Biological properties of Serbian apricot cultivars and selections grown in the region of Belgrade
Biološke osobine domaćih sorti i selekcija kajsije gajenih u beogradskom Podunavlju
Abstract
Properties of seven new apricot cultivars and selections in the region of Belgrade during the period of 1995-2003 were studied. The control cultivar was 'Hungarian Best' as the most grown apricot cultivar in Serbia. The average blooming time of investigated cultivars was the end of March and the beginning of April. Considering the time of maturing, three groups of cultivars could be distinguished: early ('Novosadska Rana' and 'Fruškogorska Rana'), mid-seasom ('Vera', 'Biljana' and 'NS-3') and late (NS-4 and NS-5). The productivity of studied cultivars and selections was higher in comparison with control cultivar, with the exception of cultivar 'Vera'. Fruit weight ranged from 44.7 g ('Hungarian Best') to 62.1 g ('NS-4'). The contents of soluble solids, total sugars and total acids ranged from 12.94-17.54%, 10.03-12.09% and 1.02-1.35% respectively. Generally, the best results were shown by cv 'NS-4', which distinguish itself for large fruit and attractive appearance, but also good produ...ctivity and fruit quality.
