Correlation of litter size traits

AB  - Heredity and correlation of litter size traits were observed in 3693 litters, i.e. in 1622 daughters of two genotypes Swedish Landrace genotype - SL; and F1 ♀ SLxLW. The study included daughters (minimum ten daughters per sire) of 24 sires. Heritability estimates for the total number of piglets per litter in the first, the first two parities, and for all three parities was 0.174; 0.167 and 0.135. Heritability estimates for the number of piglets born alive were 0.181; 0.160 and 0.121, and for the weight of litter at birth 0.166; 0.174 and 0.150. On the other hand, very low heritability was determined for the number of weaned piglets, litter weight of piglets reared, individual weight of born and reared piglets, i.e. for the traits that are under greater influence of the environment (from 0.004 to 0.037). Phenotypic and genetic correlations ranged from weak to complete (rp = 0.021 to rp = 0.973 and rg=0.188 to rg=0.999, respectively). Analysis of the significance of correlations showed that the genetic correlations were statistically highly significant (P  lt 0.01).
AB  - Naslednost i međusobna povezanost osobina veličine legla praćene su za 3693 legla, odnosno kod 1622 kćeri dva genotipa švedski landras - ŠL; i F1 ♀ŠLxVJ. Ispitivanjem su obuhvaćene kćeri (minimalno deset kćeri po ocu) od 24 oca. Heritabiliteti za ukupan broj prasadi u leglu u prvom, prvom i drugom i za sva tri prašenja iznosio je 0,174; 0,167 i 0,135. Za broj živorođene prasadi vrednosi heritabiliteta su iznosile 0,181; 0,160 i 0,121, dok su za masu legla pri rođenju vrednosti 0,166; 0,174 i 0,150. Sa druge strane utvrđen je jako slab heritabilitet za broj odgajene prasadi, masu legla odgajene prasadi, individualnu masu rođene i odgajene prasadi odnosno za ispitivane osobine koje su pod većim uticajem okoline (od 0,004 do 0,037). Fenotipske i genetske korelacije kretale su se od slabih do potpunih (rp=0,021 to rp=0,973 odnosno rg=0,188 to rg=0,999). Testiranje značajnosti korelacija pokazalo je da su genetske bile statistički visoko značajne (P lt 0,01).

Subacute and subchronic toxicity of Avalon (R) mixture (bentazone plus dicamba) to rats

AB  - Subacute and subchronic toxicity of the herbicide Avalon (R), a mixture of bentazone and dicamba, were tested on rats. Avalon (R) was administered at dose levels of 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg body weight/day for 28 and 90 days. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities were monitored together with biochemistry parameters. The results showed that the mixture caused increases in the activities of ALT, AST and ALP, elevated concentrations of sodium, albumin and albumin/globulin ratio in males. In females, ALT activity, cholesterol and phosphate levels were increased. The changes generally were dose related and, in most cases, females exhibited lower susceptibility than males. The effects of a mixture are, in the most cases, different from the effects of the individual substances. The effects of bentazone were not prevalent which would be expected taking the composition of the mixture into account.

Fatty acid profile of m. longissimus dorsi of Mangalitsa and Moravka pig breeds

AB  - The objective of this study was to determine the chemical composition and fatty acid content in m. longissimus dorsi (MLD) of two indigenous pig breeds (ML - Swallow-belly Mangalitsa and M - Moravka) reared in free range farm conditions and fed complete mixtures used for commercial meat pig genotypes. The body mass of ML and M pigs at slaughter was, on average, 107.14 and 107.61 kg, respectively. In MLD of M pigs, more total fat was measured compared to ML breed (6.96 % compared to 5.10 %, P lt 0.05). Protein content in MLD of ML pigs was higher by +0.92 % (P lt 0.01) compared to M pigs. Male castrates of M pigs had more fat compared to gilts of the same breed (8.64 compared to 5.29 %), and the 3.35 % difference between mean values was statistically significant (P lt 0.05). The breed of pigs influenced the total saturated fatty acids (P=0.011) and mono-unsaturated fatty acid (P=0.003) contents, but not the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (P=0.325). In the case of saturated fatty acids in the MLD of ML and M pigs, the most common were C16:0 (25.05 % and 25.53 %) and C18:0 (12.73 % and 14.40 %). The MLD of M pigs contained 1.67 % more stearic acid compared to ML pigs (P=0.004). Pigs of ML, compared to M pigs, had more C18:1cis-9 (+2.31 %), C16:1 (+0.49 %), C17:1 (+0.10 %) and less C20:1cis-11 (-0.25 %). The content of two essential fatty acids, C18:2n-6 and C18:3n-3, did not vary according to breed or sex of pigs (P>0.05). The n-6/n-3 ratio was higher than optimal (18.7 for breed ML and 13.7 for M).

