Plant production by the concept of organic agriculture in the world and Serbia: History and current status

AB  - Unlike conventional agriculture, organic farming, as a form of sustainable agriculture, and its production methods preserve and upgrade biodiversity of the soil and biodiversity of the entire ecosystem by protecting the environment, plants, and human health. It appeared at the beginning of XX century in Poland and has been spreading in many countries worldwide ever since. In 2015, this type of agricultural production was implemented at a global level on an area of 50.9 million ha. The largest areas are located in Oceania (22.8 mil. ha) and Europe (12.7 mil. ha), whereas grass areas make up the most, and arable land makes up only 15% there of. In the period 2014-2015, the area increased by 6.5 mil. ha at the global level. In 2015, the largest increase was recorded in Oceania (23.2%) and in 98 countries around the world, while a decrease was recorded in 32 countries. Europe performs ¼ of the world's organic production. In Serbia, organic production makes up 15298 ha (13398 ha belongs to arable land, 1899 ha to meadows and pastures). The largest number of producers is located in Vojvodina, and in Western and Southern Serbia. Cereals have a leading role with a production area of 2182.89 ha. Having in mind the great potentials for organic production in Serbia, experts' plan for the next decade is to increase the area for this type of agricultural production by 20%.
AB  - Organska poljoprivredna proizvodnja, kao vid održive poljoprivrede, za razliku od konvencionalne poljoprivrede, svojim metodama proizvodnje povećava plodnost zemljišta, čuva i unapređuje njegov biodiverzitet, kao i biodiverzitet čitavog ekosistema, štiteći životnu sredinu, zdravlje biljaka, životinja i čoveka, uz primenu najviših standarda kvaliteta proizvodnje. Pojavljuje se početkom dvadesetog veka u Poljskoj, nastavljajući širenje u mnogobrojnim zemljama širom sveta do današnjih dana, te tako, u 2015. godini zauzima površinu od 50.9 miliona ha na globalnom nivou. Najveće površine pod ovim vidom poljoprivredne proizvodnje nalaze se u Okeaniji (22.8 miliona ha) i Evropi (12.7 miliona ha), pri čemu u strukturi površina dominiraju travne površine, a obradive čine svega 15%. Na globalnom nivou, u toku perioda od 2014-2015. godine, površine su uvećane za 6.5 miliona ha. U 2015. godini, najveće uvećanje zabeleženo je u Okeaniji (za 23.2%), kao i u 98 zemalja širom sveta, dok je pad zabeležen u 32 zemlje. U Evropi je skoncentrisana ¼ svetske organske proizvodnje. U Srbiji, organska proizvodnja se odvija na površini od 15298 ha (13398 ha pripada obradivom zemljištu, a 1899 ha livadama i pašnjacima), pri čemu se najveći broj proizvođača nalazi u Vojvodini, a zatim u Zapadnoj i Južnoj Srbiji. Žita, sa proizvodnim površinama od 2182.89 ha, zauzimaju vodeću ulogu. S obzirom na izuzetne potencijale za organsku proizvodnju u Srbiji, plan stručnjaka je da se u narednoj deceniji površine pod ovim vidom poljoprivredne proizvodnje uvećaju za 20%.

Biodiversity and organic agriculture

AB  - Biodiversity on the planet Earth has been threatened for decades, primarily due to human activities. According to current scientific knowledge, the number of species decreases at a rate of 1,000 to 10,000 times higher than in previous times. Even though international strategic goals aim stopping the global changes in the existing biodiversity, it can be concluded that as many as 74 species daily disappear, that is 27,000 species annually, implying the disappearance of 20% of recent species in the next three to four decades. Preserving biodiversity is one of the most important goals of global environmental protection, sought for science and policy to participate in. Adopted Conventions on biological diversity and biodiversity, provide a key indication of progress towards achieving the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity (20112020). Biological diversity necessitates a comprehensive help of modern man, at all levels of operation, in order to preserve and certainly enrich the existing biodiversity. To protect the numerous and very rare species numerous legal regulations, primarily the law on nature protection, must be introduced and strictly observed. The organic production system preserves not only local but also global biodiversity. According to all recent scientific research, this system of agricultural production increases not only the number of different types of organisms, but also their overall growth, with slight variations among different taxonomic groups.
AB  - Biodiverzitet na planeti Zemlji ugrožen je već decenijama, pre svega posledicama ljudskih aktivnosti. Prema dosadašnjim naučnim saznanjima, broj vrsta se smanjuje brzinom od 1000 do 10000 puta većom u odnosu na ranija vremena. Iako je međunarodni strateški cilj zaustavljanje promena u postojećem biodiverzitetu na globalnom planu, činjenica je da svakodnevno nestane čak 74 vrste, odnosno ukupno 27000 vrsta godišnje, što podrazumeva nestanak 20% postojećih vrsta u naredne tri do četiri decenije. Očuvanje biodiverziteta predstavlja jedno od najznačajnijih ciljeva globalne zaštite životne sredine, u čijem ostvarenju učestvuju i nauka i politika. Usvojene Konvencije o biološkoj raznovrsnosti i biodiverzitetu, daju naznaku ključnog napretka ka ostvarenju Strateškog plana za biodiverzitet u periodu od 2011-2020. godine. Biološka raznovrsnost zahteva sveobuhvatnu pomoć savremenog čoveka, na svim nivoima rada, u cilju očuvanja i obogaćivanja postojećeg biodiverziteta. Kako bi se zaštitile brojne i veoma retke vrste, pravni propisi, pre svega Zakon o zaštiti prirode, moraju se uvesti i strogo poštovati. Sistem organske proizvodnje omogućava očuvanje ne samo lokalnog, već i globalnog biodiverziteta. Prema svim dosadašnjim naučnim istraživanjima dokazano je da ovaj sistem poljoprivredne proizvodnje povećava ne samo broj različitih vrsta organizama, već i njihov ukupan rast, sa malim varijacijama između različitih taksonomskih grupa.

