AB - The aim of this research was to verify the authenticity of monofloral honeys from the territory of the Republic of Serbia on the basis of physicochemical parameters routinely measured in honey quality control using multivariate analysis. Seventeen samples of monofloral honey (11 samples of acacia honey and 6 samples of sunflower honey) from the territory of the Republic of Serbia were analyzed. Physico-chemical analysis of the samples included the examination of basic quality parameters and qualitative and quantitative analyses of phenolic compounds. In the samples tested, a total of 93 phenolic compounds were tentatively identified, and 19 of them were quantified. The obtained physicochemical analysis of the data served as input for the multivariate analysis. The hеаt map, which is useful for visualizing numerical data, was used for this purpose. The obtained results showed that the applied data can serve to clearly separate acacia and sunflower honeys.

AB - The aim of this study was to examine specific quality characteristics of meadow and acacia honey in conditions of production - at lots with 50 hives (n=50) from four locations within the Jablanica District (at an altitude of 210 to 900 m). The results of colorimetric determination in the CIE and CIEL*a*b* systems suggest that the values of L*(lightness intensity of white color) for samples of meadow honey increased at higher attitudes (L*=24.48-31.64) while for the acacia honey the darker nuances were obtained (L*=32.17-25.10) (p lt 0.001), at the same time. The highest viscosity was found for meadow honey sampled at locations at the lowest attitudes (X-m=22.45 Pas), as well as for the honey collected at the location of midstream of river Vlasina (attitude 450-900 m) (X-m=14.00 Pas) (p>0.05). Meadow bee pasture at higher altitudes induces an increase of mineral substances content (K, Mg, Ca, P, Na, Mn, Fe, Cr, in mg/kg), opposite to the acacia honeys (p lt 0.05). Exceptions were found in the acacia honey samples in the collected in the areas of Vlasina river midstream that had higher iron (Fe), content of (X-m=2.50 mg/kg). Sensory analyses of honey samples quality included four dominant properties (viscosity, color, odor and taste), followed by total, summary rating of the quality category. The results of statistical analysis show the significant differences (p lt 0.01) between means of colorimetric, sensory and chemical characteristics. The correlation coefficient between location of the hives and colorimetric, sensory and chemical characteristics of honey samples suggests that the climate as well as altitude play an important role in the quality of honey.

AB - Some flower morphophysiological and pollinator-luring features as well as co-adaptive traits, including nectar production, nectaries and pollen of five Lamiaceae species, namely Hyssopus officinalis, Lavandula officinalis, Melissa officinalis, Salvia officinalis and Salvia sclarea, were studied, with reference to the pollinator visits, especially considering honey bee forage preferences. Although these species are cultivated in plantation for medicinal purposes, at the same time they represent a significant source of pollen and nectar for honey production, therefore the research aimed to estimate their melliferous potential, attractiveness and significance for bee pasture. The pollen grains are isopolar, radially symmetric, predominantly hexacolpate in all species, but often mixed together with tetracolpate and octacolpate in S. sclarea. They are mostly medium-sized to large. The smallest grain was found in L. officinalis and the largest one in Salvia sclarea. The exine sculpturing is bireticulate (H. officinalis, M. officinalis, S. officinalis), reticulate (to foveolate) (S. sclarea) and foveolate (to perforate) (L. officinalis). The shape of pollen grains in equatorial view varies among different species, and within the same species. In the majority of studied species, shape is most frequently prolate (L. officinalis - type a, M. officinalis, S. officinalis and S. sclarea -Class I), except in H. officinalis and S. sclarea - Class II, in which they are sub-prolate and L. officinalis - type b in which they are oblatespheroidal Floral nectaries are located on the receptacle, surrounding the ovary base in the shape of an asymmetrical annular disc with four lobes. Unevenly distributed modified stomata were observed on the upper part or the entire surface of the functional, and generally, the most developed nectary lobe facing the lower corolla lip. The nectariferous tissue is composed of the uniseriate epidermis overlying several layers of polygonal cells forming subepidermal secretory tissue. Epidermal cells are lined with very thin cuticle. Xylem elements alone, separating from the vasculature of the flower receptacle, were noticeable nearby or inside the nectariferous tissue. The highest total daily and summary diurnal nectar amount per flower, as well as the nectar secretion rate were found in S. sclarea, and the lowest in the M. officinalis respectively. Pattern of diurnal dynamics of nectar secretion with one secretion peak was observed: in the morning, in both Salvia species, H. officinalis and L. officinalis, and early in the afternoon in M officinalis. Pollinator observation indicated the visitation of seven species of Hymenoptera, three species belonging to Diptera and two species of daily-active Lepidoptera. The honey bee (Apis mellifera) was the most abundant pollinator. The major elements of attractiveness were flower scent and colour, followed by the shape and size of the corolla and to a lesser extent the nectar amount. According to all analyzed flower characteristics and observation of pollinator behaviour and visits, the most attractive plants were H. officinalis, S. officinalis and L. officinalis, whereas M. officinalis was the least attractive. S. sclarea was completely unattractive to all recorded pollinators, except Xylocopa violacea.

