AB - A two-year experiment (1994-1995) to evaluate the effect of organic mulch application on the yield height and structure of potato seed crop (Solarium tuberosum L. cv. Desireé: elite origin Holland) was conducted at Kucay mountain, on the red-brown acidic soil at Permian Sendstone. An application of organic mulch (air-dry material from natural meadows Festucetum falax rubrae), after the ridging of potatoes, resulted in a significant decrease of soil temperature in the area of tuber growth, and the conservation of soil moisture. The results of potato yield height and structure pointed to the significant influence of mulching on the number of tubers and mass per plant. A very significant difference in average potato yield between conventional growing practice (40,191 t.ha-1) and mulching (50,226 t.ha-1) was recognized. No significant differences in total yield between examined years was observed, while in regards to yield structure it was determined that earlier planting (1993) caused structural change and proceeded to seed fraction overgrowth.

AB - During the period between 1993 and 1995, an investigation of the fertilizing effect on the potato yield was conducted on the extremely acidulous pseudoglay (pH in KC1 3.25) in Guča. NJIVAL was applied as a lime source in the quantity of 8 t.ha-1, and LIFOS (origin Lisina, near Bosilegrad, containing 15% P2Os and 22% CaO) in the quantity of 1.2 and 3 t.ha-1. On the basis of different applied lime quantities, the effect of fertilizing with standard nitrogen and potassium was established. Unfavorable soil chemical properties (pH, content of P 2O5, Al, and % V) were considerably improved by the application of a NJIVAL and LIFOS combination, compared to an application of NJIVAL alone. Chemical characteristics of the soil were also corrected to a certain point, first of all, P2O5 with the application of LIFOS in the combination with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers. Potato yields in all variants with NJIVAL and LIFOS applications were statistically quite significantly higher in regard to the control variant and to the variant with NPK fertilizers. The average potato yield of 13.414 kg.ha-1 achieved by the application of LIFOS (3 t.ha-1) and NJIVAL (8 t.ha -1), in combination with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers, represented a yield increase of 44 % apropos to the control variant.

AB - The results of the three-year herbicide efficacy investigation (metribuzin, linuron, and prometryn, combined with bentazone, fluazifop-P-buthyil and pendimethalin) on the potato yield will been presented. The investigated herbicide combinations influenced the species of weed, the number and the biomass decrease. The highest average coefficients of efficacy were attained by the combination: metribuzin + pendimethalin (88,1) and linuron + fluazifop-P-butyil (86,9). Regarding a control plot without herbicide application, all investigated combinations showed significant increase of potato yield. The highest average yields in the period 1991-1993, were achieved by the combination of metribuzin + fluazifop-P-butyl (26,2 t · ha-1) and prometryn + pendimethalin (25,9 t · ha-1), which produced a significant increase with regard to most of the investigated variants. Considerable differences in average potato yield have verified between the years of investigation. The statistically significant interaction between herbicide efficacy and year of investigation was affected by the different effects of the applied herbicide combination on potato yield, depending on various meteorological conditions in the particular years. The strong correlation between potato yield and weediness was concluded upon, for the weed number influence (r = 0,902**) as well as for the weed biomass (r = 0,868**).
