AB - The effects of different freezing methods and long-term frozen storage on quality of strawberry and raspberry were investigated, that is, the retention of initial property and free radical scavenging (AO) activity after individual quick freezing (IQF) and conventional (discontinuous) freezing. The physicochemical properties, vitamin C, and AO activity were more affected by long-term frozen storage than by freezing itself; however, their better retention was obtained after IQF. Moreover, AO activity was found to be higher in frozen samples compared to fresh fruits, but significant decrease was detected after 8 months of frozen storage. Despite the significantly higher initial content of vitamin C in strawberry, it demonstrated a lower AO activity than raspberry. Sensory attributes were significantly affected by freezing; the most considerable changes were recorded on their texture/firmness, especially after conventional (slow) freezing. Therefore, IQF can generally be suggested as a more suitable method of preserving these delicate fruits than slow freezing. Practical applications: Nowadays, consumers are increasingly interested in foods that possess not only good nutritional value but also health-promoting property. Berries are known as rich sources of micronutrients and antioxidant compounds, but consumption of fresh strawberry and raspberry fruits may be limited because of seasonal and market availability; therefore, they must be preserved commonly by freezing. Frozen food industry is of crucial importance for developing countries, in which the fast freezing industry is rapidly developed. Investigation of the effect of industrial freezing and frozen storage on retention of the quality-related property and antioxidant activity is important for providing the best quality for consumers and health benefits, as well as international fruit trade. In addition, the results obtained in this study could provide best practice and guidance for the frozen fruit industry.

AB - In the paper analyzes the trends in the development of market production of fruit (on the example of the apple and the plum) and grapes in Serbia from 1976 to 2015. The grouping of the Serbian districts according to the degree of the market production of fruit and grapes in 2015 was performed by a cluster analysis, on the basis of the six features of production, five features of the capacities, and five features of development. According to the data for 2015, the degree of the marketability of apples in Serbia was 47.7%, plums 15.9%, and grapes 18.3%. The Serbia-North Region shows a surplus in the production of apples, and a deficit in the production of plums (-181.7%) and grapes (-99.1%). The Serbia-South Region has a surplus in the production of the analyzed kinds of fruit (the apple accounting for 43.0%, and the plum 50.9%) and grapes (45.2%).

AB - This paper examines banking industry practice in the area of circular economy reporting with the specific emphasis on waste management reporting in this sector. Paper answers the basic question - is financial service sector exempt from the circular economy reporting requirements having low material usage and resource consumption? Manuscript indicates that in Serbia waste management reporting in banks is in the early stage. Most of the waste management indicators in banks are included as integral part of sustainability reports or as part of management report. Paper indicates that less than half of the bank population in Serbia prepares standard report required by the Environmental Protection Agency. Having in mind these results, banks managers and state officials should take into consideration the fact that most of the banks do not report on flow of waste and most of these indicators are not regularly published on website implying that stakeholders and investors are not adequately informed on the inclusion of banks into circular economy environment. Lagging behind waste management requirements could be potentially hazardous having in mind the fact that Serbia strives towards European Union membership where the legislation and practical alignment with the EU regulation is inevitable process.

Reporting on sustainable development: Characteristics, disadvantages and perspectives in the Republic of Serbia

AB - Reporting on sustainable development has traditionally been a part of the management report. However, after the year 2000 many companies started to prepare separate report on sustainable development based on the current reporting framework. Giving that quality of sustainable information was not at the expected level, based on the fact that the sustainable reports were prepared voluntarily by companies, European Commission passed the Directive 2014/95/EU which serves as amending Directive 2013/34/EU. The Directive 2014/95/EU states that entities with more than 500 employees have an obligation to report certain non-financial information as a supplement to the management report. Otherwise stated, the Directive requires that under the specified condition, entities prepare the sustainable development report based on one among many contemporary frameworks. Research conducted on the entities whose shares are traded at the Belgrade Stock Exchange shows that Serbian companies prepare superficial reports, focusing more on the form than the content and usefulness of this information reported on the surface of the management report. The research shows also that development of sustainable reporting in Serbia is at a very low level. It seems that only one company from the Belex 15 index prepares the separate sustainable report based on GRI standards. Taking into consideration that the practice of adequate disclosure of non-financial information is missing in Serbia, sustained by the inadequate mindset of investors that do not support the importance of this information, the application of this newly passed Directive which is going to be operationalized in the Company Law in Serbia or the Law on Accounting, require Serbian companies to invest great effort in order to prepare this report.

