AB - Tomato, one of the most produced vegetables in the world, is experiencing continuous
global increase in both production and consumption. Fruit quality traits are important for
fresh market tomatoes as well as for the processing industry. Despite the growing demand
for both fresh and processed tomatoes, consumers are not satisfied with the quality of
available fruits. The main objectives of the present work were to determine the
physicochemical characteristics [pH, total soluble solids (TSS), total titratable acids
(TTA), TSS/TTA ratio, DMC, lycopene, β-carotene, vitamin C, and total phenolic
content], as well as the antioxidant activity of 13 different tomato lines, and to identify the
most promising ones in terms of fruit taste and quality. Antioxidant activity was
determined using the ABTS and DPPH methods with Trolox used as the standard
compound. PCA analysis was conducted to identify group patterns. The results of PCA
analysis indicated a specific genotypic response in all investigated physicochemical traits.
Genotypes 2, 10, and 13 were identified as the best for fresh consumption, as they
exhibited the highest levels of compounds crucial for good taste, nutrition, and human
health benefits. The most promising genotype related to fruit quality attributes was
genotype 10 with the best TSS and TAA content and TSS/TAA ratio, which is important
for overall taste perception. On the other hand, genotype 9 showed promise for industrial
purposes due to its ideal pH value in the juice and good soluble solid content. High
antioxidant activity was characteristic of genotypes 1 and 2, and their consumption as fresh
tomatoes can be beneficial to human health. They also should be considered for further
evaluation as potentially interesting genotypes for abiotic stress research and selection
programs which can lead to the development of both superior fruit quality and stress
tolerant genotypes.

Tradicionalni genotipovi, lokalne populacije i divlji srodnici kultivisanih biljaka pokazuju
oplemenjivanja i imaju veliki značaj u kontekstu rastućih klimatskih promena.
Konzervacija i održiva upotreba tradicionalnih genotipova obezbeđuje diverzitet ishrane
lokalnih zajednica i veću nezavisnost lokalnih sistema proizvodnje hrane. Tradicionalni
genotipovi gajeni u tradicionalnim, ekstenzivnim poljoprivrednim sistemima su takođe
značajni sa aspekta zaštite životne sredine u poljoprivredi. Oni takođe imaju kulturološki
i gastronomski značaj.
ploda, sadržaj solubilnih materija i organskih kiselina. Senzoričke osobine plodova su
ocenjene putem upitnika za najvažnije karakteristike ploda: izgled, miris, ukus, sočnost i
trpkost.
genotipova 'Repača' i 'Kožara starinska'. Najveći sadržaj solubilnih materija i organskih
kiselina su imali plodovi genotipa 'Kožara starinska'. Najniži sadržaj organskih kiselina
109
odlikuje genotipove 'Valijka', 'Bela vajlija' i 'Šarenika', dok je najniži sadržaj solubilnih
materija prisutan kod genotipova 'Streknja' i 'Bela valija'.
genotip 'Zvečarka' zbog veoma atraktivnih plodova, ali i najnižu ocenu ukusa. Plodovi
'Lepocvetka' i 'Valijka'.
'Budimka' i 'Streknja' prepoznat u proizvodnji sokova.

AB - This paper presents the first Upper Cretaceous remains of fish in Serbia, discovered near the village of Struganik. This is also the first described find of Mesozoic fish in Serbia. A stone slab with visible contours of an almost complete fish, with a total body length of about 20 cm, was excavated from the Struganik quarry. Most bones are preserved as imprints. The number of vertebrae, the shape and position of the cranial bones, the type of teeth, and the position of the first dorsal fin all indicate that the studied specimen belongs to the genus Enchodus known from several Upper Cretaceous localities in the Tethys domain © 2022, Geoloski Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva. All Rights Reserved.

AB - Traditional crop varieties are useful sources of desirable characteristics for developing new
cultivars with improved nutritive and sensory attributes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the
fruit-quality parameters in three traditional tomato genotypes: pink, yellow and dark colors. The
results showed that yellow-colored tomatoes had the highest TSS/TTA ratio and antioxidative activity,
but the lowest content of lycopene and β-carotene. The genotypic differences in the carotenoid
components were also confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The advantage of the yellow-tomato
genotype related to fruit-quality compounds compared to the other genotypes indicated its potential
in a breeding program.

