa i smanjenih rizika od suše i visokih temperatura.

AB  - The objective of this study was to compare effects of products derived from soybeans, with different oil content, on milk production and some, more important indicators of metabolic profile, during the middle period of lactation. The experiment was conducted on two groups of Holstein cows. There were 15 cows in each group. The ration of the control group of cows (I), was based on equal amounts of full-fat and low-fat (expeller soybeans meal), heat treated soybeans. Cows in experimental group (II) were received ration, wherein full-fat heat treated soybeans, was completely replaced with expeller soybeans meal (Biopro 60). At the end of experiment, milk production in control group of cows was 29.95 kg with butterfat content 3.54%, while in the experimental group it was 31.47 kg of milk with the butterfat content 3.45%. The differences of mentioned parameters were not statistically significant (p>0.05), nor in the case of protein content which was 3.50% in control group and 3.48% in experimental group of cows. According to achieved results it can be concluded that is possible to improve production, when nutrition of cows is based on soybean products with lower fat content, during the middle period of lactation.
AB  - Cilj istraživanja je bio poređenje uticaja proizvoda od soje, sa različitim sadržajem ulja, na proizvodne rezultate i važnije pokazatelje metaboličkog profila krava, u srednjem periodu laktacije. Ogled je sproveden na dve grupe krava, crno-bele rase u tipu Holštajna, sa po 15 grla u grupi. Obrok kontrolne grupe krava (I) zasnivao se na kombinaciji termički tretirane soje, punomasne i obezmašćene (sojina pogača). Krave ogledne grupe (II) konzumirale su obrok, u kome je punomasna termički tretirana soja u potpunosti zamenjena sojinom pogačom (Biopro 60). Na kraju ogleda, u kontrolnoj grupi, ostvarena je proizvodnja mleka od 29,95 kg, sa sadržajem mlečne masti od 3,54%, dok je u oglednoj grupi ostvarena proizvodnja od 31,47 kg sa 3,45% mlečne masti. Razlike u napred pomenutim proizvodnim pokazateljima nisu bile statistički značajne (p>0,05), kao ni u slučaju sadržaja proteina koji je u prvoj grupi bio 3,50%, a u drugoj grupi 3,48%. Na osnovu ostvarenih rezulata, može se zaključiti da je moguće uticati na povećanje proizvodnje mleka korišćenjem proizvoda na bazi soje sa manjim sadržajem ulja, u ishrani krava, u srednjem periodu laktacije.

Phenotypic correlations between assessed and measured body conformation traits of black and white cows

AB  - The analysis of visually assessed and measured body conformation traits were based on the sample of 935 first calving black and white were daughters from 59 bull-sires. Proportion of Hoistein genes in the genotype of bulls and cows was 80 and 60 percentage approximately. Milk production was realized during period of six years on ten farms of agriculture combine from Belgrade. Results are processed by method of least squares (HARVEY, 1990). Linearly scored traits were about average using the scale from 1 to 9. Measured traits have shown expected values which represent investigated population. Phenotypic correlations were weak and strong with positive and negative coefficient in both group of traits. AH differences between bull-sires were statistically high significant (P lt 0,03), including all presented traits.
AB  - Analizom rezultata vizuelno procenjenih i merenih osobina telesne razvijenost obuhvaćeno je 935 prvotelki crno belih goveda koje su vodile poreklo od 59 bikova – očeva. Proporcija gena holštajna u genotipu bikova je prosečno iznosila oko 80% a krava ok 60%. Proizvodnja mleka je ostvarena u periodu od šest godina na 10 farmi PK "Beograd". Za obradu rezultata korišćen je model oca po metodi najmanjih kvadrata. Srednje vrednosti ocenjenih osobina su bile u rasponu od 5-6 što predstavlja prosečnu ispoljenost sa niskom varijabilnošću (CV - 16,5% za vezanost prednjeg vimena). Srednje vrednosti i varijabilnost merenih osobina bili su u granicama koje karakterišu genotipove crno-belih krava u ispitivanoj populaciji. Fenotipska povezanost između osobina se kretala od jako slabe do potpune sa manjim brojem negativnih koeficijenata. abstract = "The analysis of visually assessed and measured body conformation traits were based on the sample of 935 first calving black and white were daughters from 59 bull-sires. Proportion of Hoistein genes in the genotype of bulls and cows was 80 and 60 percentage approximately. Milk production was realized during period of six years on ten farms of agriculture combine from Belgrade. Results are processed by method of least squares (HARVEY, 1990). Linearly scored traits were about average using the scale from 1 to 9. Measured traits have shown expected values which represent investigated population. Phenotypic correlations were weak and strong with positive and negative coefficient in both group of traits. AH differences between bull-sires were statistically high significant (P lt 0,03), including all presented traits., Analizom rezultata vizuelno procenjenih i merenih osobina telesne razvijenost obuhvaćeno je 935 prvotelki crno belih goveda koje su vodile poreklo od 59 bikova – očeva. Proporcija gena holštajna u genotipu bikova je prosečno iznosila oko 80% a krava ok 60%. Proizvodnja mleka je ostvarena u periodu od šest godina na 10 farmi PK "Beograd". Za obradu rezultata korišćen je model oca po metodi najmanjih kvadrata. Srednje vrednosti ocenjenih osobina su bile u rasponu od 5-6 što predstavlja prosečnu ispoljenost sa niskom varijabilnošću (CV - 16,5% za vezanost prednjeg vimena). Srednje vrednosti i varijabilnost merenih osobina bili su u granicama koje karakterišu genotipove crno-belih krava u ispitivanoj populaciji. Fenotipska povezanost između osobina se kretala od jako slabe do potpune sa manjim brojem negativnih koeficijenata. Rezultati analize varijanse su pokazali visoko značajne razlike (P lt 0,01) između bikova za sve navedene osobine.",

AB  - The selection base is in the end reduced to selecting the best male and female and their matting in order to develop a progeny superior to parents for selected traits. Applied methods for the production improvement depend on genetic variability and relationships of traits under improvement. The heritability is not a constant and absolute value. It is a probability or prediction, depending on the same factors as a phenotype. Due to this, it is very important to estimate heritability for each herd-population. At the same time, it is very important to optimize production conditions so as to ensure a better expression of genetic variability.
AB  - Osnov selekcijskog rada predstavlja odabir najboljih jedinki i njihovo međusobno parenje, kako bi se dobilo potomstvo superiornije, u pogledu selekcionisanih osobina, u odnosu na roditelje. Koje ćemo metode i postupke, tom prilikom, primeniti u najvećoj meri zavisi od naslednosti i genetičke povezanosti osobina koje želimo unaprediti. Heritabilnost nije konstanta, niti apsolutna, već je to verovatnoća, tj. prognoza i zavisi od svih onih faktora od kojih zavisi i fenotipska ispoljenost osobina. Zbog svega toga, neophodno je da se u odabiru metoda i postupaka selekcije i ocene priplodne vrednosti životinja on procenjuje za svaku populaciju-zapat. Istovremeno veoma je važno optimalizovati uslove proizvodnje, kako bi se genetička varijabilnost što bolje ispoljila.
