AB  - The impact of various types of uses of Pseudogley soils in southern Mačva and Pocerina on
theiraggregate distributionand stability was studied on soil samples collected from profiles under
forest, meadow and arable land, at three localities. The aggregate composition and stability were
determined by Savinov’smethod. The soil structure was assessed by using Revut’s coefficient of soil
structure (Ks) and Vershinin’s coefficient of soil aggregate structure (KA). The results show that the
studied Pseudogley soils are characterized by an unfavorable structure, while the type of land use has
a significant impact on the aggregate composition and stability, especially in surface Ah and Ahp
horizons, where these differences are the most pronounced. The most favorable aggregate
composition and highest wet-stability are found in Pseudogley profiles under forest vegetation. The
aggregate distribution of meadow profiles was intermediate and of arable land the poorest. Statistical
analysis of the collected data shows that Ks values, determined by dry sieving, were the highest in
forest profiles (2.261.21 on average), while the values for meadow were 1.591.09 and of arable
land 1.140.62. The values of KA, used to assess the aggregate stability to water, also show that forest
Pseudogleys have the highest average values (2.051.03), followed by meadow (1.96 0.99) and
cultivated soils (1.931.22). The results of correlation analysis indicate that Ks is negatively
correlated with clay, pH value and base saturation, but positively correlated with soil humus (r=-0.77,
-0.70, -0.81 and 0.79, respectively, p<0.01). Conversely, KA is negatively correlated with humus and
positively correlated with clay, pH value and base saturation (r=-0.21, 0.82, 0.69 and 0.69,
respectively, p<0.01).

AB  - Water holding capacities and saturated hydraulic conductivity of Planosols in south Mačva and Pocerina (Serbia) were compared to assess how different types of land use (forest, arable and grassland) influence soils endangered by stagnating water. These changes came from decrease of total porosity and changes in pores size distribution in arable and grass land compared to forest land. Changes of water characteristics of arable and grassland Planosols compared to forest Planosols were statistically most significant in illuvial horizon Btg (absence of root network and fauna activity). It is important to emphasize: (i) surface A horizon of arable and grass land compared to forest showed insignificant increase of plant available water and significant decrease of saturated hydraulic conductivity (ii) significant decrease of saturation and macro porosity increased the risk of oxygen deficiency in Planosols in wet periods of year in this order: arable land > grassland > forest.
AB  - Cilj rada je utvrđivanje promena u vodnim kapacitetima i vodopropusnosti planosola na području Mačve i Pocerine zbog pretvaranja šuma u travnjake i njive. Promena načina korišćenja značajno je uticala na vodne kapacitete, ali ne i na vodopropusnost. Generalno u poređenju sa šumama, u njivama i travnjacima je došlo do smanjenja MVK i povećanja vrednosti PVK, LVK i VV. Navedene promene su posledica smanjenja ukupne poroznosti i promene diferencijalne poroznosti. Promene u njivama i travnjacima su najznačajnije u Btg horizontu (odustvo korenovog sistema i faune), zatim u A horizontu (smanjenje korenovog sistema, aktivnosti faune i sadržaja humusa), a najmanje u Eg horizontu (manja promena poroznosti zbog nestrukturnosti). Sa agroekološkog aspekta je važno istaći da u A horizontu njiva i travnjaka u poređenju sa šumama povećanje KPV i smanjenje SHC nije značajno; značajno smanjenje MVK i makroporoznosti povećava rizik od nedostatka kiseonika u vlažnom delu godine ovim redom: njive > travnjaci > šume.