AB - Different priming methods were developed to improve seed germination and the early growth of seedlings. This study aimed to examine the combined effect of bacterial inoculation and static magnetic field on white mustard (Sinapis alba L.) germination. A plant growth‐promoting bacterial strain Bacillus amyloliquefaciens D5 ARV was used for biopriming. The static magnetic field of 90 mT was applied for 5 and 15 min. Analyses of abscisic acid, chlorophyll, anthocyanins, flavonoids content, nitrogen balance index, and bacterial indole‐3‐acetic acid were used to explain observed effects. Bacterial inoculation improved seed germination, whereas exposure to 90 mT for 15 min suppressed germination. Such an unfavorable effect was neutralized when the treatment with the static magnetic field was combined with bacterial inoculation. The highest germination percentage was a result of synergistic action of B. amyloliquefaciens D5 ARV and 15 min long exposure to 90 mT, which induced an increase of 53.20% in the number of germinated seeds. The static magnetic field induced the increase of bacterial indole‐3‐acetic acid production threefold times. Biomagnetic priming caused a metabolic shift from primary to secondary metabolism in the white mustard seedlings. An adequate combination of biological priming and static magnetic field treatment can be successfully used in old seed revitalization and germination improvements.

The static magnetic field induced the increase of bacterial indole‐3‐acetic acid production threefold times. Biomagnetic priming caused a metabolic shift from primary to secondary metabolism in the white mustard seedlings. An adequate combination of biological priming and static magnetic field treatment can be successfully used in old seed revitalization and germination improvements.",

AB - To assess the effects of ABA deficiency on tomato fruit growth, the ABA mutant flacca was grown in an optimal soil water regime and various analyzes were performed, including morphological (fruit number, diameter and fruit biomass), physiological (duration of growth and fruit growth rate), biochemical (ABA accumulation, enzyme cell wall peroxidase activity) as well as proteomics. The fruit growth analysis showed that the slower fruit growth rate and development resulted in smaller flacca fruits in comparison to the wild-type fruits. The comparison of the temporal dynamics of cell wall peroxidase activity and ABA content in our experiment indicated an opposite relationship during fruit development. Proteomic analysis and the down-regulation of most proteins from carbon and amino acid metabolism, the translation and processing of proteins, energy metabolism and cell wall-related metabolism in the flacca fruits compared to the wild type, indicated reduced metabolic flux which reflected a slower fruit growth and development and reduced fruit size in the ABA mutant. These findings also indicated that ABA limited carbon sources, which could be responsible for the reduced fruit growth and size of ABA-deficient tomato fruits. The up-regulation of sulfur and oxygen-evolving enhancer proteins in the flacca fruits implicated the maintenance of photosynthesis in the late expansion phase, which slows down transition to the ripening stage. The majority of antioxidative and stress defence proteins were down-regulated in the flacca fruits, which could be related to the role of ABA in the activity of different antioxidative enzymes as well as in regulating cell wall expansion and the cessation of fruit growth.

AB - Lettuce is a worldwide grown leafy vegetable rich in phytochemicals which are essential in human diet. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of genotype, microbiological fertilisers and season on the rosette fresh weight and components of antioxidant activity. Six cultivars (green ‘Kiribati', ‘Aleppo', ‘Aquino' and red ‘Murai', ‘Carmesi', ‘Gaugin‘) were grown in a greenhouse experiment during three consecutive seasons (autumn, winter and spring) with application of microbiological fertilisers (EM Aktiv, Vital Tricho and their combination). Green cultivars showed higher fresh weight than red in spring and winter. Green cultivar ‘Aleppo’ showed the highest fresh weight in control during spring. Microbiological fertilisers led to increased fresh weight in autumn. Mainly, red cultivars showed higher quality parameters compared to green (total antioxidant capacity, total phenolic content, total carotenoids and POD activity). Red cultivar ‘Carmesi' showed the highest total antioxidant capacity, total carotenoids, and total phenolic content in winter with combination of fertilisers, Vital Tricho, and in control. In spring, ‘Carmesi' and ‘Gaugin' showed the highest POD activity with Vital Tricho, and combination of fertilisers. The present study suggested that genotype, fertilisers and season jointly influenced quantity and quality parameters with emphasis on Vital Tricho, and/or combination of fertilisers.