AB - The pollen morphology of Dianthus petraeus (Caryophyllaceae), which is endemic to the Balkans, has been examined by both light and scanning electron microscopy in order to provide taxonomically valuable characters that might be used in the classification of the Caryophyllaceae, as well as to contribute to the pollen atlas of Serbian apiflora. The pollen grains of D. petraeus are radially symmetrical, apolar, spheroidal and medium-sized. The mean of the pollen diameter is 45.5 +/- 1.4 mu m. The sculpturing pattern of exine is microechinate-microperforate, and the tectum is covered with minute echini averaging 0.8 +/- 0.1 mu m in length, more or less evenly distributed between the perforations. The microechini average number per sample area of 5 mu m x 5 mu m is 3.2 +/- 0.6. In view of the number, position and type of the apertures, the grains are polypantoporate, with about 13 operculate pores, averaging 6.4 +/- 0.7 mu m in diameter. Each operculum is covered with 4-6 conical spinules, which are longer than those on the exine surface. The obtained palynological results provide information that contribute towards a better understanding of the taxonomic status of D. petraeus.

AB - Morphophysiological characteristics of oilseed rape flowers, such as features of the nectaries, nectar production, and observations on honey bee visits and honey and seed yield were studied with the aim to evaluate the melliferous potential of this crop as well as its attractiveness to pollinators. Calculation of the theoretical maximal honey yield revealed that the actual amount of extracted honey was much lower than the potential yield, indicating that this bee pasture is underutilized. We found that honey bee pollination increased oilseed rape yield, i.e., seed production, by 12 % compared with the treatment in which pollinators were excluded.

AB - The floral biology and attractiveness of five Lamiaceae species, namely Hyssopus officinalis, Lavandula officinalis, Melissa officinalis, Salvia officinalis and Salvia sclarea, were studied by correlating morphological characteristics of flower and nectar production with pollinator visits, especially with reference to honey bee forage preferences. Although these species are cultivated for medicinal purposes, they also represent a significant source of pollen and nectar for honey production, so the investigation aimed to estimate their melliferousness and significance for bee pasture. Pollinator observation indicated the visitation of seven species of Hymenoptera, three species of Diptera and two species of day flying Lepidoptera. The honey bee (Apis mellifera) was the most abundant pollinator, and the major elements of attractiveness were flower scent and colour, followed by the shape and size of the corolla and to a lesser extent nectar abundance. Corolla tube length and number of open flowers per whorl were of little significance. According to all analyzed flower characteristics and observation of pollinator behaviour and visits, the most attractive plants were H. officinalis, S. officinalis and L. officinalis, whilst M. officinalis was the least attractive and S. sclarea completely unattractive to all recorded pollinators except for Xylocopa violacea.

AB - State of mutual or reciprocal relationship between traits is determined by the correlation coefficients. Correlation of morphological and production traits was determined in two generations of honey bee colonies. In the first generation, mother queen bees were studied, and in the second generation, their offspring. The study of one generation lasted two years. Morphological traits were determined in the beginning of the study and production traits were determined in the spring and autumn inspections of every year. In the first generation, the positive and mostly high correlation between morphological traits, and honey yield and hygienic behavior was determined. Correlation of morphological traits, colony strength and food supplies per colony ranged from highly positive to slightly negative values. It was found that there was a high correlation between some production traits (colony strength in the spring and autumn inspections and honey yield per colony). In the analysis of offspring (second generation), most traits that were positively correlated in mother generation now, also, showed a similar relationship. The only difference, in contrast to mother generation, was that, for most traits, the intensity of interaction increased.

