EGG quality influence on incubation results and their phenotype correlation

AB  - This study presents research results of quality and incubation values for Isa Brown hybrid eggs. Eggs were produced in the 33rd week of age at the production peak. Research was conducted on the sample of 252 incubation eggs (240 fertilized eggs). Chick hatchability compared to the number of inserted eggs was 86.51%, and compared to the number of fertilized eggs 90.83%. Average values for quality parameters of brooding eggs and incubation results were as follows: egg weight before insertion 58.41 g, egg length 5.49 cm, egg width 4.29 cm, egg shape index 78.16% and egg volume 53.14 cm3, one day old chick weight was 39.15 g, absolute egg weight loss was 6.60 g, relative egg weight loss was 11.31% and relative chick share in the egg weight was 67,03%. Statistically justified (P<0.001; P<0.01; P<0.05) correlation (complete one) was determined between egg weight and egg width (0.908), egg weight and egg volume (0.923) and egg weight and chick weight (0.918), very strong correlation was determined between egg weight and egg length (0.870), strong correlation was determined between egg weight and absolute egg weight loss (0.690), weak correlation was determined between egg shape index and egg width (0.395), and very weak correlation was determined between egg weight and egg shape index (0.188), egg weight and relative egg weight loss (-0.166), egg shape index and egg length (-0.147) and egg shape index and chick weight (0.189). Between egg weight and relative chick share in the egg weight, egg shape index and absolute egg weight loss, egg shape index and relative chick share in the egg weight no statistically justified (P>0.05) correlation was determined.

AB  - The purpose of this review is to review the current state and achievements in poultry production in Serbia and worldwide, primarily the EU. Particular emphasis is placed on impacts of different rearing system, i.e. housing and fattening, on the production and the quality of the poultry meat and eggs and, simultaneously, on the welfare of poultry and environmental protection according to EU standards. According to the latest available data, total number of poultry produced in Serbia in 2015 was 17,450,000 units and production of meat amounted to around 86,000 t, while consumption was 12.12 kg per person. Egg production in 2015 was approximately 1.7 billion eggs, which is around 202 eggs per hen. A total of 13.1 million tons of poultry meat was produced in EU in 2015. It is evident from the literature that the poultry production in EU and worldwide has undergone significant changes, and clear criteria have been established to improve the quality of the products (meat and eggs), to guarantee the safety of the food, to protect the environment, and to ensure animal welfare in line with the relevant ethic norms. For these reasons, many countries within EU and worldwide, including Serbia, attach importance to housing systems for laying hens, with particular concern for animal welfare. Alternative housing systems (floor, aviary, free range and organic production) are increasingly used in the production of poultry meat and eggs instead of conventional systems. This is because it is considered that alternative housing systems may have positive effect on the productive traits of the poultry and, consequently, on the production of the quality organic meat. Furthermore, it is evident from research that pure (indigenous) breeds and strains are given growing importance in the production of organic meat and eggs in semi-intensive, semi-extensive and even in extensive rearing systems.

Rooster body weight influence on the reproductive performance of the broiler parents