Effect of 6-BA+GA((4+7)) and nitrogen fertigation on feathering of 'Golden Reinders' apple nine-month-old nursery trees

AB  - The apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) cultivar 'Golden Reinders' was used to study the effects of mixture of 6-BA and GA((4+7)) (Promalin) and nitrogen fertigation to improve branching of nine-month-old nursery trees grafted on 'M9' rootstock. Promalin was applied three times in June in weekly intervals, in concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg L-1 to the upper third of trees. Nitrogen (N) was injected weekly at total amount of 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha(-1) for season. Obtained results indicated that nursery trees without Promalin treatment were characterized by significantly lower trunk than with Promalin treatments. Application of N through the system in increasing rates significantly contributed to higher values of trunk diameter. Tree leaders were significantly longer in Promalin treatments only when amounts of applied N were above 100 kg ha(-1). However, N influence on height of nursery trees was not confirmed if they were not subjected to Promalin treatment. Total number of feathers and the number of feathers >30 cm were simultaneously increasing with the increase of Promalin rates. The same trend was observed with applying higher amounts of N. Significant interaction effect between Promalin and N confirmed in this study indicates that Promalin treatment has no effect on number of lateral branches without N application. Increasing of Promalin concentrations above 1500 mg L-1 had no significant influence on the number of lateral branches and number of feathers >30 cm, regardless of N amounts.

An Insight Into Selected Properties of Merlot Wines Obtained from Three New Clone Candidates

AB  - Covering the period 2009-2012, the quality of Merlot wines obtained from three new clone candidates (namely Nos. 022, 025 and 029, respectively; fourth phase of clonal selection) developed in the Republic of Serbia was examined. The following parameters were determined: Folin-Ciocalteu (FC) index, pH value, total acidity, volatile acids, aldehydes, esters, relative density and ash. In comparison with the standard Merlot wine (originating from mother vine), FC index (from 35.73 to 37.15) and tasting score (from 17.89 to 17.95) were higher for the wines of all three clone candidates tested. These findings are in good agreement with the observed trend for the viticultural parameters indicating better properties of the new Merlot clone candidates versus mother.

AB  - This work aimed to evaluate the total contents of polyphenolics (the Ribereau-Gayon-Maurie procedure), anthocyanins (using pH differential method) and tannins (the Negre procedure) as well as the content of phenolic acids (using UPLC/MS chromatography), respectively of the wines obtained from three new Merlot clone candidates in the perennial clonal selection. The aforementioned chemical parameters were determined in the samples covering the period 2009-2012. In comparison both with the standard Merlot wine (mother vine) and the wines obtained from other two clone candidates, the Merlot wine of the clone candidate No. 022 was found to have the highest total content of all three examined components 1.89 +/- 0.05g/L (polyphenolics), 185.59 +/- 5.00mg/L (anthocyanins) and 1.11 +/- 0.03g/L (tannins), as well as six phenolic acids including gallic acid (25.49 +/- 0.27mg/L). These findings are in good agreement with the observed trend for the viticultural parameters indicating the clone candidate No. 022 as more promising than mother.

AB  - This work aimed to evaluate the content of selected phenolic natural products in the wine samples made of three new Serbian Cabernet Franc clones ( Nos. 02, 010 and 012, respectively) and mother vine ( used as the relevant standard) during the period 2008-2012. Compared with all other wine samples, the Cabernet Franc wine of the clone No. 010 was found to have the highest total content of polyphenolics ( 1.85 +/- 0.02 g/L) and anthocyanins ( 178.55 +/- 3.75 mg/L). In addition, its Folin-Ciocalteu index ( 36.86 +/- 0.12) stood out among the examined samples. Finally, the same wine was enriched with ellagic and gallic acids ( 3.44 +/- 0.29 and 27.46 +/- 0.21 mg/L, respectively), catechin ( 135.16 +/- 6.47 mg/L) and epicatechin ( 51.33 +/- 2.33 mg/L), the natural products known to exert significant lipid-lowering effects. Taken all together, the clone No. 010 developed in Serbia may offer new Cabernet Franc wine with geographical indication. [GRAPHICS] .

Concept of integral protection of apple and pear

AB  - This paper implies current and economically significant diseases and pests of an apple and pear, i.e. problems of integral protection of these species of fruits in our country. Measures for their prevention are recommended regarding an adequate period. Special consideration is given to the diseases such as Venturia pyrina, Venturia inaequalis, Monilinia fructigena, Podosphaera leucotricha and Chondrostereum purpureum, as well as to pests such as Cydia pomonella, Cacopsylla pyri, Cacopsilla pyrisuga, Eryiophidae, Panonychus ulmi and Aphididae. The demand and importance of mass implementation of the concept of integral production in terms of obtaining biologically more valuable and ecologically safer fruits, i.e. preservation of the environment and health have been implied.
AB  - U radu je ukazano na aktuelne i ekonomski značajne bolesti i štetočine jabuke i kruške, odnosno na probleme integralne zaštite ovih vrsti voćaka u našoj zemlji. Preporučene su i mere njihovog suzbijanja u adekvatnom periodu. Poseban osvrt dat je na bolesti Venturia pyrina, Venturia inaequalis, Monilinia fructigena, Podosphaera leucotricha i Chondrostereum purpureum, kao i na štetočine Cydia pomonella, Cacopsylla pyri, Cacopsilla pyrisuga, Eryiophidae, Panonychus ulmi i Aphididae. Ukazano je na potrebu i značaj masovnijeg uvođenja koncepta integralne proizvodnje u cilju dobijanja biološki vrednijih i ekološki bezbednijih plodova, odnosno očuvanja životne sredine i zdravlja ljudi.