AB - Water deficit triggers physiological, biochemical, and molecular changes in leaves that could be important for overall plant adaptive response and it can affect
tomato yield and quality. To assess the influence of longterm moderate drought on leaves, four tomato accessions
from MAGIC TOM populations were selected on the basis
of their differences in fruit size and were grown in a
glasshouse under control and water deficit conditions.
Drought affected stomatal conductance more in large fruit
genotypes compared to cherry genotypes and this could be
related to higher abscisic acid (ABA) leaf content. Compared to large fruits, cherry tomato genotypes coped better
with water stress by reducing leaf area and maintaining
photochemical efficiency as important adaptive responses.
Accumulation of soluble sugars in the cherry genotypes
and organic acid in the leaves of the larger fruit genotypes
indicated their role in the osmoregulation and the continuum of source/sink gradient under stress conditions. Longterm moderate drought induced upregulation of NCED
gene in all four genotypes that was associated with ABA
production. The increase in the expression of ZEP gene
was found only in the LA1420 cherry genotype and indicated its possible role in the protection against photooxidative stress induced by prolonged water stress. In
addition, upregulation of the APX genes, higher accumulation of vitamin C and total antioxidant capacity in cherry
genotype leaves highlighted their greater adaptive response
against long-term drought stress compared to larger fruit
genotypes that could also reflect at fruit level.

AB - Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is an annual, leafy crop with a short growth in cool season. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of microbiological fertilisers, genotype and growing seasons on the fresh weight (FW), concentration of nitrate and vitamin C in the rosette (head) of red lettuce. The greenhouse experiment included three cultivars ('Murai', 'Gaugin' and 'Carmesi') of red lettuce grown in fertile soil during successive growing seasons: autumn, winter and spring. Three types of microbiological fertilisers: (1) mixture of fungi and bacteria and their products, referred to as effective microorganisms (EM), (2) containing Trichoderma spp. and (3) mixture of EM and Trichoderma spp., were applied for red lettuce. Microbiological fertilisers were applied in the soil and via foliar spray before planting. Significantly higher FW of the rosette was in spring and winter than in autumn. The 'Murai' showed significantly the highest (264.7 g) FW of the rosette in spring. Trichoderma spp. fertiliser and the combination of effective microorganisms and Trichoderma spp. significantly increased FW of the rosette for the 'Murai' and 'Gaugin' grown in autumn. The highest nitrate concentration was observed for winter grown 'Carmesi' (805.2 mg kg(-1)) treated by effective microorganisms, and the lowest for spring grown 'Gaugin' (62.2 mg kg(-1)) without microbial fertilisers. Generally, the application of microbiological fertilisers contributed to a significantly higher concentration of nitrate in the rosette of red lettuce. The concentration of nitrate did not exceed maximum level for protected lettuce (EC No 563/2002). In spring, significantly the highest concentration of vitamin C (12.2 mg 100 g(-1) FW) was found in the 'Carmesi' treated with Trichoderma spp. Microbiological fertilisers contributed to significantly higher concentration of vitamin C in the 'Gaugin' and 'Carmesi' grown in winter and spring. This study indicated that genotype, treatment and growth season affected all the tested parameters highlighting the importance of application of Trichoderma spp. or the combination of Trichoderma spp. with effective microorganisms.

AB - The reaction of leaf growth to drought stress is controlled by various hormones, among which ABA is one of the most important. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of ABA deficiency on tomato leaf response under severe drought stress. Therefore, ABA-mutant (flacca) and wild type (Ailsa Craig) were selected for research and in the stage of second flower truss anthesis plants were exposed to severe water deficit. The effects of severe drought on wild-type leaves and flacca mutant showed that, as a result of reduced ABA concentrations, flacca plants were exposed to a higher degree of stress than wild-type leaves, which had a negative impact on the examined physiological and biochemical parameters. Severe drought caused stomatal closure, decreased water potential, specific leaf area, and chlorophyll concentrations in the leaves in both genotypes, but this was more pronounced in the mutant. Wild-type plants have accumulated more vitamin C and ABA and have a higher total antioxidant capacity in the leaves in dry conditions than flacca mutants, which contribute to their better adaptive response to stress. Based on this, it can be assumed that the ABA mutation has led to a decrease in the capacity for oxidative stress products caused by severe drought stress.

