AB - Information on the concentration of dust particles is an important microclimate parameter that characterizes the local environmental quality of each livestock building. Increased concentration of dust particles primarily affects the indoor air quality and, consequently, the animal and workers health. Among many others, ventilation rate is a vital parameter that controls the spatial distribution of airborne dust particles in livestock buildings. This was the main motive for authors of this paper to research the influence of rotation rate of under-roof axial fans (i.e. the air flow rate) on airborne dust particles distribution crossover the barn specified for tied cows breeding. During a series of performed experiments, six different air flow rates have been maintained in the range between 0 m3·h-1 and 48000 m3·h-1. Flow rate has been controlled by special electronic control unit, which provided six different rotation rates of two under-roof fans, including the neutral regime (natural ventilation only). Measurements have been performed at four typical height levels (0,5 m; 1,0 m; 1,5 m and 2,0 m), cross-over the three lateral and four longitudinal characteristic building sections. Consequently, 48 measuring points were appropriately selected, in order to cover the indoor space in adequate way. Comparative analysis of air flow velocities and dust concentrations showed that this fan setup may give satisfactory results under adequate operational regime. Certain working regimes were recommended for use, and the third rotation rate step, generating the airflow of 37300 m3·h-1 or indoor air exchange level of approximately 25 h-1, has been found as the most suitable.

AB - The plant cell walls play an important role in defining the shape and size of the plant cell, matter flow regulation, mitigation of environmental influences and achievement of homeostasis, as well as in defense and protection against pathogens in plant tissues and organs. This paper presents an original approach to the establishment of the mathematical model based upon the former study dealing with the surface nano-roughness distribution of the model cell wall. The differential equation accompanied with the appropriate additional conditions, which describes such kind of distributions, has been formulated and presented. The developed model was tested using the already reported experimental data of an artificial cell wall, made of polysaccharides based on bacterial cellulose supplemented with xyloglucan and pectin (BCPX) that imitate properties of the natural cell wall. It has been demonstrated that proposed differential equation, has an analytical solution in the form of the normal Gaussian distribution, which describes the surface roughness of cell walls made of this material accurately.

AB - Diatomaceous Earth, also known as diatomite, diatomaceous silica, or kieselguhr is the material of natural origin which is composed of the skeletons of diatoms, single-celled algae, which are accumulated in huge beds. Some diatomite's are industrially processed and used for different applications most frequently as filter aid. Particle size distribution of any filter granulation, composed of these materials, has to be appropriately prepared. A mathematical model of particle size distribution of a kieselguhr granulation is presented in this paper and experimentally verified. Particle sizes of a kieselguhr granulation are measured by the microscopic morphometric method, ordinarily used in the experimental microbiology, and the empirical probability density function (pdf) of particle sizes is formulated Experimental pdf data are fitted according to the exponential function, which represents a solution of a developed model of differential equation. The fitting procedure followed the iterative algorithm of Levenberg-Marquardt to adjust the parameter values. This way, an experimentally determined pdf can be approximated with an analytic function with a small number of constants in the adopted model of fit function. This approach facilitates further modeling and analysis of filtering mediums. Based on the particle sizes, pdf's of different kieselguhr, and perlite granulations, it is possible to determine an optimal medium mixture (containing different filtration granulations), depending of the filtration requirements.

AB - When filtering products with a high level of non-soluble solids and containing filtration-inhibiting substances, a variety of different filter aids can be used. Among others, kieselguhr and perlite are possible materials for this purpose. The selection of the granulation that should be applied depends on the filtered liquid medium and the desired retention level. While perlite is most commonly used for rough filtration, kieselguhr is also suitable for more subtile filtration. In the paper, particle size distributions of three kieselguhr granulations and a perlite granulation are analysed. Particle sizes are measured by the morphometric method commonly used in the microbiology. Basic statistic parameters are calculated for all considered samples and compared. The applicability of hyperbolic and log-hyperbolic functions, in describing the particles size distributions of these granulations is verified. Depending on the imposed filtration requirements, this approach enables simple modelling and composition of a wide variety of different granulations characterised by appropriate particle size distributions from a few available granulations.

AB - A novel mathematical model for the tractor engine durability, based on the appropriate differential equation and conditions, is formulated and presented in this paper. Its practical applicability is experimentally verified for the tractor type Massey-Ferguson 8160. The probability density function of the engine's lifespan, as long as the overhaul is needed, is established and approximated by normal Gaussian function. abstract = "A novel mathematical model for the tractor engine durability, based on the appropriate differential equation and conditions, is formulated and presented in this paper. Its practical applicability is experimentally verified for the tractor type Massey-Ferguson 8160. The probability density function of the engine's lifespan, as long as the overhaul is needed, is established and approximated by normal Gaussian function. Fitting coefficients are evaluated through the non-linear fitting of empirical data by Levenberg-Marquardt numerical algorithm.",

AB - To reach fruit market standards, quality evaluation has to be performed. Computer assisted fruit image analysis represents a technique, which offers a variety of automatic and semi-automatic procedures that can be used in combination with classic evaluation methods. To achieve this goal, a digital parameterization method for single apple fruit (Malus domestica) size, shape and surface spottiness has been recently developed. The appropriate mathematical procedures, defining the criteria for the fruit quality parameterization, are also defined and tested. The concept of the method, as well as the initial testing results, is presented in this paper. Basically, the technique combines analysis of apple fruit 256 gray-scale level images and parameterization algorithm of fruit quality. The former is based on digital pattern recognition method (DPR), and the latter employs linear fitting and numerical integration of DPR output data. This way, accurate parameterization of the fruit size, shape and surface spottiness, as well as the reliable fruit sorting according to the product quality, is enabled.