Nutritional composition of conventional and organically produced food

AB  - Given the fact that the nutritional value, safety and health status of food produced by conventional agriculture vary around the world, the system of organic farming is emerging as a system that achieves a sustainable production of healthy and safe food, free of pesticide residues. This paper presents evidence that organic foods compared to conventional contain significantly less nitrates, a higher level of dry substance and minerals (especially Fe, Mg and P), vitamin C, essential amino acids and total sugars, then the phenolic compounds, while foods of animal origin contain more unsaturated fatty acids. As for the level of protein, it is generally lower in organic foods. The current scientific data indicate that there is an insufficient number of studies on vitamin levels, in particular b-carotene and vitamin B group. Organically produced fruits and vegetables (in particular apple, cherry, currants, sugar beet, beetroot, carrot, spinach, kale and potatoes) contain higher levels of sucrose and total all sugars. When it comes to animal products, the current available data are insufficiently documented due to different farming systems on farms. However, studies show that chicken eggs and cow's milk do not show significant differences in protein content compared to conventionally produced, organic cow's milk products contain less lipids, while organic chicken meat has a much higher level of iron. However, strict rules laid down by the system of organic production provides food production that meets high quality standards.
AB  - S obzirom na to da je činjenica da nutritivna vrednost, bezbednost i zdravstveno stanje namirnica proizvedenih konvencionalnom poljoprivredom variraju širom sveta, sistem organske proizvodnje se nameće kao sistem kojim se postiže održiva proizvodnja zdrave i bezbedne hrane bez ostataka pesticida. Ovim radom su prikazani podaci da organska hrana u poređenju sa konvencionalnom sadrži znatno manje nitrata, a više suve materije i minerala (naročito Fe, Mg i P), vitamina C, esencijalnih aminokiselina i ukupnih šećera, a zatim i fenolnih jedinjenja, dok namirnice životinjskog porekla sadrže i više nezasićenih masnih kiselina. Što se tiče nivoa proteina, on je uglavnom niži u organskim namirnicama. Dosadašnji naučni podaci ukazuju da postoji nedovoljan broj studija vezanih za ispitivanje nivoa vitamina, naročito b-karotena i vitamina B grupe. Organski proizvedeno voće i povrće (naročito jabuka, višnja, ribizla, šećerna repa, cvekla, šargarepa, spanać, kelj i krompir) sadrže viši nivo saharoze, kao i svih ukupnih šećera. Kada su u pitanju animalni proizvodi, dosadašnji dostupni podaci su nedovoljno dokumentovani usled različitog sistema uzgoja na farmama. Ipak, istraživanja dokazuju da kokošja jaja i kravlje mleko ne pokazuju značajne razlike u sadržaju proteina u odnosu na konvencionalno proizvedene, organski kravlji proizvodi sadrže manje lipida, dok meso organskih pilića ima znatno viši nivo gvožđa. The influence of BA and BA+GA4+7 on formation of sylleptic shoots on one-year-old apple nursery trees

AB  - This study presents the influence of BA (6-benzyladenine) and BA+GA4+7 (6-benzyladenine + gibberellic acids 4 and 7) on feathering of one-year-old apple trees of two cultivars Jonagold and Čadel. Different concentrations of BA (300, 600, 1,200 and 1,800 mg L-1) and BA+GA4+7 (500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 mg L-1) were applied, and two treatments for both chemicals were performed. The first treatment was applied at 70-cm height of nursery trees and the second 2 weeks later. Comparison was performed in relation to untreated control. An application of BA and BA+GA4+7 did not affect both rootstock and nursery tree diameter at 10 cm above the grafting union. Nursery trees of cultivar Jonagold were not influenced by treatments applied, whereas in cultivar Čadel, the treatment with BA+GA4+7 decreased apical growth of nursery trees. The development of sylleptic shoots in both cultivars tested was influenced by the type of growth regulator and concentration applied. Treatment with BA at 300 mg L-1 concentration in both cultivars tested did not influence total length and number of sylleptic shoots, as well as the number of sylleptic shoots longer than 20 cm. The most positive influence on all studied parameters was observed on nursery trees treated with the concentration of 1,200 mg L-1 BA. The lowest concentration of BA+GA4+7 (500 mg L-1) caused the low feathering of both studied cultivars. The higher concentrations (1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 mg L-1) similarly increased the number and total length of sylleptic shoots of nursery trees.
AB  - U ovom radu je ispitivan uticaj BA (6-benziladenin) i BA+GA4+7 (6-benziladenin + giberelinska kiselina 4 i 7) na bočno grananje jednogodišnjih sadnica dve sorte jabuke Jonagold i Čadel. Primenjene su različite koncentracije BA (300, 600, 1.200 i 1.800 mg L-1) i BA+GA4+7 (500, 1.000, 1.500 i 2.000 mg L-1) pri čemu su kod oba hemijska jedinjenja tretmani izvedeni dva puta. Prvi tretman je izveden kada su sadnice bile visine 70 cm, a drugi tretman je izveden dve nedelje kasnije. Kontrola je bila bez tretiranja. Primena BA i BA+GA4+7 nije ispoljila uticaj na prečnik podloge i sadnice na visini od 10 cm iznad spojnog mesta. Kod sadnica sorte Jonagold nisu registrovane razlike u vršnom porastu pod uticajem primenjenih tretmana, dok je kod sorte Čadel tretman sa BA+GA4+7 uticao na smanjenje vršnog porasta sadnica. Ustanovljeno je da su tip hemijskog regulatora i primenjena koncentracija uticali na razvoj prevremenih grančica kod obe ispitivane sorte. Tretman sa BA u koncentraciji od 300 mg L-1 nije ispoljio uticaj na ukupnu dužinu i broj prevremenih grančica, kao i na broj prevremenih grančica dužih od 20 cm. Najpozitivniji uticaj na sve ispitivane parametre je zabeležen kod sadnica tretiranih sa BA u koncentraciji od 1.200 mg L-1. Najniža koncentracija BA+GA4+7 (500 mg L-1) je izazvala slabo grananje sadnica kod obe ispitivane sorte. Veće koncentracije (1.000, 1.500 i 2.000 mg L-1) su uslovile slično povećanje broja i ukupne dužine prevremenih grančica na sadnicama.