AB  - In this research influence of the rooster body weight on reproductive performance of broiler parents was examined for Ross 308 and Cobb 500 hybrids. At the beginning of the productive cycle (24 weeks of age) for roosters Ross 308 hybrids average body weight of 3,030.00 g has been determined, while for Cobb 500 rooster average body weight was 3,045.00 g. In the 42nd week of age (middle of productive cycle), body weight of Ross 308 roosters was 4,306.00 g and 4,323.00 g for Cobb 500 roosters, while at the end of productive cycle in the 61st week of age Ross 308 hybrids had average 4.908,00 g and Cobb 500 had 4,918.50 g. Determined differences in body weight of roosters (15.00 g, 17.00 g and 10.50 g) in specific periods of productive cycle, as well as difference in body weight for the entire productive cycle (19.97 g) were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Between rooster body weight and fertilized eggs laying intensity positive statistically significant (P lt 0.001; P lt 0.01; P lt 0.05) correlation coefficients were determined. Between rooster body weight and hatchability percentage of the chicks positive statistically significant (P lt 0.001; P lt 0.01; P lt 0.05) correlation coefficients were determined for both hybrids. However, based on correlation coefficient it has been determined that rooster body weight had positive influence on laying intensity of fertilized eggs till 58th week of age (Ross 308) and 60th week of age (Cobb 500), while on hatchability of chicks it had positive influence till 58th week of age for both hybrids.
AB  - Ispitivanje uticaja telesne težine petlova na reproduktivne performanse brojlerskih roditelja sprovedeno je kod hibrida Ross 308 i Cobb 500. Na početku proizvodnog ciklusa (24. nedelja starosti) kod hibrida Ross 308 utvrđena je prosečna telesna težina petlova 3.030,00 g, a Cobb 500 3.045,00 g. U 42. nedelji starosti (sredina proizvodnog ciklusa) telesna težina petlova iznosila je 4.306,00 g (Ross 308) i 4.323,00 g (Cobb 500), dok je na kraju proizvodnog ciklusa (61. nedelja starosti) telesna težina petlova kod hibrida Ross 308 iznosila 4.908,00 g, a hibrida Cobb 500 4.918,50 g. Utvrđene razlike telesne težine petlova (15.00 g, 17.00 g i 10.50 g) u određenim periodima proizvodnog ciklusa, kao i razlika u telesnoj težini petlova za ceo proizvodni ciklus (19.97 g), nisu bile statistički signifikantne (P>0.05). Između telesne težine petlova i intenziteta nosivosti oplođenih jaja utvrđeni su pozitivni statistički značajni (P lt 0.001; P lt 0.01; P lt 0.05) koeficijenti korelacije do 50. nedelje starosti kod hibrida Ross 308, odnosno 53. nedelje kod roditeljskog jata hibrida Cobb 500, a između telesne težine petlova i procenta izvodljivosti pilića utvrđeni su pozitivni statistički značajni (P lt 0.001; P lt 0.01; P lt 0.05) koeficijenti korelacije do 51. nedelje starosti kod oba ispitivana hibrida. Međutim, na osnovu koeficijenata korelacije utvrđeno je da je telesna težina petlova pozitivno uticala na intenzitet nosivosti oplođenih jaja do 58. nedelje starosti (Ross 308), tj. 60. nedelje starosti (Cobb 500), a na izvodljivost jednodnevnih brojlerskih pilića do 58. nedelje starosti kod oba ispitivana roditeljska jata. Phenotype variability of external quality traits of fertile eggs of partridge Italian bread in semi extensive breeding system

AB  - In this paper results of research of external quality traits of the fertile eggs of Partridge Italian bread in semi extensive system are shown. Research was conducted on sample of 64 eggs, divided in to two groups according to the weight. First group was eggs weighing up to the 60 g (≤ 60 g) and second group eggs weighing above 60 g (> 60 g). Aim of the research was to determine influence of the weight of the eggs to the external quality traits of fertile eggs, such as weight, length, width and shape index of the eggs in quoted breeding system. Obtained result points to the fact that Partridge Italian in semi extensive system achieves satisfying results in regard of the basic external characteristics of egg quality. Results of the conducted research show that it is needed to give higher attention to the quality of eggs used for planting, to the breeding direction, improvement of the productive and reproductive traits, and therefore to preservation of the genetic potential of different breeds and strains of chicken.
AB  - U radu su izloženi rezultati ispitivanja spoljašnjih osobina kvaliteta priplodnih jaja jarebičaste italijanke gajene u poluekstenzivnom sistemu držanja. Ispitivanja su izvršena na uzorku od 64 jajeta, podeljenih u dve težinske grupe i to: I grupa - jaja težine do 60 g (≤ 60 g) i II grupa - jaja težine preko 60 g (> 60 g). Cilj istraživanja je bio da se ispita uticaj težinske grupe jaja na spoljašnje osobine kvaliteta priplodnih jaja, kao što su težina, dužina, širina i indeks oblika jaja u navedenom sistemu držanja. Dobijeni rezultati ukazuju na činjenicu da jarebičasta italijanka u poluekstenzivnom sistemu gajenja ostvaruje zadovoljavajuće rezultate u pogledu osnovnih karakteristika spoljašnjeg kvaliteta jaja. Rezultati sprovedenih istraživanja ukazuju na to da je potrebno posvetiti veću pažnju ispitivanju kvaliteta jaja za nasad, pravcu odgajivanja, poboljšanju proizvodnih i reproduktivnih sposobnosti, a samim tim i očuvanju genetskog potencijala različitih rasa i sojeva kokoši.