AB  - The scope of this paper was to examine the influence of two subtypes of pseudogley soil (of planes and of slopes) and three different land uses (forest, grassland and arable land) on the content and composition of humus in south Mačva and Pocerina. The humus content was determined by dichromate method, and humus components were measured using the method proposed by Kononova and Belcikova. The studied soils are mostly characterized by low humus content. Humus content is significantly higher in pseudogleys of plains compared to pseudogleys of slopes. Pseudogleys under grass and crops have significantly lower content of humus compared to the pseudogleys under forest. Important characteristic of humus composition of surface horizon is dominant portion of fulvic over humic acids. Pseudogleys of plains have statistically significant higher amount of humic acids. The composition of humus is significantly different in pseudogley under forest compared to pseudogleys under grass and crops: it has more fulvic acids, less humin, and lower Ch:Cf ratio. Changes in pseudogley land use have produced better humus quality.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je ispitivanje uticaja dva podtipa pseudogleja (ravničarskog i obronačnog) i tri načina korišćenja (šuma, travnjak, njiva) na sadržaj i grupno-frakcioni sastav humusa na području južne Mačve i Pocerine. Ispitivana zemljišta generalno karakteriše uglavnom nizak sadržaj humusa. Statistički značajno je sadržaj humusa veći u ravničarskom podtipu pseudogleja u poređenju sa obronačnim. U pseudogleju pod travnom vegetacijom i na obradivim površinama došlo je do statistički značajnog smanjenja sadržaja humusa u poređenju sa pseudoglejom pod šumom. Bitna karakteristika grupno-frakcionog sastava humusa površinskog horizonta je dominacija fulvo nad huminskim kiselinama. Ravničarski pseudoglej sadrži statistički značajno više huminskih kiselina. Sastav humusa se značajno razlikuje u pseudogleju pod šumom u poređenju sa pseudoglejom pod travom i njivom: sadrži više fulvo kiselina, a manje humina i ima uži Ch:Cf odnos. Promena načina korišćenja pseudogleja dovela je do poboljšanja osobina humusa, odnosno donekle dovela do stabilizacije humusa i umanjila njegove inače veoma loše osobine.

Some physico-mechanical characteristics of pseudogley soils of plains and slopes under forest, grassland and arable land

AB  - Physical and mechanical properties of pseudogley soils of southern Mačva and Pocerina, with an emphasis on differences between two (plain and slope) pseudogley subtypes and three types of land use (forest, grassland and arable fields), are given. All changes were tracked throughout all soil horizons. The studied pseudogley soils of southern Mačva and Pocerina are moderately to highly plastic. Plasticity index in the humus (Ah, Ahp) horizon of the soils ranges from 17.52 to 20.38, being the lowest for forest varieties (17.81 to 18.49), slightly higher for grassland (17.52 -19.75) and the highest for arable fields (17.55 to 20.38). In the illuvial pseudogley Btg horizon, the plasticity index reaches its maximum values (30.47 to 39.71), always in the range of high plasticity. A narrow moisture interval (7.79 to 10.21%) in physically mature soil ready for tillage, particularly in the arable horizon, prevents soil tillage and other farming operations for a longer period of time. Pseudogley of plains compared with that of slopes shows higher statistically significant values of the lower plastic limit and linear shrinkage. However, lower statistically significant values of the lower plastic limit, linear shrinkage and moisture content in physically mature soil, and higher values of plasticity index were found in the arable pseudogley horizon, in contrast to forest and grassland pseudogley horizons. Grassland compared with the forest pseudogley horizon has lower statistically significant values of the lower plastic limit and linear shrinkage, and higher plasticity index values.
AB  - U radu su prikazane fizičko-mehaničke karakteristike pseudogleja južne Mačve i Pocerine sa naglaskom na razlikama između dva podtipa pseudogleja (ravničarski i obronačni) i tri načina korišćenja (šuma, trava i njiva). Sve promene su praćene po celoj dubini profila, odnosno svim genetskim horizontima pseudogleja. Plastičnost zemljišta je određivana metodom Atterberg-a; skupljanje zemljišta metodom Filatov-a i fizička zrelost zemljišta za obradu računskim putem. Podaci su statistički obrađeni korelacionom analizom i t-testom u programskom paketu StatSoft, Inc. STATISTICA for Windows, verzija 8, na nivou sigurnosti 95%. Ispitivana pseudoglejna zemljišta južne Mačve i Pocerine su umereno do jako plastična. Vrednost indeksa plastičnosti u humusnom (Ah, Ahp) horizontu ispitivanih zemljišta kretala se od 17,52-20,38, pri čemu su šumski varijeteti pokazali najmanje -vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti, 17,81-18,49, nešto veće livadski, 17,52-19,75, a najveće njivski varijeteti, 17,55-20,38. U iluvijalno-pseudoglejnom Btg horizontu indeks plastičnosti dostiže svoje maksimalne vrednosti, koje redovno variraju u intervalu 'jake plastičnosti' sa Ip-vrednostima > 30 (30,47-39,71). Uzak interval vlažnosti pri fizičkoj zrelost zemljišta za obradu, naročito orničnog (Ahp) horizonta, 7,79-10,21%, onemogućava izvođenje obrade zemljišta i drugih agrotehničkih operacija u širem vremenskom intervalu. Ravničarski pseudoglej, koji se karakteriše većim sadržaj gline i humusa, u poređenju sa obrončanim pseudoglejem je pokazao statistički značajno veće vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti i linijskog skupljanja, dok kod ostalih ispitivanih parametara razlike nisu bile značajne. Njivski pseudoglej, humusom najsiromašniji i najslabije ostruktureni, ima statistički značajno niže vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti, linearnog skupljanja i vlažnosti pri fizičkoj zrelosti zemljišta za obradu, i veće vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti, u poređenju sa šumskim i travnim pseudoglejem. Travni pseudoglej u poređenju sa šumskim ima statistički značajno niže vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti i linearnog skupljanja, i veće vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti.

