Determination of Au and Ag from iron ores combining FA and ICP/AES methods

AB  - In this paper, the combination of FA (Flame Analysis of Noble Metals - Cupellation) and ICP/AES (Atomic Emission Spectrometry with Induction Coupled Plasma) methods for determination of Au and Ag in geological samples of iron ore-magnetite was presented. Au and Ag were concentrated with Pb from PbO after desulphurisation and melting process (Pb2+→Pb). Regulus (Pb with noble metals) is then cupellated. The resulting bead-pril after cupellation was dissolved in HNO3 and then in HCl (imperial water: 2HNO3 and 6HCl). After the preparation of standard solutions and a blank test, the ICP/AES recording is performed. The obtained results were compared with those obtained by the classical method of cupellation. The advantages of ICP/AES are excellent detection limits and linear dynamic range as well as a stable and repeating signal which is particularly important for samples of iron tested due to the low content of noble metals.
AB  - U ovom radu je prikazana kombinacija FA (plamena analiza plemenitih metala-kupelacija) i ICP/AES (atomska emisiona spektrometrija sa indukovanom kuplovanom plazmom) metoda za određivanje Au i Ag u geološkim uzorcima rude gvožđa-magnetit. Au i Agse koncentišu sa Pb iz PbOnakon procesa odsumporavanja i topljenja (Pb2+→Pb).Regulus (Pb sa Au i Ag)se kupelira. Dobijena perla-pril nakon kupelacije se rastvara u HNO3 a zatim u HCl(carska voda 2HNO3: 6HCl). Nakon pripreme standardnih rastvora i blank probe vrši se snimanje na ICP/AES. Dobijeni rezultati su poređeni sa rezultatima dobijenim klasičnom metodom kupelacije. Prednosti ICP/AES su odlične granice detekcije i linearni dinamički opseg kao i stabilan i ponovljiv signal što je posebno bitno za uzorke ispitivane rude gvožđa zbog malog sadržaja plemenitih metala.

Application of a copper-selective electrode coated wire type to the determination of copper(II) by potentiometric titrations with ethylenediamine in aqueous and nonaqueous solutions

AB  - In this work, potentiometric titrations of the solution of the Cu(II) ione have been executed with ethylenediamine as complexing agent and the copper selective electrode coated wire type/SCE indicator system in aqueous and nonaqueous solvents. Because of the difficult conditions of the forma­tion of the Cu (II) ethylenediamine complex, due to the presence of parallel reactions influencing the position of the basic balance of the formation of the complex, this study discusses and deduces the equations for the calculation of the constant of the formation of the complex as well as the equations for the calculation of the free ethylenediamine. In all the cases a pronounced extreme of the curve of titration has been remarked in the final phase of the titration, whatever diluent was used. Similar results have been obtained using solvents such as: water, alcohol (methanol, ethanol, buthanol), which was expected having in mind the chemical resemblance of these compounds (polar mollecules), while a sharper extreme was obtained in N,N-dymethylformamide, which was expected as well because of the similar basic characteristics with ethylenediamine. The results obtained by this study show the exceptional advantage of ethylenediamine as complexing agent and also the possibility of the application of the copper selective electrode coated wire type/SCE indicating system for the determina­tion of Cu(II) in aqueous and non-aqueous solvents and for the determination of the constants of the determination of the formation of the ethylenediamine complex. .
AB  - Formiranje kompleksa Cu(II) sa etilendiaminom otežano je postojanjem paralelnih ravnoteža sa reaktantima, koji reagujući sa ligandom, etilendiaminom, ili Cu(II) jonom utiču na položaj osnovne ravnoteže građenja kompleksa. Polazeći od konstatacije da svojstva etilendiaminada gradi stabilne komplekse sa mnogobrojnim jonima u analitičkoj hemiji nisu dovoljno iskorišćena, u ovome radu izvršena je analiza mogućih efekata na položaj ravnoteže građenja kompleksa kao i izvođenje jednačina za ukupnu konstantu obrazovanja B2 i za izračunavanje koncentracije slobodnog etilendiamina. U radu su izvršena potenciometrijska ispitivanja rastvora Cu(II) jona sa etilendiaminom kao kompleksirajućim agensom uz bakar-selektivna elektroda/zasićena kalomelova elektroda (ZKE) indikatorski sistem u vodenim i nevodenim rastvorima. Dobijeni rezultati pokazali su izuzetnu vrednost etilendiamina kao kompleksirajućeg agensa u poređenju sa drugim, konvencionalnim kompleksirajućima agensima, a takođe i mogućnost primene bakar-selektivna elektroda/ZKE indikatorskog sistema za određivanje konstante obrazovanja Cu(en)22+ kompleksa. .