AB  - The quality of poultry feed is an important precondition to achieve optimal production results, and the preservation of the health status of animals, especially in intensive livestock production, hence it is necessary to control both raw materials and finished feed mixtures. The presence of fungi (moulds) in food for animals is a natural phenomenon, not an exception. Sources of contamination of poultry feed with fungi and resulting mycotoxins vary, starting with raw materials (e. g. corn as the most common component) during harvest and transport, during storage of raw materials and finished products, as well as in the production process and manipulation of poultry feed. Mineral adsorbents are increasingly used in poultry production, especially in the nutrition of various types and categories of poultry, to control fungal contamination. Using different mineral adsorbents in poultry nutrition can prevent the losses due to mycotoxicosis. It can also prevent appearance of toxic residues in poultry products, improve production and reproductive ability of birds, and contribute to improving the quality of poultry products. In addition, the use of mineral adsorbents in poultry feeds has application in neutralising the harmful effects of mycotoxins in buildings where poultry is reared.

Some significant exterior and reproductive properties of the English Thoroughbred horse population from the stud farm 'Ljubicevo', Serbia

AB  - The investigation included 5 stallions (average age of 10.40 years) and 33 mares (average age of 10.33 years) with pedigree of the English Thoroughbred horse breed that are used for breeding on the Stud Farm Ljubicevo - Serbia. The investigation of some significant properties relating to the exterior (at stallions) and reproductive ones (at mares) were carried out in the year 2009. The following average exterior (body) measures of the stallions: the body mass (474.80 kg), withers height (160.46 cm), trunk or body length (161.88 cm), breast circumference (187.96 cm) and tibia circumference (19.22 cm) were within the standards of this horse breed of the age. The gestation period at mares, regardless the sex of a colt, averagely lasted 337.70 days. With the mares having had a male colt, the gestation lasted a little bit longer (338.92 days) than with the mares having had female colts (336.90 days). The difference in the gestation duration (2.02 days) was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Between the age of the mares and the gestation duration (regardless the sex of a colt) it was found a positive slight correlation (rp=0.320). Furthermore, between the age of the mares and the gestation duration it was found medium (rp=0.453) correlation at male colts, and quite poor correlation (rp=0.202) at female colts. Found coefficients of the phenotype correlation were not statistically confirmed (P>0.05).
AB  - Istraživanjima je obuhvaćeno 5 pastuva (prosečne starosti 10,40 godina) i 33 kobile (prosečne starosti 10,33 godina) sa poznatim poreklom (pedigreom) engleske punokrvne rase konja koja se na ergeli Ljubičevo - Srbija aktivno koriste u priplodu. Utvrđivanja važnijih eksterijernih (pastuvi), odnosno reproduktivnih svojstava (kobile) sprovedena su u 2009. godini. Utvrđene prosečne eksterijerne (telesne) mere pastuva: telesna masa (474,80 kg), visina grebena (160,46 cm), dužina trupa - tela (161,88 cm), obim grudi (187,96 cm) i obim cevanice (19,22 cm) su bile u okviru standarda ove rase konja u odgovarajućoj starosnoj dobi. Bremenitost (gestacija) kobila, bez obzira na pol ždrebeta, u proseku je trajala 337,70 dana. Kod kobila koje su oždrebile mušku ždrebad bremenitost je trajala nešto duže (338,92 dana), nego kod kobila koje su oždrebile žensku ždrebad (336,90 dana). Razlika u trajanju bremenitosti (2,02 dana) nije bila statistički signifikantna (P>0,05). The effect of different levels of organic selenium on broiler slaughter traits

AB  - The effect of different levels of organic selenium (selenized yeast) on slaughter meat traits of fattening chickens (broilers) was investigated. Trial was carried out on 120 Hybro-PN chickens divided into four groups, in duration of six weeks. All groups of chickens were fed complete mixtures, and selenium was added to the food in the form of selenized yeast in the amount of 0 (I ); 0,3 (II); 0,6 (III) or 0,9mg/kg (IV-group). The highest average values of carcass yield 'conventional processing', 'ready to roast' and 'ready to grill' were recorded in chickens of group III (2059,6, 1851,97 and 1756,45g), with addition of 0,6mg Se/kg, followed by chickens of group II (2048,17, 1841,36 and 1748,57g) and group IV (1957,46, 1764,22 and 1676,05g) with 0,3 and 0,9mg/kg of added selenium, respectively, whereas the lowest values (1835,21, 1660,87 and 1572,61g) were established in chickens of group I without addition of this micro element. Average values of slaughter yields 'conventional processing', 'ready to roast' and 'ready to grill' were approximately the same in chickens of all investigated groups, and established differences showed no statistical significance (P > 0,05). The lowest breast mass was in I group (573,55g), and the highest in group III (657g). Chickens of groups II and IV (with 0,3 and 0,9mg Se/kg of feed) realized breast mass of 627,90 and 633,12g. Compared to group I, average breast mass of chickens in groups III and IV was considerably higher (P  lt  0,05 and P  lt  0,01). Share of breast in the mass of processed carcass was the highest in groups III and IV (37,40 and 37,86%), and the lowest in group II (36,0%). In chickens of group I the stated value was 36,47%. Average share of thighs in the mass of processed carcass was approximately the same in all investigated groups. The highest value (14,4%) was established in chickens of group II, and the lowest (13,98%), in chickens of III investigation group. Chickens fed organic selenium in diet (0,3, 0,6 and 0,9mg/kg) had by 3,80, 3,74 and 3,18% higher share of drumsticks in the mass of processed carcass compared to group I.

