AB - Calendula.officinalis is a medicinal plant species known for centuries and it is
widely used in cooking, medicine and numerous processing industries. In an
attempt to improve the productive properties of C. officinalis in pots, an
experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the Institute for Medicinal
Plants Research "Dr. Josif Pančić" Belgrade, Serbia. This work aimed to examine
the influence of organic growth biostimulators on the flower and seed yield
parameters of C. officinalis grown under semi-controlled conditions.
The experiment contained two treatments by priming C. officinalis seeds for 20
minutes, organic biostimulators (EkoBooster1 - E and Algo Fast - A) and one
control treatment (K) in distilled water.
The results of the experiment showed that the yield parameters during the first
four harvests were significantly better in the treatments with biostimulators, while
in the later harvests the yield parameters were better in the control treatment. In
contrast to the treatments with biostimulators (A) and (E), the yield of seeds per
plant (9.2 and 8.9) was significantly better in the control treatment (K-12.8), while
the percentage of germinated seeds did not differ significantly between treatments
(A:91.3 %; E: 90.2%; K: 92.4%). The outcome of this study shows us that
biostimulators have a positive effect on the parameters of marigold flower yield
in the initial stages of harvest, while they did not have an excessive effect on seed
yield.

AB - In the present study, rosehip (Rosa canina L.) extract was successfully encapsulated in phospholipid liposomes using a single-step procedure named the proliposome method. Part of the obtained liposomes was subjected to UV irradiation and non-treated (native) and UV-irradiated liposomes were further characterized in terms of encapsulation efficiency, chemical composition (HPLC analysis), antioxidant capacity, particle size, PDI, zeta potential, conductivity, mobility, and antioxidant capacity. Raman spectroscopy as well as DSC analysis were applied to evaluate the influence of UV irradiation on the physicochemical properties of liposomes. The encapsulation efficiency of extract-loaded liposomes was higher than 90%; the average size was 251.5 nm; the zeta potential was -22.4 mV; and the conductivity was found to be 0.007 mS/cm. UV irradiation did not cause a change in the mentioned parameters. In addition, irradiation did not affect the antioxidant potential of the liposome-extract system. Raman spectroscopy indicated that the extract was completely covered by the lipid membrane during liposome entrapment, and the peroxidation process was minimized by the presence of rosehip extract in liposomes. These results may guide the potential application of rosehip extract-loaded liposomes in the food, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic industries, particularly when liposomal sterilization is needed.

AB - Wild garlic (Allium ursinum L.) has been used as nutrition and medicine for centuries. Although this plant species is a typical spring geophyte that grows spontaneously in moist, steep, shady beech forests, but information on phytochemical and antioxidant properties under various soil types are scarce. This study aimed to assess the phytochemical composition and antioxidant potential of the leaves of A. ursinum grown on different soil types, but under identical climatic conditions of South Banat, Serbia. For the purpose of reproduction, A. ursinum bulbs were collected from two different locations in Serbia and then planted on different types of soil, namely: Arenosol, Fluvisol, Cambisol and Chernozem. Fresh leaves of sprouted plants were sampled at the beginning of spring, morphologically analysed and stoma was counted. The leaf extract was prepared and its phytochemical composition and antioxidant potential were assessed. Regardless of the origin of the reproductive material (bulbs), the leaves of A. ursinum plants cultivated in Chernozem soil had the best morphological characteristics and the largest number of stomata. Phytochemical analyses revealed the following ranges for selected bioactive compounds (expressed on fresh weight, FW): chlorophyll content (289.9-642.4 μg/g for chlorophyll a i.e. 358.2-458.6 μg/g for chlorophyll b), total carotenoid content (TCC, 91.2-263.2 μg/g), total phenolic content (TPC, 1.43-1.98 mg/g GAE), total flavonoid content (TFC, 0.36-1.28 mg/g QE), and total dihydroxycinnamic acid derivative content (HCA, 0.53-0.59 mg/g CGAE). The highest values were obtained on Chernozem (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and TPC and HCA) and Cambisol (TCC and TFC). Chernozem appeared to be the best soil type during three applied standard antioxidant assays (CUPRAC, TAC and FRP) while DPPH radical quenching assay revealed no significant differences among all examined soil types. Based on the obtained results it could be assumed that Chernozem exhibited the most desirable physico-chemical properties for optimal development of A. ursinum (in particular its green parts) as a source of different antioxidants. Correlation analysis of phytochemical parameters has proved significant influence of total chlorophylls, phenolics, flavonoids and duhydroxycinnamic acid derivatives on antioxidant activity of A. ursinum leaves (unlike total carotenoid content) with the highest correlation between HCA and FRP assay (r2= 1.00). In addition, PCA analysis clearly determined Chernozem type of soil as the best choice for optimal leaf growth and development. © 2023,Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. AB - Secale cereale L. is second important bread grain, after wheat, and an economically important crop for functional food. Rye production parameters in world and in Serbia were analysed in this study and quality parameters. The average rye area (4.28 mill. ha) and production (12.12 mil.t) in world, in the five- year period, recorded a growth trend and average grain yield was 3.01 t ha-1. In 2020 in the Republic of Serbia, the average grain yield of rye was 3,23 t ha-1. Rye is considered a healthy cereal due to its high content of dietary fiber and is a rich source of vitamins B and E, minerals: Ca, Fe, F, P, K, Zn, Mn, Cu, K, which is why it is a suitable raw material for the production of functional food. Rye foods have beneficial effects on insulin, which may have positive implications for diabetes prevention. Development of innovative and tasty rye products is crucial in increasing awareness, consumption of rye foods and thus production