Taking into consideration that the practice of adequate disclosure of non-financial information is missing in Serbia, sustained by the inadequate mindset of investors that do not support the importance of this information, the application of this newly passed Directive which is going to be operationalized in the Company Law in Serbia or the Law on Accounting, require Serbian companies to invest great effort in order to prepare this report., Izveštavanje o održivom razvoju tradicionalno se vrši kroz izveštaj o poslovanju.

AB - After transitional debacles and failures, structural degradation and recession, reindustrialization is imposed as a crucial stage in the economic development of Serbia. The production-market potentials of the agro-complex (as a complex economic subsystem of pre-farm, farm and post-farm activities) and its place in the national economy open the significant possibilities of the revitalization of the industries of agrarian inputs (agricultural machines and equipment, mineral fertilizers and pesticides). Considering the structural significance of the pre-farm agrarian sector in the Serbian economy, this paper analyzes the fundamental features of production and the foreign-trade exchange, especially the dynamics and changes in the volume and structure of production and the import of agrarian inputs. On that basis, through a target comparative analysis of multi-year data series (1986-2011), the paper explores the trends of production and employment, identifies transitional distortions and the growing import dependence of the Serbian economy and the agro-complex in particular, considers the agrarian potentials in a possible reindustrialization primarily via the revitalization of the industry of agrarian inputs, and highlights a special phenomenon of the opportunity costs of the Serbian agrarian development.
Proizvodno- tržišni potencijali agrokompleksa (kao složenog privrednog subsistema predfarmskih, farmskih i postfarmskih delatnosti) i njegovo mesto u nacionalnoj ekonomiji, otvara značajne mogućnosti revitalizacije industrija agrarnih inputa (poljoprivrednih mašina i opreme, mineralnih đubriva i pesticida). Sagledavajući strukturni značajpredfarmskog agrarnog sektora u srpskoj ekonomiji, u radu se analiziraju osnovna obeležja proizvodnje i spoljnotrgovinske razmene, posebno dinamika ipromene obima i strukture proizvodnje i uvoza agrarnih inputa.

AB - The paper analyzes the trends in the development of industrial crop production in the case of sugar beet and sunflower in Serbia from 1976 to 2013. Grouping of regions (4 regions without Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija) and districts (25 districts) in Serbia in 2013, according to the characteristics of land capacity, production of sugar beet and sunflower and level of development, was carried out by cluster analysis. Based on the median value of the important characteristics of available land capacity, production volume and economic development in municipalities, I-distance method were ranked districts in Serbia from 1 to 25. Similarities between the sugar beet and sunflower production regions in Serbia were determined by the method of complete-linkage clustering, and the results were presented in the dendrogram. According to data for 2013 it was found that 99.8% of sugar beet production and 93.9% of sunflower production in Serbia comes from the Vojvodina region. The average yields per hectare for analyzed crops in the areas of the Vojvodina region, on average, were by up to 10% higher compared to the yields in Serbia. According to the characteristics of land capacity and production, areas of the Vojvodina region belong to the highest rank 1-7, while according to the characteristics of the development level, these areas belong to rank 2-13.

AB - Despite the constant development of the system of forecasting unpredicted events and risks, there are many economic sectors where revenues depend directly on the wheather variables. Risk management is a continuous process whose goals are to predict and stabilize cash flows and maximize profit of a company. Weather derivatives are special form of financial risk transfer instruments and they are associated with specific weather events or conditions that directly or indirectly affect the third party outcomes. Unlike traditional insurance contracts, weather derivatives are realized when the agreed time variable exceeds a predefined value for a specific period. Therefore, financial derivatives make more probable the uncertainty of future operations in terms of present actions. Market for the weather derivatives is the youngest and also the fastest growing market for financial derivatives. Insurance against weather risk primarily was applied in the energy sector. Market development and the ability to trade with weather derivatives, enabled the development of new types of weather derivatives offered to companies. These new types of derivatives provide protection not only from changes in temperature, but also from rainfall, wind intensity, humidity and pressure, cloudiness, snow melting, sea temperature, wave height etc. This paper presents a definition, classification and historical development of weather derivatives. The aim is to emphasize characteristics of this type of derivatives and their distinctive features related to weather conditions and variables. In this paper the focus is on weather derivatives used by agriculture industry whose results of operations mainly depend on weather variables.