AB - In this study, pralines manufactured by hand were evaluated sensorially. These pralines were obtained from dark chocolate containing 60% cocoa components, filled with Apis mellifera carnica Poll drone larvae, blossom honey and a blossom honey/pollen mixture from the protected region of Stara Planina-Eastern Serbia (a specific botanical region). The objectives of this study were investigations related to the use of sensory analysis for quality assessment of new functional products with potential benefits for human health, in particular of desserts based on dark chocolate pralines filled with different bee products characterized by a specific botanical and geographic origin, as well as of their storage properties and expected shelf life. Sensory quality (appearance, texture, odor and taste were evaluated by a group of experienced panelists immediately after the production (day 0), and then after 30, 90 and 180 days of storage under ambient conditions (temperature 18-20 degrees C). The results were statistically analyzed by the two-factorial analysis of variance (MANOVA) and with the LSD-test. It is possible to conclude that the storage time and composition of dark chocolate pralines containing different honey-bee products have statistically highly significant (p lt 0.01) influence on the sensorially evaluated properties of pralines.

AB - The apicultural path of development in Serbia accompanied by increased export trend of honey, face many directives and regulations in our country and abroad likewise. Taking into consideration that a want for our honey grows in EU, it is necessary to examine the condition and the possibility of Serbian honey export from the chemical regularity point of view. In this work are examined the chemical index of four different honey types from diverse areas which correspond to EU demands of chemical regulations of honey.

AB - For apicultural practice the productive traits of bee colonies are of great significance, since it is related to different geographical bee breeds. For the purpose of preservation of existing populations and natural diversity of honey bee and for the purpose of their further selection, researches upon the productive features of certain individual populations of choice at the territory of Republic of Serbia. During three years of research productive traits of six selected lines of honey bee from three different localities in Serbia (East, West and South Serbia) were studied. Through the survey of productive traits we have come to conclusion that there are significant variations among separate lines, which can be used to improve bee breeding program of the domestic honey bee and pick up the best lines for next generations.

AB - The dependence between traits is determined by the correlation coefficients. The experiment was conducted using two generations of honey bee. The first generation consisted of the mother queen bees, and the second were their offspring. The experiment lasted for two years per generation. In the first generation, the correlation between colony strength in the both spring and autumn inspection and the honey yield was high. Considering food supply, the high correlation between food supplies in autumn and honey yield was determined. In the offspring colonies, the high correlation was determined between colony strength in autumn and honey yield. The colony strength in the spring inspection and honey yield were in medium correlation. Also, the medium correlation was determined between honey yield and brood area in the spring inspection. Other studied characteristics in the offspring colonies were not significantly correlated with honey yield.

AB - The sequences COI-COII of the mitochondrial DNA region in honeybee from four geographically distant regions in Serbia (Vršac, Knjaževac, Kraljevo, and Vranje) are analyzed. The research was conducted on eight different, previously selected honeybee lines preserved (linear selection) in the four reprocenters for queen bees. All four studied honeybee lines differ in morphological and productive traits, each being specific for the corresponding region. In addition to analysis of the mtDNA sequences in Serbian honeybee, a comparative analysis of the phylogenetic group of so far known C2 haplotypes was also performed. The results revealed two novel polymorphic positions in the COI-COII mtDNA region, viz., h2 at position 3474 and l2 at position 3534 (a T nucleotide deletion in both cases) in honeybees from the regions of Vranje and Knjaževac, respectively. Two novel mtDNA haplotypes in the honeybee C2 phylogenetic group, together with C2I (the new polymorphic position l2 and G-A transition at position 3587) and C2J (the new polymorphic position h2), are described. Also, comparative analysis performed on sequences from GenBank data showed a high degree of similarity (similarity index = 99.4%) between the novel C2I mtDNA haplotype and an A. m. cypria haplotype originating from Turkey. Certain domestic Kranjska honeybee populations from Serbia represent an autochthonous gene pool that can be of great importance for further presentation of honeybee biodiversity. The present paper contributes to characterization of mtDNA in honeybee of Serbia.

AB - During the previous decades the natural populations of honey bee Apis mellifera carnica at the territory of Republic of Serbia has been subjected to constant negative influence of man, in first place through deployment of pesticides, herbicides and other chemical substances requisite in agriculture, but also due to uncontrolled import of and crossbreeding with the other breeds of this bee. For the purpose of preservation of existing populations and natural diversity of honey bee and for the purpose of their further selection, researches upon the metric morphology and productive features of certain individual populations of choice at the territory of Republic of Serbia. In this study the quantity of the nest, of bees and of honey with two East Serbian lines (S and L) of honey bee during the spring season have been the subject of survey. The S line has shown more advanced development having 1.06 frames more and 0.11 bees more in the second year assessed. At the Szabo test of honey productivity the S line has shown in both years assessed that it had collected 29.91% and 49.51% more honey per respective year than the line L bees. Through the survey of morphological parameters we have come to conclusion that the differences in length of the forewing and the rear wing, cubital index, length of the tongue and number of spikes at the rear wing have been statistically very significant (p lt 0.01).

