AB - Besides ecological and environmental benefits of green open spaces, horticultural waste management has various environmental consequences. Green waste composting represents promising environmentally friendly alternative which gives valuable products with positive soil and plants impact. Composting products' quality determinates their application and depends on the particular waste material and process parameters. The aim of this paper was to estimate the chemical and microbiological quality of green waste compost and compost products (compost tea, compost extract and the solid phase after extraction), and their biopotential based on germination rate, germination index and inhibition of phytopathogenic fungi growth. Higher germination rate of examined plant seeds was noticed on the solid phase after extraction, and compost extract, compared to compost, and compost tea, respectively. Plants with low germination rate grown on compost showed higher fresh and dry biomass. Compost products strongly inhibited the growth of plant pathogens Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia sp., and Pythium debaryanum. Presented results show that composted biodegradable waste from urban green spaces contribute to the plant growth and phytopathogenic fungi suppression, and thus improve the overall environmental quality.

AB - The aim of this work is determination of influence of different compost leachates and teas types on vegetables seed germination. Composts used for leachate and tea production were produced of municipal waste (MSW) and waste from tobacco industry (TW). Results achieved with MSW products were comparable to control. Compost products derived from TW showed significant phytotoxicity, which can be correlated with their chemical composition. Leachates from MSW compost lead to the lower germination index in comparison to MSW compost teas, which indicates the possibilites their application.

AB - Some Trichoderma strains can persist in ecosystems with high concentrations of heavy metals. The aim of this research was to examine the variability of Trichoderma strains isolated from different ecosystems, based on their morphological properties and restriction analysis of ITS fragments. The fungal growth was tested on potato dextrose agar, amended with Cu(II) concentrations ranging from 0.25 to 10 mmol/l, in order to identify copper-resistant strains. The results indicate that some isolated strains of Trichoderma sp. show tolerance to higher copper concentrations. Further research to examine the ability of copper bioaccumulation by tolerant Trichoderma strains is needed.

AB - Ecoremediation is one of reclamation methods, using plant-microbes-based technologies, and its application is suitable for mining activities-degraded ecosystems. The aim of this work was to estimate plant and microbial diversity on coal mine field 'Kakanj ' (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The results show the domination of Asteraceae species. In most of samples, bacterial number was higher in rhizosphere comparing to the surrounding bulk soil, while the abundance of fungi was higher comparing to the number of actinomycetes. Lowest microbial activity was detected in waste material. Determination of plant and microbial diversity provide valuable information for restoration of mining activities-degraded environments.

AB - In the present paper we investigated contents of heavy metals (As, Pb, Cd and Hg) and health damaging substances (nitrates and nitrites) in fruits of apple 'Idared' grown on different localities in the Čačak region. The cultivar dominates local commercial apple plantings and is the leading apple cultivar produced for both export and domestic markets. Therefore, control of sanitary and health status of produced apple fruits is of key importance. Arsenic (As) content in apple fruits varies among localities, ranging from 0.0035 mg/kg to 0.0071 mg/kg, variation coefficient being from 4.51% to 36.82%. Lead (Pb) content ranged from 0.0035 mg/kg to 0.0807 mg/kg, its variation coefficient being 4.51-11.44%. Cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) contents were within the range 0.0028- 0.0059 mg/kg and 0.0058-0.0076 mg/kg, respectively, their variation coefficients varying by localities between 6.11% and 37.10% and 6.03% and 23.67%, respectively. Nitrates and nitrites content in all samples was below 3 mg/kg of fresh fruit weight. The established contents of heavy metals, nitrates and nitrites was considerably lower than prescribed by Regulation. The obtained results infer that the growing region above is very suitable for commercial apple production in the studied parameters.