Nursery trees of cultivar Jonagold were not influenced by treatments applied, whereas in cultivar Čadel, the treatment with BA+GA4+7 decreased apical growth of nursery trees. The development of sylleptic shoots in both cultivars tested was influenced by the type of growth regulator and concentration applied. Treatment with BA at 300 mg L-1 concentration in both cultivars tested did not influence total length and number of sylleptic shoots, as well as the number of sylleptic shoots longer than 20 cm. The most positive influence on all studied parameters was observed on nursery trees treated with the concentration of 1,200 mg L-1 BA. The lowest concentration of BA+GA4+7 (500 mg L-1) caused the low feathering of both studied cultivars. The higher concentrations (1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 mg L-1) similarly increased the number and total length of sylleptic shoots of nursery trees., U ovom radu je ispitivan uticaj BA (6-benziladenin) i BA+GA4+7 (6-benziladenin + giberelinska kiselina 4 i 7) na bočno grananje jednogodišnjih sadnica dve sorte jabuke Jonagold i Čadel. Primenjene su različite koncentracije BA (300, 600, 1.200 i 1.800 mg L-1) i BA+GA4+7 (500, 1.000, 1.500 i 2.000 mg L-1) pri čemu su kod oba hemijska jedinjenja tretmani izvedeni dva puta. Prvi tretman je izveden kada su sadnice bile visine 70 cm, a drugi tretman je izveden dve nedelje kasnije. Kontrola je bila bez tretiranja. Primena BA i BA+GA4+7 nije ispoljila uticaj na prečnik podloge i sadnice na visini od 10 cm iznad spojnog mesta. Kod sadnica sorte Jonagold nisu registrovane razlike u vršnom porastu pod uticajem primenjenih tretmana, dok je kod sorte Čadel tretman sa BA+GA4+7 uticao na smanjenje vršnog porasta sadnica. Ustanovljeno je da su tip hemijskog regulatora i primenjena koncentracija uticali na razvoj prevremenih grančica kod obe ispitivane sorte. Tretman sa BA u koncentraciji od 300 mg L-1 nije ispoljio uticaj na ukupnu dužinu i broj prevremenih grančica, kao i na broj prevremenih grančica dužih od 20 cm. Najpozitivniji uticaj na sve ispitivane parametre je zabeležen kod sadnica tretiranih sa BA u koncentraciji od 1.200 mg L-1. follows row direction at an angle of 25° to the trunk. In standard experimental plot, one-year
old peach trees were planted and trained as ‘Fusetto’ form (4 x 2 m; 1,250 trees ha-1) and
Open Vase (4 x 4 m, 625 trees ha-1). The following characteristics were studied: yield per tree
and unit area (ha), as well as yield efficiency based on trunk cross-sectional area and on
crown projection area. In the first three years of cropping significantly higher yields were
achieved in the high-density planting system. Yield efficiency expressed based on the crown
projection area, was also significantly higher in the high-density planting system.

AB  - Medlar is the fruit of Mespilus germanica L. in the family of Rosaceae. The fruit can be eaten only if "bletted" (softened by frost or longer storage). The effect of the maturation stages on the volatile compounds of the medlar fruit was investigated during two different stages. Volatile flavour substances were isolated from the minced pulp of unripe and full ripe medlar fruits by simultaneous steam distillation extraction (SDE) with methylene chloride as the extracting solvent. The concentrate was analyzed by GC-FID-MS. Hexanoic and hexadecanoic acids were the predominant acids, hexanal and (E)-2-hexenal were the predominant aldehydes, (Z)-3-hexenol and hexanol were the predominant alcohols, with p-cymene, terpinen-4-ol, and γ-terpinene (the terpenes responsible for the characteristic medlar flavour) being also present. The C6 aliphatic compounds, such as hexanal and (E)-2-hexenal, were observed as the major volatile constituents in the green stage. In contrast, hexanol and (Z)-3-hexenol were the main volatiles in ripe fruits.
AB  - Mušmula (Mespilus germanica L) je voće iz porodice ruža (Rosaceae). Zeleni plodovi mušmule nisu jestivi već treba da ugnile (omekšaju usled mraza ili tokom čuvanja) pre nego što se koriste u ishrani. Efekat procesa sazrevanja na isparljive komponente ploda mušmule ispitivan je u dve različite faze njegove zrelosti. Isparljiva jedinjenja su izolovana iz izmrvljene pulpe nezrelih i zrelih plodova mušmule pomoću simultane destilacije vodenom parom i ekstrakcije metilen-hloridom. Koncentrovani uzorak je analiziran kombinacijom metoda GC-FID-MS. Heksanska i palmitinska kiselina su najzastupljenije kiseline, heksanal i (E)-2-heksenal su najzastupljeniji aldehidi, (Z)-3-heksenol i heksanol su najzastupljeniji alkoholi i p-cimen, terpinen-4-ol i γ-terpinen, terpeni odgovorni za karakterističnu aromu ploda mušmule, takođe su prisutni. The influence of slope planting trees and modifications to growing form on productivity properties of apple cultivars

