Implementation of GLOBAL GAP standard: Important precondition for placement of fresh fruit on domestic and foreign market
Implementacija GLOBAL GAP standarda - važan preduslov za plasman svežeg voća na domaće i inostrano tržište
A common standard of farm management created by technical representatives of several European supermarket chains is GLOBAL GAP (previously known as Eurep GAP). It is an equal partnership of agricultural producers and retailers which want to establish certification standards and procedures for Good Agricultural Practices. The Global GAP standard is primarily designed to maintain consumer confidence with regard to the quality and safety of fresh products (fruits and vegetables). Since, its implementation has exceeded the border of European markets, Serbia and some other developing countries should help producers to meet this standard in order to sustain in more competitive markets. However, there are some obstacles to Global GAP implementation, such as: low level of producers awareness, poor understanding of GAP requirements, small farms and lack of direct link with the market place. The main goals of this work are to review existing knowledge regarding to GAP system at the national and ...international level, to analyze Global GAP standard implementation in the Republic of Serbia and to determine the advantages for whole food chain participants.
