Bionomy of the laurel scale Aonidia lauri (Bouche) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) in Podgorica, Montenegro

AB  - Aonidia lauri (Bouche) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) is a serious pest of laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) in urban parts of the City of Podgorica (Montenegro). Severe infestation causes chlorotic spots and necrotic rings around feeding spots, drying and dieback of leaves and buds. In addition, plants become physiologically weak and lose in aesthetic quality, while continuous infestation in urban areas often leads to partial or complete drying of plants. This study of the biology of A. lauri on L. nobilis was carried out at three locations in Podgorica ('Stara Varoš', 'Centar' and 'Preko Morače'), Montenegro, in 2010 and 2011. A. lauri developed three generations annually and overwintered on laurel leaves and branches as the second-instar nymph-larval stage. An extended period of larval development ensures a continuous presence of all development stages on plants, which leads to overlapping of generations. Sporadic predatory ladybirds, Chilocorus bipustulatus (L.) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), whose larvae and adults feed on scales, were detected inside A. lauri colonies.
AB  - Aonidia lauri (Comstock) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) je na području Podgorice veoma opasna štetočina lovora (Laurus nobilis L.). Visok stepen infestacije biljaka izaziva pojavu hlorotičníh pega i nekrotičnih polja oko mesta ishrane, sušenja lišća i pupoljaka. Pored toga, biljke fiziološki slabe, gube estetsku vrednost, a kontinuirani napad u gradskim uslovima često dovodi do njihovog delimičnig ili potpunog sušenja. U više lokacija na teritoriji Podgorice, na uzorkovanim biljkama lovora intenzitet napada je ocenjen sa 4, odnosno svi delovi biljke su bili naseljeni brojnim jedinkama koje su formirale guste kolonije. Biologija i štetnost Aonidia lauri proučavana je u 2010. i 2011. godini, na L. nobilis. Utvrđeno je da vrsta ima tri generacije godišnje i da prezimljava u drugom larvenom stupnju na listovima i granama lovora. Imaga prve generacije registrovana su krajem marta i početkom aprila, druge generacije krajem juna i početkom jula i treće, tokom septembra. A. lauri je viviparna vrsta. Razvučen period pojave larvi obezbeđuje stalno prisustvo svih razvojnih stadijuma na biljkama, što dovodi do preklapanja generacija. U kolonijama A. lauri, registrovani su pojedinačni primerci predatorske bubamare Chilocorus bipustulatus (L.) (Coccinellidae) čiji su se larve i imaga hranili vašima.

Damage by sandhill snail (Theba pisana Müller) in the area of Ulcinj

AB  - This paper presents the first data on the damage by the sandhill snail, Theba pisana (Müller) in the territory of Montenegro. A great population density and destructive activity together has significantly inhibited production in the nursery of fruit trees and ornamental plants near Ulcinj during the summer 2010th. There are 23 ornamental and 17 fruit species in the nursery. For every plant species the level of infestation has been determined, the presence of direct damage from feeding, as well as damage from excessive accumulation of snails on green plant organs (chlorosis). Implemented control measures in the nursery have been analyzed. This paper also presents a literature review related to bioecology of T. pisana, control techniques, as well as direct recommendations for the implementation of control in the future.
AB  - U ovom radu su predstavljeni prvi podaci o štetnosti puža peščara, Theba pisana (Müller), na teritoriji Crne Gore. Tokom leta 2010. godine, u rasadniku voćaka i ukrasnog bilja kod Ulcinja, utvrđene su velika gustina populacije i ekonomski značajne štete od puža peščara. Pregledom su obuhvaćene 23 ukrasne i 17 voćnih vrsta, na kojima je utvrđivan nivo infestacije, prisustvo direktnih šteta nastalih ishranom (izgrizlina), kao i šteta nastalih preteranim nagomilavanjem puževa na biljnim organima (hloroza). Analizirane su i sprovedene mere suzbijanja u rasadniku. U radu je dat pregled literaturnih podataka vezanih za bioekologiju T. pisana, tehnike suzbijanja, kao i direktna preporuka za sprovođenje kontrole u budućnosti.

AB  - Three new invasive species of aphids have been found in Serbia: Chaitophorus populifolli Essig, Myzocallis walshii (Monell) and Trichosiphonaphis polygonifoliae (Shinji) and two have been found in Montenegro: Aphis illinoisensis Shimer and Tinocallis kahawaluokalani (Kirkaldy). A. illinoisensis is a pest of the grapevine, T. polygonifoliae, feeds on a decorative shrub (Lonicera) and the other three feed on trees (Populus, Quercus and Lagerostroemia). Three of the species are American aphids and two are of Asian origin. Their morphology, illustrated by original drawings and data on the biology and distribution are given.

Outbreak, intensity of infestation and control of two new Eriophyids, Aceria oleae and Ahevtchenkella barensis, on olive nursery plants in Montenegro

AB  - Only two species of eriophyoid mites, Ditrimacus athiasella Keifer and Oxycenus maxwelli (Keifer), have been registered in Montenegro until recently. Late in April 2007, chlorotic spots and deformations were found on apical leaves of one-year old seedlings of the žutica variety in a greenhouse in the town of Bar. Two species of eriophyoid mites were identified from the collected material, Aceria oleae, a widely distributed species in Mediterranean countries, and Shevtchenkela barensis, described as a new species in the world acarofauna. The intensity of infestation was calculated from all visually examined seedlings (2,560), as well as the percentage of seedlings with observed symptoms. Applying the method of periodic sampling, 50 seedlings (2 % of the total number) were chosen. The intensity of injury was estimated on the new growth. Of the total number of examined seedlings, obvious symptoms were detected on 61.45% of the plants. Of the 50 chosen seedlings, 56 % had all of their young leaflets injuried. Mite control was applied three times. After the third treatment, new leaves without symptoms emerged, while untreated seedlings stopped to grow, their injuried leaves fell off and the seedlings ultimately dried out completely.

Krajem aprila 2007. godine u jednom stakleniku u Baru, registrovane su hlorotične promjene i deformacije na vršnim listovima jednogodišnjih sadnica sorte žutica. Sa sakupljenog materijala identifikovane su dvije vrste eriofidnih grinja: Aceria oleae koja je široko raprostranjena u zemljama Mediterana i Shevtchenkela barensis koja je nova vrsta za svjetsku akarofaunu. Radi utvrđivanja intenziteta napada izvršen je vizuelni pregled svih sadnica u stakleniku (2560) i utvrđen procenat sadnica sa vidljivim simptomima napada. Metodom slučajnog izbora, odabrano je 50 sadnica (2% od ukupnog broja) i na novom prirastu izvršena ocjena intenziteta napada. Od ukupnog broja pregledanih sadnica na 61,45% utvrđeni su vidljivi simptomi napada, a od 50 odabranih, na 56% svi mladi listovi su bili napadnuti. Suzbijanje grinja obavljeno je u tri navrata preparatima na bazi dimetoata, sumpora i endosulfana. Nakon trećeg tretmana, pojavili su se mladi listovi na kojima nije bilo simptoma napada, dok su netretirane sadnice prestale sa rastom, napadnuti listovi su otpali što je dovelo do potpunog sušenja tih sadnica.