AB - Influence of stimulus apitechnical measures on bee community biological development in spring was examined in this paper. Bee societies were placed in Langstrot-rut beehives with 10 frames, settled with bees belonging to Apis meliifera race. During the experiment, appropriate apitechnical measures were done during winter, spring and summer period and following parameters were observed: brood, honey and pollen surface. Application of timely warming, control and bee society expanding enabled regular bee community developing, that was established by following honey and pollen proceeds, and brood development. Average brood surface on the beginning of fruit pasture was 67.68 dm2 while at the end of fruit pasture was 81.81 dm2. Honey surface decreased on the average 8.93 dm2, while pollen surface because of the large proceeds, increased for 0.802 dm2. Statistical analysis of data showed that the pollen surface decreased for 0.429 dm2 if the brood surface increased for 1 dm2. Existing of mean degree of dependence (31.36%) of brood surface and changes of honey and pollen surface was established as well, but no statistical significance between brood surface and examining factors observing together was found.
U toku ogleda su primenjene odgovarajuće apitehničke mere u toku zimskog, prolećnog i letnjeg perioda i praćeni sledeći parametri: površina legla, meda i polena.

AB - The paper presents correlation between qualitative and quantitative parameters of queen cells and queens. The research work was carried out in the apiary near Belgrade, on standard Langstroth hives. The results indicated significant correlation between total weight queen and queen cells (0,977) and total weight of empty queen cells (0,970). Number of queen cells was influenced on total weight of full and empty queen cells (0,987 i 0,983) and total weight of queens (0,988).

AB - Many plants are excellent sources of nectar and pollen. However, when this food is not available, or short in supply, beekeepers have to supply artificial food to beehives. Nectar and honey are main carbohydrate sources and are used mainly for the production of energy. If there are shortfall suggests substitutes preferably as invert sugars or candies, produced by enzyme hydrolysis. Naturally collected pollen is the best source of protein for honey bee nutritional requirements and the best is collecting pollen from a number of different floral sources. Pollen is the sole source of lipids in the diet of honey bee. Sterols, especially 24-methylene chloresterol, has very important role in honey bee nutrition. Vitamins are required for optimum growth and young adult bees need the vitamin B complex for brood rearing. Water is collected by bees and used primarily as diluents for thick honey. Minerals are required by honey bees and the present elements in bee collected pollen was K, P and S.

AB - Mellifluous bee Apis mellifera carnica (the Carniolan Bee or Grey Bee) is cultivated in the region of Southeast Europe. In our work we compared certain types of artificial bee food with honey, as the natural carbohydrate food. We used the following sources of artificial bee food: table sugar syrup, 100% and 50% frudeksmal, acid sugar syrups (with lactic and oxalic acid) and enzymatic invert syrup. The obtained results confirmed the hypotheses about justification for use of enzymatic invert syrups in bee nutrition in all three seasons, especially in winter.
Dobijeni rezultati su potvrdili postavljene hipoteze o opravdanosti upotrebe enzimski invert sirupa u ishrani pčela u sva tri godišnja doba, a posebno u zimskom periodu.

Dobijeni rezultati su potvrdili postavljene hipoteze o opravdanosti upotrebe enzimski invert sirupa u ishrani pčela u sva tri godišnja doba, a posebno u zimskom periodu.",

AB - It was examined influence of capped and uncapped brood and four treatments of nourishment base on number and quality of queen cells. The results showed that the most larval acceptation was in group with capped brood and royal jelly nourishment base (66.65%) and the least was in group with uncapped brood and dry base. In the group with uncapped brood and royal jelly nourishment base was detected the most length, width and cubic of queen cells. The most depth of queen cells (20.49 mm) was in capped brood with water nourishment base.

AB - The research was conducted in order to determine the influence of pollen bees on the quantity of brood, honey and pollen at the time of flowering of Sophora japonica. The experiment was conducted on the apiary belonging to the Faculty of Agriculture of Belgrade in the period from 20 July to 10 August 1997/1999. The autochtonous bees breed Apis mellifera caraica Pollman was used in the experiment. The research established that the greatest inflow of pollen was recorded in the morning between 8 and 10 o'clock AM. The correlation between the number of pollen bees and the brood surface is strong; in the langstrooth hives bee colonies the correlation coefficient is 0.8127, while in the dadant blatt hive type bee colonies the coefficient is 0.8060. For the honey surface to be increased by 1 dm2 it takes 5.4 pollen bees more in the langstrooth hive, while it takes 10.52 bees less in the dadant blatt hive type to achieve the same goal.