AB - Lettuce belongs to a group of leafy vegetable crops with special importance in human
nutrition. Along with healthy compounds lettuce can accumulate nitrate in leaves. The
purpose of this study was to examine the effects of genotype, microbiological fertilizers and
season on plant weight and nitrate content in outer and inner leaves. Green cultivars
(′Kiribati′, ′Aquino′, ′Aleppo′) were cultivated in a fertile soil, in a greenhouse trial at the
company Iceberg Salat Centar, during three successive seasons (autumn, winter and spring).
Microbiological fertilizers (EM Aktiv, Vital Tricho and combination of EM Aktiv and Vital
Tricho) were applied in the soil before trials and foliar. In spring cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the
highest head fresh weight (360.3 g). All microbiological fertilizers led to increased head fresh
weight in ′Aquino′ during autumn trial. Mainly fresh weight was higher in spring and winter
compared to autumn. Cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the highest nitrate content (985.4 mg/kg,
autumn) in outer leaves with application of Vital Tricho. Opposite to that, the lowest nitrate
content was found in inner leaves of cultivar ′Aleppo′ (35.4 mg/kg, spring) with combination
of fertilizers. Generally, microbiological fertilizers significantly increased nitrate content in
outer and decreased in inner leaves. In both leaves the lowest nitrate level was measured in
spring season. During all trials nitrate content remained under allowed level of European
Commission Regulation (563/2002) for protected lettuce.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the quinoa fruit and seed microstructure, as well as to determine the qualitative composition of quinoa whole seed spatial localisation of food reserves in cultivars Puno and Titicaca using two complementary spectroscopic techniques (Fourier Transform infrared and Raman). The analyses of the seeds also included measurements of the crude proteins and starch contents. The experiment was carried out during the 2016 growing season in rain-fed conditions in the north of Serbia. The analysis of the scores of the principal components based on the Raman spectra revealed two groups in both seed parts (cotyledons and perisperm). The analysis of the loadings highlighted the spectrum region that contributed to the differentiation, e.g. the band at 472 cm(-1) was related to the amylopectin content in the perisperm region. As for the cotyledons, the spectral range from 1100 to 1650 cm(-1) was responsible for genotype differences and it included both the most important bands derived from Amide I, II and quinoa protein with globoid crystals composed of phytin. IR analysis, similar to the analyses of the crude proteins and starch contents in the seeds, failed to reveal any differences in biochemical composition between two analyzed genotypes.

AB - The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of long term moderate drought stress on fruit yield and quality of four parents of the MAGIC TOM population and to gain insight into the differences in sensitivity to drought between large fruited and cherry tomatoes. Results showed that long term water deficit had a negative effect on fresh mass and fruit diameter that were more expressed in cherry tomatoes than in large fruited ones. Long term moderate water deficit can improve fruit taste in large fruited tomato genotypes by active metabolic accumulation of soluble sugar and organic acid (sucrose and citric acid), which are also osmotic active compounds. The reduction in fruit growth of cherry tomatoes compared to large fruits could be compensated for by improving fruit nutritional value (ascorbic acid, carotenoids and antioxidant activity) through both concentration and metabolic responses.

AB - Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is considered as a very important agricultural crop due
to its nutritional value and tolerance to different stress factors. The aim of this study was to
investigate the differences in yield, the content of starch and protein in the seed of two
introduced genotypes of quinoa (Puno and Titicaca) and the possibility of their cultivation in
Serbian agroecological conditions. The experiment was carried out during the 2017 growing
season in the rain-fed condition in Subotica, Republic of Serbia. The seeds were sowed in the
first part of April. Sowing was done at a depth of 2 centimeters, the distance between the rows
was 50 cm and between the plants in the row 5 cm. The crops were harvested in the first half
of August when quinoa seeds were mature and the amount of moisture in seed was 12%. The
harvest of Puno and Titicaca seeds was made by hand. The content of crude proteins was
determined according to the Kjeldahl method, while for starch measurement the Ewers
polarimetric method was used. Obtained results showed that the yield of plants Titicaca
genotype (24.4 g/plant) was higher compared to the yield of plants Puno genotype (21.3
g/plant). Our results did not show significantly different values in protein content between the
seeds of Puno (14.1%) and Titicaca (14.0%). Also, the seeds of Titicaca and Puno contained
similar starch content (54.1 and 55.6%, respectively). These results indicate that both
investigation genotypes can be grown in Serbian agroecological conditions.

AB - Eranthis hyemalis is a critically endangered species in Serbia, where it is protected by national law. The only confirmed finding place of the species in Serbia was the Bagremara forest near Backa Palanka. It was assumed that the species disappeared from other recorded localities, or else the data were not confirmed. During a field study in 2016, we registered this species in Valjevo, a town in Western Serbia. A previous record of the species at this locality dates from 1992, but the precise location was not known. We also registered a small population in Eastern Serbia (on the hill Vrska Cuka). Both localities were georeferenced with GPS devices. Small groups of individuals are present at these locations, and they are endangered by multiple factors. All chorological data for Serbia are presented on a UTM grid map with squares of 10 km x 10 km. Protection measures are urgently required.