AB  - Due to possibility of contamination of food products caused by a rapid pollution of environment, as a consequence of incidents and accidents, it is necessary to exert a regular and systematic control of the content of heavy metals in tins filled with food products for the purpose of disease prevention and protection of public health. Foodstuffs, which can be of heterogeneous chemical composition contain or a considerable quantity of water, organic acids, sodium-chloride, nitrates, anthocynes, etc. are added which are the potential co rodents of metals in contact with the contents of tins. The contamination of food products in tins can also occur because of a breakthrough of a protective tin lacquer, or a poor quality of a packaging material. The consequence of the corrosion of tins is the increase of concentration of metals, especially heavy metals, the deterioration of organoleptic characteristics of foodstuff and even the perforation of tins. The atomic absorbing spectropholometer is widely used in practice for determining the content of heavy metals because of its high sensitivity (10'6 g and less), accuracy (about 1%), selectivity and the possibility of application in defining the contents of more than 20 elements. The analyzed tins were filled with pasteurized sour cherry, pasteurized apricot mash, pasteurized plum halves and sterilized peas. The aim of this research was to define the content of heavy metals in food kept in lacquered tinplate tins. Furthermore, its aim was also to determine whether the content of heavy metals in foods, upon having been tinned for several months, changes and reaches the legal level and suchlike tins can be used in human nutrition.
AB  - Usled mogućnosti kontaminacije prehrambenih proizvoda zbog rapidnog zagađenja životne sredine, kao posledica incidenata i akcidenata, neophodno je vršiti redovnu i sistematsku kontrolu sadržaja teških metala u konzervama napunjenim prehrambenim proizvodima, u cilju prevencije i zaštite zdravlja stanovništva. Namirnice, koje mogu biti heterogenog hemijskog sastava sadrže, ili im se dodaje znatna količina vode, organskih kiselina, kuhinjske soli, nitrata, antocijana i dr., koji su potencijalni uzročnici korozije metala u kontaktu sa sadržajem konzervi. Do kontaminacije prehrambenih proizvoda u konzervama može doći usled proboja zaštitnog laka konzerve ili lošeg kvaliteta ambalažnog materijala. Kao posledica korozije konzervi, dolazi do povećanja koncentracije metala, naročito teških metala, do pogoršanja organoleptičkih svojstava namirnice, pa i perforacije konzervi. Za određivanje sadržaja teških metala veliku primenu u praksi ima atomski apsorpcioni spektrofotometar, zbog visoke osetljivosti (10-6 g i manje), preciznosti (oko 1%), selektivnosti i mogućnosti primene za određivanje sadržaja preko 20 elemenata. Ispitivane konzerve punjene su pasterizovanom višnjom, pasterizovanom kašom kajsije, pasterizovanom polutkom šljive i sterilisanim graškom. Cilj ovoga rada bio je utvrđivanje sadržaja teških metala u prehrambenim proizvodima koji su se nalazili u konzervama od lakiranog belog lima. Takođe, cilj rada bio je da se utvrdi da li se sadržaj teških metala u prehrambenim proizvodima, nakon višemesečnog stajanja u konzervama, menja i dostiže zakonom dozvoljeni nivo i da li se takve konzerve mogu koristiti u ljudskoj ishrani.