Plasticity index in the humus (Ah, Ahp) horizon of the soils ranges from 17.52 to 20.38, being the lowest for forest varieties (17.81 to 18.49), slightly higher for grassland (17.52 -19.75) and the highest for arable fields (17.55 to 20.38). In the illuvial pseudogley Btg horizon, the plasticity index reaches its maximum values (30.47 to 39.71), always in the range of high plasticity. A narrow moisture interval (7.79 to 10.21%) in physically mature soil ready for tillage, particularly in the arable horizon, prevents soil tillage and other farming operations for a longer period of time. Pseudogley of plains compared with that of slopes shows higher statistically significant values of the lower plastic limit and linear shrinkage. However, lower statistically significant values of the lower plastic limit, linear shrinkage and moisture content in physically mature soil, and higher values of plasticity index were found in the arable pseudogley horizon, in contrast to forest and grassland pseudogley horizons. Grassland compared with the forest pseudogley horizon has lower statistically significant values of the lower plastic limit and linear shrinkage, and higher plasticity index values., U radu su prikazane fizičko-mehaničke karakteristike pseudogleja južne Mačve i Pocerine sa naglaskom na razlikama između dva podtipa pseudogleja (ravničarski i obronačni) i tri načina korišćenja (šuma, trava i njiva). Sve promene su praćene po celoj dubini profila, odnosno svim genetskim horizontima pseudogleja. Plastičnost zemljišta je određivana metodom Atterberg-a; skupljanje zemljišta metodom Filatov-a i fizička zrelost zemljišta za obradu računskim putem. Podaci su statistički obrađeni korelacionom analizom i t-testom u programskom paketu StatSoft, Inc. STATISTICA for Windows, verzija 8, na nivou sigurnosti 95%. Ispitivana pseudoglejna zemljišta južne Mačve i Pocerine su umereno do jako plastična. Vrednost indeksa plastičnosti u humusnom (Ah, Ahp) horizontu ispitivanih zemljišta kretala se od 17,52-20,38, pri čemu su šumski varijeteti pokazali najmanje -vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti, 17,81-18,49, nešto veće livadski, 17,52-19,75, a najveće njivski varijeteti, 17,55-20,38. U iluvijalno-pseudoglejnom Btg horizontu indeks plastičnosti dostiže svoje maksimalne vrednosti, koje redovno variraju u intervalu 'jake plastičnosti' sa Ip-vrednostima > 30 (30,47-39,71). Uzak interval vlažnosti pri fizičkoj zrelost zemljišta za obradu, naročito orničnog (Ahp) horizonta, 7,79-10,21%, onemogućava izvođenje obrade zemljišta i drugih agrotehničkih operacija u širem vremenskom intervalu. Ravničarski pseudoglej, koji se karakteriše većim sadržaj gline i humusa, u poređenju sa obrončanim pseudoglejem je pokazao statistički značajno veće vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti i linijskog skupljanja, dok kod ostalih ispitivanih parametara razlike nisu bile značajne. Njivski pseudoglej, humusom najsiromašniji i najslabije ostruktureni, ima statistički značajno niže vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti, linearnog skupljanja i vlažnosti pri fizičkoj zrelosti zemljišta za obradu, i veće vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti, u poređenju sa šumskim i travnim pseudoglejem. Travni pseudoglej u poređenju sa šumskim ima statistički značajno niže vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti i linearnog skupljanja, i veće vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti.",