AB - The use of thermal imaging is a fast growing and potentially important tool in various fields of agriculture. The technology visually identified the rise of temperature in crop canopy which occurs as a result of drought and allows the precise scheduling of crop irrigation. The aim of presenting paper was to demonstrate the application of these techniques on potato plants and to point out on the necessity of irrigation for potato sustainable and economically justified production.

abstract = "The use of thermal imaging is a fast growing and potentially important tool in various fields of agriculture. The technology visually identified the rise of temperature in crop canopy which occurs as a result of drought and allows the precise scheduling of crop irrigation. The aim of presenting paper was to demonstrate the application of these techniques on potato plants and to point out on the necessity of irrigation for potato sustainable and economically justified production., Korišćenje termalne infra-crvene termografije je u ekspanziji i sve više nalazi primenu u različitim oblastima poljoprivrede. Ovom tehnologijom se može vizuelno identifikovati porast temperature kod biljaka izloženih suši i to zatim omogućava precizno planiranje i optimalnu primenu navodnjavanja. Cilj ovog rada je da se demonstrira primena ovih tehnologija na biljkama krompira i da se ukaže na neophodnost navodnjavanja u održivoj i ekonomski opravdanoj proizvodnji krompira.",

AB - Knowledge of weed soil seed bank is of great importance for forecasting weediness for next years. Crop rotation and tillage are two primary practices that have an impact on soil seed bank. In our study, soil samples were taken in order to evaluate the size and species composition of the weed seed bank in the soil on plots under different growing systems: monoculture of corn of about 40 years, crop rotation of corn, wheat and soybeans with different variations of fertilization. Samples were collected during October, using probe (diameter 5 cm) in a layer of 15 cm. Four soil samples collected from 10 sampling points were taken from each of 7 plots. Seeds were extracted from the soil by washing and were determined and counted. Next year (during August) weediness (abundance and species composition) evaluated in the same plots. The weed seed bank was dominated by Chenopodium album, Amaranthus retroflexus, Datura stramonium, Sorghum halepense in all treatments. In the plots which were under wheat in the previous year, beside the listed species, seeds of species characteristic for grain crops were also present as dominant. The higher number of seeds was observed in treatments where manure was applied. In the unfertilized treatments the seed bank was higher and represented by a higher number of weed species than in other plots. Composition of weed species emerged in the next year were in accordance with results of seed bank analysis and the fact that the investigated plots were seeded to maize. In fact, the dominant species were those typical of row crops.

AB - The aim of this study was to examine the content of total soluble solids, organic acids and lycopene in fruits of different tomato genotypes grown in organic production. Four different genotypes (Volovsko heart Red cherry, Tigrella and Viva) were used during this experiment. The quality of tomato fruits was analyzed based on the measurement of total soluble solids, organic acids and lycopene in fresh weight of the fruit. The values obtained for the analyzed parameters of fruit quality were as follows: total soluble solids 4.98, 5.26, 5.28 and 4.70 (° Brix), organic acids 160.67, 110.34, 132.77 and 116 (citric acid µmol g-1 FW), lycopene, 8.22, 5.70, 7.61, 9.21 (mg kg-1 FW) in genotypes Volovsko srce, Red cherry, Tigrella and Viva. Oscillations in the obtained parameters, especially in the content of lycopene in different genotypes were probably the result of genetic resources, but also the influence of abiotic factors.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fiber post light transmitting ability to the continuity of resin cement-root dentin (C-RD) and resin cement-fiber post (C-FP) interface, elastic modulus and hardness of a dual-cure resin cement. Methods. Spectrophotometric measurements were applied for the determination of light transmission at coronal, middle and apical level as well as at the apical tip through Tech 21 X-OP (TECH) and DT Light Post (DT). Posts were cemented using dual-cured resin cement (Calibra). Roots were sectioned longitudinally through the post. Epoxy resin replicas were made and used to evaluate C-RD and C-FP interface under SEM. Modulus of elasticity (E) and Vicker's hardness (VH) of the cement layer were assessed. Results. No light transmission was detected through TECH. Light transmission through DT decreased from coronal to apical and rose at the apical tip. TECH presented a significantly lower percentage of continuous C-RD and C-FP interface in comparison to DT. Coronal third of C-RD interface in TECH specimens had a significantly higher percentage of continuity than apical third. No regional differences in continuity of C-RD interface were found in DT specimens. E and VH were significantly lower when TECH was used, and decreased from coronal to apical for both posts. Significance. Cementation of fiber post with no light transmitting ability using a dual-cured resin cement resulted in lower E and VH of the cement layer, and lower percentage of continuous C-RD and C-FP interface in comparison to cementation of light transmitting fiber post.
