AB - Properties of nine sweet cherry cultivars at the Experimental estate 'Radmilovac' of the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade during the period of 2005-2008 were studied. The purpose of these studies was choosing of the best cultivars for commercial growing. Best results showed cultivar 'Vega', which can be recommended for growing as mostly table cultivar. As dessert cultivar for local markets can be recommended 'Asenova rana'. The cultivars 'Sue' and Emperor Francis' can be recommended for both processing and for fresh market, and 'Drogan's Yellow' as cultivar for processing only.

AB - During 2004-2005, studies were conducted at the Experimental farm 'Radmilovac', a collective strawberry plantation of the Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade. The experiment included seven strawberry cultivars six introduced cvs (Evita, Madeleine, Eris, Selena, Cortina and Favette) and a standard domestic cultivar Čačanska Rana. All cultivars were grown on banks covered with black polyethylene foil, in the form of two-row bands. Cropping (per plant and ha) as well as major parameters of fruit quality (fruit mass fruit dimension, fruit shape index, soluble solids content, sugar content total acids content, ascorbic acid content and pH value of fruit) were studied. The ripening period of all the studied cultivars was an early one and it ranged from 21th to 28th May. The highest yield (33.0-37.7 t/ha) and the best fruit quality (the largest fruit and high content of all chemical compounds) were recorded in cvs Cortina, Madeleine and Eris. These cultivars can be recommended for commercial growing in the region of Smederevsko Podunavlje.

AB - In order to achieve high yields and high-quality fruits in modern commercial plum production, it is necessary to rely on the application of agri - and pomo-technical measures, among which pruning holds the most prominent place. To know how to prune properly, one should know the characteristics of a cultivar's fruiting twigs. Morphological characteristics of fruiting twigs were studied in 20 plum cultivars, at the "Radmilovac" Experimental Estate of the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade. The two-year research (2005-2006) was focused on following characteristics: twig length, number of fruit and vegetative buds and their ratio, as well as the thickness of a year-old shoots and the length of internodes. In the year-old shoots, the average values of the studied indicators varied within the intervals given here: the length ranged from 46.9 cm (Italian Prune) to 71.6 cm (Čačanska Lepotica) the thickness ranged from 6.2 mm (Valjevka) to 8.2 mm (Pacific); the length of the internodes was between 17.9 mm (Zimmer’s Frühzwetsche) and 28.9 mm (Victoria). The number of fruit buds present in the fruits was relatively low - it varied per meter of length from 3.1 (Jelica) to 35.8 (Čačanska Rodna). The average length of spurs was from 1.5 cm (Herman) to 3.8 cm (Italian Prune). The number of fruit buds per 1 m of length in two-year old twigs was comparatively higher, compared to one-year old shoots, and was in the range of 35.3 (Imperial) to 145.8 (Bluefree). The displayed results indicate that in the plum the fruit buds are considerably more present on spurs than on shoots. Cultivars with a higher number of fruit buds per unit length (such as Bluefree, President, Zimmer’s Frühzwetsche, Stanley and Čačanska Rodna) require severe pruning in order to achieve better quality fruits and prevent the stripping of branches in the crown interior. Unlike them, in cultivars that have a lower number of fruit buds per unit length (Imperial, Jelica Victoria, Italian Prune, Pacific), a lower intensity pruning can be applied.

AB - The plum assortment is dominated by autochthonous cultivars, also known as brandy cultivars, due to the only purpose they have in practice. The cultivars in question are of variable yield, with an average to poor quality of fruit. These cultivars are mostly of a local character, adapted to the local environmental conditions and therefore unique and different in every region of growing. Among the autochthonous cultivars, 'Crvena Ranka' and 'Crveni Piskavac' stand out as cultivars with very good yield and fruit quality, and we chose to study them in this work. The research was conducted during the period 2002-2004, in the region of the Knić municipality. The testing for the plum brandy production was set up in 10 variants (with the stone, without the stone, as well as with various additives such as acid yeast, and pectolitic enzyme, used separately or in various combinations). On the average, the ripening time of the 'Crvena Ranka' and 'Crveni Piskavac' cultivars fell between 5th and 11th August. The average fruit mass ranged from 16.28 g (Crvena Ranka) to 7.60 g (Crveni Piskavac), while the dry matter content was 16.90% (Crvena Ranka) and 15.40% (Crveni Piskavac). The sugar contents ranged from 14.75% to 11.15%, and the total acids were 1.38% and 1.27% respectively. Based on the quantitative chemical analyses of the distillates obtained in respective test variants, as well as the results of committee assessments of sensory characteristics of the plum brandies (performed with an aim to assess organoleptic characteristics of final brandy products), the conclusion was that the 'Crveni Piskavac' cultivar was not suitable as a raw material for the production of high-quality brandies neither alone, nor in a combination with 'Crvena Ranka'. With the 'Crvena Ranka' cultivar, three variants were selected (3, 4 and 5) and assessed as top-quality brandies. These will be recommended to the user for a future production of a brandy, branded 'Šumadijski biser' (The Pearl of Šumadija).

AB - The aim of the paper is to present a study into biological characteristics of plum cultivars with combined traits, grown in the Belgrade region, in order to select the best among them and recommend them for commercial growing. In the period 2003-2005, nine cultivars were studied, five of which were introduced (Victoria, Stanley, Italian Prune, Bluefree and Anna Späth) and four domestic (Čačanska Lepotica, Čačanska Rodna, Jelica and Valjevka). The traits that were studied were the following ones: maturation time, yield level, as well as physical, chemical and organoleptic characteristics of the fruit. On average, the studied cultivars matured from July 21 (Čačanska Lepotica) to August 31 (Anna Späth), whereas the yield level (expressed by points, 1-5) ranged from 1.3 (Italian Prune) to 4.5 (Čačanska Lepotica). The fruit weight fell within 27.75 g (Valjevka) to 47.58 g (Anna Späth) range with the fruit of the majority of the cultivars belonging to the medium-sized category. The fruit shape index ranged from 1.04 (Anna Späth) to 1.39 (Stanley). The average soluble content was between 14.0% (Bluefree) and 19.5% (Jelica), with total sugars ranging from 7.2% (Victoria), to 12.4% (Italian Prune). The contents of total acids varied from 0.68% (Stanley) to 1.01% (Bluefree). The best organoleptic score for fruit appearance was attained by cultivars Čačanska Lepotica and Bluefree, whreas Italian Prune and Čačanska Rodna had the highest scores for the taste. The studied parameters indicate that the overall best traits were demonstrated by the Čačanska Lepotica and Čačanska Rodna cultivars, and the conclusion is that these cultivars should be further spread in commercial orchards, as cultivars with combined traits.

Proučavane su sledeće osobine: vreme zrenja, rodnost, fizičke hemijske i organoleptičke osobine ploda. Na osnovu proučavanih parametara najbolje osobine ispoljile su sorte Čačanska lepotica i Čačanska rodna.