AB  - The examined region of southern Mačva and Pocerina is a typical region of pseudoglay soil type in Serbia, which extends over the surface of about 18,000 ha. Soil texture examinations have encompassed the samples of Ah or Ahp, Eg, Btg, BtgC and C horizon, 15 pseudogley profiles of plains and 12 pseudogley profiles of slopes covered in forest, grassland and arable land. Pseudogley soil of southern Mačva and Pocerina is characterized by disadvantageous soil texture which manifests in high content of silt in Ah and Eg horizons, high content of clay in illuvial horizon and moderate content of sand fraction in elluvial and lower illuvial horizon. The clay ratio in Btg and Ah horizon varies from 1.2 to 2.1, which means that the examined pseudogley soil of southern Mačva and Pocerina is slightly less profile differentiated in texture in comparison with other pseudogley soil of western and northwestern Serbia, northern Bosnia, eastern Croatia, Kosovo, Metohia and Macedonia. The analysis of average clay content variance has indicated that there are no statistically significant differences in its content among different soil subtypes (plain and slope) and types of land use (forest, grassland and arable land), and that such differences are significant among certain horizons, which is the consequence of elluvial-illuvial migration especially typical of this soil type.
AB  - Istraživano područje južne Mačve i Pocerine predstavlja jedan od tipičnih rejona rasprostranjenja zemljišta tipa pseudoglej u Srbiji, a zauzima površinu od oko 18.000 ha. Ispitivanja mehaničkog sastava su izvedena na ukupno 27 profila zemljišta i to: 15 profila ravničarskog (5 pod šumom, 5 pod travom i 5 pod njivom) i 12 profila obronačnog pseudogleja (4 pod šumom, 4 pod travom i 4 pod njivom). Uzorci su uzeti iz Ah ili Ahp, Eg, Btg, BtgC i C horizonata pseudogleja (ukupno 135). Mehanički sastav zemljišta određen je u laboratoriji pipet metodom, priprema uzoraka sa natrijum pirofosfatom, a statistička obrada podataka analizom varijanse sa tri faktora (podtip, način korišćenja i genetski horizont). Pseudoglejna zemljišta južne Mačve i Pocerine karakterišu se nepovoljnim mehaničkim sastavom, koji se manifestuje u visokom sadržaju frakcije praha u Ah i Eg horizontima (u površinskom Ah ili Ahp horizontu većine analiziranih profila u proseku >45%, a u Eg horizontu >40%), zatim visokom sadržaju frakcije koloidne gline u iluvijalnom horizontu (prosečno 37,41%), i osrednjim sadržajem frakcije peska u eluvijalnom i nižem iluvijalnom horizontu. Na osnovu odnosa sadržaja koloidne gline u iluvijalno-pseudoglejnom, Btg horizontu i površinskom, Ah horizontu, koji se kreće od 1.2-2.1 (najčešće 1.3-1.8, u 22 profila), može se konstatovati da se istraživana pseudoglejna zemljišta južne Mačve i Pocerine karakterišu nešto slabijom teksturnom diferenciranošću profila, u poređenju sa drugim pseudoglejnim zemljištima zapadne i severozapadne Srbije, severne Bosne, istočne Hrvatske, Kosova i Metohije i Makedonije. Analiza varijanse prosečnog sadržaja koloidne gline pokazala je da ne postoje statistički značajne razlike u njenom sadržaju između različitih podtipova i načina korišćenja zemljišta, a da su te razlike značajne između pojedinih horizonata, što je posledica eluvijalno-iluvijalne migracije izražene kod ovog tipa zemljišta.

Aggregate composition and the stability of structural aggregates of pseudogley in South Mačva

AB  - Aggregate composition and the stability of structural aggregates were researched in field variety of lowland pseudogley in South Mačva, as the most widely distributed soil in the region. The study results of the aggregate distribution and the stability of structural aggregates, taking into account all depths of the analysed profiles, show that the humus-topsoil (Ahp) horizon, being the most important for plant production, had the most suitable aggregate composition, but simultaneously also the lowest aggregate stability in water. The content of agronomically most favourable aggregates (0.25-10 mm) in Ahp horizon accounted for 81.43-88.44% (average 84.71%). The dominant aggregate sizes in the aggregate mass were between 1 and 5 mm, with the percentage of 34.35-53.67%. Simultaneously, Ahp horizon had the lowest stability of structural aggregates. The content of water stable microaggregates  lt  0.25 mm in this horizon ranged from 34.94-71.30%. The content of water stable aggregates > 0.25mm in Ahp horizon ranged from 28.70 to 65.06% (average 51.86%). The coarser aggregates > 1mm, especially those > 3 mm (0.36-2.82%) had the lowest stability in the aggregate mass. .
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati istraživanja agregatnog sastava i stabilnosti strukturnih agregata ravničarskog pseudogleja, njivskog varijeteta sa područja južne Mačve, kao najrasprostranjenijeg zemljište na ovom području. Rezultati istraživanja agregatnog sastava i stabilnosti strukturnih agregata, uzimajući u obzir sve dubine analiziranih profila pokazali su da humusno-ornični (Ahp) horizont, najvažniji za biljnu proizvodnju, pokazuje najpovoljniji agregatni sastav ali istovremeno i najmanju stabilnost agregata u vodi. Pseudogley plasticity in South Mačva