AB  - The object of this research-developmental project is the production of quality pig halves. By the application of various methods of selection and breeding along with optimal conditions of nutrition, care and keeping carcass quality of breeding animals and fatteners shall be improved. Another aim of the project is the improvement of health state and performance of pigs by securing optimal microclimate factors, keeping conditions and housing system. The economical valorization of quality pig halves shall also be established. The research has been carried out in three breeding stocks (Breeding stock 1 - PKB "IMES" AD, Padinska Skela; Breeding stock 2 - DP "Stari Tamiš", Pančevo; Breeding stock 3 - Institute for Animal Husbandry also one of parties who realize the project) who are all the users of the research results. In the second year of research we worked on the improvement of reproductive traits of breeding pigs as well as fattening and slaughter traits of three-race and four-race crossing breeds, optimal nutrition, possible use of probiotics in the nutrition of piglets and fatteners, preventing of digestive disorders by use of various probiotic populations, establishing microclimate factors and economical indicators in pig production. In the first two research years the results were published in leading scientific journals of national importance, and reported at the international and national scientific meetings. The study displays the published results of the project in question.

AB  - Nutrition of cows is the principal target of every cattle breeder. He must to identify type and quality of differ nutrients, that made it possible for him to choose regularly and to compound quality daily portion. Selection of nutrients of daily potion is influenced by the season, therefore exists the need to divide nutrition on winter and summer. Summer nutrition is superior to winter on attitude of better nutrient quality and of the economic rationality. The most profit way of cattle is keeping them longer on a pasture due to the feed by them selves, moving in the nature and they are explored under the sun influence, that has positively influence on health and decreased of nutrition costs. Completely that green food has any kind of losses from it's food values, and presents the greatest part of quality daily portion that's the final aim of every regular and quality nutrition for all cattle category.
AB  - Ishrana krava glavni je zadatak svakog stočara. On mora da poznaje vrstu i kvalitet raznih hraniva, što mu omogućava da pravilno izvrši izbor i sastavi kvalitetan dnevni obrok. Na izbor hraniva za obrok posebno utiče godišnje doba, pa zbog toga postoji i potreba da se deli na zimsku i letnju ishranu. Letnja ishrana ima značajne prednosti u odnosu na zimsku, kako sa stanovišta boljeg kvaliteta hraniva, tako i sa stanovišta ekonomske opravdanosti. Najunosnije je stoku držati što duže na paši, jer se sama hrani, kreće u prirodi i izložena je uticaju sunca, što povoljno deluje na zdravstveno stanje i umanjuje troškove ishrane. Zelena hrana gotovo da nema nikakvih gubitaka od svoje hranidbene vrednosti i predstavlja najveći deo količine dnevnog obroka, što i jeste krajnji cilj svake pravilne i kvalitetne ishrane svih kategorija u govedarstvu.

AB  - Nutrition of cows in private sector is practiced under mainly unfavorable conditions. Reasons for this are several, primarily it is the breeders' lack of education concerning the principles of adequate nutrition, furthermore, the preparation of animal feed, especially roughage is often of bad quality, and there is also a failure to utilize grazing as the most convenient way to feed all types and categories of cattle. Rotation pasture is almost unpracticed, which is bad, daily portions are not properly balanced, so, dairy cows are insufficiently fed. These are the factors that unfavorably affect not only the proper nutrition, conditions of housing and keeping, but also, the production on the whole.
AB  - Ishrana krava na privatnom sektoru obavlja se u vrlo nepovoljnim uslovima. Razloga za to ima više, a među najvažnijima je nedovoljna edukacija proizvođača o načinu pravilne ishrane, zatim najčešće loš kvalitet spremanja stočne hrane, posebno kabaste, i nekorišćenje ispaše kao najpovoljnijeg načina u ishrani svih vrsta i kategorija u govedarstvu. Gotovo da se i ne koristi pregonska ispaša, što je pogrešno, a dnevni obroci nisu dovoljno izbalansirani, pa muzne krave ostaju najčešće nedovoljno nahranjene. Ovo su faktori koji vrlo nepovoljno utiču, kako na pravilnu ishranu, tako i na način smeštaja, držanje i ukupnu proizvodnju.

AB  - When raising young and pregnant heifers the correct nutrition is of utmost importance. All phases of nutrition must be known. The female calf, after the age of six months, is planned either for fattening or for breeding, which means that nutrition must vary accordingly. Calves that are left for breeding or replacement in a herd are to be fed in several phases, in accordance with their age, starting from the age of six months till the first calving. Meals must be so composed as to provide both the maintenance ration and the daily growth ration, while care should be taken to avoid an excessive fattening of the progeny. The aim of breeding the progeny is not to fatten it, which would be harmful, but to assist it in achieving a normal weight and a natural daily growth rate, relative to its age in the category of a breeding class.
AB  - U odgoju mladih i steonih junica pravilna ishrana je od posebne važnosti i zato se moraju poznavati sve njene faze. Žensko tele posle šest meseci starosti stavlja se u tov ili se ostavlja za odgoj, a to znači da će i tretman ishrane biti drukčiji nego teladi za tov. Telad koja se ostavljaju za odgoj i obnovu stada, hrane se prema uzrastu u više faza, i to od starosti od šest meseci, pa sve go prvog telenja. Obroci moraju biti sastavljeni tako, da udovoljavaju uzdržni deo i deo obroka za dnevni porast, vodeći računa da se ne preforsira u količini hrane, kako ne bi došlo do toga da se podmladak pretovi. Cilj odgoja nije da se podmladak pretovi, što bi bilo štetno, već da ima normalnu težinu i prirodan dnevni prirast prema svojoj starosti u kategoriji grla za odgoj.
