Variability of body measures of domestic Balkan ass young bred in Southern Serbia

Abstract

With this research we have rounded 20 female and 11 male young of Domestic Balkan ass of average age around 2 years, bred in the area of Stara planina, the southern Serbia. Determined average values of external measures were: body height (100,15 cm - ♀; 100,27 cm - ♂), body length (101,30 cm - ♀; 101,27 cm - ♂), chest volume (105,45 cm - ♀; 105,64 cm - ♂) and tibia circumference (11,80 cm - ♀; 11,82 cm - ♂) were within standard for Balkan ass breed. Based on calculated body indexes it can be concluded that it is square type of ass, of relatively compact body, adjusted to the mountain breeding conditions and of solid constitution. Results of conducted research show that it is necessary to pay more attention to the number of animals of all categories, then to quality of reproductive animals and offspring, specially to their productive and reproductive characteristics, breeding aims, especially to introducing the strict application of specified selection methods.

Istraživanjima je obuhvaćeno 20 grla ženskog i 11 muškog podmlatka balkanskog magarca, prosečne starosti oko 2 godine, gajenih na području Stare planine, odnosno u južnoj Srbiji. Utvrđene prosečne vrednosti eksterijernih mera: visina grebena (100,15 cm - ♀; 100,27 cm - ♂), dužina trupa (101,30 cm - ♀; 101,27 cm - ♂), obim grudi (105,45 cm - ♀; 105,64 cm - ♂) i obim cevanice (11,80 cm - ♀; 11,82 cm - ♂) su bile u okviru standarda balkanskog magarca. Na osnovu izračunatih indeksa telesne razvijenosti može se zaključiti da se radi o tipu magarca kvadratnog oblika, relativno zbijenog trupa, prilagođenog planinskim uslovima gajenja i čvrste konstitucije. Rezultati sprovedenih istraživanja ukazuju na to da je potrebno posvetiti veću pažnju povećanju broja grla svih kategorija, zatim kvalitetu priplodnih grla i podmlatka, odnosno njihovim proizvodno - reproduktivnim karakteristikama, pravcu odgajivanja, ali i uvođenju i strožijoj primeni odgovarajućih selekcijskih metoda.