AB - IntroductionThe aim of this study was to find the best conditions for the extraction of rutin and quercetin from Sophora flower in acacia honey as an extractant, and to formulate a new product – honey with added value.MethodsFor determination of the optimal extraction conditions of the above mentioned compounds, 10% m/m of the dried Sophora flower was added to honey and the concentration of rutin and quercetin was monitored, at 4 °C and room temperature at 1, 15, 40 and 90 day intervals. The analyses of rutin and quercetin content in honey were performed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection. The content of rutin and quercetin in the flower was also determined to check the quality of the herbal drug used, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of the extraction.ResultsThe extraction of rutin and quercetin, in a honey sample using 10% of the Sophora flower, stored at room temperature, for 40 days, was the most intense one (150.24 mg/kg of rutin and 1338.93 mg/kg of quercetin). Sophora flower corresponds to the pharmacopoeia requirements for the quality of an herbal drug. The concentrations of rutin and quercetin in acacia honey were 0.08 and 0.14 mg/kg, respectively. The concentration of rutin in honey from the melliferous pasture of the Sophora flower was 0.40 mg/kg, while quercetin was below the detection limit (0.1 mg/kg).ConclusionsHoney, enriched with rutin and quercetin from Sophora flower, had sensory acceptability and pleasant taste and aroma.

AB - The research was conducted at the end of February 2021 in the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr Josif Pančić" in Belgrade, with the aim of analyzing the impact of growth bioregulators on the seed germination potential of some medicinal and aromatic plant species. Germination potential of Ocimum basilicum, Levisticum officinale, Calendula officinalis and Coriandrum sativum were analyzed following the ISTA guidelines. The seeds were treated with liquid growth bioregulators Ekobuster 1 and Slavol S for 10 minutes, while seeds in the control were treated with distilled water. Seeds of Ocimum basilicum, Levisticum officinale, Calendula officinalis and Coriandrum sativum treated with three different treatments: Ekobuster1, SlavolS and distilled water, were sown in three different containers. The seeds were sown in styrofoam containers with 160 cells with a mixture of peat moss substrate. The experiment was performed in the laboratory conditions. Containers were placed inside a polythene tent for plant propagation under artificial lighting and kept under air temperature of 23 oC with occasional wetting of the substrate. During the experiment, seedling emergence and development control as well as their pathogenicity control were performed every seven days. There was no occurrence pathogenicity on the examined plants.Based on the obtained results, germination of Coriandrum sativum seeds treated with Ecobuster 1 was 85%, while in seeds of Ocimum basilicum, Levisticum officinale and Calendula officinalis the highest germination was recorded with the use of Slavol S 82.5%, 90% and 82%, respectively; in relation to control treatment

Determinacija i kvantifikacija korovskih vrsta u usevu
kvalitativne i kvantitativne osobine korova u usevima/zasadima lekovitog bilja gajenih

sprovode korišćenjem agrotehničkih, mehaničkih i fizičkih mera.
Korišćeno je 14 malčeva i to 9 organskih (slama, kora bora, piljevina
bagrema, karton, iglice bora, kukuruzovina, kora bagrema, kompost 1, kompost 2) i 5
sintetičkih (biorazgradiva vodopropusna folija, pvc crna vodopropusna folija, pvc
srebrno-crna folija, pvc crna folija i tkana folija). Pitoma nana je zasnovana u jesen,
sadnjom stolona u redove (razmak od 0,7 m). Malčevi su postavljeni u rano proleće
naredne godine u vreme nicanja pitome nane.
trajanja ogleda i b) korovi uklonjeni tek pred žetvu nane. Površina jednog tretmana je
iznosla 7,2 m2.

trajanja ogleda i b) korovi uklonjeni tek pred žetvu nane. Površina jednog tretmana je
iznosla 7,2 m2.

AB - Freeze drying was compared with spray drying regarding feasibility to process wild thyme drugs in order to obtain dry formulations at laboratory scale starting from liquid extracts produced by different extraction methods: maceration and heat-, ultrasound-, and microwave-assisted extractions. Higher total powder yield (based on the dry weight prior to extraction) was achieved by freeze than spray drying and lower loss of total polyphenol content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) due to the drying process. Gelatin as a coating agent (5% w/w) provided better TPC recovery by 70% in case of lyophilization and higher total powder yield in case of spray drying by diminishing material deposition on the wall of the drying chamber. The resulting gelatin-free and gelatin-containing powders carried polyphenols in amount ~190 and 53-75 mg gallic acid equivalents GAE/g of powder, respectively. Microwave-assisted extract formulation was distinguished from the others by a higher content of polyphenols, proteins and sugars, higher bulk density and lower solubility. The type of the drying process mainly affected the position of the gelatin-derived -OH and amide bands in FTIR spectra. Spray-dried formulations compared to freeze-dried expressed higher thermal stability as confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry analysis and a higher diffusion coefficient; the last feature can be associated with the lower specific surface area of irregularly shaped freeze-dried particles (151-223 µm) compared to small microspheres (~8 µm) in spray-dried powder.