Ogled je izveden na 120 pilića provenijence Hybro-PN podeljenih u četiri grupe, u trajanju od šest nedelja. Sve grupe pilića hranjene su potpunim smešama, a selen je dodavan u hranu u formi seleniziranog kvasca u količini od 0 (I ); 0,3 (II); 0,6 (III) ili 0,9mg/kg (IV-grupa). Najveće prosečne vrednosti za prinos trupova 'standardna obrada', 'spremno za pečenje' i 'spremno za roštilj' imali su pilići III grupe (2059,6, 1851,97 i 1756,45g), sa dodatkom 0,6mg Se/kg. AB  - The aim of this work was parallel investigation of the producing characteristics of light line hen hybrids. Investigation enclosed two hen proveniences: Hisex Brown and Shawer 579. Within the period of 19 up to 63 weeks we followed next parameters: egg-laying hen body mass, mortality, food consumption and egg-laying capacity. Hens body mass on the beginning of the examination, within the 19 weeks of growth was, for Hisex Brown provenience 1607g, and for Shawer 579 provenience 1563g. Hisex Brown provenience achieved about 250 g higher body mass on the end of investigation. During the experiment, mortality at Hisex Brown egg-laying hen was a little bit smaller (5,40%), while the Shawer 579 had 5,56% of dead hens. Globally, the mortality at both hen hybrids was in the range of technological normative. The average consumption of the food at Hisex Brown provenience was higher and it was 127,28g, and at Shawer 579 provenience 125,14g. The average consumption of the nutrition for egg production at both provenience was the same (150g).
AB  - Cilj ovog rada bio je da se izvrši uporedno ispitivanje proizvodnih sposobnosti lakih linijskih hibrida kokoši. Ispitivanjima su obuhvaćene dve provenijence kokoši: Hisex Brown i Shawer 579. U periodu od 19. do 63. nedelje starosti praćeni su sledeći parametri: telesna masa nosilja, mortalitet, utrošak hrane i nosivost. Telesna masa kokoši na početku ispitivanja, sa 19 nedelja uzrasta, za provenijencu Hisex Brown, iznosila je 1607 g, a za provenijencu Shawer 579-1563 g. Veću telesnu masu na kraju eksperimenta, za oko 250 g postigle su nosilje provenijence Hisex Brown. U toku ispitivanja, mortalitet kod Hisex Brown nosilja je bio nešto manji (5,40%), dok je Shawer 579 imao 5,56% uginulih nosilja. Posmatrano u celini, mortalitet nosilja kod oba hibrida, bio je u granicama tehnoloških normativa. Prosečna dnevna potrošnja hrane kod provenijence Hisex Brown je veća i iznosila je 127,28 g, a kod Shawer 579-125,14 g. Prosečna potrošnja hrane za proizvodnju jajeta kod obe provenijence je bila ista (150 g).

AB  - In this paper are presented and analyzed reused productivity results, of Arbor Acres broilers during the last business year (2002) at the poultry farm „Kokofarm" - Valjevo. Unfortunately during that year, only 44345 birds of both sexes were growned. Period of growing lasted for 49 days. During the growing period 4621 birds has died (10.46 %). Average body weight at the end of the growing period was 3.883 kg and a feed conversion ratio was 2.10 kg. Productivity index value was 163.85. Ratio of nutritional use-full body parts („grill ready") was 75.16 %.
AB  - U radu su prikazani i analizirani ostvareni proizvodni rezultati brojlerskih pilića Arbor Acres u poslednjoj godini poslovanja (2002. godini) živinarske farme „Kokofarm"- Valjevo. U pomenutoj godini tovljeno je svega 44.345 grla oba pola. Tov je trajao 49 dana. U toku tova uginulo je ukupno 4.621 grlo (10,46%). Prosečna telesna masa na kraju tova iznosila je l,883kg, a konverzija hrane 2,10kg. Vrednost proizvodnog indeksa iznosila je 163,85. Klanični randman („spremno za roštilj") iznosio je 75,16%.