AB - Up until now accounting standards regarding financial instruments were changed several times. The latest change was the issuance of the IFRS 9 Financial instruments published for the purpose of simplifying the rules in its predecessor IAS 39 Financial instruments: recognition and measurement. From the above mentioned changes of accounting regulatory regime for financial instruments we may conclude that accounting bodies, so far, have not found the adequate approach and treatment for the financial instruments. They considered that fair value would be a revolutionary measure for the financial instruments and that this measure would provide more relevant, transparent and comparable information. But the standard setters did not predict that this measurement attribute might have an effect on earnings power and financial position of a company. In this paper we observe critiqually the main differences between IFRS 9 and IAS 39 regarding the recognition and measurement of financial instruments and with an emphasis on of some problems of early adoption of IFRS 9 by companies.

AB - The paper analyzes the process of the industrialization, i.e. deindustrialization of the Serbian economy in the time period after the Second World War until today. In the observed period, two contrary processes have been recorded. Until the beginning of the 1980s, the process of the accelerated industrialization of the economy was taking place. In the structure of the GDP, industry increased its share to around 44%. At the beginning of the 1990s, East European socialist countries and Serbia commenced the process of the transition of the economy and the economic system. In the starting phase of transition, all countries recorded a negative rate of their economic growth, a fall in the GDP and a reduction in the share of industry in the structure of GDP of the economy. Differently from the countries in which the negative tendencies of the economic growth were stopped in the mid-1990s, and which became the EU member countries in 2004 and 2007, the negative trend of the economic growth and the deindustrialization of the economy in Serbia continued during the first decade of the 21st century. In the previous twenty-year period, the GDP of the Serbian economy was reduced to 60% of the level of the 1990s. The 15.9% share of industry in the structure of the economy in 2009 is lower than the share of Yugoslavia's industry immediately after the Second World War (around 20%).
AB - U radu je analiziran proces industrijalizacije, odnosno deindustrijalizacije privrede Srbije u periodu posle Drugog svetskog rata do danas. U posmatranom razdoblju zabeležena su dva suprotna procesa. Do početka osamdesetih godina u Srbiji se odvijao proces ubrzane industrijalizacije privrede. Početkom devedesetih godina istočnoevropske socijalističke zemlje i Srbija su započele proces tranzicije privrede i privrednog sistema. U početnoj fazi tranzicije sve zemlje su zabeležile negativnu stopu privrednog rasta, pad BDP i smanjenje učešća industrije u strukturi BDP privrede.

AB - Considerations of the export potential of the agrarian complex (as an economic subsystem of pre-farming, farming, and post-farming activities) and the place it occupies in the national economic structure are most frequently reduced to an analysis of the movement of the volume and structure of export and import, i.e. the balance of the foreign trade of agricultural products. Given the specific nature of agricultural production, the subject matter of the paper is the agricultural products and foodstuff, i.e. the entire commodity sectors or only certain subsectors (according to the international classification) into which products of agricultural origin are classified. On the other hand, the analysis also includes agrarian inputs (equipment, pesticides, and fertilizers), which can be identified as products intended for agriculture. By exploring the structural significance of the agri-food sector in Serbian economy, this paper analyzes the basic characteristics of foreign trade exchange, in particular the sectoral dynamics and changes in the volume and structure of agrarian export. This is the basis on which the internal competitiveness of certain commodity sectors is established, export potentials are identified, and opportunity costs of Serbian agricultural foreign trade are indicated by means of a targeted comparative analysis of several annual series of data (2005-2011) using specific methods of analysis of the total and intra-agrarian relative coverage of import by export (coefficient calculation and ranking).
Sagledavajući strukturni značaj agroprehrambenog sektora u srpskoj ekonomiji, u radu se analiziraju osnovna obeležja spoljnotrgovinske razmene, posebno sektorska dinamika i promene obima i strukture agrarnog izvoza. Na toj osnovi se, ciljnom komparativnom analizom višegodišnjih serija podataka (2005-2011), koristeći specifične metode analize ukupne i intraagrarne relativne pokrivenosti uvoza izvozom (izračunavanjem koeficijenata i rangiranjem), utvrđuje interna konkurentnost pojedinih robnih sektora, identifikuju izvozni potencijali ali ukazuje i na oportunitetne troškove agrarne spoljne trgovine Srbije.