AB  - Atterberg plastic limit was determined in topsoil (Ahp) and subsoil (Eg, gBt and Btg) horizons of pseudogley in South Mačva, as well as the contents of humus, clay ( lt  0.002 mm), and colloidal activity index (lea). The results of Atterberg plastic limits, taking into account all depths of the profiles under study, showed that the values of upper plastic limits (Wl) varied in a rather wide interval, from 33.28 to 57.88%, and the values of the lower plastic limits (Wp) varied in a considerably narrower interval from 18.04 to 22.82 %. The calculated plasticity index (Ip) varied from 15.24 to 36.70 which, according to Liberoth (1969) classification, characterises moderately to very plastic soils. A very strong correlation coefficient (r - 0.833) between Ip and the clay content ( lt  0.002 mm) indicates that the particle-size distribution, i.e. the clay content, had the decisive effect on the value of plasticity index. High values of plasticity index in the majority of pseudogley profiles in South Mačva are undesirable characteristics from the aspect of tillage and crop yield.
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati određivanja Atterberg-ovih granica plastičnosti u površinskom (Ahp) i podpovršinskim (Eg, gBt i Btg) horizontiraa pseudogleja južne Mačve, kao i rezultati određivanja sadržaja humusa, gline ( lt  0,002 mm) i indeksa koloidne aktivnosti (Ica). Rezultati određivanja Atterberg-ovih granica plastičnosti, uzimajući u obzir sve dubine analiziranih profila, pokazali su da vrednosti gornje granice plastičnosti (Wl) variraju u prilično širokom intervalu, od 33,28-57,88%, dok su vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti (Wp) varilale u znatno užem intervalu, od 18,04-22,82 % Izračunati indeks plastičnosti( Ip) varirao je u intervalu od 15,24-36,70, što je prema klasifikaciji Lieberoth-a (1969) karakteristično za umereno do jako plastična zemljišta. Vrlo jak korelacioni koeficijent (r = 0,833) postignut između Ip i sadržaja gline ( lt  0,002mm) ukazuje, da je mehanički sastav,odnosno sadržaj gline u odlučujućem stepenu uticao na veličinu indeksa plastičnosti. Visoke vrednosti indeksa plastičnosti u većini profila pseudogleja južne Mačve nepoželjna su karakteristika sa aspekta njihove obrade i gajenja biljaka na njima.

abstract = "Atterberg plastic limit was determined in topsoil (Ahp) and subsoil (Eg, gBt and Btg) horizons of pseudogley in South Mačva, as well as the contents of humus, clay ( lt  0.002 mm), and colloidal activity index (lea). The results of Atterberg plastic limits, taking into account all depths of the profiles under study, showed that the values of upper plastic limits (Wl) varied in a rather wide interval, from 33.28 to 57.88%, and the values of the lower plastic limits (Wp) varied in a considerably narrower interval from 18.04 to 22.82 %. The calculated plasticity index (Ip) varied from 15.24 to 36.70 which, according to Liberoth (1969) classification, characterises moderately to very plastic soils. A very strong correlation coefficient (r - 0.833) between Ip and the clay content ( lt  0.002 mm) indicates that the particle-size distribution, i.e. the clay content, had the decisive effect on the value of plasticity index. High values of plasticity index in the majority of pseudogley profiles in South Mačva are undesirable characteristics from the aspect of tillage and crop yield., U radu su prikazani rezultati određivanja Atterberg-ovih granica plastičnosti u površinskom (Ahp) i podpovršinskim (Eg, gBt i Btg) horizontiraa pseudogleja južne Mačve, kao i rezultati određivanja sadržaja humusa, gline ( lt  0,002 mm) i indeksa koloidne aktivnosti (Ica). Rezultati određivanja Atterberg-ovih granica plastičnosti, uzimajući u obzir sve dubine analiziranih profila, pokazali su da vrednosti gornje granice plastičnosti (Wl) variraju u prilično širokom intervalu, od 33,28-57,88%, dok su vrednosti donje granice plastičnosti (Wp) varilale u znatno užem intervalu, od 18,04-22,82 % Izračunati indeks plastičnosti( Ip) varirao je u intervalu od 15,24-36,70, što je prema klasifikaciji Lieberoth-a (1969) karakteristično za umereno do jako plastična zemljišta. Vrlo jak korelacioni koeficijent (r = 0,833) postignut između Ip i sadržaja gline ( lt  0,002mm) ukazuje, da je mehanički sastav,odnosno sadržaj gline u odlučujućem stepenu uticao na veličinu indeksa plastičnosti.