AB  - This study examines influence of slope planting apple trees and bending central leader, on generative potential and productivity properties of three cultivars ‘Scarlet Spur’, ‘Galaxy’ and ‘Tentation’, on conditions of Obrenovacka Posavina area (2010-2011). Ap­ple trees of same cultivars in standard slender spindle form are used as control. The study include number of flower buds per three, number of flowers per three, number of fruits per tree, percentage of fruit set, fruit weight and yield per tree and per hectare. The treatment and control trees did not show statistically significant differences in the generative potential, but all the cultivars achieved best performances in the treatment of slope planting trees with the bent central leader. This result was achieved by increasing tree density per unit area, but due to the modification of the training system. Absolutely the highest average fruit yield in this treatment was recorded in cultivar ‘Tentation’ (81.7 t ha-1).
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja uticaja kose sadnje vitkog vretena i povijanja vodice stabala jabuke, na generativni potencijal i proizvodna svojstva tri sorte ove vrste voćaka - Scarlet Spur, Galaxy i Tentation - u uslovima Obrenovačke Posavine (2010-2011). Kao kontrolna varijanta korišćen je standardni zasad istih sorti jabuke sa vertikalno posađenim stablima oblikovanim u formi vitkog vretena. Od pokazatelja vegetativnog potencijala i proizvodnih svojstava sorti u ogledu su praćeni: broj cvetnih pupoljaka po stablu, broj cvetova po stablu, broj plodova po stablu, procenat oplodnje, masa ploda i prinosi po stablu i hektaru zasada. Stabla tretmana i kontrole nisu iskazala statistički značajne razlike u generativnom potencijalu, ali su sve ispitivane sorte najbolji proizvodni rezultat ostvarile u tretmanu kose sadnje stabala sa povijenom vodicom. Ovaj rezultat je postignut zahvaljujući većem broju stabala po jedinici površine, ali zahvaljujući i modifikovanju uzgojnog oblika. Apsolutno najveći prosečan prinos plodova u ovom tretmanu zabeležen je kod sorte Tentation od 81,7 t ha-1.

AB  - Predicting the yield of red currant a few months before full maturity is an important factor of successful harvest planning and organizing, as well as the fruit marketing. In order to generate an adequate data base and estimation method, basic parameters of red currant generative potential (yield, number of clusters per bush and number of berries per cluster) have been evidenced during two years for eleven cultivars of red currant, including the standard cultivar 'Redpoll'. As it was expected, the analysis of experimental results verified the existence of relationship between yield and other two relevant parameters. Using this connection, the topographic map is generated by two-dimensional interpolation of experimental data by inverse-distance method. This map enabled yield estimation of red currant on the basis of number of clusters per bush and number of berries per cluster.

Effect of crop load on apple tree growth and productivity in the first year of planting

AB  - High quality one-year-old nursery trees of the apple cultivars 'Golden Reinders', 'Granny Smith' and 'Red Chief', with more than seven lateral shoots, were planted in 2008 bearing fruits the same year. Two levels of crop load (3 and 6 fruits per tree) were applied in cultivars 'Red Chief' and 'Granny Smith', whereas six levels of crop load (3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 fruits per tree) in cultivar 'Golden Reinders'. Control treatment without fruits was also included in all cultivars. Planting distance was 3.2× 0.8 m and the trees were trained like slender spindle. Crop load in cultivar 'Red Chief' did not influence on trunk cross sectional area (TCSA), while a reduction of TCSA was recorded in treatments with 9 or more fruits per tree in cultivar 'Golden Reinders'. Crop load increased also the growth in cultivar 'Granny Smith'. Number of shoots and total shoot length decreased on more fruitful trees of cultivar 'Red Chief' in relation to control treatment. 'Golden Reinders' had both lower number of shoots and total length when 9 or more fruits were left in the trees, while this trend were observed in 'Granny Smith' when only 6 fruits per tree were left. Crop load influenced the yield of cultivars, as trees with 6 fruits produced 4.6 t ha-1 in cultivar 'Red Chief', 4,03 in cultivar 'Golden Reinders' and 4,7 t ha-1 in cultivar 'Granny Smith'. By increasing crop load above 6 fruits per tree, fruit weight decreased in cultivars 'Red Chief' and 'Granny Smith'. Fruit weight of cultivar 'Golden Reinders' was decreased only in trees with 15 fruits. Crop load reduced flower buds the following year in cultivar 'Red Chief'. However, cultivars 'Granny Smith' and 'Golden Reinders' with 3 and 6 fruits per tree formed enough reproductive buds for optimal yield in the second year.

AB  - The chemical characteristics of fruit spirits produced from three black currant cultivars (Mailing Juel, Ometa and Ben Sarek) and two red currant cultivars (Rondom and Versailles) grown in Serbia were examined using gas chromatography. In addition, a sensory evaluation of the spirit samples was performed using the Buxbaum model of positive rating. Fruit spirits produced from black currant cultivars displayed the highest contents of methanol (267.2-595.0 g/hl A.A.) and amyl alcohols (74.2-204.8 g/hl A.A.). Total sensory scores of currant brandies ranged between 17.60 and 18.40, while currant brandy produced from the Ben Sarek black currant cultivar received the highest score (18.40). All tested samples of currant brandies fulfilled EU requirements as regards their content of methanol and other components such as acetaldehyde, ethyl acetate, and high alcohols. The currant distillates were compared with other commercial spirits, including plum and grape brandies.

