Comparative investigations of some tobacco mosaic virus isolates from different host plants
Abstract
Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) isolates from pepper (isolate M5), sugar - beet (Bać and Kovin) and sunflower (Panašir, Sl/94 and Opovo) were compared in these investigations. As standards, isolates Juretić (type strain isolated from tobacco), NŠ̌ (chilly pepper necrotic strain), FO and P8 (strains isolated from pepper) were also included. Bioassay and serological methods compared investigated isolates and standards. Serological analyses were performed using agar double diffusion and electro - blot immunoassay (EBIA, Western blot). On the basis of the reaction of test plants and antigenicity, investigated isolates may be divided into two groups. The isolate M5 (from pepper), Kovin (sugar - beet), Panašir, Sl/94 and Opovo (sunflower) are very closely related to the TMV type strain (isolate Juretić). The isolate Bać (from sugar - beet) differs from the type strain as well as from the other strains used in this study as standards (NŠ, FO and P8). Differences of Bač isolate as well as NŠ, FO an...d P8 obtained by bioassay were confirmed by serological analyses.