smanjuju prinos i otežavaju žetvu, a pojedine vrste svojim prisustvom mogu narušiti i
kvalitet krajnjeg proizvoda ukoliko sadrže štetne i nepoželjne materije. Suzbijanje
Pregled i
popis prisutnih korovskih vrsta je obavljen početkom vegetacione sezone 2020.
bokvici 24, u kamilici 34, atričoki 24 i matičnjaku 20), koje uključuju 31 jednogodišnju i
19 višegodišnjih vrsta. U biološkom spektru analizirane flore dominirale su terofite
(62%), dok je učešće terohemikriptofita (14%), hemikriptofita (14%) i geofita (10%)
bilo znatno manje.
vrsta pripadao evroazijskom (14 vrsta), subsrednjeevropskom (9 vrsta) i
subevroazijskom (9) elementu.

AB - Human noroviruses (HuNoV) are the dominant cause of viral gastroenteritis in all age groups worldwide. In this study, we investigated the effects of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) on the reduction of HuNoV in different food models, on surfaces of fresh produce (green onion and cherry tomato), in low-fat milk, and simulated gastrointestinal fluids. The antiviral efficacy of PPE against HuNoV was evaluated by quantifying the number of residual virus genomes using a quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) assay. Pomegranate peel, considered as a waste product of industrial processing, is known for beneficial health effects and broad antimicrobial activity due to the high content of phenolic compounds and tannins. PPE showed significant antiviral properties against HuNoV both in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and simulated gastric fluid. The reduction of HuNoV by pomegranate juice was lower than with PPE, which could be attributed to the lower content of antimicrobial compounds. A pretreatment of cherry tomato and green onion surfaces with PPE significantly reduced the amount of HuNoV particles that adhered to those surfaces during subsequent virus suspension treatment. A detrimental effect of PPE on HuNoV structure was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Our results indicate that PPE is a natural antiviral agent effective against food-borne noroviruses.

AB - Seed health testing aims to ensure a healthy crop and to prevent the spread of plant diseases. The need to study and apply both essential oils and plant extracts against seed diseases is growing and becoming more important. Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual herbaceous, aromatic, spicy and medicinal plant from the Apiaceae family, known for its seeds with a characteristic and pleasant odour. In human medicine, coriander is a part of various medicines for the treatment of digestive organs. Phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria are the most common and significant causes of coriander seed disease. The aim of this study was to assess coriander seed health and investigate the possibility of seed disinfection using peppermint (Mentha x piperita) essential oil. The health of the seeds was examined by the filter paper laboratory standard method. Different concentrations (1, 2, 5 and 10%) of peppermint essential oil were used for seed disinfection. The composition of the essential oil was determined by gas chromatographic analysis. The results of seed health analysis showed the presence of a fungus after seven days of incubation in a humid chamber at room temperature. The fungus was identified as Alternaria sp. (sect. Alternaria) based on the symptoms and macroscopic and microscopic features of the fungus (on seed and potato dextrose agar). Immersion treatment of infected seed in peppermint essential oil reduced the presence of Alternaria sp. on coriander seeds. The highest disease inhibition, 69,33%, namely 58,93% without the influence of the emulsifier, was shown by oil solution of 5%. Stagnation in inhibition was observed with a further increase in oil concentration. The results of this study show the possibility of disinfecting coriander seeds with peppermint essential oil to reduce infection with Alternaria sp.

AB - In this study, we have analyzed the anthocyanin composition of skin extracts of three red grape varieties Prokupac, Evita and Čokot Zemun in order to distinguish these cultivars based on their anthocyanin profile. Also, mechanical analysis of grape bunches and berries was performed. According to our results, seventeen anthocyanins were identified using LC/MS technique and quantitative differences were recorded using HPLC-DAD method. The highest content of total anthocyanins was obtained for Evita variety and the lowest one was recorded in Prokupac. Also, clear differences were observed in anthocyanins ratios. In comparison to Prokupac and Evita varieties, Čokot Zemun was characterized with a high content of coumaroyl derivatives of anthocyanin compounds, while high levels of acetylated derivatives were recorded in Prokupac. Data reported in this study represent a certain contribution to a database of mechanical properties and chemical composition of grape varieties originating from Balkan.

abstract = "In this study, we have analyzed the anthocyanin composition of skin extracts of three red grape varieties Prokupac, Evita and Čokot Zemun in order to distinguish these cultivars based on their anthocyanin profile. Also, mechanical analysis of grape bunches and berries was performed. According to our results, seventeen anthocyanins were identified using LC/MS technique and quantitative differences were recorded using HPLC-DAD method.