AB  - Three different tree forms with four different crop load were studied in peach 'Royal Glory'. Trees were grafted on peach seedling and planted as "sleeping eyes" in 2006. Planting spacing was 4 m between the rows and 2 m in the row (1250 trees/ha). The following tree forms were made: 1) 'Perpendicular Y' with two scaffolds orientated transversally to the row direction, 2) 'Parallel Y' with two scaffolds oriented in the row direction and 3) 'slender spindle' with one axis. Each of the tree forms had the following crop load: one fruit per cm(2) trunk cross sectional area (TCA), two fruits per cm(2) TCA, three fruits per cm(2) TCA and four fruits per cm(2) TCA. Cropping started in 2008 (third leaf). The lowest yield per hectare and fruit weight were recorded in the trees grown in 'Parallel Y', while the highest yield and fruit weight were obtained by slender spindle trees. The latter was not significantly different from 'Perpendicular Y'. 'Slender spindle' also had the highest vegetative growth, expressed through annual increase in TCA, so tree shape did not have an influence on the index of productivity. In all tree forms, yield increased together with crop load, while the fruit weight decreased with crop load. Tree crop load influenced the time of ripening. It was observed that the fruits on trees which had one or two fruits per cm(2) TCA ripened earlier, so the optimal harvest period was shorter. The examined factors did produce a significant effect on soluble solids and total acid concentration in the fruit juice.

AB  - The latest innovations in the field of physiology and ecology of fruits and grapevines are currently being intensively applied in practice. It is of utmost importance to harmonize environmental factors and biological requirements of cultivated fruit and grapevine species/cultivars, which targets at high productivity and superior quality of fruits. Practical application of newly acquired knowledge in the field of biology, which is a general definition covered by 'biotechnologies', will be presented in the paper which includes the latest in vitro preservation techniques that appear to be indispensable modes in modern global repositories of plant gene pools. Actual global warming affects both life on our planet and climate change. Water contained in soil, atmosphere, plant tissues and organs is the crucial factor of survival of all living systems, fruits and grapevines accordingly. Any deviation from optimal water content leads to the disorder in the performance of physiological processes in a plant organism over long periods of drought, nonetheless the incidence of plant wilting or die back of trees in full cropping are the accompanying effects of water shortages. Physiological indicators of drought-induced stress and consequences of water deficiencies on grapevine, will be presented in this paper along with modern image technologies, i.e. fluorescence, multispectral reflection and thermography based on the human knowledge of physiological processes in plants. These simple and nondestructive methods are widely used in optimizing irrigation, measuring the resistance of plants to abiotic and biotic stress factors and in the analyzes of yield quantity and quality.
AB  - Nova saznanja u oblasti fiziologije i ekologije voćaka i vinove loze nalaze sve širu primenu u praksi. Posebno je značajno i neophodno ekološke faktore uskladiti sa biološkim potrebama gajenih vrsta/sorti voćaka i vinove loze, što za krajnji cilj mora imati visoku rodnost i odličan kvalitet plodova. Aplikacija znanja iz biologije u praksi, koja je jedna od opštih definicija za široku oblast koju pokrivaju 'biotehnologije', biće prezentovana u radu sa najnovijim tehnikama prezervacije voćaka in vitro, a koje su nezaobilazni deo u savremenim repozitorijumima svetskih banki biljnih gena. Globalni porast temperature, koji je evidentan, utiče na uslove života na našoj planeti i na promenu klime, pa presudan značaj za opstanak svih životnih sistema, a samim tim i voćaka i vinove loze, ima voda u zemljištu atmosferi, biljnim tkivima i organima. Svako odstupanje od optimalnog sadržaja ima za posledicu narušavanje fizioloških procesa u biljnom organizmu, a u uslovima dugotrajne suše, često dolazi i do uvenuća, odnosno sušenja stabala u rodu. Fiziološki pokazatelji stresa suše, kao i reakcija vinove loze na deficit vlage biće prikazani u radu, kao i savremene image tehnologije (fluorescencije, multispektralne refleksije i termografije) koje su bazirane na poznavanju fizioloških procesa kod biljaka. Ove nedestruktivne i jednostavne metode se danas sve više primenjuju za potrebe optimizacije navodnjavanja, merenja stepena otpornosti biljaka na abiotičke i biotičke stresne faktore i u analizama kvantiteta i kvaliteta prinosa.

Practical application of newly acquired knowledge in the field of biology, which is a general definition covered by 'biotechnologies', will be presented in the paper which includes the latest in vitro preservation techniques that appear to be indispensable modes in modern global repositories of plant gene pools. Actual global warming affects both life on our planet and climate change. Water contained in soil, atmosphere, plant tissues and organs is the crucial factor of survival of all living systems, fruits and grapevines accordingly. Any deviation from optimal water content leads to the disorder in the performance of physiological processes in a plant organism over long periods of drought, nonetheless the incidence of plant wilting or die back of trees in full cropping are the accompanying effects of water shortages. Physiological indicators of drought-induced stress and consequences of water deficiencies on grapevine, will be presented in this paper along with modern image technologies, i.e. fluorescence, multispectral reflection and thermography based on the human knowledge of physiological processes in plants. These simple and nondestructive methods are widely used in optimizing irrigation, measuring the resistance of plants to abiotic and biotic stress factors and in the analyzes of yield quantity and quality., Nova saznanja u oblasti fiziologije i ekologije voćaka i vinove loze nalaze sve širu primenu u praksi. AB  - Fruits from three walnut cultivars were picked in three terms with the aim to determine the optimal harvesting time of green walnut fruits for the improvement fruit brandies. Quantity of juglone and its antioxidant activity was determined in the picked fruits. Juglone quantity was the highest in fruits weighing between 4.5 g and 6.5 g (harvesting time around June 1), and varied from 209.60 mg up to 735.00 mg in the cultivar Sheinovo, from 388.50 mg up to 418.60 mg in the cultivar Geisenheim 139 and from 325.50 mg up to 499.40 mg in the cultivar Geisenheim 251, in a sample of 100 fruits. In this phase, walnut fruits had the highest antioxidant activity, too. .
AB  - Tehnikom visokoefikasne tečne hromatografije određivan je sadržaj juglona (5-hidroxi-1,4-naftohinona) u uzorcima mladog oraha različitih sorti i različite zrelosti berbi 2005. i 2006. godine. Pored toga određena je anatioksidativna aktivnost metanolnih ekstrakata uzoraka plodova. Koncentracije juglona se nalaze u opsegu 0,03-0,24 % za berbu 2005. i 0,03-0,08 % za berbu 2006. Svi uzorci su pokazali značajnu antioksidativnu aktivnost. .