Determination of the corrosion rate in tins filled with peas and string beans during storage

AB  - This paper presents the results of examination of the corrosion behaviour of electrolytic tinplate in model solutions of salts in liquid contents (fills) of peas and string beans tins. The tins have been stored at the temperature of 25°C during the period of 18 months. The obtained results show that the corrosion currents and consequently corrosion rates, too, have higher values in the liquid contents (fills) of the tins than in the pure model solutions. Corrosion currents decrease noticeably in nitrogen atmosphere which speaks in favour of packaging of foodstuff in inert atmosphere. .
AB  - U radu su dati rezultati ispitivanja korozionog ponašanja elektrolitičkog belog lima u model rastvorima soli i tečnom sadržaju (nalivu) konzervi graška i boranije. Na osnovu urađenih ispitivanja promene parametara tokom skladištenja a u model rastvorima i tečnim sadržajima (nalivima) konzervi graška i boranije, može se zaključiti da na proces korozije imaju uticaj komponente koje se nalaze u namirnicama koje su konzervirane, a isto tako i dodaci koji se dodaju u toku procesa proizvodnje. Takođe, ovi procesi su u konzervama vise izraženi za vreme skladištenja nego na početku određivanja. Struje korozije, a samim tim i brzine korozije belog lima, imaju vise vrednosti u nalivima konzervi od onih koje su određene u čistim model rastvorima. Korozivnost opada u sledećem nizu: naliv boranije - naliv graška - rastvor NaCl - rastvor NaCl i NaNO3. Struje korozije se osetno smanjuju u atmosferi azota, što govori u pri-log upotrebe pakovanja namirnice u inertnoj atmosferi. Dobijene - izračunate vrednosti brzine korozije pokazuju da je tokom skladištenja - stajanja 18 meseci brzina korozije nelakiranih konzervi reda veličine 102 i 103 mm/god, što je značajno manje od dopuštene (MDK) vrednosti od 0,12 mm/god, za lakirane konzerve. Na taj način, predpostavlja se da konzerve proizvedene od belog lima iz domaćih fabrika mogu biti bezbedne za čuvanje namirnica tokom višegodišnjeg vremenskog perioda. .

The tins have been stored at the temperature of 25°C during the period of 18 months. Na osnovu urađenih ispitivanja promene parametara tokom skladištenja a u model rastvorima i tečnim sadržajima (nalivima) konzervi graška i boranije, može se zaključiti da na proces korozije imaju uticaj komponente koje se nalaze u namirnicama koje su konzervirane, a isto tako i dodaci koji se dodaju u toku procesa proizvodnje. Takođe, ovi procesi su u konzervama vise izraženi za vreme skladištenja nego na početku određivanja. AB  - The structure of passivization film has an important role in the adhesion of lacquer on the tinplate, and also in further behavior of the can filled with a different content. It is for this reason that the composition of passivization film and its influence on lacquering and adhesion were examined in this work. The composition of passivization film on the tinplate was examined after storage by the application of the AUGER spectroscopy (AES) and by the X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy (ESCA). The results show that the tinplates stored during three years have surface composition and capability of adhesion acceptable for use in food industry. .
AB  - Struktura pasivizacionog filma igra važnu ulogu u adheziji laka na belom limu, a takodje i u daljem ponašanju limenke, napunjene različitim sadržajem. Iz tih razloga, u ovome radu ispitivan je sastav pasivizacionog filma na belim limovima i njegov uticaj na lakiranje i adheziju laka. Sastav pasivizacionog filma na belim limovima nakon njihovog lagerovanja ispitivan je primenom AUGER (Ože) elektronske spektroskopije (AES) i fotoelektronske spektroskopije X-zracima (ESCA). Dobijem rezultati pokazali su da i beli umovi uskladišteni tri godine imaju sastav površine i sposobnost adhezije laka prihvatljiv za upotrebu u prehrambenoj industriji.