AB - This paper presents a comparative analysis of the major indicators of both the world and domestic markets of alcoholic beverages. Namely, for the last 21 years, for the observed subperiods, the method of comparative analysis were used to study quantitative and structural differences in the production and trade of analyzed product groups, at both the world and at the level of continents and some countries. The leading manufacturers and flows of international trade and the leading exporters and importers of wine, beer and distilled alcoholic beverages were defined, with special emphasis on the importance of Serbia, i.e. its position in the global market for all these products. Pursuant to the above, and importance of analyzed product groups for the domestic market, i.e. agroindustry and the economy as a whole, this paper specially studies balances, structure, dynamics and regional orientation of foreign trade exchange in wine, beer, and distilled alcoholic beverages. In addition, the paper points to the needs, capabilities, measures and directions of further development of domestic production and export of products analyzed.

AB - This paper examines the interdependency between the movements of the level of market (purchase) prices and sowed areas under sunflower, soya, and oilseed rape, i.e. between the relative prices of these oil crops and predominant crop-husbandry products (wheat and/or corn), on the one hand, and the areas to be allocated for oil crops cultures. The models of the regression of the scope of sowed areas and purchase prices of oil crops, i.e. the interdependency of these phenomena, are determined by means of reliable statistical methods (the standard error of regression, the coefficient of the trend variation and the determination coefficient). At the same time, the testing of the series has been carried out by means of the mathematical models of functions, whereas the significance of the generated regression dependencies has been estimated by means of the t-test.

AB - In the paper, the tendencies in the development of wheat and corn production in the time period from 1976 to 2010 are researched, with a focus on the cluster analysis of the market production of these products per districts in Serbia in 2009. On the basis of more important available land capacities, the volume of production and scope of economic development, the I-distance method is used to rank the districts. The ranking of the districts according to the analyzed characteristics is conducted on the basis of the median value of data per municipalities. For each of the mentioned groups of characteristics, the I-distance is used to rank the districts from 1 to 25, Rank 1 being the best and Rank 25 the worst. The similarities of the districts according to the analyzed characteristics are accounted for by a complete link method of a hierarchical cluster analysis and the results are represented by a dendrogram and a cartogram. Apart from favorable conditions (land, climate, and so on), producers' traditional habits have to the greatest extent had an impact on the unjustifiably high presence of wheat and corn in the structure of crop production. That, to a great extent, has had an influence on the high marketability of the production of wheat and corn in Serbia as well.

Apart from favorable conditions (land, climate, and so on), producers' traditional habits have to the greatest extent had an impact on the unjustifiably high presence of wheat and corn in the structure of crop production. That, to a great extent, has had an influence on the high marketability of the production of wheat and corn in Serbia as well., U radu su istraživane tendencije u razvoju proizvodnje pšenice i kukuruza u period od 1976. do 2010. godine, sa težištem na klaster analizi tržišne proizvodnje ovih proizvoda po okruzima u Srbiji 2009. godine.

AB - This paper presents the regional comparative analysis of major parameters of the world market and trade of milk, dairy products, eggs and wool. The paper particularly analyzes trends and regional differences in the volume, dynamics and structure of production and trade of these products. The regions and countries, largest producers, exporters and importers of above-mentioned products were defined. Based on the previous one, it was found that there are very significant regional differences and that the largest part of production and trade, i.e. exports and imports, is concentrated in the 15 countries, the largest producers and largest exporters and importers of these products. Demonstrated differences and the current state of relations between the observed phenomena are due to many natural, economic and social factors. In considering the relationship trends and degree of influence of these factors on changes of the investigated phenomena, quantitative and qualitative market research methods were used. .