The antioxidant activity of liqueurs made of earlier harvested walnut fruits that weighted 2.0-3.0g was significantly higher than the antioxidant activity of liqueurs made of walnut fruits harvested in the later term that weighted over 5.0g. .
AB  - U radu je analiziran uticaj termina berbe zelenog oraha na senzorične karakteristike i antioksidativnu aktivnost od njih proizvedenih likera. Berba zelenih plodova tri sorte oraha obavljena je u dva termina: kada su prosečne mase plodova bile između 2,0 i 3,0 grama, i kada su prosečne mase plodova svih sorti bile preko 5,0 grama. Rezultati analiza su pokazali da termini berbe zelenog oraha ne utiču značajno na senzorične karakteristike likera, ali da bitno određuju nivo antioksidativne aktivnosti ovog pića. Antioksidativna aktivnost likera proizvedenih od ranije branih plodova je značajno veća od antioksidativne aktivnosti likera poznije branih oraha. .

AB  - Application of different Promalin® concentration in production of "knip" nursery tree of apple cv. Galaxy and Braeburn are shown in this paper. By increasing promaline concentration in the solution, with the application of 1000 l of the solution per hectare, total number of feathers per nursery tree and number of feathers longer than 20 cm were signifi cantly increased. Other parameters considering quality of nursery plants were not essentially different by changing of Promalin® concentration in the solution. .
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati primene rastvora promalina različite koncentracije u proizvodnji knip sadnica jabuke sorte Galaksi i Breburn. Sa povećanjem koncentracije promalina u rastvoru, uz upotrebu 1000 l rastvora po hektaru, značajno se povećavao i ukupan broj prevremenih grana na sadnici kao i broj grana dužih od 20 cm. Ostali parametri kvaliteta sadnica nisu se bitnije menjali sa promenom koncentracije promalina u rastvoru. .

AB  - The effect of single and double summer pruning on major parameters of vegetative and reproductive potentials of apple cvs Jonagold and Granny Smith under the spindle and regular palmette systems with angled branches. Significant to very significant effect of this pomotechnical measure on growth, cropping and fruit quality under both training systems under identical growing conditions. Due to the aforementioned, summer pruning ought to be regularly performed in highly intensified plantings, with intensity and time of performance adjusted both to the biological particularities of certain cultivars and the employed growing system.
AB  - U radu su prikazani dvogodišnji rezultati ispitivanja uticaja zelene rezidbe na vegetativni i reproduktivni potencijal jabuke Jonagold i Greni Smit. Uporedo su praćena stabla kontrolne varijante (bez primene zelene rezidbe). Zelena rezidba na stablima navedenih sorti jabuke izvođena je u prvoj polovini juna i polovinom avgusta (prva varijanta), odnosno samo u prvoj polovini juna (II varijanta). Utvrđeni su pozitivni efekti zelene rezidbe na ispitivane parametre, zbog čega se preporučuje njeno redovno izvođenje kod stabala u rodu. Dvokratna zelena rezidba dala je nešto povoljnije rezultate, što ne mora biti pravilo za sve sorte i različite agroekološke uslove.

abstract = "The effect of single and double summer pruning on major parameters of vegetative and reproductive potentials of apple cvs Jonagold and Granny Smith under the spindle and regular palmette systems with angled branches. Significant to very significant effect of this pomotechnical measure on growth, cropping and fruit quality under both training systems under identical growing conditions. Due to the aforementioned, summer pruning ought to be regularly performed in highly intensified plantings, with intensity and time of performance adjusted both to the biological particularities of certain cultivars and the employed growing system., U radu su prikazani dvogodišnji rezultati ispitivanja uticaja zelene rezidbe na vegetativni i reproduktivni potencijal jabuke Jonagold i Greni Smit. Uporedo su praćena stabla kontrolne varijante (bez primene zelene rezidbe). Zelena rezidba na stablima navedenih sorti jabuke izvođena je u prvoj polovini juna i polovinom avgusta (prva varijanta), odnosno samo u prvoj polovini juna (II varijanta). Utvrđeni su pozitivni efekti zelene rezidbe na ispitivane parametre, zbog čega se preporučuje njeno redovno izvođenje kod stabala u rodu. Dvokratna zelena rezidba dala je nešto povoljnije rezultate, što ne mora biti pravilo za sve sorte i različite agroekološke uslove.",

