AB  - Ceramic materials with a perovskite related structures such as non-doped and doped barium titanate ceramics are attracting much interest for their application as capacitor dielectrics, resistors, thermal sensors, etc. Since mechanical activation can be used in order to modify properties of these materials, in this study microstructure evolution and electric properties of mechanically activated BaTiO3 have been analyzed. The sintering process of high purity non-doped mechanically activated BaTiO3 was monitored using a sensitive dilatometer with a heating rate of 10 degrees C/min. Investigation of the microstructure evolution of mechanically activated BaTiO3 was performed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and digital pattern recognition (DPR) methods. A dielectric study of the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition in the barium titanate ceramics was performed by recording the temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity.

Equimolar mixture of BaCO3 and TiO2 powders was activated in high energy vibromill for various grinding times. Specific surface area determinations of initial and activated powders were carried out. The phase composition and crystallographic data of initial and thermal treated powders was determined using X-ray powder diffraction method. Heating process was investigated using differential thermal analysis.

AB  - Since a lot of physical properties of novel materials are determined by their microstructure it is very important to predict and control materials microstructure and its evolution, both in technological process of material fabrication and under different regimes of operation in products. In all these cases microstructural characterization of materials play a very important role. Having this in mind, in this article new digital method has been performed. Microstructural analysis was performed on tribophysically activated BaTiO3 and liquid phase sintered BaTiO3.
