AB  - Sweet maize, a popular vegetable, occupies an important place in the population's diet, and in recent decades, the area under this crop has been increasing. In this paper, the influence of cover crops (CC), with and without the application of microbiological fertilizer, on the yield and yield components of sweet maize (hyrbid ZPSC 421su, FAO 400) was examined. The experiment was carried out at the "Zemun Polje" Maize Research Institute during 2014/152015/16. CC consisted of four types of plants: 2 legumes: T1-common vetch, T2-field pea, 2 non-leguminous species: T3-winter oats and T4-fodder kale. Two variants with mixtures were: T5-common vetch + winter oats and T6-field pea + winter oats and two controls T7 (straw) and T8 (bare soil). CC was sown in autumn, plowed at the end of April or May, after which 1/2 of the plot was treated with microbiological fertilizer. Sweet maize was sown in mid-May at a density of 65,000 plants per ha. For industrial processing, the shape, size and uniformity of the corn cob, grain size, and row configuration are important. CC influenced the increase in the number of grain rows and the number of grains in a row, the most in the variant T4, and the weakest in the variants with mixtures (T5 and T6). The highest cob length values were measured in the T4 variant. The largest cob diameter was measured in 2016 in T4 (4.6 cm), and the smallest value in controls (3.1 cm and 3.3 cm) in 2015. By comparing the examined years, we can see that in the first year the highest yield was achieved in the T4 variant (6261.70 kg ha-1), while the lowest was achieved in the T6 variant (2732.88 kg ha-1) in the second year.

Zinc biofortification of bread winter wheat grain by single zinc foliar application

AB  - Wheat grain Zn concentration has important implications for Zn dietary intake in humans. Zn biofortification of wheat by Zn foliar application has been recognized as an efficient tool to enhance grain Zn level. In Serbia, wheat is a staple crop, and no attention is paid to wheat grain as a source of Zn. For the first time, we investigated the effect of Zn foliar application on grain Zn concentration and yield of high-yielding local bread wheat cultivars in Serbia as potential to improve Zn intake in local population. Field experiments were conducted over two growing seasons at two sites located in Vojvodina Province. Zn was applied by spraying of 0.5% water solution of ZnSO4 at the end of flowering stage. Zn foliar application had no significant effect on grain yield. Significant increases of Zn grain concentration resulted from Zn treatment in all of five cultivars tested, ranging from 15 to 49%. No significant difference between the two sites was found in the mean increase in grain Zn concentration by Zn foliar application compared with the control. No correlation was found between grain yield and grain Zn concentration, implying that high grain yields common in intensive wheat production in Serbia do not limit Zn biofortification of grain by Zn foliar application. Zn biofortification of wheat grain by a single foliar spray at the end of the flowering stage can be recommended as an efficient tool to increase Zn intake in human population and prevent low dietary Zn intake.

Fenotipske promene pri sortnoj reprodukciji pšenice

AB  - Razvijeno i dobro organizirano sjemenarstvo podrazumijeva stalnu
proizvodnju sjemena svih kategorija i na taj način održavanja nivoa genetske
čistoće sorti pšenice. Ispitivane su tri sorte ozime pšenice Instituta PKB
Agroekonomik različitih vrijednosti morfoloških osobina biljaka, rodnosti i
osobina kvalitete zrna: PKB Kristina, PKB Roksanda i PKB Rodika. Svaka
sorta pšenice uzgajana je u tri različite varijante agrotehničkih uvjeta,
prilagođenih dobivanju tri kategorije sjemenskih usjeva: predosnovno sjeme,
osnovno sjeme i certificiranono sjeme I. generacije. Kategorija sjemena
predosnovno sjeme imala je najveće prosječne vrijednosti za obje godine
istraživanja za ispitivane osobine: broj sekundarnih izdanaka, broj klasića u
klasu i broj zrna u klasu. Kategorija sjemena predosnovno sjeme ima najveći
broj klasića u klasu, što pokazuje da se oni razvijaju na dužim klasovima nego
ostale kategorije sjemena. Kategorija sjemena predosnovno sjeme na osnovi ove
karakteristike ima potencijal za formiranje većeg broja zrna u klasu nego ostale
ispitivane kategorije sjemena. Kategorija sjemena certificirano sjeme I.
generacije ima najmanji broj i najsitnija zrna, jer se ova kategorija sjemena
proizvodi u najvećoj gustoći.

Correlation analysis of more significant production traits of certain winter wheat PKB varieties

AB  - U istraživanju su korištene tri sorte ozime pšenice, Instituta PKB
Agroekonomik (PKB Talas, PKB Vizeljka i PKB Arena), ispitivane tijekom
dvije proizvodne godine 2014 i 2015. Proučavane su korelacije produktivih
osobina biljaka: broj izdanaka, broj klasića u klasu, broj zrna u klasu, masa
1000 zrna i masa zrna u klasu. Način postavke podataka za izračunavanje
korelacija utječe na dobivene vrijednosti korelacija i te se vrijednosti mogu
bitno razlikovati. Korelacije izračunate na bazi agregiranih podataka su veće
nego na bazi svih podataka. Korelacije nisu iste kod različitih sorti, što je i
logično, jer svaka sorta ima drugačiji genotip i specifične gene koji se nalaze u
različitim interakcijama. Uzimajući u obzir sve tri sorte, visoke i pozitivne
korelacije su nađene između: broja zrna u klasu i mase zrna u klasu (>0,79),
broja klasića u klasu i broja zrna u klasu (>0,80) i između broja klasića u klasu i
mase zrna u klasu (>0,74).

Control of genetic identity by protein electrophoresis in varietal reproduction of wheat

AB  - Održanje i kontrola genetske čistoće, odnosno genetskog identiteta, jedan je
od krajnjih ciljeva sjemenarstva nakon priznavanja neke sorte pšenice. Primjena
pozitivne i negativne selekcije, na razini fenotipa pri sortnoj reprodukciji
pšenice, omogućila je sortnu čistoću od 99 i 100% u usjevima svih sjemenskih
kategorija.
U cilju ispitivanja genetske identičnosti, u ovom su radu analizirane
rezervne bjelačevine pšenice – glijadini, koji su metodom poliakrilne gel
elektroforeze razdvojeni na veliki broj frakcija koje pokazuju visoku
heterogenost. Od analiziranih sorti pšenice jedino je sorta PKB Rodika imala
genetsku čistoću od 100% za sve kategorije sjemena. Sorta PKB Kristina je
imala genetsku čistoću od 99% za kategoriju predosnovno sjeme, a sorta BG
Merkur 99% genetske čistoće za kategoriju – sjeme prve generacije C1.
Elektroforeza bjelančevina pokazala je da postoji divergentnost između
ispitivanih sorti pšenice po sastavu komponenti glijadinske frakcije, dok unutar
sorti postoji ujednačenost.

ispitivanih sorti pšenice po sastavu komponenti glijadinske frakcije, dok unutar