AB  - The paper presents the results of evaluation of the effects of substrata on rooting of the following vegetative apple rootstocks: M9, Emla, Pajam 1 and Pajam 2. Glistenjak, Floradur 1, Floradur 2, Sondermischung grdernererde and Kekkila. Substrata were applied in quantity of 1.5 kg per mother bush, with soil covering as the control. The following parameters were monitored in the study: number of sprouts per bush, sprout length and diameter, length of the rooted section, root weight, number and length of all roots and number and length both of ramified and unramified roots. The substrata had positive effect on all evaluated parameters, which further implies that these should be applied in more intensive rootstock production with the aim of obtaining high quality planting material intended for the establishment of intensive plantings.
AB  - Na osnovu dvogodišnjih ispitivanja uticaja različitih supstrata na ožiljavanje vegetativnih podloga jabuke utvrđene su značajne razlike kod ispitivanih parametara kod sve tri podloge za jabuku: M 9 Emla, Pajam 1 i Pajam 2. U poređenju sa kontrolnom varijantom korišćeni supstrati, glistenjak, Floradur 1, Floradur 2, Sondermischung grdngrerde i Kekkila su ispoljili pozitivni uticaj na ožiljavanje mladica, broj žila, dužinu žila i masu žila.

AB  - The paper presents the effect of spindle and irregular palmette crown shapes as well as the influence of intensity of pruning on cropping and fruit quality of apple cvs Idared and Gloster. At spindle crown shape spacing was 4 x 1.8 m with M 26 rootstock. Under the irregular palmette with angled branches the spacing was 4 x 4 m and the rootstock was MM 106. It has been established that the yield height presented in kg/tree changes considerably by cultivar and applied crown shape. Cv Gloster grown under the spindle system gave substantially higher yield per hectare than under irregular palmette. No such regularity may be observed in cv Idared. Yield height, both in kg/tree and t/ha, was not greatly influenced by different pruning intensities. In both cultivars double pruning had positive effect on increase of blush covered fruit area. Fruits of cv Gloster were also more colored compared to the fruits of cv Idared. Crown shape had no influence on fruit coloring. Intensity of blush was not markedly changed by the evaluated factors. Different pruning treatments and crown shapes did not exhibit considerable influence on soluble solids content and total acids content.
AB  - U radu je ispitivan uticaj različitog intenziteta letnje rezidbe kod dva sistema gajenja (sistem vitkog vretena i nepravilne palmete) na rodnost i kvalitet ploda sorti jabuke Ajdared i Gloster. U sistemu vitkog vretena razmak sadnje je 4 x1,8 m, a podloga je M 26. Kod nepravilne palmete sa kosim granama razmak sadnje je 4 x 4 m, a podloga MM 106. Utvrđeno je da se visina prinosa izražena u kg/stablu značajno menja pod uticajem sorte i oblika krune. Sorta Gloster je na vitkom vretenu je dala značajno veće prinose po hektaru nego na nepravilnoj palmeti. Kod sorte Ajdared ne postoji takva pravilnost. Visina prinosa, kako kg/stablo, tako i t/ha se nije značajno menjala pod uticajem intenziteta rezidbe. Kod obe sorte dvostruka rezidba je ispoljila pozitivan uticaj na povećanje površine ploda prekrivene dopunskom bojom. Takođe, plodovi sorte Gloster su bili više obojeni od plodova sorte Ajdared. Oblik krune nije uticao na obojenost plodova. Intenzitet dopunske boje se nije značajnije menjao pod dejstvom ispitivanih faktora. Različiti tretmani rezidbe i oblici krune nisu ispoljili značajan uticaj na sadržaj rastvorljive suve materije i sadržaj ukupnih kiselina.

The effect of crown shape on cropping and productive efficacy of peach

AB  - The paper presents monitoring of effect of the pal spindle, veronese spindle, veronese vase and open center crown shapes on cropping of peach cultivars with different ripening times: Redhaven, Creshaven and Sommerset. The applied spacing in all evaluated variants were 5 x 4 m. The highest yield per tree as well as by hectare were attained with the applied veronese vase crown shape, and the lowest with veronese spindle crown shape. High yield was recorded in cv Redhaven and Cresthaven, and very low yield was observed in cv Sommerset. Yield efficacy presented as yield height per unit of cross-sectional area of the trunk was somewhat higher with application of veronese vase and pal spindle compared with two other crown shapes. Yield efficacy presented in yield per unit of covered soil was very high in pal spindle and veronese vase crown shapes, which, in trees with these crown shapes, ensures more efficient exploitation of soil. Veronese vase also presented positive influence on high quality fruits, whereas the lowest results were achieved in pal spindle crown shape. The highest percentage of superior class fruits was recorded in cv Sommerset, and the lowest in cv Redhaven. In view of the fact that it induced positive effect on yield height, higher percentage of high quality fruits and growing at smaller spacing veronese vase may be applied instead of the standard open center crown.
AB  - U radu je praćen uticaj oblika krune: pal špindel, veronsko vreteno, veronska vaza i kotlasta kruna na rodnost sorti breskve različitog vremena zrenja: Redheven, Krestheven i Samerset. Primenjeni razmak sadnje između svih varijanti ispitivanja bio je 5 x 4 m. Najviši prinosi kako po stablu tako i po hektaru postignuti su sa oblikom veronska vaza, a najniži sa oblikom veronsko vreteno. Visoke prinose postigle su sorte Redheven i Krestheven, a veoma niske sorta Samerset. Indeks produkcije po jedinici površine pokrivenog tla bio je veoma visok za stabla sa oblikom pal špindel i veronska vaza, što im omogućava efikasnije iskorišćavanje zemljišnog prostora. Takođe veronska vaza uslovila je veću zastupljenost plodova ekstra i I klase. Najveći procenat plodova ekstra i prve klase imala je sorta Redheven, a najniže sorta Samerset.