AB - This paper presents a comparative analysis of the major indicators of both world and domestic markets of milk, dairy products, eggs and wool. Namely, for the past 20 years, for the observed subperiods, the method of comparative analysis was used to study quantitative and structural differences in the production and trade of analyzed product groups, at both the world and at the level of continents and some countries. The leading manufacturers and flows of international trade and the leading exporters and importers of milk, dairy products, eggs and wool were defined, with special emphasis on importance of Serbia, i.e. its position in the global market for these products. Pursuant to the above, and importance of analyzed product groups for the domestic market, i.e. agroindustry and the economy as a whole, this paper specially studies balances, structure, dynamics and regional orientation of foreign trade in milk, dairy products, eggs and wool. In addition, the paper points to the needs, capabilities, measures and directions of further development of domestic production and export of products analyzed.

AB - This paper presents two mutually opposed aspects of the market as a regulatory mechanism in the economy. From the aspect of entrepreneurship, the free operation of 'invisible hand' encourage the successful, but limits and neutralizes unsuccessful, and from the aspect of social equality, through the market, legally deepens the gap between rich and poor. It was pointed out that the resolution of decades of controversy of the market as a regulatory mechanism leads to the balanced operation of markets and social equality criteria, which is the one of the characteristics of models of economic systems of developed countries in Europe and the EU. As a way to resolve market controversies, transition countries have adopted the model of 'reformed welfare society'. The results of transition in Central and Southeastern European countries are different and depending on the closeness of their model of a market economy with developed European countries. The economic effects of the transition were monitored in two groups of countries that became full members and third, those which have not yet. Countries from the first and second group that have became full members of the EU in 2004, according to selected indicators, in 2003 reached or surpassed the pre-transition level of development. From the third group of countries that have not yet joined the EU, Croatia has the best value for most indicators. Measured by purchasing power parity Croatia reached 50% of GDP in EU-25. Unfortunately, analyzed indicators were much lower in Serbia. The value of GDP reached only 30% of the EU-25, and FDI/capita 1119 euros, especially so called 'Green field' investments, are at the level of 24.4% of Croats. Analyzed indicators in the third group of countries are well below that level.

AB - The paper analyzes the impact of scientific and technological progress on the environment and the impact of biotechnology and eco-technology in agricultural development strategy, based on the rational use of natural resources. The key problem in the application of technological developments in agriculture is based on creating the optimal interdependence of the development of the biotechnology and of eco-technology on one hand and optimal use of natural agricultural resources from the other. Special emphasis is placed on the development of 'friendly' technologies that have a positive impact on the ecology and the escalation of development and economic opportunities. On this basis, the sustainable development of agriculture is an essential foundation for achieving and directing the production of biologically valuable and quality agricultural products. .

AB - The paper contains a comparative analysis of some of the most important indicators of both global and domestic meat market. Namely, the quantitative and structural differences in the production and trade of meat for observed subperiods in the last nineteen years for the world, continents and some countries were analyzed, by using the method of comparative analysis. Leading producers, international trade flows, leading exporters and importers of meat were defined, with special emphasis on the position and importance of Serbia on the world meat market. Pursuant to the above, as well as the importance of the above-mentioned product for the domestic market, ie agroindustry and the economy as a whole, the paper particularly studies balances, structure, dynamics and regional orientation of foreign trade of domestic meat and meat products. In addition, the paper points to the needs, capabilities, measures and directions of further development of domestic production and export of products analyzed.

AB - According to theories on direct foreign investments and examples in practise, and using directions from normative and historic method, in this paper are analyzed negative consequences of foreign direct investments on economies of different countries, with emphasis on agriculture. There are many support to foreign direct investments (FDI) from the government, as the only salutary solution for slacken economy, in countries like Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Albania, etc. Real positions of economies (in Poland, Hungary, Mexico, Egypt, Croatia, Serbia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, etc), where FDI were welcomed as the only salutary solution, recommended from IMF and WB, by title 'structural adjustment', 'macroeconomic stability and competitiveness' for economy and government of these countries, reveal the true face of FDI. According to Goldsmith E., Mender J., 1996, ruthless search for lowest wage, softest provisions (often on the edge of the law) and the cheapest resources in the aim of achieving extra profit, are often called 'race to the bottom', where 'employees and government race for job with other workers and other countries, and competition is based on following: Who will work for less money? Who will accept half time job? Who will abandon social insurance and provisions regarding protection on working place? Who will allow that toxic waste is thrown in his back yard?'.
